Review Moon Wah - Christchurch

James Hennings
The biggest Chinese and fish and chip meals you will find in New Zealand. I ordered Bami Goreng which tasted great. But it is the same with all of their food. But THE SIZE! Three of us had it for dinner, with seconds and enough left over to do it all again! All for $19ish!

Love moon wah, have been coming here for Chinese and fish + chips for years! Be prepared for a long wait time though, best to go in as they often take their phone off the hook due to how busy they are. Sad that they have stopped doing their signature battered sausages :-( Great value for money and huge quantity of food.

LOVE LOVE LOVED IT. Wicked sizes litterly enough to feed a small army. U will be impressed this is probably the best Chinese in chch (in my opinion). Thanks heaps guys love ur food will keep coming back.

If your looking for Quantity this takeaways is the best place to come. I have a family 7 and it feeds us well. And we end up having leftovers. But the downfall would be the waiting time as some days I've come and people have preordered over the phone. But overall nice Fried Rice dishes I don't like the fish but thats my opinion.

Always massive meals. Great value for money. And always such Delicious meals!

Fantastic value for money tasty Chinese!! Go there you wont believe the serving sizes..we are still eating 2 days later. Be warned they get very busy so either phone order or be prepared to wait while they cook it. Best in Christchurch.

I've been going to Moonwah for years, just for their chinese. I always buy their Sweet & Sour Pork which will cost you about $17, however they load up the tray and I'm always finishing the rest the very next day. You do have to wait between 30-45 minutes, however it is well worth it.

Love the food from here. Sweet n sour pork is the best in chch.

This is quarter of wot I got Sweet n sour pork n fried rice Definitely ring to order or u will wait awhile but definitely worth every penny

Always friendly l, always very busy, they don't always have time to answer the phone so sometimes have to bite the bullet and go to order the wait can be up to 45min on busy days. If possible to go at lunch instead alot faster.

Massive portions of food. Different sweet and sour from usual taste but nice

Highly recommended. Top quality food that tastes amazing. Exceptional Chinese food. Waiting time’s typically 20-35 minutes from placing order. Or, you can order typical fish and chips, burgers etc. competitive and comparable pricing. Menu prices are good value for money. The portions are exceptional. Friendly owner operator dedicated to making enjoyable tasty food. Plenty of parking outside and nearby. Wheelchair access. Cash and EFTPOS.

Awesome food! Massive portions! Always busy and they can't really pick up phone due to only two of them serving all their customers. Best to go in.

Great meals, cheap and could feed the whanau no problems

Biggest portion dishes I've seen making it great value. We get at least a couple of meals out of this! Is popular and can be busy but worth the wait.

if you want large helpings of decent chinese takeaways then Moon Wah is your only choice, a drive across christchurch is worth it. anyone who says the food isnt good has to get their priorities sorted... or perhaps go to a sit it and pay double for half size food, muggles.

Absolutely beautiful food, friendly staff and good pricing. Ridiculous serving sizes. $30 will easily feed four adults with heaps leftover for the hangover.

The serving sizes are reason enough to go here - you will absolutely get your moneys worth. The food is tasty and will serve you for at least two meals. I recommend phoning your order in as being such a popular takeaway shop there is a considerable wait on the food most afternoons.

Absolutely beautiful food. You will be surprised what you get for your money. Guarantee won't go to any other Chinese takeaway. AAA+ recommend

Was fantastic went for Chinese tasted like Chinese huge portions too
Also massive big chunks of tender juicy pork in the sweet and sour pork, chicken was tender in both the lemon chicken and the chicken cashew was amazing.
Would highly recommend to everyone value for money and a mean as feed!!!!

The portions here are huge but the food is really average, we threw pretty much all of it out as it was inedible. The food was incredibly salty and greasy. We will not be back

This is THE BEST TAKEOUT EVER!!!! Staff are super friendly and they make THE BEST chinese I'd chch! I swear it's the one thing I crave on the regular and I would drive to the other side of town just to get moon wah chinese!!!!

I know that Moon Wah is a popular joint for New Brighton residents, but for the life of me I just don't know why. Yes the food portions are amazing when factoring in prices but the food is terrible.

The only reason why I have given a 1.5 is because the food portions are good, but that's if you can put up with how bad the food is. We tried a sweet and sour, fried rice and chicken chow mein. All were borderline inedible, in fact we ended up disposing of most of it unfortunately.

I'm not being a snob, I just think there are far better places in Christchurch to get a decent Chinese meal, unfortunately for New Brighton and Parklands residents, you have to bypass this place in order to get there.

Maybe I have been spoiled by the fact that so many travels around the country have meant I have eaten from some fantastic Chinese places over the years, so I will try to end on a positive note.

A fantastic place to eat from if your tastebuds died at least 3 years ago.

If you have a big family and small budget then this place is where you need to go ;) they ALWAYS pack their containers so FULL that you are NEVER disappointed on portion size. We go there often and we are BIG eaters and in 2 dishes we get enough for dinner for 2 nights and lunch.

The best Chinese takeaway!!! The portions are huge, great value for money. Very tasty. And the friendliest people you could meet. Very lovely people. I would definitely recommend to all. My family and I have been coming here for years. Would not go anywhere else :)

The best take away joint in ch ch the portions are huge and the service friendly and i wouldn't dine anywhere else and highly recommend it to all those Chinese food lover. The scenery is fantastic only a stones throw away from the New Brighton beach and the people are friendly.

This Diner in Bower ave. Very good value for money for what you get.

Sweet & sour pork just under $15.00 HUGE plastic container filled to the brim with generous sized pieces of pork. I'm a big eater, and this did me for dinner, and leftover for lunch the following day!

The Fish & Chips are excellent value too. Half a scoop is extremeley generous, beautiful curry rolls, fried fish, and jam raps, although I wasnt overly keen on their meat patties, mostly potato filling.

Excellent value for feeding a family, generous hamburgers too. If I were to make one critisism it would be a tad cleaner in their work station. At times there can be a bit of food over the floor behind the counter, and it would be good to see them practice a bit more hygiene skills, e.g, rubber gloves etc. But I have to say we have never been sick from consuming their food. I'm a regular of Moon Wah, excellent value for money and polite staff.

Like most Chinese takeaways in NZ, the dishes all have a sameness about them. However I give it three stars simply because it has to be the best value for money food I have come across. They cram so much food into the plastic containers that lids are superfluous.
