Review Chateaubriant - Devonport

Ju W
One of my favourite cafes in Auckland. Hidden away from the bustling area of Devenport, I took a ferry over from the CBD. A lovely walk through the neighborhood to reach here. Greeted by very friendly staff members whom treated us really well (even received complimentary snacks at the end). My recommendation is the Les Sandwiches - all the flavours are so good! Coffee is also amazing - I often end up having two cups of coffee here as it is so well made. Lovely French atmosphere and good seating area both indoors and outdoors. I highly recommend this cafe to all!

Great coffee and food, with excellent service. Good vegetarian and vegan selections including granola with coconut panacotta and a delicious vegan bowl. Also: French pastries!

The food served here is lovely however my hot chocolate left quite a bit to be desired unfortunately. Great atmosphere if you don't mind a little noise.

Real bread, the best pastries and great coffee. Under new management and looking fresher snd better than ever. Still the same quality food, your old favorites as we as some new treats. Be prepared though. It is also super busy, but everything under control so wait is short! 😄 Still going strong. Always some new treats to tempt you.

An un pretentious and delightfully authentic French Cafe. The service is always very pleasant and the owner is a lovely bloke who is proud to present his family recipes and regionally local dishes. The beef-cheek burger and the Forest gallette are standout favourites

Great little bakery with fresh ingredients and organic coffee. I Recommend the baguettes and almond croissant!

Absolutely delicious food! yummy eggs, scrumptious pastries, almond croissants and crepes all made in-house. I would eat here every day if I lived nearby….and get very fat 🤣

Great little French cafe near Cheltenham Beach

I would give a 5 star, though the iced hot chocolate we ordered last time had no ice cream in it and ironically it isn't meant to have ice in it. Although apart from that, this place does unreal Tuna spread, the savory and pastries are unreal as well. If you know what a good french stick tastes like then this place is where to go! Service is always outstanding. Place is always packed and people are always happy here.

Chateaubriant is a little pocketful of the delights of France: authentic quiche, breads, pastries, etc, delicious coffee, and the ambience you'd expect. A sweet moment in any day.

Usually pop in for takeaway pasties and coffee and enjoy on the beach. On rainy days it's nice and cozy inside. Top notch.

Very busy so hard to find a table, probably a good sign! Good coffee and delicious galette, gluten free options. Easy to find a park on the street.
Bought a almond cros, it was alright nothing spectacular. The coffee is sub par too. Has a good vibe to it inside. The customer service was delightful and nice

French cafe
This French cafe/patisserie is a great little spot for lunch with a selection of sandwiches/baguettes, pastries or cooked menu items to choose from. We tried a couple of the baguettes and some Madeleines and they were delicious. The coffee was pretty good too!

Customer service is alll that matters when you enter a cafe right? Like it's a prerequisite if you're in the hospitality business but i guess the guys here clearly missed that point. The cafe looked beautiful but i guess the owner/manager wasn't so polite after all!
Stopped in for lunch while exploring Devonport and what a delight we discovered. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the food choices were really authentic French dishes and the range of cheeses on offer was quite diverse.
We lunched on a couple of deliciously crunchy baguettes (tuna and vegetarian) and chocolate crepes with a mocha and a cafe au lait to follow. The baguettes were absolutely divine :-) Since we discover that place we are coming every week. This is THE BEST CAFE in the NorthShore, strongly recommended !!

Wowww I just tried a galette... Incredible ! So yummy !! One of the Best Café in Auckland and for sure the best in the Northshore. Atmosphere, coffees, treats, everything is just perfect..

This place is always busy on a Saturday. I tried their almond croissants - perhaps I'm a bit fussy now, having had Lune in Melbourne... these ones did not blow me away. The coffee was good - local Chiasso beans.

Amazing food, you pay for what you get and that is excellence. Love this place. Even their sandwiches which appear to be very simple are packed with flavour and are enjoyable to every bite. Moved away from the area but still come back every now and then just to go here for the food.

