Review Kaizen At Go Vino - Cooks Beach

Lovely Food, very well prepared as a sharing meal. We enjoyed every dish and a friendly service. Booking is recommended.

Would 100% recommend the tasting menu with wine pairings. The owner is very knowledgeable and the meals are tasty. They have no problem swapping out meals if you have food preferences as well. Coffee is good from the window during the day as well

Excellent food, wine (and craft beer) and service. Actually wondering whether it’s worth eating elsewhere in the Coromandel. The gnocchi was pillowy soft, tuna and beef poke well marinated and perfectly seasoned, and perfectly cooked ostrich. Service was attentive and swift, with helpful context about the ingredients and dishes. The wine list is expansive and incredibly well priced. The craft beer list equally so!

We had the tasting menu, trust the chef.. Really great selection, although it was almost too much food. It would have been nice to have had less selection and added a desert? Beautifully presented and super tasty. Definitely will be back.

Totally amazing dining experience. They have a spreadsheet to check on any allergy! Service is better than anywhere else.

The food in this place is absolutely delicious! It isn’t always easy to find something for everyone (with all of us being vegetarian). This place took us by surprise, and the entire family enjoyed all flavourful creations.

Amazing place for dinner, we had the light meal, 3 dishes, dumplings, Balinese fish then the roast pork….wow amazing presentation, amazing flavours and great service. Highly recommend you try Kaizen if you are in the area….you won’t be disappointed.

Delicious food and owners that go the extra mile. Originally I had to cancel as I didn’t realise it wasn’t in whitianga - however the owner kindly offered to meet us at the ferry and drop us back. Another example of coromandel businesses going the extra mile! Was so nice to catch a sunset ferry and experience their tasty and varied menu at reasonable prices. Particularly enjoyed the dumplings, Balinese fish and sorbet dessert. Well worth it!

This was our wedding reception venue and i couldnt fault the atmosphere and staff! They were very accommodating and the garden bar with outdoor games was very entertaining for the kids. The food was very tasty and generous. We had a very good night! Thank you

We visited in a Sunday evening as a group of 4 after a gap of 3 years. The tasting menu was just fantastic. We would never have ordered the Scotch egg which was just delicious and complex. The ostrich with soy was a flavour explosion and the gurnard burrito was special. The wines we chose, Riesling were a perfect accompaniment. Great service. Lovely summer evening outdoors. We will be back, an extraordinary restaurant and experience, esp with roads out and a recent cyclone

Such a great restaurant with the absolutely most amazing food and service. Seriously lovely service. Totally just go - you will live this place. Mmmmmmm

Great Food Experience with a sharing plates concept! Really tasty

The food was delicious and the owners were amazing. Only reason I ranked it at 4 instead of 5 was the portion size. It is supposed to be a restaurant where everyone shares the food ordered. I went by myself ordered 2 dishes; one on the light end and one towards the heavy side. Yet I left still a little hungry. The taste and options were awesome, and they let me eat without a reservation! Maybe next time I should order a pizza to go. (Pictured: goat cheese brulee, and Brazilian Lamb)

We didn’t know what to expect from this little restaurant in Cooks beach but oh my were we delighted! Blown away by the prawn dumplings and the monkfish. So many delicious desserts to choose from but the Hokey was a taste sensation! Excellent wine list. Lovely outdoor setting and attentive staff. Thank you!

We had a fantastic evening at Kaizen last night. The food is so interesting and has amazing flavours. I often look for dishes that I wouldn't prepare at home and these combinations were far too complex for me to dream up or attempt! Nice to be able to try several dishes with the shared plate concept. Loved the outdoor setting. Service was great.

Had the nicest food and lovely service and sitting under the olive tree. Ten out of ten

Tasting menu was amazing. The food was cooked perfectly and the flavours were incredible. So much food that by the time we got to the 8th course we could barely walk home. Great value for money and the staff were really accommodating and responsive. Could not recommend higher.

Absolutely awesome place to dine, the sharing plate idea so you can all enjoy, the amazing variation of styling and design for each meal, 10/10 We will be back for sure !

Wow.... is all I can say. What an absolute amazing dinner at Go Vino! Right from the beginning of our night the staff were amazing and welcoming, the food and drinks were fantastic and we left full and satisfied. I highly recommend going to this friendly restaurant for a very high quality night!

Innovative food, interesting wines, and importantly for me, the ability and willingness to cater for my dietary requirements as a Coeliac. The staff were friendly and helpful, the courtyard ambience just right. The chocolate tart with cassis sorbet deserves a special mention. I had to be held back from licking the plate, and I sincerely regret asking for that second spoon for my partner. Next time it's all mine :)

Great concept with really good food👍 Nice thing to share all the food! Really enjoyed our last night in NZL at this restaurant.

