Review Zepplin Cafe Gallery - Clive

James Spooner
3/8/23 First time here. We came in without a booking, thankfully we were seated at a leaner. Lots of seating and even at 11am was starting to get busy. A good range of food and drink on the menu, and the prices are reasonable. I had the seafood chowder which was very good. My partner has the beef cheeks which was cooked to perfection. So we have found a spot that we will frequently go to. I recommend trying this place, ring to book a table to be safe. I will post photos next time, and there will be a next times!! 2/9/23 Jarks for lunch, beautiful so opted for outside seating. Beef cheeks was lovely as always, the fish and chips were good fish was delicious. This spot is my new fav!

'Steak' was the demand from our daughter, so a quick google found Jarks. The reviews looked good and as it was only 3 minutes walk from our Motel, off we went. It was 6pm on a Friday and the place had a good vibe, and the staff looked happy to be there. Table service was prompt. The rare eye filet was cooked great.

Lovely place for dinner. We all had Ribeye steak and it was yum. Not a scrape left on the plate. Highly recommend a visit.

An excellent evening spent at Jarks. 10 of us went for a family birthday and it was a great experience. We sat down and the server introduced herself and asked if we wanted drinks and then starters. They came out quickly and were delicious. We ordered mains and the wait wasn't bad. However when the meal came out they had stuffed 2 of the orders up so they gave us the wrong meals but also made our original meals too. They didn't charge us for the 2 people who's meals were wrong. They also told as as when they spotted the error. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The place was busy but not crowded. The staff were helpful, and very polite. I 10/10 reccomend coming here

Looking for a nice lunch and very relaxing surroundings then this is a good place to go. Also there is a great closed in yard for kids to play in. They have an art gallery as well with some nice paintings by local artists. The food was delicious. Very helpful staff. Recommend a visit.

I really liked this quirky little place! I had the prawns, which were divine. The kids enjoyed their eggs.
My coffee wasn't what I ordered, but I'm sure it was just a mix up! Still tasted nice :)

Visited for the first time for lunch with a girl friend. The cafe was busy and the car park was full, usually a good sign. The cafe is housed in a nice quirky building and the wooden steps lead you up into the cafe area. As others have mentioned the cabinet food choice was sparse (it was 1.30 pm though.....) so we had to choose from the extensive lunch menu. There were lots of veggie items which makes a nice change for the non carnivores.

The man behind the counter was very pleasant, gave good advice and took our order promptly. It was interesting to look at the art and quirky pieces all around the place while finding a table. Outside is a very nice decking area and garden, which will look amazing when the vines have had chance to grow overhead. The garden is safe for children and as it is behind the cafe, away from the main road.

Our coffee order arrived and it was good. The food was also quick to arrive. The chicken caesar salad looked homemade and tasted good, so did the falafel patties. They were serviced with just the right amount of sour cream, salad and chilli sauce. We would have completed lunch with a cake from the cabinet but the choice was minimal and we decided against it.

We would definitely go back to Zepplin, maybe earlier to try the cabinet food next time. The only downside for us was that the younger wait staff seem to be quite miserable and moping around, they just need some interaction with their customers and to look like they're enjoying themselves a bit more. Guys you're lucky to have a local business to work in, rather than travel to Napier/Hastings, please do them proud!

On a long drive back home from Gisborne to Wellington we were a bit peckish by the time we got to Hawkes Bay ... and found this place! Being Led Zeppelin fans it appealed to us immediately. The environment is quirky although confused, but works. Sort of Kiwiana meets Andy Warhol ... we were greeted by a very nice man behind the counter and sat down to order. I had my standard pot of tea (no complaints) and the eggs bennie with salmon and spinach. The Mr had the mixed grill. The eggs were cooked to perfection - it's great that the mother-n-law up the line can cook better than a trained chef in the big smoke. We both enjoyed our meals and will go back when passing again.

Had lunch here. Food was beautiful, I recommend the salmon crepes! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great outdoor seating for on a gorgeous Hawke's Bay day and fun things for the kids to do.

My children and I had breakfast here and had a wonderful time. The service was very friendly and the food arrived very quickly. I had mushrooms which were perfectly cooked and simply delicious, the best I have had anywhere. My young children had toys to play with, lovely staff to annoy and both had an egg in an eggcup which was eaten very quickly. My coffee was also excellent as I am very fussy about coffee. A fantastic all round experience and very cool surroundings.

Two of us had lunch there. We arrived at about 12.45 and were surprised to see there was very little counter food left.
We were not wanting a large meal so we ordered the platter for 2. When it arrived we were disappointed as most of the small dishes were salsas or pickled vegetable type dishes and there were 5 pieces of toasted bread. The roasted olives were very tasty. There needed to be more salami or cheese to go with the salsas etc and also more crackers or bread.
The service was good.
The atmosphere is casual and relaxed.

Two of us had lunch there and enjoyed the overall experience but we felt the servings were too small for the prices being charged. I don't normally have dessert but after the mushroom vol au vent I was still hungry so I needed two courses. The quality of the food was a good average.

My husband and I had lunch here last week. The food was ok but we felt the menu was lacking. It was just past midday and they had very little left of the counter food. We had to ask for water which arrived with lipstick on the glasses. What could be a lovely grass area was just weeds and dead lawn with dandelions everywhere, great for the bees! Have to say the staff were all very nice but we won't be returning which as Clive locals is a pity.
A very friendly and busy place with a nice greeting on entering the café, followed by good service and plenty of attention to detail. There seemed to be plenty of staff on hand and our meals arrived promptly and were well heated (we chose from the cabinet). Lots of space outside with tables and a large grass area. We enjoyed our lunch, especially the desserts. The only suggestion I would like to make is to provide a printout of what we were paying for as we were quoted a figure and just paid up. I would certainly go back.

Well I am happy to write the second review and it is in total contrast to the first! My friend and I met last week at Zepplin Cafe and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch! The atmosphere was buzzing with several obvious end of year work parties. We were greeted on arrival by a friendly young waitress who recommended a table and continued to be attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. We both chose the mushroom vol au vent dish after a leisurely glass of wine the meals arrived , wonderfully presented and tasted every bit as good as it looked. I am a Clive local and proud of our new Cafe, I recommend it as a fun place to meet, lovely food, friendly staff. See you soon!

I'm sorry that the first review for this much anticipated is a negative one... I can only hope that others have had better experiences! I went to Zepplin last week for lunch. I ordered the "Chef's Platter" - daily creation of the chef. About 5 minutes after ordering, another waiter came over to ask what we ordered again. We waited for almost half an hour for our food. When it did arrive my platter looked most unappealing and it largely comprised of what I could only guess was cold mashed potato mixed with some sort of grain - a very odd creation! There was nothing nice on the platter and I barely touched it. The staff ignored this, never asked how our meal was (at the table or when I paid). We also weren't asked if we would like more drinks when waiting for our food. Overall bad food and bad service. I wont be returning nor recommending this place to anyone.
