Best kids friendly restaurant we've been to in christchurch. I couldn't speak high enough of the to show our appreciation. Baby eating messy = norm, but not in any restaurant you would expect such warm and sweet gesture! We were cleaning the high chair and floor as we finish our meal, the owner came to tell us to leave it to her and played with our Bub even given him a banana!! Bub immediately became a fan of hers. Their rice vermicelli is awesome too, super size and so affordable. We will definitely be going back again and again! Highly recommend!

Lovely food that is good in portion size, decent in presentation and packed with flavor! Owner is super friendly, especially towards kids. Highly recommended: combination spring roll salad, combination meat with rice on hot plate, kimchi fried rice, any pho dishes. For those who like spicy food, ask for the tray of 4x chillies to take you meal experience to another level.

Love this place, staff so obliging and friendly. Food to die for. They use the freshest ingredients. Can't go past the Beef salad, I am in Heaven every time I eat it. Fresh herbs even lemon... best crispy Pork dish the flavour is so real. You will not be disappointed .

I think the chicken curry is the best thing I have ever eaten.

Amazing food, wonderful service, authentic viatnameese food. I would recommend it for family get together or a bday celebration. Love the atmosphere and ambiance.

Food is alright. Serves large groups pays to make an appointment.

Excellent food with acceptable prices. Try the pho and the rice noodle salad. One star less for the ambiance.

Even though some recent name changes, the quality of the delicious food available here continues to impress. We'll be back for more for sure!

I ordered the satay chicken as I like to stay with a dish easily compared with other restaurants. My dish was nice! My fellow diners weren't as impressed. One friend ordered the tofu with vegetables and she was disappointed that there were hardly any veges on her plate. My other friend ended up with a burnt omelette. I have to say burnt food annoys me. It should be visually quite obvious but instead of saying "sorry there was a problem we need to cook your dish again" they serve it up with a burnt bottom. She then ordered the banana fritter but they served the mars bar instead - oops! We would've liked to order another drink but waitress AWOL.

I have been coming to myhanh for over 5 years now and it never lets me down. Just been overseas and tried vietnamese in USA and Canada and Sydney and still this is the best. I believe the best in Christchurch and NZ in general. Only 1 or 2 in Vietnam beat it and I know my food - am a complete and utter foodie and run and health& healing retreat. Vietnamese is clean gorgeous healthy delicious food and chilli beef salad the best and he is coming out with a lamb one -yum u have to try

I was extremely disappointed with this place. I only came here because the zomato rating was 3.9 here.

I love Vietnamese food and this place completely ruined it for me.

Where do I even start? Let's start with the good.....the only good thing was the Vietnamese spring rolls.

We came here during lunch on a Saturday and it was pretty much empty. That should have given us an indication of how bad this place was but I believed in the zomato rating lol.

Unlike all other authentic Vietnamese restaurants they didn't have a condiments tray with your usual siracha, red vinegar and other sauces. The vermicelli salad had really tough and tasteless pork skewers and no sauce/dressing.
The pho and noodle soup had a funky spice that made the soup taste off.
The pork bun xeo/Vietnamese pancake was only filled with bean sprouts and had hardly any meat in it.
The worst was the Hainan chicken rice. I have never seen it made like this....ever. It was a chicken salad with yellow rice and the chicken salad was so spicy it was unpalatable.

I would definitely not recommend this restaurant. It was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I have ever had. I had to apologise profusely for recommending this place from the zomato ratings lol and I still feel bad 😞

Stopped by for dinner and was greeted warmly into the place. There was quite a few items on the menu so it took us a while to pick some stuff. The waitress was understanding and gave us time to look some more but brought drinks in the meantime.

We went with the pork and prawn pancake, satay chicken and caramelised pork belly with tofu. The pancake was crispy and delicious. i wasn't a fan of the satay because it didn't have the right taste but the pork belly was also quite good. The portions here are decent so quite good for the price (around $20).

Nice restaurant but we did have to traverse a bit from the University to get here.

Very friendly owner, made excellent recommendations. Food quality superb, prices a bargain. Cheap and cheerful, you can't go wrong :) my first time here, def be back!

One of my favourite go-tos! The owners are always very friendly and can explain the menu very well (although I'm Vietnamese, sometimes I just need a little reminders). My favourite would be bánh cuốn and bún nem nướng (steamed rice paper with pork mince and combination vermicelli salad). The portions are huge, as pointed out by other reviewers.

My husband and I love this little restaurant. However we have a TIP! Only order the Vietnamese dishes. We like number 99, the combination Salad with meat and spring roles. It's more than a meal and for only $10 a total bargain.

