Popular Chinese takeaway in New Brighton, always ask for Bami Goring even though I look through menu I return to my favourite, also love Vegetarian Chow Mein, another must buy for me. Prices are good, menu has plenty of variety to choose from, well worth a visit

Great food and great price, I have always loved the food here, and from memory it's the same people that were here 20 plus years ago.

Always a friendly smile from the woman who runs the counter.

I've visited this establishment a few times this year and I have never had an issue with my meals. So far I've tried the chicken chow mein, chicken fried rice and satay chicken along with some noodles. All were very delicious served within a reasonable time.

Only issue I had is they aren't open on Mondays :)

Absolute shit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!do not go here we ordered chicken fried rice had about 12 small flecks of chicken in it really soggy rice and sweet and sour pork which was just sauce and deep fried bits of batter with the odd but of pork in it not enough sauce to cover either was really dry and also had wontons which were disgusting tiny amount of filling mostly deep fried rubbish we ended up giving all to the dog and at nearly $40 was a bit of a rip off and also took nearly 2hours for delivery not happy at all !!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely disgusting , we ordered a chicken an corn soup which was horrible to say the lease very bland and worse than any canned soup I've ever had ended up binning it! also got satay chicken which was just revolting - the chicken was chewier than chewing gum with minimal sauce and there was just as much pineapple as chicken .pineapple? An had the sweet and sour pork which is usually my favorite but this was more of a terrible tasting repulsive sweet onion sauce with some hard and chewy balls of ?? Most definitely will not be returning your much better off to fight over food scraps with the sea gulls

Terrible!

Have recently returned to the area so wanted to see what there was on offer in the way of takeaways. The storefront was reasonably appealing/clean and the meals they had listed in the window looked pretty good. We ordered three mains with some wontons and considering we were the only people in the shop at the time we thought we would be out of there with our meals in no time... 40 Minutes later we were finally on our way home (only two further customers came in and ordered after us during our wait).

The wait itself I was ok with because usually good things take time however, when we got home and opened up the meals I was absolutely disgusted. It was complete muck, nothing had any flavour or colour. We ate a little bit of each dish but nothing was fresh or remotely close to and the flavours hasn't been cooked through. I know when ordering takeaways you aren't getting a 5 start dining experience but I do expect yummy comfort food. I would have been better off throwing the $50 odd dollars off the pier.

I really advise against wasting your money here.

We need a proper health rating system from the council in this city like they have in Auckland, so we can avoid the worst of eatery's. Avoid this place like the plague !!!This place has one of the lowest ratings on zomato !!! If i could give this place a 0,i would. I will never return.Head to the other end of sea view road if you want good fish and chips or chinese. Don't expect your meal to look anything like the photos on the wall or website menu. I hoped the chinese food would be similar to the photos put up here on zomato from an earlier review, but the food i got was very substandard in fact.1st time- I ordered bami goring. The meal had a very small amount of meat,a huge glut of noodles and the veg was the bare minimum, less than a table spoon of carrot the size of match sticks, onion and a small amount of shredded cabbage. No veg such as celery etc, that was in the images on the web site/wall,but not in the final meal. Had a strange after taste as well.2nd time- Well thought i would give them another go,they may of had a bad day. But no,it was a total ripoff. The wontons were inedible, over cooked and had a nasty smell to,so they went in the bin. The seasonal vegetables, stir fried with gravy and combination meat added, did not have a lot of meat again,no veg such as celery etc again and didn't taste rite, bitter after taste.I really don't like handing over good money for such a bad return, its like food fraud.

Our son was sick on the day we ordered Fish & Chips from Magic Wok. We had had a rough day and night so weren't in any position to cook dinner. We had actually intended to buy F&C's from the shop next door to Magic Wok, but unfortunately it was already closed.

We just bought a few fish, spring rolls and chips ... got home, opened up the package and DISAPPOINTMENT!

The chips were the best part of this, but if you take a very close look at the fish and the spring rolls ... they are all "factory standard". The fish is the same triangular shape and size, the spring rolls also look like they rolled off a factory conveyer belt. If I wanted to eat factory made and packed fish, I could have gone to Countdown, taken it home and cooked it myself. Considering they charge a standard $2.50 for the fish, this is a bit of a joke really.

When you go to a fish and chip shop, you expect battered fish that is as fresh as possible, this is clearly not the case here. On top of that, it was all rather pale having not been cooked for long enough.

The one redeeming feature is that the chips were cooked really well. Perhaps their chinese is great, but their Fish and Chips is absolutely not.

It’s a New Brighton institution. There’s not a helluva lot left that’s lasted as long as these guys in the Brighton strip. I miss their Escargot delivery vans. Their prices are keen and they understand their local market. You get those flat plastic pottles packed solid. Yes, it’s stock standard Kiwi – Chinese takeaway; there’s nothing wrong with that.

I actually love this place for Chinese takeaways!! Been coming here for about 3 years now and consistently amazing food!! We normally get the nasi goreng w extra prawns, sweet and sour pork and chicken fried rice w cashew nuts plus half a dozen wontons w sweet and sour sauce!! Never once been dissapointed as there food is always soo fresh an meat is always tender an decent sized dishes!! Got a mixed meal tonight as was only feeding myself an ohhh it was perfect!! I highly recommend to all chinese food lovers this is our top choice for chinese cuisine!!

We went here last night for tea. Was not good at all! We had the nasi goreng and a number 2 that was a combination of fried noodles, fried rice, satay beef skewer and honey chicken skewer. Nasi goreng had very little flavor and was mostly rice with little meat or veg. The rice and noodles in the number 2 were very plain and allso little flavor the skewers were dodgy as didn't even try the beef ones they had a werid red jelly on them I felt sick looking at them. The chicken ones were tough and weird tasting I'll never go back here again

I used to love this place but last night me and my partner ordered the honey chicken skewers only to be served raw chicken. Luckily we realised in time to throw them away. Their other meals were great but I no longer want to eat there if they have no quality control.

PLEASE NOTE Magic Wok is NOT on New Brighton Road but actually in New Brighton right across from the pier and their food is amazing. I love their chinese food we have been using Magic Wok for over 20 years. They deliver within a certain area and we use this service too. Value for money and really good big servings.