The owner arranged the most amazing lunch for my sister today. Beautifully presented and delivered to her for her birthday. All arranged from across the Tasman. Now that is service above and beyond. Delicious French food. Salad and terrine, Beef bourguignon, mashed potato grain mustard, French cheeses, chocolate tart with raspberry financier. Chateaubriant was my best find in Devonport when I visited for the first time last year.

One probably shouldn't rate their local too highly for fear of becoming clogged with tourists. Châteaubriant deserves a toast to their convivial French ambiance. The creamy tarts and crusty baguette's are fabulous and no doubt you'll meet a new friend.

Called in here today Friday 18 Nov after the worst experience at Subway Devonport, just for a quick bite as was late in afternoon after watching the Navy band @ the museum down the road. Very authentic french cafe, very cluttered - was going to have a ham & cheese baguette until I saw the price ($9) so opted for a plain baguette ($3.50) & cappuccino ($4). Wow the nicest baguette I've had - was hot so ate it all straight away -yummy. And the coffee was delis too.

Great coffee, Cute french decor! Lovely baguettes with chicken, avocado and you can add artichoke hummus. They even do waffles. Best almond crossiant too! Greetings always in French and thank you in French too. They do hot chickens too. Not open Mondays.

Went on a weekend with friends and it's busy but worth the wait! Sweet treats and croissants are totally authentic! Coffee great but could be stronger for a French cafe... Cheese and deli cabinet are also insane! Come here if you are visiting a party or going to a friends for brunch.. You will be a hero!

best quiche I've tasted in a long time! great atmosphere and selection of french pastries. the coffee service was a bit slow but I'll forgive them based on the excellent quiche and coffee.

Cute little cafe nestled in the Vauxhall shops, 4 minute drive from central Devonport! Lovely staff, delicious food and good coffee with is evident from the cues out the door. The baristas gets constant compliments from customers on the quality of their coffee, some saying it's the best they have ever had. You can definitely tell the staff are like family here!

Love the food but this is the sort of place where great food has created a demand exceeding supply. They are showing signs of the letting the service slip on the basis the food and coffee will compensate. Get there early though.

In a purely residential area lies this quaint little French café that has a strong following from the locals. Unlike other cafe’s, they don’t have a menu. There are a bunch of pre-prepared items to help yourself to and pay at the counter. Yum quiche & eclair.

As a Kiwi who lives between NZ/France (for 40 years) I found this charming cafe serves authentic French food, has a real French atmosphere and friendly staff.
I appreciated being able to order small portions, the food and coffee was great.

Went here last week and had the most divine mousse. Finally a REAL french cafe. Hot chocolate was good, friendly staff. Will defiantly be back again to try coffee, bread and dips.

What can I say! The wife and I stumbled across this hidden gem on a day trip to Devonport and we are so glad we did. The food and service was superb considering how busy it was, and now I understand why. I had the classic baguette and my wife the rooster smoked chicken, both delicious and good value. Coffee was great and the waitress friendly. The atmosphere transports you back to France. We do hope to return.
Merci chateaubriant!

I am French and I love going there for a coffee and a croissant now and then and go to Cheltenham beach. But that stops there. The food on the side such as the cheese or other French food is out of reach. Being vegetarian I got a baguette sandwich one day and was very disappointed as there was only two oily spread/hummus, some pumpkin seeds and about three mesclun leaves! I paid that $7.50! Not even a slice of tomato or cucumber! I'd rather buy the baguette in the future and make my own.

Fantastic rotiserrie chicken - so moist! And a wonderful range of pastries, but the piece de resistance is the SMOKED chicken liver pate with port... incredible.
We are very lucky to have this piece of France in our village - it's like a magic interior, packed with choice French tastes and smells and even sounds. Merci bien!
Alex
Friendly service, delicious pastries and yummy coffee! A perfect place to stop on the way to the beach. I'll definitely be back :)
