Review The Hive - Cooks Beach

Ian Kingon
I just love The Hive . . . especially at sunset as the skies darken and their outdoor lights come on . . . no other word except magical really comes close to describing it. The food is good, especially their pizzas and they have an enviable list of wines, beers and soft drinks. If you are in the Coromandel, this should be on your bucket list!

I can't put my finger on one thing but this place is the bomb. Very casual but smart lovely outside settings. Everything is just right to tabke hights and spacings to music type and level to good variety of beers and wines. Matakana pilsner on tap delish in the sun. Staff and owner friendly and inviting with a little gift type store on the side. Ample parking and they even pulled off sunshine on our visit. Food could have had an adventurous vegan dish but more common on a city menu. We enjoyed the lunch stop and will be back.!

I wish I could give 6 stars...what a lovely relaxing place..get your dog's, let the kids run about in the grass..chilling Vibes... gorgeous kiwi trees laden with Kiwis.on a sunny day it's incredible. Now to the food -omg the Asian noodle salad was just divine, clean on the palate and delicious..while you are here do try the edemame which are stir fried in garlic and sumac- you won't regret it...highly recommend you to pay this place a visit

Another great meal at the Hive. We had the fried, of course, the tomato salad, fish cakes and the noodle salad with crispy squid. All was delicious. Could have been slightly more squid.

First time here since this venue has changed hands with new Chef and setup. We had a very pleasant and great experience. Food was great and covered off all our requirements which included a Vegan. The atmosphere is very welcoming and The Hive is very kid friendly, heaps of outside tables and plenty of inside seating also. It was very busy at the time we were there but the staff handled it well, we all got feed and watered. We started with the Salt and Pepper Squid followed by a Sea Dawg Pizza and loved it. The Bao buns where popular and I saw one of our party trying the Tofu dish. Everyone was happy although one dish was still frozen in the middle which was the only negative but quickly rectified. It's well worth trying out and I fully recommend The Hive.

What an awesome place! Last time I was here was about 9 years ago and man the place has changed. Always had a nice feel but they have done extensive landscaping, adding in big double doors, funky decor and the food was excellent! We had the Bianca pizza - white sauce, herbs and mozzarella, delish; Asian salad, amazing; salt and pepper Squid, cooked to perfection lovely and tender; chips and aioli were great but my fav had to be.the tomato, label, caramelized onions and crispy quinoa salad, great fresh produce, different and flavour was incredible! Cant wait to go back, thanks!

Casual but amazing road side lunch spot that unexpectedly has vineyard-like vibes under kiwi trees. And the food is solid - be sure to get the incredible pork belly sandwich!!!

Great place for a relaxing outdoor experience. The food is very good and eating outside under the vines is lovely. Lots of grass for the kids, beanbags and doggy friendly.

The pizzas are just AMAZING!! 🤤🤤🤤 soooo tasty! The place is charming, the team is friendly, good choice of food and drinks (nice craft beers!) and the prices are very fair! Absolutly worth it!
