Review Platter - Devonport

I added a poached egg to the creamy mushrooms and 100% didn't need to. Delicious plate of food, rich and generous. Good customer service too

Great place! I cannot recommend them highly enough! Such lovely staff, food is delicious, and the restaurant is clean, comfortable and has amazing views! I recently celebrated my birthday there and my friends and I had an amazing time. Their orange cake is soo good, it tastes homemade with true ingredients.. Absolutely love this place!

Beautiful setting, small but good selection of counter food. Friendly staff; prompt, efficient service.

Beautiful location with a cute al fresco outdoor area out back. Food was brought out in a good time despite the restaurant being quite busy and the staff were pleasant and sociable which made for a nice lunch. The food itself was well portioned, cleverly laid out and very tasty. I had the roast vege salad which was delicious.

This very friendly place was a pleasure to go to. The view over the harbour was amazing. We had the chicken livers with mushrooms, if you like chicken livers this is a must. This restaurant is great place to meet up with friends. Thanks Guys absolutely loved it.

This place is amazing. Beautiful views of the water, food to die for and great service. Topped off by a cup of tea with real tea leaves and just beautiful. Seafood chowder out of this world, Apple Crumble like Mum used to make, Chicken Caesar Salad beautiful. Nice ambiance and a great way to spend lunchtime.

I've heard the savoury food is fabulous, but I've only ever been there for coffee with the occasional sweet side. Great service and the cappuccino is perfect. As for the position, well there are few spots better in Auckland!

Great little breakfast, brunch and lunch cafe with very scenic outdoor tables. Comprehensive menu and excellent coffee (plus an impressive winelist!).

Fast service and fast coffee. Food turned up in good time too (didn't want to say fast food as it may give the wrong impression). Coffee and food both taste good. Had the big breakfast swapping mushrooms for baked beans which they were happy to do.

When I was paying and you asked if everything was ok my mind must have been far away. Everything was great! Eggs Benedict perfectly cooked and all food nice and tasty. We all enjoyed our time in Platter thank you

Great coffe food and service. Platter is our daily local takeaway coffee go to. Also great with our 4 children and dog if we are staying for a meal. I would highly recommend giving this place a try in you are in Devonport.

Always great food and coffee and other adult beverages. Great service too. Our 1st choice to go to when in Devonport!!!!

The coffee was too weak. The achma was good but the blueberry muffin tasted as though it was made with a packet.

Food: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Overall: 4/5

Loved their seafood chowder! The chowder was full of flavours and lots of small mussels and vegetables. The soup was really thick so it was good for bread dipping also. The Turkish bread was so soft and yum that I wanted more! The seafood skewer was quite small but it went well with the chowder. Good location of the restaurant as there was a nice view by the water:)

I had a seafood platter that was $60 and shared it with my brother, the portion size was like half what it was a year before. Both of us were still hungry after and ended up having Mc Donald’s. Won’t be going back there.

I went to Platter recently with my girlfriend and have to say it was incredibly disappointing. The place was very quiet so we asked for a table near the window so we could enjoy the great view. Unfortunately all of the tables were reserved. This is understandable so I asked if we could sit at the far end of a long table as it was next to the window. The waitress asked the owner to which he VERY rudely said "No, you are only two people, why would you sit at a table of twelve!" A simple 'sorry we may be expecting a large group soon' would have been fine. We ended up getting seated in the back courtyard which was so infested with flys we had to move back inside to a table next to the restrooms. In the whole time we were there none of the reserved tables were used nor was the long table. My gripe with this situation is how we were treated. No effort was made to accommodate us or make us feel welcome.

As for the meal. We ordered eggs benedict and an iced chocolate. The iced chocolate was embarrassing! Literally $7.50 for nesquik! The eggs benedict was ok however the egg white was watery and it came on toast, not an english muffin as it said on the menu. A small thing I know but it should come as described. Certainly not worth $18.50!

