Review Five Star Vietnamese Restaurant - Christchurch

This was a great meal, well priced lovely staff, but mainly what impressed me were the families dining were all quiet and enjoying food and the atmosphere. Not noisy or big groups. Highly recommend for families, small groups. Lovely dining atmosphere.

Came with a friend for lunch. We had deep fried prawns and salt and pepper calamari for entree. Mains I had pork with lemon grass and garlic and my friend had chicken with chilli and ginger. Both entrees and mains were absolutely delicious and hot. Prices were relative to the portion size we got and we still had some to take home! Rice hot and fresh and was filled up if we ran out. Service was great. We will be back Five Star!!!

Very nice prawn and squid dishes. Not overcooked and very flavoursome. A large portion of the lemongrass king prawn dish and tofu medium dish is shown in the photos. Had to take home leftovers of the prawn dish... Can't finish despite it being absolutely delicious... BIG IS GOOD!

We went as a group of ten people and was also my first time to dine here. The food was served fresh, hot, quick and yummy. The only down side was that they charge extra for using payWave with no sign or communication to inform patrons, thus only give four stars for their service. Overall it was a good dining experience.

10/11/2017 - Dinner tonight with family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧. We had fried squids, fried spring rolls, BBQ pork fried rice, grilled pork with fried egg on broken rice, chicken rice noodle soup and fish stew. So yummy 😋. This is easily one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Christchurch.

My regular Vietnamese restaurant. Once they have changed chef or recipe I disappointed and haven't been there for a while but this time even better. Definitely recommended. Love the food there

Delicious meals, generous portions, caters well for Coeliac and Vegetarian, very affordable food and drinks and very quick service. Highly recommend. Plenty of parking onsite. Recommend booking a table as it can get busy its very popular.

Located in a small mall complex with ample car parks available. Spacious restaurant with many different sized tables, booking not required, the staff is responsive and friendly. Extensive menu of Pho, for example, they offer 5 different combination ways you can have a beef Pho. Easy ordering, fast table service, and tasty food.

5 Star Vietnamese, I love this place, but if we’re being truely honest, it’s a 4 Star Vietnamese. Tidy place, it’s clean and there’s interesting paintings to critique as you decide whether or not to go full Viet and get the banh xeo or the fried chicken… go fried chicken, the banh xeo looks like it’s fresh off the streets of Quy nhon, but it lacks the flavour and the essential fresh greens and herbs that make the dish ngon qua. The pickled side salad was good, the sweet chilli fish sauce sauce also good. I got the classic Com Tam Thit Nuong, the 5 star bbq pork on broken rice… it was pretty good, it didn’t blow my socks off but had authentic flavours and a lot on the plate. My partner went ultra classic with the beef pho, a huge portion with lots of meat. Again it was good, maybe a little too sweet, the noodle a little over cooked for me but my partner loved them. All in all, a great option in the Fendalton area.

We often go to Five Star for lunch. They have a variety of dishes. My favorites are 'Crispy Chicken', 'Beef Pho' and 'Lemongrass & Chili Chicken (or Pork)'. The restaurant is a little dark but has lots of tables and the price is reasonable.

We had the chicken, vegetables with cashews. 5 star service and taste. Well done. Thanks.

Hands down best Vietnamese in Chch. They have great vegan options, and if you have 4+ people offer an exclusive vegan set menu which includes non-regular menu items. Well priced for the portion, and the staff are always kind and welcoming. Highly recommend my usuals which are the lemongrass & chili tofu and the tofu salad. I recommend this place to literally anyone I meet. Only downside is they don't offer delivery and when I was sick I really wanted their food but wasn't able to drive and get it.

