Fantastic food and coffee and the staff are super friendly and very helpful. I come here every Friday for breakfast and they never disappoint me.

Really nice food. I had a chicken and mushroom filo rap, That was beautiful. The chicken pies a full to the top with real chicken. Would return in a heart beat.

This place is ridiculous! Ordered egg omelette x2, waited for at least 50minutes for one egg omelette and got another wrong order, so they had to take plate back and apparently gave our order to the wrong table!!!! Top it up,, who waits for an egg to be cooked for an hour??? Seriously?? And this manager is just laughing at us!!!! Terrible! No way going back,,
Colleen Green
Terrible, so won't be going back. Fish meal, 3 pieces each smaller than a 20cent piece and when we questioned she laughed at us! Gave the wrong wine and she took it back and poured it back into the bottle?

Great toy area for kids in the back corner. Lots of space but I think the food prices are a bit high. Kids fluffies are more tempting for kids here, lots of chocolate sauce and two marshmallows.
Wendy Macdonald
enjoyed my lunch but being a cold day the cafe could of been a bit warmer

Meal was great but the guy who was working tonight really freaked me out. He stood behind the counter staring at us. Made me feel very uncomfortable. Certainly won't go back.

Great cafe friendly staff and amazing ice chocolates will defiantly be going back

Don't bother going here it is a waste of your money. We used to come regulary when it was under the old management and it was always yummy unfortunately this has changed. The breakfast was not good very pricey and poor quality. My partner had the big breakfast and it came with budget brown bread and a saveloy (frankfurter) not a sausage as the menu says. When we questioned them we were told it was a sausage I was not impressed. Would not return, think McDonalds breakfast would have been more satisfying and a lot cheaper!!

Every year I visit this place because of its accessibility but there's NO improvement at all. Cabinet food is still the same. Very basic. Scones, pies. More like a bakery than a cafe. But VERY EXPENSIVE. Staff are not friendly too.

Been twice recently for brunch and have been very satisfied with the meal. Certainly one of the best and consistent Eggs Benedict I have had. Pleasant staff, great selection of food and reasonable prices. I will be going back.

With an enormous "Gluten Free" sign at the end of the counter, anyone with food allergies might think they'd be on to a good thing.
Nope, at 11.15 on a Monday morning there was nothing at all in the cabinets that were gluten free.
So I settled for a bowl of fries with aioli ... the fries were fine but the aioli was devoid of any trace of garlic.
No complaints about the coffee, though at about $4.70 apiece they have to be among the most expensive in the city.
Such a shame Euro seems to have gone to the dogs, as it used to be a great cafe.

Went before Xmas. Meals were very average. Place was hot and stuffy and very tired looking. Thick layers of dust on skirting's clearly not cleaned so very off putting. Went to use pepper shaker but pepper hardened in shaker and unusable. No one checking this. Moisture obviously has got in the shaker. Dishes left while we had coffee wasn't busy and no excuse as staff available. Would not return unless hear standard of food better, service and cleanliness sorted.

We have frequented Cafe Euro on a number of occasions. The service is always lovely. This morning we arrived asking for a table for two. We were greeted warmly by Rebecca and offered the menus. We opted for the brunch menu and were then asked if we would like her to take our order from our table. I offered to come to the counter when we were ready, but it was a lovely touch to have had the option. Rebecca was thorough in her order taking and repeated my order back (I have tricky coffee order) which caused a little confusion, but was sorted in the end. Her pleasant nature and confident easy going approach gave a 'homely feel'. The coffees were great. But I have to be honest now, every visit we have had (quite regularly) has always been disappointing when it comes to the food. We had breakfasts, my partner laughed that frankfurter sausages appeared in place of a real sausage! The potato rosti? was gooey and almost inedible. At least the tomato sauce was free of charge (some other restaurants charge up to a $1.50 for a dollop!) My breakfast was also a let down. I had french toast with bacon, banana and maple syrup. 4 pieces of nice eggy cinnamon bread, but with only a half banana and 2 pieces of bacon to spread over four pieces of bread, I had to steal the bacon off my partners plate to have a decent meal. I have also ordered from the cabinet on prior occasions. The bread had been microwaved with butter and cheese creating a rubber that could not be cut or bitten through. I really feel that this cafe has everything going for it (especially Rebecca, and no I am no friend or relative, just thankful for friendly wholesome service). But the kitchen needs to up its game to retain clientele. All the best Cafe Euro. We may give you a month or two to lift your food quality and be back to enjoy your atmosphere.

