Review Lone Star Riccarton - Christchurch

Beautiful meals, amazing service. I downloaded the app while I was there and received a free dessert. It was yummy. Portion sizes are WOW! You will not be disappointed. Loved the vibes & we will definitely be back. Very fast aswell.

Moved from the old building in the Bush Inn centre, the new site down Riccarton Road is very flash and inviting. The staff were super friendly and the food came out fast.

We've tried Lone Star before and enjoyed it so we thought we'd try the new one in Riccarton only open for a week. Our expectations were definitely met. Great food and customer service and the atmosphere and layout were top class. Highly recommended.

Beautifully cooked tender steak, fluffy potatoes and the coleslaw wasn't too bad!

Meeting up with old friends over dinner last night at Lone Star Riccarton. Food, service (especially our waitress Riley) were both great, thanks. However the atmosphere (ambience) was not so good as there was a very large & LOUD group celebrating a 21st birthday all around us! One of us needed to be a separately accommodated dining party as (along with the loud music) we struggled to hear our friends trying to converse with us across our simple wee table 🤔

Stopped in for an early birthday lunch. Restaurant was rather quiet but that was no issue. Food was delivered within about twenty or so minutes so not a long wait time. Ordered one of their burgers and it was very good. My family had the sirloin steak and fish and chips, both said it was delicious. Not too overly priced but when ordering the burger, it is an extra $6 to add chips which in most places they're included in the meal with no extra charge. Staff were really friendly and accommodating.

Lovely place to dine. Not too busy for a Monday evening. I hadn't made a reservation so we had to wait 10 minutes for a table but that was ok as they have a bar area that is pleasant to be in even with two children under 5. The service was absolutely lovely. My food was very well cooked I had the lamb and it was just falling apart it was so DeVine. I downloaded the app which gave me a free desert, what a awesome idea just for downloading the app. I will add photos of my meal tonight as it was so good 😊

We had booked our table for 6.15pm. It was extremely busy. Our waitress took our orders and we did have a bit of a wait but to be fair it was worth it. Our meals came out and they were great. We had a Johnny Cash Stash and a Honky Tonk Chicken. The meals were huge and we couldn't finish them.

Visited here with family for a really special occasion. All of our meals were cooked really nicely and beautifully presented. I had the Lasso of hog and the pork was so nice and tender. I always have to give hubby some of my meal because the meals are so huge there. Hubby had spare ribs and he was too busy getting stuck into those to talk. We picked a private booth area to be seated and we enjoyed the food, atmosphere and hospitality. Complements to the chefs and team for our fantastic meals! The only thing that I would change for next time is to ask for less salt on the crackle - so just a really minor thing. Thank you Lone Star Bush Inn, Christchurch. We'll be back! PS The photo was taken after I'd got stuck into my meal and then realised that I'd forgotten to take one - so my meal came out way nicer than what you can see.

Catch up with friends made perfect with awesome food and service from Lone Star Christchurch! We went in afternoon and got table easily but in night u have to book before otherwise u can't get table. We had only drinks there. Bar was pretty big and good. No push to leave, as such a huge restaurant therefore wonderful to be able to drink, relax and catch up with our friends. Will definitely be back again

It’s my first time having steak in New Zealand and it was worth it. The lamb was cooked nicely. The steak we ordered was made well done but I think it is best for you to order it as medium well. Lone star is Halal certified which is a huge relief for me. Got the red velvet cake for dessert and it was amazing.

Lovely welcoming place to eat in Riccarton. Staff were exceptional particularly Taylor, who went the extra mile for us. Ribs were so tasty.

We went to new Riccarton venue unaware they had moved from the old Bush Inn area 10/09/2023 . Decieving small main street entry but is a large vibrant new venue more than meets the eye. A little late for our booking ( party of 10 ) because of the thinking it was the old address we were promptly seated and drinks orderd. Barman came and asked about a cocktail as to how we would prefer it , excellent service. Food was quick and all enjoyed their choice with many plates emptied .' Only 1 small observation for 100 % is toilet floors could do with regular clean during busy times as many were a little messy on the floor . All in all very enjoyable venue and great care from the staff and kitchen .

My first experience at Lone Star and I was not disappointed. The food was crazy delicious, the service friendly, helpful and not at all pushy. They were super busy and the wait was no wait at all. 100% will be back again

This Lone Star seems to be in like with the rest of them. I had a wrap here with chicken and bacon in it. It was delicious. The chips are also very good and would highly recommend. I did not go here for dinner yet, but I would imagine it would be similar to the rest of the Lone Star chains, although you might check to see if they have an online menu just in case. Overall this is a great place to grab some lunch.

The starter speciallly the pork ribs my partner ordered were very dry and it seems that sauce were just warm up in the microwave our mains the lasso of hog were very very dry. It did not take long for us to wait for our food to arrive. Very disappointing.

One of our family favourites.
We always enjoy the service and the food, and you get a big feed for the money.

