Im visited on last day of my nz trip, they dont have paywave service, im only using wise virtual in the whole trip, left 25 nzd cash but boss accepted it even I ate 27 nzd. Good service. Alot vege and big portions for triple meats rice and 口水雞。Taste not bad too especially the duck sauce similar to my home country taste.

Affordable and definitely delicious Chinese meals in Christchurch. Highly recommended! They're open until 2 AM on most nights.

Jiang is friendly every time Im in town on Business. The food here is very tasty especially the flat noodle beef dish. I think dining in is the best way to try the dish as take out makes the food less fresh. Will be visiting again soon.

Nice food . Don't expect to much with the decor. Reasonable priced good size serving on the main meals. I have some yum chow going as well. I would go back.

Very pleasant authentic Chinese restaurant that I would like to come back to in the future, food was lovely and flavourful and atmosphere was nice :)

As I finish late at my work, this is by far the best, affordable, and great tasting as well as awesome service for a late feed that goes until 2am most nights. A great selection of dimsums, great meat and seafood dishes, lovely Asian seasonal Vege with Garlic sauce. Always Ask them what they have available in season. Our best is kalian (chinese broccoli) or Ong Chai also known as morning glory, Water Spinach or Kang Kong. For sweet and sour pork lovers this place is one of the best! They are now fully licensed which is awesome. Highly recommend for late feed!

Actually I didn’t come with high expectation. However, the food here has really amazed me!! Very authentic taste of the pork ribs, prawn dumplings, and cheung fun. It’s really up to the locally authentic standard! Highly recommended from a local Cantonese.

"Seriously, this Yumcha place is amazing. They've got a huge selection, and everything's pretty tasty. The flavors are spot on - not too much, not too little. Love their steamed buns and the dumplings? Crispy and delicious. The only thing is, some of the waiters can have communication issues. Most are really on the ball, but you get the odd one who doesn't seem to care much. But hey, the food's so good, I keep going back. If you're into Yumcha, you've gotta try it."

Food was good. Staff were accommodating and lovely. Love their Squid Calamares 😊

The food is simply amazinggg, I have been ordering from here for so long and they never disappoint. The portions are big, the price is low and the food is the best Chinese food I have ever had!!

I would say this is the best roasted duck I have every had in my 2am after-drink meal, I love how they open so late at night, and still serve you with a smile.

To be honest, if I could give this restaurant a -2 review, I would, they hardly deserve a 1.0. This restaurant has the most appalling service and the employees seem to be the most condescending and least understanding employees that I have ever come across. The food did not meet the standards I expected, even though they were already low from previous experience, and frankly I was extremely disappointed and will say I will never, ever eat there again. I ordered the squid, and the parts I got were the most disgusting parts of the squid, they were far too chewy and compared to any other restaurant, it was trash. I also ordered the nasi goreng which was honestly the worst nasi goreng I have ever ordered in my life. It was filled with spice which was unlike any nasi goreng that I had previously ordered. I am not good with spice so I didn’t appreciate this at all. I tried to complain and ask the staff if it’s possible to swap with another meal considering it was not normal with the order I made. However, they were extremely rude and told me I should’ve asked if it was spicy before I ordered it. I found this ridiculous and extremely unprofessional.

One of my go to Chinese restaurants in Christchurch. Don't come here for the service or the decor but just come for the food and the value. You won't get "amazing" dishes because you are paying an average of $15 per head which is dirt cheap. Go for the duck, roast pork and crispy pork. And to those complaining about the pork ribs, don't get confused with Asian spareribs and Western spareribs. It is served intentionally as it is.

Also, byo wine and beer stops at 9 pm because of rowdy crowds. We were annoyed too when we went there with our byo and was told we couldn't drink it but it wasn't a big deal for us.

Would still recommend this place for value Chinese food.

I don't normally write reviews but my friend recommended this place to me since I work the night shift. I am so glad this place is open beyond midnight and I'm even more surprised that the food was so good I can put it up there amongst the best chinese I have ever had.

The best fried rice in town. It's a shame they don't do delivery though, I would eat there more often if they did. Price is reasonably cheap 12 dollars fills me up and more.

The layout of the interior is a bit outdated the service was average but I don't go there almost every week for that. Hands down the best chinese food in town. My friends and I usually spend anywhere from 15-20 dollars each and I sometimes come in by myself and get a fried rice which is 12 dollars and it's more than enough to get me full. If you care about service then this is not that place for you however if you are looking for quality chinese food this is the place. It's a hidden gem of Christchurch.

This place definitely has the qualities of a hole in a wall (except the toilets are quite good as I have seen). A go-to place for yummy comfort food. Good portions, not too much but not too less. The fried prawns with chilli salt was delicious! The crispy pork was okay, the soup (sour soup of some sort) was yummy and had a lot of meat, veggies, and shrimp in it! I have been here a few times, and never miss a visit every time I come to Christchurch!