Suburb!! We had a great dining experience at Go Vino last night. It was my husbands birthday and we went with friends. We were so pleased we had booked otherwise we would have missed out on stunning food and wine. Highly recommend if you are visiting Cooks Beach - not to be missed! :-)

This wonderful food and a great treat as a vegetarian. As I often find there is only one dish on the menu that I can eat. The flavours and presentation are great. And a lovely way to share a meal with friends &/or family. Definitely a Must

Still my favourite restaurant in NZ. Even after a hectic morning they were happy to tailor their dishes to our vegetarian and vegan diets and the tastes, textures and presentation were all delicious.

Had takeaway pizzas that were not great - very greasy and tasteless 🙁for $96 for 4 pizzas expected quality, stone baked not greasy cafe type .

Rude man at the bar treated us like lepers when we arrived, waitress was cold and lacking personality but pizzas were good

Very good service, attentive. Food =special, thoughtful menu, changed regularly. Shared plates, pretty sociable, nothing quite compares to the conviviality of shared plates. Broad wine, spirit, beer range....whatever your fancy or tipple. Looking forward to the summer, when the garden space will be a welcome retreat.

Outstanding !!! What an experience. Excellent food, delicious wine 🍷 and amazing service.

The Sunday roast was delicious last night! It was an ample serving with a variety of tasty vegetables and a choice of 3 types of roast meats. Yum! I'll be back for another one!

The new menu is nothing short of blowing your mind. The service, the people and the chef are what makes this place amazing. I absolutely recommend going here and dare you to indulge. Best spent money ever.

We had an amazing dinner - chef's tasting menu. Food was delicious definitely equal to many Auckland restaurants for a far cheaper price. Wine & beer menu also great. Very accommodating of our two-year old twin boys. Will definitely be back next time we are in the Coromandel, and just wish it was in Devonport!

I have been to this restaurant 3 times, I have always had really, really good food.
I eat out several times a week in Auckland and this equals any top restaurant.

What I want to say is this, as good as it is the owner has a very abrupt attitude to customers and needs to learn some customer service skills.
The first time he was rude I put it down to a busy night and a little bit of stress. This is not the case as have been in on a quiet night and he is the same.
I mentioned it to some friends who had been there and they all agreed, great food, bad attitude from the owner.

Fantastic evening here on Friday 3 May. Special dinner and show with Elvis impersonator who was very good. Excellent singing and body movements. Obviously an avid Elvis Fan like me! Hope the video uploads as this is my first time doing this.
Nope, it hasn't so go to our Ferry Landing Lodge Facebook page. Managed to embed it on that. Enjoy!

An Easter wedding in the family, fairly short notice, Cooks Beach my daughter's choice. Go Vino gave us a brilliant dinner. We are mostly vegetarians and we were given delicious, smart stylish food. Terrific wine choices too. Wish this was my local!

What a pleasure it was to come across this fantastic restaurant in an out of the way location. The food was superbly presented and the taste of each dish was better than the last.It was obvious that behind each dish lay a passionate chef that had spent the time experimenting with different tastes and textures and we so appreciated it.This restaurant is worth the trip to Cooks Beach and I will certainly recommend it to anyone who is heading to the Coromandel. Well done to the chef and team at GoVino!

The restaraunt is simply wonderful! The chef definitely loves his food, the flavours are exquisite, presentation is magnificent and imaginative. We went for an intimate wedding reception, and they were wonderful hosts and helpful when we rushed some things, and delayed others. I cannot give these guys enough credit. Brilliant

Wow what a find!! We went there on deal voucher and were treated like Royalty when we arrived!

The Service - 10 out of 10
The Food- 10 out of 10
The Wine - 10 out of 10

We actually asked for the chef to come out so we could applaud him. Beef Cheeks, Pork Tenderloins and the Prawns from the Kaizen dishes were all outstanding.

You are mad if you are in the area and don't dine here!

Our group of Whitianga ladies came across to sample Go Vino & were very pleased we made the effort. Food & presentation was amazing & many of our 27 will be back soon. A thoroughly enjoyable evening & Ryan described each course in detail which was appreciated. Delicious food, fabulous wines & a very friendly reception will ensure return visits from us. Thanks to Ryan & the chefs for a lovely meal. Can absolutely recommend it.....

This restaurant is as good as they get. We really enjoyed lunch and dinner here. Just a pity we hadn't discovered it the previous night. They have tapa style dishes that are bigger than the usual tapa dish. I have uploaded a photo of the gurnard and salmon dish and one of a cheese cake dessert. Many thanks for a scrumptious meal

What a major surprise!
Once I learned on arrival that the food was similar to "Tapas" my heart sank. I've eaten tapas in Spain many times and am just not a fan. However, these small dishes, well, not so small really, are designed for the Kiwi appetite and the 6 of us would rate the food as good as any we had tasted....and it just keeps on coming!
Congratulations, and please stay in Cooks Beach...unless you come to Auckland!
Peter K

For a few years now my wife and myself have been visiting and staying at Cooks Beach for weekends and holidays. On a regular basis we eat meals at Go Vino, the only restaurant at Cooks. Why? The food and service just gets better every time with regular menu changes, new wines to try and a pleasant atmosphere - it's easy to make this our restaurant of choice. The "Kaisen" meals coupled with matching wines and boutique beers are good value and a rare treat to find in NZ. Ryan/Paul - you are doing a great job.