Went there over Christmas period, as soon as we walked in the door the heat was over whelming (no air conditioning turned on) The meal I ordered was not available sweet and sour pork:-( have a dish that was supposed to be a mixture of fried things (not all there), my husband didn't finish his meal either sweet was pouring off both of us , as for the milk that was sitting on the bench in the warmth , wouldn't have a coffee, came away really disappointed.

Took my 94 year old mother out for her birthday dinner with her sister, my two daughters and my granddaughter to Euro for this special occasion.
What a disappointment. Ordered the Prawns x 3, Pumpkin and Chickpea Fritters x 1 Honeyed Chicken x 2. Caesar Salad x 1. Prawns to be served with Tomato and Avocado Salsa, arrived with prawns dried out and no salsa. Pumpkin & Chickpea Fritters were one large pile of mix, not individual fritters. Honeyed Chicken edible but salads not edible due to state of the lettuce. Caesar Salad drenched in dressing and lettuce not fresh but slimy.
Took salad to kitchen where discovered a very inexperienced person cooking, no idea of how to cook fritters, assemble a Caesar Salad and some ingredients not available that night.
Decided to pay for the drinks and the Honeyed Chicken after being offered a 30% discount but after further discussion with the manager he suggested that we pay nothing. We were of course happy with this outcome and pleased with the way it was handled but would be very reluctant to return to this restaurant.

Absolutely terrible, I have been here many times and never enjoy it. The service is not with a smile. Today I ordered fries with aioli and asked for tomato when I ordered. The cafe was not busy so there is no excuse as to why the tomato sauce was missing. The music is so over bearing and the magazine selection is over 2 years old. I find the food to be over priced, rude staff and very average food along with an inviting layout. This is my local but I don't feel I want to support this shocking cafe, for the price we pay may as well go somewhere nice.
Andrew Kerr
Nothing wrong with the food or service but for the price it is pretty average.

This is the worst cafe in CHCH. I ate there this morning and the whole experience was terrible. Would not go back again. There were hairs in my friends food, the service was disgusting, the staff were inexperienced, there was a lack of customer service, overpriced for a terrible meal. My salad was drenched in dressing and ruined but to be honest even if it wasn't drenched in dressing it would of still been bad! My friends all day brekkie was missing butter for the toast, no tomato sauce, and as mentioned above there were 2 hairs on the plate! I don't understand how people like this can run a so called business like this It is an outrage.

We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. It wasn't busy when we got there, but it was steady. We ordered the eggs benedict and the big breakfast - cost almost $50. The waitress was quite nice and friendly. Although it seemed that the staff were quite inexperienced by the way that one waitress was telling the others what needed to be done. The meals took about 30 minutes to come out and my eggs benedict came out with fries when it was meant to be a hash brown, this wasn't told to us at the time of ordering, but they had run out of hash browns. The eggs benedict was okay, but not for the amount we had paid for it. My partner's meal was served with stone cold cooked tomatoes (they must have been sitting for a while), overcooked frankfurters (not sausages that was suggested on the menu), fries (which were meant to be hash browns) and overcooked poached eggs. A coffee was then bought out and with our son sitting next to us the waitress lifted the coffee over his head instead of slipping it down beside us (where there was plenty of room to move) Overall the experience was less than enjoyable and will not be going back again.