We have to admit, we always struggle to not choose the ribs. Portions are huge and 6 is more than enough for most adults, 9 if you want a challenge, and 12 if you want leftovers to take home!

The restaurant is always popular so with kids in tow, it pays to get there early. We always aim for just after 5:30pm and will be seated and ordering food before 6pm.

If you make use of their rewards programme it’s easy to save $15-20 per visit. Our last meal for 3 adults and 1 child came to just over $100 with a $15 discount. 3 mains, 1 kids meal, 3 drinks.

If you stick to their popular dishes you’ll definitely won’t be leaving hungry!

Visited Lonestar recently for the first time as it was popular in CHCH. Prices were slightly on the high end for basic food such as a chicken and fish dish. Would not recommend going, and will not return as food was bland. This place is over-rated but service is friendly and helpful.

Not a great experience: as per photo, you can see or entree was saturated in oil in the bottom of the place, and half of it was burnt. Table was wobbly, 1 napkin and not enough cutlery for both mains and entrees, we had to ask for more of each. 40 min wait on entree, and this is in a dining room that wasn't even half full. One of the mains arrived luke warm and the other arrived hot. Pricy experience considering the bad service!

Been here about a few times now to say that this place is more than sufficient to fulfill your gastronomical needs.

A tad bit expensive, but they don't fail to provide you with quality meals and proper service except on unusually busy days. The restaurant has a Texan decor as the name suggests and provides more of the western style American old school cuisine for us to cherish.

Some of their best dishes that I have tried so far and would definitely recommend to you all are:
1. Shanks Peninsula
2. Dixie Chicken
3. Running Bear Salmon
4. Johnny Cash Stash

These four dishes remain my favorite so far although I haven't tried them all as of yet. As a university student lone star is a place I can usually go once in a while but whenever I do they never fail to satisfy my hunger!
When I came to CHC from AKL, I always look forward to a restaurant that has the tasty steak.
Well, after tasting, it's just not very attractive.
And the price for two people is at least $100 to reduce the hunger. A little bit too expensive.

Love the staff here! The chick with all the tattoos is so nice !! She was super assertive and friendly. I went to a birthday party here in the West Wing and they were super nice to me cause I was sober driving. Dixie chicken is my favourite meal here !!

The Lone Star features everything "American Western" from the photos of Willy, Cash and Waylen on the walls to Elvis and Cash bopping through the speakers on the wall. By refurbishing the Bush Inn Hotel, the Lone Star acquired a ton of spaces that makes this the perfect spot for your next group event. The food is quality, but may take some time to be delivered to your table, depending on the time of day and the size of the crowd. The service at the restaurant is nothing to be desired. Spend some time checking out the artwork if you're not in a hurry, this is a definitely a step back into the true Wild West and the beginning of classic country as we know it.

I went here with my daughter as I was visiting Christchurch for work. It was a Tuesday evening and the place was very busy.
The food and service were reasonable but the noise did spoil things a little. Don't come here if you are not ravenous ! Garlic bread was the size of a small bungalow . Steak cooked nicely, perhaps too much potato with it, unlike me to be unable to finish the lot ... cost-wise , it was a bit over-priced.
Overall, not bad, but we were keen to get away and escape the noise.

We had to wait for 45 minutes for out food to arrive after ordering.

We had four kids with us so we order 4 kids meals which come with free drinks and ice-cream. BUT we were charged for the drinks at full price anyway because we didn't tell the waitress when we ordered the drinks specifically that we wanted the free (smaller) drinks.

The meals were eatable except for the chicken salad which had a chemical aftertaste and was covered with slimy mayo.

After the main meal we waited for 20 minutes for a waitress. When she didn't turn up I had to go and find her and order the desserts. The table was not cleared until we had nearly finished the desserts.

When I complained about our experience the cashier just ignored my complain with no apology or explanation offered at all.

All up a disappointing experience!

We got a voucher to go here for my boyfriend's birthday so we took 2 members of the family with us to use it. Our booking was for 6pm and we got in on time no problem and was seated straight away. Then we got a different waitress to take our orders. We asked twice what the specials were but it seemed too hard work to tell us. My boyfriend and brother in law ordered the kiwi joker which has 2 options of what steak you can have but she didn't ask them what they would like. My boyfriend asked for his steak to be medium-well done and it came out well done and it looked like rump steak not ribeye or sirloin like it said on the menu but it was edible. My boyfriend is quite a slow eater but when I had and other people on the table had finished their meal they took our plates straight away which left my boyfriend feeling uncomfortable because he was the only one left to eat so because of this he didn't finish all his meal. We were then sat for at least 15 to 20 minutes waiting for the desert menu or the bill (mainly the bill) which we did not get so we went to the till to get it ourselves. When we went to pay for the bill the lady at the till was talking to other staff and was not interested in us. We asked for the bill to be altered because of the free meal voucher but this seemed too
much effort and we had to work it out on our phones ourselves. Being it was a special occasion for a birthday we felt like we were treated as normal customers but whereas in Nelson they make you feel special and put extra effort in. Overall we came away disappointed.