Wow, what an experience! Who would have thought such deliciousness could be found in little old Cooks Beach... Worth the trip just for the food let alone the fantastic selection of beverages - Ask Ryan to make you one of his special cocktails, they are awesome!! Thanks Ryan and team, we had a fantastic time and great food throughout the conference, keep it up :)

Just had another dinner at Go Vino, Cooks Beach.........always so incredibly impressed at the food and service.......the food no matter what we order every time it is amazing, beautiful combinations and love the kaizen (small plate) dining as you get to taste a selection of the menu, which is almost impossible to choose from as there is always so many that sound delicious......have even tried the options that I think I wouldn't like and are always amazed that I DO like them!!!
Huge pat on the back to the owner and chef.....I would give it a 10/10...best food I have had in a long time!!!

I've twice eaten at Go Vino - brunch and lunch - and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Four of us cycled over from Whitianga and dropped in for a coffee and decided on the spur of the moment to have brunch. The meals were perfectly cooked and generously sized and we were all impressed. Lunch for two a few weeks later was just as tasty. The service was helpful and friendly, and the owner deserves a pat on the back for staying open year round. We've told others about it and will definitely be back.

I actually googled searched for a good restaurant around Cooks beach and Go Vino came up.I read the reviews and decided to give it a shot by trying their roast meals which is served on Sundays only.So we booked 3 pork roast meals and headed down from Auckland. The meals were simply great and probably the best pork roast I have ever had!The restaurant is a total hideway in cooks beach. You wouldn't even know it existed. The next day we went to coromandel and thought of trying the "pepper tree"but at the last moment we backed out and decided to travel back to cooks beach through the 309 road and give their famed tapas meals a try.True to their word they had lovely fusions and the concept was amazing. This is a genuine place, they provide the best meals, value for money and backed up with service which is impeccable and personalised.Try the $35 Platters if you are in a group of 3 or more and you will get to try a variety of their meals.I would come back here in heartbeat and now I know that the best restaurants are always tucked in small coastal towns.I would put it up there If I had to review for Conde Nast traveller magazines best restaurants!
Sumit Lanong
NZAA
419 Great south road,
Penrose,Auckland

What a culinary secret Cooks Beach hides with Go Vino.

If you love great cuisine and service full of personality and character then this place is for you.

I had three dishes from the kaizen small plate selection, the Lamb back strap was to die for, venison in a red wine & berry reduction sent me to heaven and I had to ask the Chef the secret to his house made Gnocchi (he kindly obliged).

Great wine selection; not the usual super market stuff; rather a superb exploration of New Zealand wineries, unpretentious help was at hand to select the perfect liquid accompaniment for my food.

All in all it doesn’t get much better and what a surprise!

We arrived at the end of one of those wet and windy days,in need of a lift to our spirits and we certainly got that. The menu was stunning,a balanced variety of enticing dishes to choose from for me. However my wife isnt as adventurous with her food so we asked for help from the very friendly maitre'd. The crumbed egg was something I never would have chosen for myself and it was great. The hapuka and lamb were both cooked to perfection and the wine the best value I have ordered. So good was the food that we delayed our departure the next day so we could have breakfast there as well.A must for anyone in Cooks or within a 100km radius!

wow. the Coromandel peninsular is breathtakingly beautiful. First time in NZ we really lucked out. Our only regret was not discovering Go Vino at Cooks Beach on our first night and not our last. The food is amazing, unpretentious, mouthwatering delicious, moreish. I just wish my stomach was larger so I could have eaten the whole menu. Opted to let our well heeled jandle wearing matre de choose our array of tasting plates and wine and after our first mouthful awaited every new dish with delighted anticipation. Felt like a kid in a candy store. Big thanks for one of the best feasts and evenings we have ever had. If you like really beautiful food made with love and lots of know how this is the place. We have already booked our return journey and cant wait.

We found this place completely by accident..... and what a find! We were camping at nearby Hot Water Beach and after a long day out at Cathedral Cove we were extremely tired and hungry. This little gem was nestling in lovely Cooks Beach. The staff were lovely, incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Two of us had tapas while the other two shared a pizza. The food was incredible. I will highly recommend the chunky fries and homemade aioli. Try the organic ale too. Well done Go Vino, you are a treasure and I feel the need to tell everyone that you are there. Go Vino is also a wine merchant so you can purchase your wine there and take it back to your camp/home with you! Massive thumbs up!