At this point I have to say we are not difficult customers at all. We are both young and have worked in customer service jobs so we know what it can be like. Also, I have been to Platter a couple of times before for dinner and it has been fine. Maybe it has been taken over by new owners or something? Either way, we will not be going back soon.

Went to Platters yesterday with a group of friends for brunch and as usual had a great time. I had the seafood chowder and it was pretty fine. My friends salads and eggs. Have to admit I had plate envy for Bacon and Scallop Salad. Next time.... All super fresh! Coffee great, views amazing and for once Auckland's pesky onshore wind was absent so we sat out front watching the big ships coming on and out. Love the friendly staff. This is an extended family affair and the commitment shows. Don't believe everything you read from professional complainers (BTW Have you read ALL the last guy's reviews? He must get a kick out of being the most dissatisfied eater on the Planet. I've been to many of the restaurants he disses so savagely and wonder if he's been to the same places I've been to.) Platters is a good quality local cafe/restaurant; It doesn't aim for haute cuisine but what it does it does really well.

A group of us went for dinner last Friday. My mother got FOOD POISONING from the seafood chowder. She didn't like the look of it at the time but who expects to get food poisoning from a restaurant in Devonport? She has informed Platter of the food poisoning but they made no offer of recompense.
Two others in our group had the fish and chips and they were not impressed saying the fish was not fresh. Two others who had seafood pasta were reasonably satisfied. On a positive note, the setting is good and the service was good. We have been to Platter several times but we will never go back.

Ten of us went to celebrate my mother's 75th birthday on a busy December day for lunch. Drinks and food were prompt and staff very friendly. Scallop and bacon salad recommended and everyone enjoyed their choice. We all left very impressed and content.

Lovely location. Easy to find carpark outside. Not as packed as further up the road so if you want a cafe that ticks those boxes come here.
I felt the only downside was actually the speed of the service. Wait staff attentive enough but I prefer my coffee well before my meal not just before it.
As we came for breakfast, I found the menu offered the usual. Portions huge.
I chose the scrambled eggs. Might add they were delicious. Cooked to perfection.
How good was that!? Good food. Good service. Good view. Good value. We had the Spanish deluxe and Mushroom & chorizo. Flavors were exploding and celebrating in our graceful mouths. Devonport also turned on the best sunny day. Cannot have any better brunch. Great experience.

This place has a great venue right on the waterfront in Devonport overlooking Auckland city. It's never too packed as the restaurant is quite big. A good variety with breakfast and lunch menu and the food is generally pretty good. I've only had one instance where I've been disappointed which was with a chicken salad as pictured (it's not on the menu stated here) and like i said it was a one-off since I've had plenty of delicious salads here before which I have also added in the photos. Platter also offers a military discount which I think is a nice touch.

Great food every time we have been. Three seating options, out front overlooking the water, inside and the back courtyard, sheltered and sunny for lunch. Really friendly helpful staff.

The corn fritters were inedible SO much
Flour with consistency of doorstops very
disappointing Left feeling hungry and went elsewhere for lunch

We ordered the seafood chowder and the vegetarian fettuccine and both dishes were very nice. The service was prompt and friendly and the views of the harbour are great.
Carla
Pretty great location with loads of seating. Nice selection of breakfast and lunch food, we were there for brunch. Prices seemed pretty fair and great tasty food. Beef burger had that yummy homemade feel about it, could maybe have done with a nice chutney or sauce on it, but still yummy.
Cassandra Knight
Ordinary ordinary, unsmiling staff, very ordinary food - you would be better taking a picnic to the beach - don't waste your money on this place
Valerie Miller-Crawford
The chicken fettuccine was delicious. I would highly recommend. The only thing that would have made it better was if it had been served with some garlic bread.
Tash Rawlinson
Good cafe with great view of the harbour. The inside is a bit echoey so if it's a nice day outside is idea. Food is good and coffee is probably a 4/5

We have just celebrated a 60th birthday at Platter. The restaurant catered for 35 guests. The evening has been described as perfect by some friends. We served a variety of platters that catered for everyone's tastes. The food was great, the atmosphere was wonderful as was the service. Matt was as a great help putting the evening together, giving me ideas and guidelines and he and his team were on hand making sure it was seamless.
We have eaten as a family at the restaurant many times and have enjoyed their breakfasts and dinners.
Thanks Matt & and the team for a memorable evening with our friends.

