Review Bailies Bar And Restaurant - Christchurch

Really good pub. Chicken wings to die for. Real winga not nibbles. Spicy aioli was great. Very busy. Need more staff as service was a bit slow. Sort your flickering light bulbs out

Bailies bar is a good bar for an afterwork drink. It served meals during the day so its a great place if you are out and about. Car parking is normally directly out front but these spaces fill up quickly. I recommend Baileys as a good place to try out as I am sure you will feel well hosted. All patrons are welcomed and there is a good range of drinks available. Always a popular place plus they serve good bar snacks.

Great Irish style local pub. Good beverage selection & good pub food options. Fish n chip small meal was delicious - gurnard. Great to hear Southfield on Thu nights and have a jig.

My first time there for a meal and I enjoyed it. I had the pork ribeye on a bed of kumara mash with caramelized onions and gravy. My partner had the ribeye, chips , salad and gravy. We both enjoyed the meal , atmosphere and friendly staff would recommend you try if you are in Edgewater road area

8 of us having lunch and all had different meal and all were very impressed with the food. A little wait for the food but expected with having variety of meals. Gives time to have good catch up with your friends dining with you. Would definitely go again.

Our local when in town. Great pub food and portions to really fill you up.

Good bar, friendly staff... ...but the quiz night quizmaster is power tripping, so couldn't recommend it for the quiz. Tried to penalize my team for paying for food with my phone's paywave recently... we now go elsewhere. Have also heard of him awarding a tied win to another team when one team told him they'd added up their score wrong.

I can’t decide if the food or the service was better. Highly recommend if you love a good burger. $18 burger Thursday is awesome, I’ll definitely be back! I’d attach a photo of the food but it was to good I forgot to take one

Finally stopped in to Bailies bar after driving past it most days. Friendly bar and wait staff greeted us and there was heaps of tables available in the restaurant to choose from. The Decor would be up there with the best in Chch and theres interesting things wherever you happen to look. The steaks we got were cooked as asked and were really tasty, and serving sizes were generous, got extra fries but wouldn't reccomend it unless you are ravenous. Sunny outdoor area for a Sunday drink just adds to the appeal, I'd give it a 4 1/2 star if I could.

Phoned in advance to book a table. On arrival NO record of booking. Told to find a seat anywhere. Asked to have the loud music turned down “he” turned it UP. Absolutely No table service so walked out disgusted and disillusioned because have enjoyed previous visits with pleasant table service and good food.
The menu was NOT the menu on their current web site.
Will not go there again 😠

I've lived in the area for 2yrs have always drunk here, but never tried the food. Ive had the rib eye steak with blue cheese sauce, A+.
My brother had the salmon to me it was over cooked but my brother never specified his liking. Dined here again tonight ordered the salmon medium rare and it was smashing. The platters and the onsite made Pate is to die for. Honestly if your looking for a fab meal, great value and
awesome staff!! Get down here!!!!

The bar is popular with the high-viz crowd. It's a substandard suburban celtic boozer, lacking any of the dusty charm of it's inner city predecessor. They belt out 'classic hits' at volumes that make conversation difficult. How about an Irish band instead?

The bar food is a step down again.

The staff were unfriendly and rude, i wouldn't go back on principle. When i pay good money i want to be treated good.......I didnt even get to the food as i found the service uncomfortable and i could spend my money at a place they would smile.

Went for dinner on a Saturday evening ,had a booking for 7.30 we were seated got menus, got couple of drinks an then ordered straight away as we knew what we wanted, 55 minutes later we got our meals. my meal was supposed to be citrus crispy chicken strips, but I got chicken nuggets which were a bit tough an dry, also a side salad which accompanied the meal was sent back it tasted off an smelt the same, no apology or discount was offered. My partner had salmon which was not bad as salmon goes but the beans were long an stringy. Sorry but we will not be back to this restaurant.

So this is the newly relocated Bailies, which is conveniently up the road from me. I can't remember what the old, pre-quake, Bailies looked like - but this one is no doubt cleaner and newer.

This was a quiet Brunch-time visit, which differs from evening dining in that you're less likely to be accosted by cigarette smoke during the day. Bailies has it's smoking/outdoor tables situated right next to the doors which in their defence is almost unavoidable, but does defeat the purpose of separating smokers from non-smokers because EVERYONE has to walk through the wall of smoke to enter.

On this visit the place wasn't too busy, staff seemed to be in between busy periods as one was dining off to the side - we even got to benefit in her conversation with another staff member that consisted of a lot of "F'ing" related components.

I had a Bailies breakfast, which came out on a small rectangular plate - I know this makes food look pretty, but it didn't really provide the space needed to move food around as you tried to eat it. Maybe that's just my thing though.

On the plate was a hash, sausages, bacon, poached eggs, mushrooms and sour dough toast. Mushrooms - impeccable! Unfortunately, that's pretty much where it stopped. The hash was lukewarm and had a reheated taste to it. The eggs were overcooked and what little sour dough toast there was, was burnt.

Now considering the price which was $23 the food was not up to scratch. I would easily be happy paying prices like that for good quality food and an atmosphere that didn't consist of staff swearing loudly amongst each other, but in this case, I would put the value of this particular breakfast at the $17 mark compared to what I have experienced elsewhere around the country.

Unlikely to be returning, but I do wish the new Bailies all the best!
