Review Umu - Coromandel

The best sausage roll I’ve ever had! Lovely staff and yummy Allpress coffee! Definitely a spot you would want to sit all afternoon and kick back at. Recommend!

We enjoyed a delicious meal at Umu. I loved how you could order through a barcode provided at the table. I had Mussel Chowder and honestly, the best I have tasted.

Food was good, a shame we had to wait so long for food. And table service was lacking, had to wave down a waitress for more drinks and they weren't that busy. Staff were friendly and pizzas nice

Had the most outstanding meal, probably the best steak I have had yet. I commend the wait staff for their tolerance and understanding when dealing with a difficult customer that was there at the time with mental health issues they were so polite and patient. Thank you!

The food was delicious. But the coffees seemed a bit off. The service was nice enough, taking into account that they were super busy.

Very good food and excellent service. We dined on Wednesday night in Winter so was nice and quiet but the quality of food was superb. Is a struggle to choose. Good variety of seafood, red meat and vegetarian. Update 22/2/23 had fish of the day (tarakihi) panfried and cremè brulee. Still tasty meals.

We went twice for dinner and breakfast. Nice steak. Enjoyed the breakfast. A busy place so a bit of a wait.

We had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. Everything was tasty and good value. Breakfast is umu and veg style, tumeric latte (prefect balance of sweet n spicy), lunch is pork red curry hot pot and pumpkin soup. Dinner is 2 large pizza for 40 which were delicious and filling. Highly recommended for any travelers.

Party of four without a reservation, we were immediately welcomed and a recently vacated table cleared and cleaned. Prompt and friendly service and the birthday girl's dessert had candles, and several staff joined in singing Happy Birthday! An absolutely delightful mid week evening dining experience. The food was fantastic too. I highly recommend this restaurant.

13/10, 14:30: nice cafe, weird service by 1 girl. We asked at the counter if there was a drinks menu. She just pointed at the fridge behind her… we asked of those were lemonades or ice teas or if there were beers. As we couldn’t read the labels and don’t know the brands. She answered ‘yeah there are some lemonades’.. with a sigh and stared into the room at the cash register. Not really helpful. When we chose something randomly, we asked if we could have a glass of ice with it, she raised her eyebrows and said “yes, fine”. It felt rude.

What a lovely place to eat, the atmosphere here is amazing but the food is to die for. Hands down the best steak dish I’ve had, the flavours are bold and stunning. A text book perfect crème brûlée to boot. We will be back to this little slice of heaven!

Nice ambiance, food presentation and service was quite good. Very welcomed to this restaurant. I liked the pizzas and the burger. The mussel chowder was ok. Would come again if I visit Coromandel.

Good food and a busy vibe, even on a Monday night outside of the holiday season. The pork belly was delicious; crackling was crunchy, meat was perfect, just a bit too much of the apple sauce. Wife had the steak, which looked good, and mum and her partner had the seafood pizza which had heaps of seafood on it. The Good George beer was also spot on, with two size options. Fudge sundae and a Vienna coffee at the end topped off the night. Plenty of indoor, outdoor (and between) seating, a separate pizza menu, a kid's menu, kids' high chairs and a box of toys is available. For those wanting to just chill, a sign said they had free WiFi but note that you can also pick up the BNZ customer WiFi from across the road ;)

Best pizza experience ever! After a long drive to Coromandel Township, a friendly local pointed us to Umu Cafe. Everything on the menu looked delicious, but my kids chose pizza. I highly recommend the Garlic fish with prawns, olives, mozzarella, spinach, aioli, on a garlic base... I will dream about it for years to come and my boys made yum yum noises while they bit into their meatlovers pizza. I'm looking forward to eating there again soon.

Prompt, friendly service, food was delicious and well presented, prawns were just right and steak came medium rare as requested. Impressed.

The mussels were good. The pizza was good but would have been better if they made their own dough. Good spot for lunch with good service otherwise!

A lovely restaurant with great quality food and portions size.. we ordered pizzas,mussels,soft tacos and chunky fries for toddlers... amazing location in the cbd...