Enjoyed delicious Salmon & Avocado quiches, followed by Gluten-free Orange & Almond cake & coffee for a late afternoon tea on Boxing Day while taking in the beautiful day and gorgeous scenery. Great service from the girls too. Will be back for a birthday lunch tomorrow. Thank you.

Had the seafood fettucine and it was delicious! Was really satisfied with the fresh seafood provided. It was cooked well :) highly recommend if you want to enjoy brunch with friends with beachfront views

Had the worst experience here!! We waited over an hour to get cold mushrooms, raw egg French toast, hard poached eggs and terrible service. Will never eat here again
John Hill
Unfortunately, I can't comment on the food as we never got there. After 35 minutes of waiting and still not even the coffee order arriving we decided to leave. We even went to counter after attention in 15 minutes thinking maybe we needed to order there and were told to sit down and our order would be taken, which to be fair it was. The food we saw served to others did look good though, but service like this is just not good enough. Perhaps we were unlucky.
Never mind.

Went to Platter on Saturday night for a family 21st (6 of us). Fantastic friendly service from our waitress / waiter and manager. Flavorsome food, the platters are huge and food was served quickly . Staff even sung Happy Birthday with us and put candles on the dessert. Great night. We have also been for breakfast and snacks many times. Definitely great value for money in a great location with staff that show they enjoy their job and are genuine in their service to customers.

We have been to Platter several times before and still find the food, atmosphere and service impeccable! Breakfast was served quickly and efficiently, and tasted superb! The coffee is great too! The view from a window table is one of the best in the world - very hard to compete with this for value and performance!

It was the first visit to Platter for our entire group. We loved that our reserved table was right by the window to make the most of their beautiful view on a lovely sunny day. Everyone was really impressed with the friendly staff and efficient service as well as generous servings of delicious food. The coffee was very good, if only I'd had room for dessert! It was also greatly appreciated that we could pay individually as we left - the gentleman managing this on the till was very organised and calm as we all worked out our share. Thank you Platter - I know all my party were looking forward to returning again one day.

Yes, Platter Cafe in Devonport delivered a great breakfast with very good quality coffee, perfect eggs, tomatoes, spinach and halloumi on ciabatta for only $16.

Friendly service and beautiful scenery onto the sea.

This was our first time here and we are looking forward to the next visit.

Love Platter. We go there once a fortnight for brunch and always get great service. Never need to book a table.

We usually bring our puppy and sit out in the courtyard out back. The staff are always friendly towards her and bring water out.

I usually have the corn fritter stack which is amazing (bacon not fatty) and my partner has the spanish deluxe.

I would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

Had brunch there on Sunday with my gfs.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere, decor, warmth etc, and I have to say the wait staff were excellent, very very cool service - so thank you Platter for that.

In terms of food, I was a tad disapointed with the corn fritter stack I ordered, the bacon was barely cooked and fatty and the corn used in the fritters was very tough, so possibly old, or freezer burned ??? - the avocado was over half bruised as well which was a huge let down.
Luckily, my friends meals were good, a little slim on the bread with the Mezze platter, and we needed to order more to go with the huge amount of dips/etc on the plate. Scallop salad was small, but the seasfood was lovely and fresh, pity about the lack of salad to go with it, and the seafood chowder won dish of the day with us. Very impressed with that.

Overall we would go back, it was a lovely morning and clearly a popular haunt with lots of different people dining there. I thought the prices were bang on, and the meals we saw come out of the kitchen were all well presented and the place has a great vibe. I would go back if I was in the area to give them another try.

Cheers.
