I stumbled at this beautiful cafe/bistro by chance while strolling through Devonport. The people are warm and friendly, and the place is serene and tranquil. Many of the guests seemed like they came here often, which wouldn't be a surprise as it's the kind of welcoming places that you'd want to go to again. Their abundant outdoor seating is perfect on a good summer day. If you love sparrows like I do, you'd have many shy visitors around and under your table! I ordered a Margarita pizza which was served fresh, flavourful and crispy. I particularly loved the basil leaves which the staff picked right before serving! My dog received many pats from the staff as well as other guests. They also offered a bowl of fresh water to him :) I hope to be back here soon and try other things from the menu.

Had a lovely meal with family, great setting tucked away around the corner of main street. Service with a smile, very friendly, food was delicious and come out quick.

Food was good flavours but the dishes were a little small, some of the veg was under cooked and hard. Great spot with outside area. Deserts are great.

Delicious, outdoor seating, and range of options. The Moroccan chicken was refreshing and paired well with a nice beer and the lamb koftas as an appetizer.

Very nice small garden style restaurant. The food was fantastic, mostly seafood oriented, cocktails were delicious and the staff were very friendly. The outlook is nothing special, views of Mt Victoria only, but the patio does catch the afternoon sun well and the gardens are nice. Great dinner or for 3 of us.

Such an amazing restruant! Such a nice warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food is delicious! The tirimisu is the best I have tasted in Auckland (probably New Zealand actually!) and the steak was cooked perfectly! The staff are so friendly and accomodating. Thank you! We will be back!

Had two pizzas there and I could easily say was the best pizzas I've eaten in my whole life. Order two with the intention to bring home, but ke and my partner could not resist and ended up eating both. Plus the environment is very cozy, nice music, relaxing, warm, family friend and good to have a intimate date or meeting. Strongly recommend.

Food was good but it came ridiculously slowly for a quiet weekday lunch. The table was really sticky as well. Service was slow in general.

Tucked away off the main street is this quiet gem, Hemingways. It's charming interior and staff provides a cosy ambiance with optional blankets upon request to keep customers warm. Their dishes are well considered with textures and flavours; their pork meat is almost braised with slight crispy crackle and their beer battered fish has pleasantly noticeable beer flavours. It made my day when I visited Hemingways.

Fantastic market fish on cauliflower purée. Have been here twice now for dinner and it was great. Will have to try the breakfast one time. Fantastic courtyard in summer!

Went on a windy and rainy day so was very quiet and the server was very nice and attentive. We ordered the seafood platter and artisan bread which were ok, for the price wasn’t much of a portion size, and they did tell us this. However the fish and chips and burger were very large portioned and a good deal definitely.

Really really great experience in this cute garden style restaurant~ I'll definitely rate a 5 star. Foods are beautifully cooked and services are considerate. All the sauces are light but flavorous, that's exactly what I expected. Recommend the seafood medley, fabulous calamari and prawns. La Famiglia is another dish I would highly recommend, never thought pizza with bananas and avocado would this yummy, oh, soooooo yummy. Prices are reasonable, and portions are huge haha…This is the kind of restaurant that I would visit again and again~

booked a table for three using first table. staff were amazingly friendly and accommodating. we turned up early and were seated outside amongst the herbs.
we had the lamb koftas as starters. beautifully presented in a fragment mint sauce and tzatziki. the meat was beautifully cooked. we also ordered the breads and dip which had the most gorgeous balsamic reduction.
My partner had the pork belly on a cauliflower puree and celeric slaw. I opted for the eye fillet. it's often hit and miss if someone can cook a steak! mine was cooked to perfection and seasoned really well.
Ihemingways sits off the main road in devonport which can often be overlooked. all I can say is please turn down rattrey street and give Hemingways a try.

I knew that the restaurant was going to be something special as soon as I parked the car outside. It has a nice garden bistro ambience. We were welcomed by very friendly staff. For starters we had the Thai fish cakes and lamb koftas which were so delicious. The coconut, sweet chilli sauce and mint sauce that accompanied those starters respectively were finger licking good. Haha. For mains, we had the lamb rump, scotch fillet, Moroccan chicken and the fish of the day which was a beautifully cooked snapper on a yummy cauliflower puree. For dessert we ordered for the death by chocolate and creme brulee. It did not leave us disappointed. Perfect round up to the meal.
The place was quite buzzing for a Monday night too. Will definitely come back here. The cosy ambience definitely makes it perfect for a romantic night out too.