10/10 !! An amazing place with the most amazingly polite & considerate fun staff from junior up to owner management. A truly wonderful experience which must not be missed what ever the reasons may be. Our family of nine have all ready fully payed up - all thanks to their fairness & kindness beautifully displayed, which was always shown to us, thus, & kindly they gave to us all a very generous heavily discounted cash price, for 13 months in advance from this time for 11 family members negotiated Easter 2023 & Christmas /New Year 2023 & '24. This place has been there for a while and deserves the customer support it has. Always busy but with plenty of room and fast service. All the classic Vietnamese dishes done well, great portions. And the owner is a total honey! Five Star is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great food and service. Small tables or large parties. Great takeaway. Good parking. B.Y.O wine only. Could have a more Vietnamese decor but that is personal thing.

We ordered mains and two starters for three of us to all come at the same time. One starter came out then 5 minutes later the one main came out. Main was finished and I had to call the waiter to ask where the other food was he said the chef forgot to make it then 5 minutes later the other starter arrived then 10 minutes later I asked for the other main another 10 minutes nothing... eventually we had enough and we went to pay I told them that we did not get our food but we still had to pay!!! What the hell??? No going back there or takeaways!!! Awful service no compensation for no food coming out and the worst part is we love the food but will never go back not after that service. All in all we were there for an hour and one person got to have a full meal the other two sadly not! Still hungry.

Why are you guise called five star?Shouldn't you be 3.7 star.
Kinda baiting us out.

Food was pretty good though.
Waiting time was average
Staff fairly nice
yah

Had pho here with a couple of friends and enjoyed it. The pho broth was a little sweeter than usual but still had good taste. Would have appreciated some coriander and lemon to sprinkle on it! And some hoisin and soy would have been good, too. It was my friends' first time trying pho and they both really enjoyed it

This could be the best 'cheap and cheerful' restaurant in Christchurch. The portions are generous with a good amount of both vegetables and meat, and the fresh spring rolls are superb. Lee, the owner, oversaw our order and realized we had ordered too many rolls for our group of 13 and took the trouble to advise us. The time from placing our order to getting the first dishes was remarkably short.

Fresh Vietnamese style Asian food. I Love the Beef rice Noodle Soup. Great value and good size portions. The takeaway is usually fast too. Good authentic fresh Asian.

Walked in on a busy night. A couple of tables were empty with no reserved signage. Supervisor asks from a distance if we had a booking. We replied no. She was very rude and loud, with hand gesture "No booking- go!". I heard the food is good but they really need to work on their customer service skills. I still plan to try their food. This time booking is a must for me.

Went for a family meal. 2 adults and 4 kids 7 -18yrs. Great for kids quick service not too much waiting around. Food was great and plenty of it. Very reasonable for a night out with a large family.

I would recommend Five Star, great food and great service

I went to Five Stars for my sisters birthday and the food there was lovely. Some of the food I ate there I didn't even know what it was but it was delicious. I loved the stir fries and the dishes I ate that night. If there was something I found awkward it would be the round turning table at the top.

Good fresh food, very good value. Genuine service. Food could have done with a little more spice. But all round a nice space to eat

We get the pho beef noodle soup almost every week and they never disappoint. Love it! You should defiantly try it! The staff are always friendly and the food is always out fast. We will continue to visit this place weekly

I was told good things about this place but was greatly disappointed. We were a party of 12 celebrating a birthday, as my partner and I were running late we let the others order before us. Only just sitting down the waitress rudely stood directly behind us until we ordered while sighing and making impatient noises. The food came out in a flash but my order of BBQ pork noodles was pitiful. Along with some bland noodle mix I struggled to find any pork but soon realized it was in thin shavings scattered through my meal. Others at the table had the same problem, all vegetables with hardly any meat and one meal was sent back as it was stone cold. On finishing we waiting over an hour before they tried to give us dessert menus but by then we we're very much over the experience of this so called 'five star' restaurant. I would not recommend this to anyone.

I love Vietnamese food and this new restaurant surpassed expectations. It was their opening night.
The food was fresh and tasty. It was a little mild for me but as my friend likes it mild that is how it had to be. The staff were very friendly and helpful and brought me a mall dish of chopped chili to 'heat up' my portion.
The meals were well spaced and the surroundings were very pleasant.
Overall this was a most enjoyable experience and the restaurant is a welcome addition to Vietnamese restaurants in the city.
I will surely return!