Pleasantly surprised as the interior was a little asian rustic to say the least , staff where friendly and food was good. Not fabulous , but tasty, fresh and good value. Hubby was happy as they have Tiger beer, his favourite and food did not take long to arrive. We had three mains shared between 3 of us and almost didn't need the rice. Vegetable dish was lovely and I would go back to have it again.

This is a great restaurant. Don't come if you want silver service and latest decor, but if you want stunning vietnamese food at a really good price, then come and I guarantee you will come back again. Service is fast and portions are generous. One of our favorite restaurants in Christchurch.

One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Cheap, and so delicious. I ordered the beef noodle soup and crispy pancake, it was so good no takeaway boxes were needed. I definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone

Super tasty and cheap. I got the summer rolls and the chilli/lemongrass chicken, both were excellent.

This was the worst place I've ever dined in!!! We had the deal voucher but the owner tried to tell us she had a limit on how many people could use it in one day and would try flat out refuse to honour it, when that isn't stated anywhere when you buy it!HMM FALSE ADVERTISING It was so tiny and cramped and because its so cramped everyone tries to talk over each other and its really LOUD!! We got wedged in the corner, my friend and I couldn't hear each other speaking, when we asked to be moved to the quiter area where there was a spare table the waiter just flat out said no! We received really average entrees. Then our mains were DISGUSTING!! They look nothing like the pictures, they were sitting there in a pool of oil and just looked fowl. We tried to eat them, my dish was meant to be lemongrass and chilli beef, but it was more like strips of beef sitting in fat covered in a bottle of soy sauce. I literally could not eat one bite of it!! When we asked to speak to someone the woman owner came out and started yelling at us!! saying we had to pay for the meal because noone else had complained that night. She was so rude and abrupt would not try resolve it, she said it would be an insult to her chef if she got us another meal or gave us any type of refund. We asked to have half of the voucher refunded as there was no way we could continue to eat there as we felt sickened. She then had a rant at us about how she doesn't receive any cash from groupon etc etc and how she wasn't responsible at all. In the end we were forced to hand over the voucher as the lady had the nerve to call the police to force us to pay for food we couldn't even eat. We were still entitled to our 2 desserts or one of our drinks for which of course we didn't recieve., , and I'm sure that breaks our rights as a consumer..!!!

This place is a hole! The food is gross its like oil and salt on noodles or rice, it was also on a super cold plate so went cold really quick we only ate our entrees even though we had a voucher for 2 entrees 2 mains 2 drinks and 2 desserts, we just flagged the rest as it was THAT BAD! The lady was a right cow to deal with, when we told her the food was disgusting she just argued that her chef had been doing it for 12yrs and that she was not going to pass it on as it would offend him! Definitely do not recommend, the place was cramped as hell too, we were squished in a corner and most people were shoulder to shoulder, its an absolute dive I would rather eat dog shit to be honest

Disappointing. Poor service. Had to ask three times to get some napkins. I got the feeling the waitress didn't want to be there. Two of our meals came out in a timely manner but it took a another 30 minutes for the other two meals to arrive. Needless to say my partner and her mum had finished their meals before we had even received ours. When we finally got the remaining two meals they were different from what we had actually ordered. We ordered chargrilled pork vermecialli and received fried sausages with our vermecialli. The most frustrating thing about the whole experience is that the staff insisted the fried sausage was to accompany the dish instead of the chargrilled pork as described on the menu. Either way we waited a long time for a very disappointing meal.

I will never go to this restaurant again!Had an extremely dissapointing time at this restaurant! The dishes sounded so tantalising we ordered a lot, however taste was somewhat different than anticipation. Having tired of overtalking the youthful sexual talk of the neighbouring table of university students & the empty tables surrounding we asked for a doggy bag to take home as a far preferred place to eat, we were told it would cost us $1 per dish to take our dishes away (in plastic that is, which we would then have to dump in landfill somewhere) As the environment only allowed us to eat a small portion of what we'd ordered in such an environment & were unfortnately having to go home with our food I felt the fact they were charging us to do so both disgusting and dissapointing. We chose to leave our dishes behind! (leaving behind far more than $1/dish of food) They also tried to charge 5% surcharge for using a credit card, I therefore had to pay eftpos. These guys are obviously suffering immense arrogance and greed from post earthquake popularity! I will never eat there again and suggest you never compromise the opportunity of eating in a superb ChCh Vietnamese restaurant such as Saigon Star or Five Star. I have left with immense dissapointment & sadness that this kind of service and management feels that it can allow itself in a place such as Christchurch especially after all we have been through together. Negative Stars are given to this restaurant.