Went for lunch as had visitors down from Nelson and have had several Great Business breakfasts there in the past.
Ordered Chicken and Cranberry Filo, Salmon Frittata, Chicken and Cranberry pie and a Mince and Cheese pie along with a slice of Carrot cake and a chocolate fudge-cake. Beverages were a Medium Cappuccino, Hot Chocolate and tea pot for 2.
The Chicken and Cranberry Filo was warm but not hot, the Salmon Frittata and both the pies were cold and we asked for all 3 to be reheated, two dishes came back looking scorched and not overly warm but the mince and cheese pie had to go back a second time so was replaced but was returned still not completely heated through. The carrot cake was the worst I have ever tasted and was more like a flan with a tasteless coating of what I assume was a cream cheese frosting, and the cappuccino was a flat white with a little froth.
The lunch cost me over $50.00 which would have been OK had it been somewhat presentable.
It was noted that there was a lot of food being sent back for reheating and conversations were being had by other customers around this subject
There seems to be different people in this cafe from the last time I was there and I will not be returning
Not a difficult selection to get correct but the Cafe managed to completely get it wrong

Decided to go to Cafe Euro to try their dinner menu. so it was back on a freezing cold Thursday evening.
I had the rib eye steak with mushroom sauce, it is perfect. Really nice mushroom sauce i have than the other place. but i do not like the eggplant in the veg. My other half had the rib eye steak with blue cheese and it excellent. I did steal some of his kumara mash though - really good.
because i chose the fries instead of kumara mash .

I had the browine cheese cake . It was sweet. It's not often desserts defeat me but it happened!

The service was okay, and the waiter was very polite.
The cafe wasn't busy which surprises me. Maybe because they just open their dinner not very long.

Being a family dinner, we arrived early (5.30) and had the place to ourselves. The cafe is spacious and inviting... except for the loud 'classic hits' music (honestly, "Kids in America", "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme"; it was intrusive and camp.) The waiting services is good; friendly and thoughtful.

Our food was slow to arrive, we had originally chosen the chicken breast but were informed this would take at least 30 minutes longer to cook than our other picks (an odd lack of menu cohesion.) The "Euro bread" entree, was merely a third of a baguette, toasted with garlic butter. At $6.50 this might be worth an entry in any Christchurch's Meanest Entree Contest. A wait inexcess of 30 minutes, between the end of our entree and the main arriving, was testing for the younger members of our party.

We ordered two steaks and two fish. The other mains options being the aforementioned chicken, pizza, and the vegetarian chickpea pattie.

The ribeye needed further fat trimmed. It was obviously scarred with cuts to check the cooking. Yet, the medium rare, was closer to medium. The kumara mash was lumpy and bland. It was served with a small portion of stir fry veg, almost entirely consisting of peppers. The blue cheese sauce was inexplicably served cold, while the mushroom sauce was rich and tasty.

The fish was Monk. It was overcooked. The outside was burnt, not seared. It was dry and over flavoured in a peanut-y sauce. It came with a citrus couscous and two baked tomatoes. The flavours didn't really work together. The dish was unbalanced and forgettable.

This type of food is done far better, and at a much fairer price in pubs and cafes all over town.

My friend & I went for the new dinner menu.
Dissapointing that they had no wine available just the house wine that was okish. There was only one staff member that seemed to know what was available, she was a lovely young lady & was very helpful.
The Caesars salad I had was the worst I have ever had, and while it was only $13 , I would rather pay the extra $5 and get the best.
The meal my friend had was okish, but not great. The service was great but only from the one person.

Outstanding food and service. Clean and welcoming place. Manager Sharon is a star. Wide selection of meals (e.g. full brekkies, savory pies, sammies, wraps, single desserts, whole cakes) many on mouthwatering display. Not your same-old same-old, but some familiar plates done with imagination. High-end affordable for the average working person, but you, get what you pay for -- value for money.

We visited today this place for first time and we enjoyed it!
good location-with parking-just few meters from Avonhead mall.
Very fresh & tasty food- breakfast and European pastry/cakes .Welcoming atmosphere, great decor, outside dining area :few tables that you can enjoy your coffee (excellent hammerbird beans coffee) outside.kid's breakfast is nice that our kid loved to eat too.Stuff is friendly.Pastry are a bit pricey but fresh, well presented and good texture and taste -so can't complain.
Only can add that they didn't bring water and glasses to our table- i did ask for water - i picked it by myself. Can sagest to add something for kids-to keep them busy.
