Review Bar Yoku. Sake + Yakitori - Christchurch

Hands down one of the best Japanese in the country! The salmon and white fish Sashimi was so fresh and delicious so much so that we ordered another dish as dessert. Service is outstanding. Friendly staff who go the extra mile. Great atmosphere and well spaced out tables. Having just moved from Auckland this will be at the top of my regular list. Even fur babies are allowed. Thanks team Bar Yoku!

Loved my first dining experience at Bar Yoku. The service was friendly and engaging. We had the soft shell sushi tacos- DELISH!! We also shared the Sashimi Platter - the best I’ve had in Christchurch. The fish was fresh ! We had the Tofu salad to share - loved the dressing. So yummy . Then we had to have the charcoal skewers - the prawns were tasty , loved the mayo dressing ( wasabi maybe?) Can’t wait to return !! Only tiny Croatian is no chairs with back support for us oldies 🤣

I had a fantastic experience. The food was creative and delicious, with unique flavor combinations that really impressed me. First time trying raw waygu beef great experience. Sitting opposite to yakitori wasn’t a thing for me but was a new experience. ( looked like no other table options for couples). Delicious food. Food 5/5 Atmosphere 2.5/5 Staff 3/5

First visit, very impressed. Food was amazing, so tasty and great variety. We had a range of dishes and everything was great. The drinks menu is extensive and whatvwe had was lovely. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. We will definitely be back! Found it a bit noisy but that's being picky!

Why have I not been here earlier! The place is awesome, nestled in the Welder and all its greeny goodness, Bar Yoku is a real Japanese treat. We ordered a bunch of really diverse dishes (easy to do) and they were all fantastic. Everything was well prepared, looked great on the plate and tasted amazing. Service was friendly and attentive, and by the time we left the place was heaving. So best to book ahead me thinks. Thanks Team Bar Yoku, we had a blast!

Beautiful setting full of greenery. The food was very authentic and delishios. We had Agadashi Tofu and Karaage Chicken. Both were excellent. Reasonable price too. Highly recommend.

Fantastic Japanese food and brilliant service. We all loved it and we're quite a picky bunch (elderly mother, vegetarian, teenagers... ). One of the best cocktails I've had. We'll definitely be back..

Yakitori (meat on a skewer) is delicious here!! The quality is on point and a must try for those who enjoy meat! Smaller portions to try many unusual options (heart, gizzard, tongue) that make it the authentic yakitori experience.

Love the vibes here, would be great for pairs of groups. The staff are super friendly and I really liked the sushi tacos though a little pricey for the size. They have them for half price on Saturdays before dinner time if you order a drink. The kushiyaki I found a little bit salty (the marinated ones), though I did enjoy the oyster yakitori with the skin and meat alternating.

WOW, WOW, WOW! This place is amazing and I can't believe I have not been here before! It was really busy for a Friday lunch time but the staff were lovely, friendly and efficient and the food came out in a timely manor! Everything we had was beautiful. Karaage Chicken, Pork Belly Skewers, Beef Tataki and Crab and Prawn Sushi Tacos. We will 100% be back for more! Highly recommend! Nice work to the team at Bar Yoku!

Bar Yoku is my favourite restaurant in town. A family run business that is exquisite. You’ve got to get your hands on their famous sushi tacos, and their beef tataki is mouthwatering. It’s always got a great buzz to it and the team are friendly and kind. Highly recommend.

Bar Yoku is one of several places that share a central internal courtyard space that is beautifully lit, so it feels like you're outside. We took a table in the courtyard so I can't speak as to the interior of the eatery. The menu had familiar Japanese dishes on it, but also a few things that should have been better explained as we needed to ask Google. My daughter ordered a Sushi Taco, which looked stunning, and she assured me it was crunchy and delicious. I ordered the Raw Wagyu Beef, which was explained to be finely diced, I asked if it was like Tartare, and she confirmed. Which it wasn't. It was small chunks, and although the accompanying flavours were good, I couldn't eat most of the meat. It even made me feel a bit sick. Sinew and chewy-not very enjoyable. The tofu salad - don't waste your money. It was far too cold and lacking in anything apart from cold lettuce. The Salmon Sashimi, like the beef, was cut too thick and sadly wasn't a melt in your mouth experience. Best value for money, but most generic dish was the deep-fried Karaage Chicken pieces. The serving was big, and it was tasty, but not exactly the Japanese finesse I was expecting from the menu.

As if we needed another reason to love this restaurant - they have a Keto menu which was so delicious and so rare to come across. Staff were exceptional and we will definitely be back!

The food here is excellent. Highly recommended. Good staff, prompt, knowledgeable, friendly, and sometimes just a bit amusing, which is refreshing. Only one thing to note is that it is a touch chilly (it was winter when we went) because of the structure of the building. To ensure that temperature doesn't detract from a great meal and a very good dining experience, bring layers so you can add or remove layers as required. Do that and you'll have a very happy time.

I love Bar Yoku!❤️ The food was delicious, the staff were excellent and the atmosphere was lively. Not the best soft shell crab I've eaten but the sushi taco was unique. Thanks for a wonderful night Bar yoku staff! Definitely coming back again.. ❤️❤️❤️

Amazing food. Some of the skewers are cooked over a barbecue grill so they have an amazing flavour. Everything was perfect. Very expensive though for a lunch. As much as we really enjoyed the food we would have to think twice about eating here at these prices.

The NZ brewed sake was outstanding and so were the meals.
