Review Casa Publica - Christchurch

Good time. No reservation, seated at the bar. Bartender was friendly and animated while making drinks. πŸ‘πŸ½ Got guacamole, which is made at the table it was pretty tasty. Drinks are made with love. Would come back to try other items on the menu. Tried the following- Guac πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½ Honey Fried Cauliflower - I would definitely order again 2 tacos - pork carnitas & coconut braised chicken. Chicken was hands down my favorite. Tortilla was a thin flour tortilla.

I spent American Thanksgiving eating tacos in New Zealand. Seems somehow fitting. Great pork tacos. My buddy's quesadilla looked amazing. I'd definitely try it again to sample the big plates. I forgot how many rums they have but it's a lot. I'm now officially infatuated with finding French rum when I get home.

Took my wife here for her birthday dinner, absolutely phenomenal food! The staff are extremely knowledgeable with the menu and different Rum selections, all the staff were friendly and professional but happy to have a laugh with you. Perfectly made PinΓ‘ Coladas, big wraps to the bar staff too! The staff here are a big asset to this restaurant. Can't highly recommend this place more and when back in NZ again I will definitely having dinner there again!. Thank you

The Casa Publica restaurant offers a wonderful dining experience that is sure to please foodies and casual diners alike. From the moment you walk in the door, you are greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that is perfect for a night out with friends, a romantic dinner for two, or even a family celebration. One of the standout features of the restaurant is its menu, which offers a wide variety of Mexican-inspired dishes that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. Whether you're in the mood for classic favorites like tacos and burritos or you're looking to try something new and adventurous like the grilled octopus or roasted pork belly, there's something for everyone on the menu. But it's not just the food that sets the Casa Publica restaurant apart - it's the attention to detail and the commitment to quality that really makes this place special. The ingredients are always fresh and locally sourced, and the chefs take pride in creating dishes that are not only delicious but also visually stunning. In terms of parking options, there is paid parking available on the road side, but it's limited to 1 hour up to 8.30pm. There is also Wilson Parking available in nearby areas, which can be a good option for longer stays. Another option is to park near the Margaret Mahy playground, which is a short walk from the restaurant. In addition to the food, the service at Casa Publica is top-notch. The staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, and they go out of their way to ensure that every guest feels welcome and taken care of. Overall, I would highly recommend the Casa Publica restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. From the delicious food to the warm atmosphere and attentive service, this restaurant is truly a gem that is not to be missed. Just be sure to plan your parking accordingly to avoid any issues.

We really enjoyed the food and drinks here. The wait staff wasn't so great. I think they checked on us once. But the food was good and well-seasoned.

Great experience. I had the chef choice with the wine pairing. Great Guacamole followed by fish tacos, pineapple salsa and shrimp ceviche. Mains was chicken skewer and desserts were churros and Argentinian chocolate cake. Good size portions too and great wine/Rhum.

Very noisy downstairs but we were seated upstairs which was nice. Extremely quick service and, if you're having tacos, would recommend 3 as 2 is more like a starter. Desserts were yum

Chicken and fish tacos were both superb. The wine list is impressive. Highly recommended πŸ‘Œ

Amazing! We had "Trust the chef" and it was brilliant from start to finish. A fabulous range of tastes. Waitress was very helpful, professional and friendly. One of the best dining experiences we have had for a while. Thanks to all staff. Cheers

The restaurant is located in a good location, good view, nice decoration and pretty chill and comfortable seating for the whole group or couple. There is a diverse menu of alcoholic drinks, delicious food, very friendly staff, fast and professional service. Especially they close later than the restaurants in the area.

I came here a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved my experience, the staff were all so friendly, we asked our waiter and the bartender to surprise us with a cocktail and they absolutely nailed it!
The guac and chips are so so good - the tortillas are literally amazing. The pulled pork soft tacos are also soooo yummy!!

The price can add up quickly, but honestly it is so worth it for the quality of the food & drink, the service that you get and the atmosphere. Love it.

This place is warm and has a great vibe, decided to stay for dinner. The guacamole is smashed in front of you, cool and fresh. We ordered the market fish which was ok, and the pollo a la parrilla. The chicken was unfortunately dry and over cooked. All in all a very average meal.

Definitely a great spot for any occasions. We went after work for wine and banter then ended with more food! Definitely a great atmosphere for downtime and food was fantastic (got the eye fillet). Would definitely go back there.

We started with their cocktail of the day. It was rum based with added mango rum and quite frankly if I could've sat there all night drinking this cocktail I would've been a very happy lady ( and very drunk 🀣). I wish that waitresses would ask "Have you eaten here before?" because on your first visit you have no idea how big the dishes are. We all ordered from the guacamole bar and while it was nice there was just too much. The polenta fries were tasty but they were just too big. I would rather we got three smaller ones than two bricks. The churros were light and fluffy but the sauce was too thick for easy dipping.

Fantastic place to come. It has a great long drinks menu and a good sized menu. The seated arrangements really ranged, we went in a booth and we were able to hide away and talk for a couple of hours.

It was nice having the waitress make the guacamole at our table (and it was soo good!). The cocktails were delicious and strong. We had a range of small plates all very different and tasted quite authentic.

I'd recommend this place for sure

Went for dinner, decor and staff were lovely food unfortunately was not. Ordered the pork belly taco however the pork fat was not rendered and difficult to stomach. Guac was made fresh however the syrup they put in it make it very sweet and not to my taste. Overall not my cup of tea but others may enjoy their food.

Was quite disappointed in the food. The guac made at your table is awesome but the chips that come with it are too greasy/fatty. The tacos we had were alright. The kumera croquette was bland, too dense and just not enjoyable, the chipotle mayo that comes with it is super tasty though. So they've hit the spot with some things but then with other nailed it, so a fair bit of improvement to be made. Staff are lovely though and a gorgeous decor.

One of the few decent places I could find open in Christchurch central on a Monday evening. The service was great and chat was on form. I was traveling for work and it had a good vibe for a Monday. I ordered the salmon and fish ceviche and while delicious they weren't exactly what I was expecting. They came on a small round fried tortilla which, I felt, took away from the fresh and light meal you typically get with ceviche. Overall I would definitely come again and it seems like a great place to share a meal with a date or friend.