I like Lone Star when I am travelling as it is a good restaurant to go to if you are on your own. There is always plenty of action and you don't feel out of place sitting on your own in a booth.

The beer is always cold, the service good and the food consistent. For me it is always the Johnny Cash Stash.

A great standby when you want to know what you are going to get.

What is wrong with this restaurant :

- We had a booking at 1pm, weren’t seated till half past (apparently it takes half an hour to turn a table for 8 into a table for 10 when its not even busy)
- I paid for my food at 2.54pm . . . .the food took 45 mins to arrive (the table next to us were considering ordering pizza just to prove a point)
- you apparently can’t order drinks through your waitress – you have to order at the bar
- your waitress does not check up on you and if you ask her for something like more water she will kind of glare at you like you asked her for something horrible
- you do not get offered dessert – if you do want it you have to walk around and find a menu yourself. In our case once we had decided which dessert we wanted it turned out you could only order certain ones from the menu
- our steaks were meant to be medium rare – they were truely the worst things Ive ever tasted. I wouldn’t bother calling them steaks.
-when I asked the lady at the counter how to make a formal complaint she handed me a piece of paper and said she would pass whatever I wrote to the chef – not an appology came out of her. When I called up an hour later and asked who I can speak to about making a customer complaint I was first put on hold for 5 mins and then told I can either speak to ‘the chef or to the bar’

I have never complained about a restaurant in my life but since this was my leaving dinner I was very disappointed. The last memory I have of my friends before I move away is a horrible experience at Lone Star. Thanks a lot (didn't even get a discount). Never ever again

UPDATE:
Sent a complaint letter to the man in charge and he SEEMED quite concerned. He then said that he would sent gift vouchers to my Auckland address if I removed this review off MenuMania. In short: vouchers never arrived even though this review was taken offline immediately and my welcome dinner to Auckland (seating 25 ppl) was not held at LoneStar. Not only is this branch a waste of money - they're also a bunch of liars. Buy Maccas - trust me (PS: if you're reading this unconcerned owner - I work 60 hours a week. My time is valuable and you and your company are an embarrassment because I sent you around 6 emails. You got constructive feedback and I just feel like a fool.)

Wouldn't recommend Lonestar to anyone. I ordered the Dixie chicken one night and was incredibly disappointed. It was bland and for 30 odd dollars I expected a bit more flavour. The next time I came back I ordered the fish and also found this to be very bland. The service wasn't exceptionally good either with the waitress seeming bored with her job and forgetting to give us desert menus and also forgetting to ask if we would like more drinks. Would much rather spend my money elsewhere, don't think I will be coming back.

Absolutely love this restaurant! The atmosphere is great, the Johnny Cash Stash and the Dixie Chicken was both delicious and filling! The salad and chips on the side was great and a reasonable price too!

Went here recently for a work do and was rather disapointed and felt it wasnt up to the usual lone star standard. Maybe it was due to the hectic xmas season.

To many people were crammed on a table. The entrees were disapointing, i shared the garlic prawns that were overly covered in garlic and a lot of it was raw. Tasted the calamari that was to heavily seasoned.

As a main i had the cajun chicken, the chicken was great but the potatoes were raw inside.

Seated beside the kitchen, and heard a ridiculous amount of smashed plates.

I will be back. Next time ill get the ribs, you cant go wrong with them.

Would eat here again, the Dixie chips are brilliant, whoever thought of this... kudos to you! The Lone Star loaf is yummy too, crispy crusted bread and soft inside. Hubby had the ribs and enjoyed them. The coleslaw was a bit weird but I ate it all the same. Overall, a brilliant night, only a 15 minute wait for a table too.

I didn't have a problem with the 1 1/2 hour wait, its always nice to unwind and have a lazy drink at the bar. However, the problems started after we had placed our orders and the waitress came back two minutes later and asked us: " have you ordered yet ?" It went downhill from there. Entree's were brought out after mains and some of our meals were cold owing to the waitress spending time flirting in our tables line of sight with chef whilst holding said dishes. The food was ok, but even that was ruined by the waitress returning to the table at intervals as small as every two minutes to ask if we had finished yet. The finial straw was the aforementioned waitress commenting to one of our party: "jeeze you don't have to be fat and eat everything". Manager (whom had observed this) ducked us on way out. Comically bad staff and decidedly average but pricey food. I will not be going back and would advise all to stay away.

good service nice food, but too crowded, tables too close together, I found that really uncomfortable

Went here while in Chch on business - must have picked a bad night because I had a hour long wait for a table. Waitresses were helpful and food was of normal lone star standard. Always a asfe bet - but watch your eyes .. make sure they match your stomach - full meals are large. Would go back .. but would book.
