Review Kenzo - Christchurch

The food is really yummy, not to mention pretty and reasonably priced! This place deserves more publicity. Japanese cuisine that actually lives up to it. We’ve been coming back over and over again. 😊

Fresh, tasty and exceptional service. My husband and I had a fabulous date night here last night. First off the customer service is 10/10 really friendly & engaging & helpful. The oysters were to DIE for we had 12 with some yummy champagne. The rest of the meal was so fresh and flavoursome .. we will be back again. Thank you so much 😊 Josh & Soph

Superb experience we had with Kenzo. Always loving their fresh seafood range. Their maki roll is always my favourite!

Love the place! the dining area was clean, beautifully decorated and with long mirrors reflecting street lights, it made for a lovely romantic atmosphere. My partner and I went in for a dinner date, the food was AMAZING. Perfect portion sides and the staff was polite and friendly. The only thing holding this back from getting 5 stars was that we unknowingly ordered still water opposed to tap and was charged $12 for the still water. If we had known, we would have gone with tap. Still very much recommend this place, I will be coming back!

Pleasant dining experience, fresh seafood & freshly cooked rice for the dishes that come with rice. I like it that the rice is not rubbery to chew (like sushi fast food joints’ 🥴). So well done to Kenzo. Although to note that Japanese curry (chicken) & chicken teriyaki are stir fried, not crispy (not katsu style). Great for those preferring the healthier option.

Really good experience! Our waiter was very attentive and professional. Food was tasty and well timed. Highlights were the agedashi tofu and sashimi platter. We had a great visit - highly recommend

Really good price and everything is presented beautifully. The food was good, especially the sashimi, it's hard to find good fresh sashimi so it exceeded my expectations. I'm glad it was as good as it looked! The soy braised ox tail was great flavour wise, however, very sweet. It was so sweet that I struggled to finish it. The spicy stir-fried pork was good, but I found that slightly too sweet as well. I think if the sweetness was dialled back, it would be perfect. It's more Korean Japanese as they have many Korean dishes on the menu, and the owners are Korean.

One of the best Japanese meals I’ve ever had. Can’t believe I’ve never been here before. A secret gem

Absolutely amazing food. Delicious, fresh and came out quickly. Sashimi was caught that morning! Staff were so lovely. Free parking outside and easy access. Great experience and will definitely go back

We used entertainment book which made it more affordable. The karaage chicken was spot on, with a really nice sauce, and the teriyaki chicken and beef was great, very saucy. I had to takeaway the leftovers for the next day as an entree and main was too much.

We think Kenzo was one of the first places in Christchurch to offer decent Tonkatsu Teishoku (Pork cutlet set) when they first opened.

After returning from a stint living overseas, we have gone back for the first time in nearly 8years. It was a brand new modern restaurant back then, and it still has the nice modern atmosphere.

We went there for lunch as we wanted to find a good dine in sushi place to have some more authentic sushi than the shopping mall variety, and we knew Kenzo’s sushi were all made fresh to order.

There seems to be plenty of sushi places around now catering to all budgets, but not too many with the right price/quality/dining space/atmosphere mix.

We think Kenzo has a lot going for it, and a nice estuary view from the restaurant to boot.

There are plenty of authentic sushi on offer as well as sashimi and a wide selection of Non-sushi dishes on the menu Katsu(Crumbed cutlets), Donburi(Rice bowls), Tempura, Udon noodles, Japanese curry etc.

We ended up having the lunch special Chicken Katsu set, Gyudon(Beef donburi), Edamame (soy beans), and a selection of sushi - Unagi(eel), Tamago(egg), Tobiko(fish roe).

We were pleasantly surprised to find lots of the other patrons having the sashimi. How times have changed!

A couple of (obviously) regulars came in while we were there and simply ordered the “usual”.

For people living in this part of town, it must be a best kept secret!

We will definitely be travelling across town again to satisfy our cravings for Japanese style lunch. It is the closest local substitute we have found so far to our weekly indulgence overseas.

Great Japanese Restaurant, although the location is out of the central city. Portions are not large but decent. Pricing is slightly above average but the food is great and staff are friendly. Definitely try the Green Tea Ice-cream.

It is a busy place. You definitely need to make reservation if you wanna go. Their Japanese meals have more European atmosphere, but overall they are good. I prefer traditional Japanese meal personally. Their service is very nice and friendly!

My wife and I just decided to try Kenzo Restaurant out on a whim, and my word we are glad we did, we had Wakame salad first which was delicious, after this we had some minced pork filled parcels and these were divine, plus the portion size was generous, next we had a selection of sushi and sashimi which was so fresh and beautifully presented, then we had a green salad of extremely finely chopped cabbage, ginger, carrot and orange, yummy! Our rice and mains then arrived, beef teriyaki and pork cutlets, the beef was perfection, well seared and slightly and slightly rare in the middle, the teriyaki sauce was te best we'd ever tasted, sublime, the pork cutlets were coated in light bread flakes and arrived with a spicy sauce and a plum sauce each of which tasted so decadent and umptious, I also had a pot of Jasmine tea which was very delicate and very slightly sweet.

In short the food was perfection, we just can't understand why the place isn't packed to the rafters with fellow diners, perhaps location? Certainly not the food or the staff as both could not be improved upon, great value too.

I will make it my mission to get Kenzo the clientele it deserves, and we will be back, often.

Just had my first experience at Kenzo in Ferrymead today. Awesome! So awesome in fact it compelled me to register a menumania account to write this brief review.

Extremely friendly service, very clean and modern interior and above all absolutely awesome sushi (I had the crispy chicken). This makes all the other sushi I've eaten before taste like garbage! Seriously mind blowing stuff. Cannot recommend this place enough.

5 stars.

Our favorite restaurant by a mile. It has really yummy food, and very fast service. The friendly staff there always do a great job. The restaurant has a nice fresh modern interior and the location is nice (by the port hills and waterfront)...best by far! Great affordable prices too! Highly recommended!!

I have lived in Japan and eaten at many Japanese places and this I'm afraid does not taste like Japanese to me. In fact, it looks like it's run by Koreans so why don't they just serve real Korean food instead of bad food they call Japanese. The Teriyaki chicken I think is from a jar from a supermarket and nothing like the real stuff. The gyoza is terrible and everything just overpriced for what it is. What a disappointment.

Fantastic. Wonderful staff who are attentive without being annoying. They have a great photo menu book just in-case you need some visuals. Splendid menu and the food is always amazing. Clean and presented beautifully. Great decor too.