This place is interesting. Its popularity stems from being the only place open. It is often open past its posted closing times and it is not uncommon to see it packed at 3am on a Friday night. Their dishes are hit and miss. Their service is not something I wish upon any person. Try the sweet and sour pork. Dont try the spare ribs. NEVER order takeaway and start eating it there, they will get angry.

This place was absolutely terrible. Had never been there before but was told that they made nice Chinese quite late at night. The only thing they had going for them was their opening hours (as others have commented and where their extra 0.5 rating comes from). The only positive reviews on here seem extremely fake. On arrival the chefs were all outside smoking. We were greeted extremely rudely by the staff. Food was all goddamn awful, very flavourless, full of filler ingredients (not much meat) - that was the combination fried noodles. The "pork buns" were absolutely disgusting too. Total waste of $30 worth of food as 99% of it went in the bin.

Unsure how to review this place. The only redeeming quality of this restaurant are the opening hours. The food especially the mains are rather dreadful, and the service is certainly authentic Chinese, as it is utterly horrible. The opening hours are its saving grace, as consuming the food when not drunk and hungry at 1AM is not possible.

Well to be honest, I'm glad this place exists. It definitely is a life saver for us students, cheap food, decent quality (depends on what you order), opens late. Nothing to complain about.

Reviews are unfair, one of the best little chinese restaurants out of China I have eaten at in Christchurch. I grew up in Hong Kong and know good chinese food when I get it. If you want fancy tables, high class service and posh nosh go somewhere else, this is authentic chinese food with no nonsense service, love it. Staff have always been helpful, food has been what we expected and always served quickly.

Reviews are unfair. I've been there twice and it was good enough. If you want 5 star treatment go to a more expensive restaurant.
I was there with my family and in the lazy susan room. They have a high chair for infants. There is also another room with a large screen TV for sports nights.

This is the worst place I have ever eaten. I wouldn't even subject my dog to food from here, dirty lil Chinese restaurant, chefs all outside the front door smoking, the place is advertised as b.y.o for beer and wine yet when we turn up the staff tell us no beer after 10pm. She then continued to be rude enough to tell is to go somewhere else if we weren't happy. We ha already ordered so this wasn't an option, food came out really oily and semi burnt, food was like rubber, over cooked. I will never be back, I hadn't read the previous reviews but wish I had, it was exactly as others had put it. Bad food, bad service. Really bad, try it at your own risk.

Went here at 2am to get fried chicken, chicken feet and late night munchies.
Service was unfriendly but efficient as usual.
Finish our food at 3am just as the fire alarm went off and the owner told people to "just pay and go" even those who hadn't finish which was kind of rude.

Definitely a place you would go to if you were high on drugs like a thug.

This was probably the worst experience I've had dinning out before, and I go out fortnightly for dinner. The service was horrible they didn't speak English well and mixed up our orders (we were the only table in the restaurant) asked for a drink, they never brought it over. we had to all go up and order at the counter when there was 5 of us and pay then sit down and have our meals. I order honey BBQ pork. it came out as dried sliced pork, no sauce, veges or rice. so I asked for rice still didn't make the meal better. I'm sorry to say I would never go back there's so many restaurants in it's area so they should want to improve to get close to their competition that's just down the road.

They need some hospitality training or at least the staff who can understand a quarter of English. Took 20 mins to take order and didn't even ask for water or tea. Only 4 table of customers in restaurant to serve. Then ordered meal which mentioned chicken but they put seafood in it how can u eat seafood when you order chicken meal then the lady said it has seafood in it so next time ask without seafood oh my god they have not written anywhere that it has seafood in it. Then instead of making it right she told us they are out of chicken so can't do. But customer next to us ordered chicken dish and they took order and then she told us that she told lies to us only problem is the order gna take time ahhhhhhhhh she asked us to cancel the order finally we canceled the order and she didn't even apologied. Really bad experience. They running it like they are in China. Do not know how they got the licence. At least hire the staff who can speak and understand a bit of English.

Went there were unable to cope with the small sized restaurants demand. It was blatantly obvious that the staff were stressed and took forever to take out order. The food also took a while to get out. The food was good though just a bit too oily for my liking with some dishes.

I once enjoyed the idea of this place: that it was open late and provided cheap food for the student masses. After more than one visit I cannot but conclude that the food sucks. Flavour is lacking and thinned down, the dishes are clumsily overburdened with filler and the worst of ingredients all too evidently sacrificing quality for price in this reviewers opinion. The hedgehogs which share the property I live on have benefited from dishes barely touched but thrown out late at night. At least they appear to have eaten what they were give from Dragon Garden whereas I fail to comprehend how this is possible.
Simon
Dragon Garden has been around for a while, and it is the best chinese food in its price bracket (mains ~14$) in the city! Decent selection of food, and a great yum cha menu late nights. Their Sze chuan beef is awesome :)
