Such a gem in Devonport! Amazing Vietnamese Cuisine!!! Best Fresh Spring Rolls I’ve had in Auckland, best Vietnamese food. Pork Belly Stew is so tender and melts on my tongue, I will highly recommend this place for Vietnamese Food!!!

We are enjoyed lunch here. They have good service even though there is only one front staff. The menu and decoration are typical of the Northern of Vietnam. I'm not a fan of Frenchfries, but I did like the French fries here with the dipping sauce. Wow! lovely. Parking: No Restroom: No

Phenomenal & bright flavors! Truly wonderful experience dining at Cafe Hung Viet. All dishes were so fresh, full of vege and perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend! I was so happy there was some vegan/vegetarian options as that is rare for Vietnamese cuisine. Fantastic service as well 👏

To the amazing owners - I have a special thanks to give to you at the end of my review 🥰 Great atmosphere and there were outdoor heaters that made it nice and cozy. The light from the heaters also gave an amazing glow to the food, I should have taken more photos myself but just look at yum the dessert looks in the golden haze! My partner and I ordered oysters, and the crispy shrimp pancakes. I had trouble eating it before I realised you are supposed to let the pancakes soak up some of the dressing and it gets much easier to break up into bite sized pieces so that was my bad 😅 The oysters were very delicious and the salad topped it off quite well. Salad can often be a cheap thing on the side and a lot of places will just have cheap coleslaws although I feel great care was taken with the simple salad that came with our oysters. Uniquely flavoursome, it complimented the oysters well. Be careful of the chilli’s - I’m not sure what I thought was going to happen but my mouth BURNT - They were definitely VERY potent chillis 😂😭 The creme brûlée had a very crispy top! For all my foodie photographers - It would make a satisfying ‘break’ video! It looked small but it was filling and they even used real fruit ice cream - I could taste the strawberries and I think the white swirl throughout the ice cream was meringue flavoured 🥰 They definitely chose the ice cream with great care to compliment the slight bitterness of the burnt crispy top. Do not be alarmed by my use of the word bitter - It is still amazing, the sweetness of the ice cream and fresh strawberry evens everything out, and the creamy part of the crème brûlée is smooth and creamy of course, it’s not overly sweet. To the owners especially the woman I presume to be the wife - A HUGE thank you for a memorable night. We had been turned down twice before this because my partner didn’t have his ID, even though we specified we didn’t have to get alcohol. Your hospitality really warmed our hearts and made our nights better 100%. I apologise for not saying more about the amazing quality of the food in person, I was honestly too in the moment of processing how to answer 😂 The flavours were definitely flavouring! And also - I have never been but would LOVE to go to Vietnam! Thank you a million. You really don’t know how much you made our night last night ❤️ I also feel like our second drinks had more alcohol than the first drinks we got and I’m not sure if I’m just imagining it but it still made us feel special so even if you didn’t add extra, we still say thank you 😂🫶🏼

We had lunch there today. We have travelled to Vietnam twice and the food today took us straight back there. It was beautiful. The service was great too. We had a nice chat with one of the staff about Vietnam. Highly recommend this place - if we lived in Auckland we would be back all the time.

Ordered takeaway... $27 for three very small sizes of stake and a very disappointing first experience. Boa buns smelt/tasted like a bodily fluid.... #speechless

Authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Devonport. The waitress was very informative and polite. Not to mention food was so amazing. I’ll definitely visit again.

We were introduced to this place a month ago by friends who were dining there at the time as we were walking past. We really enjoyed the fresh herbs in the dishes and fried spring rolls and felt the servings were generous and fresh. We have gone back a few times since and found it to be consistently good. Definitely will be back again.

My partner and I came here for dinner after seeing a movie at The Vic. It was reasonably quiet but it’s a popular takeaway spot for locals. We had the fried tofu which was lovely and came with a tasty salad, the bun cha which was delicious (how do they always nail the charcoal taste in the pork?!) and the grilled squid. The squid wasn’t to our taste but I don’t think that’s a failure of the dish, just a preference thing (it might have had dill or tarragon in it). The cocktails are definitely worth missing but I would be back.

A favourite place at Devonport; quiet no pretence environment, authentic Vietnamese food cooking with fresh New Zealand grown herbs and free-range meat. <br/><br/>I have had the privilege of late afternoon lunches a few times here, and it is consistently great value. Worthy of a visit!

This place takes you straight back to Hanoi! We were over at Decenpor to see the harbour brige lights and stumbled across this cute little place.<br/><br/>As soon as I saw Bun Cha on menu I know I have to order it. Ever since our visit to Hanoi, we have been searching so hard to find a decent Vietnamese restaurant who also does Bun Cha. Unfortunately most Vietnamese places in Auckland are nothing but disappointment. <br/><br/>We waited in excitement and as soon as the Bun Cha being served, we know this is the One! The beautiful smell of grilled meat soaked in delicious brotha with pickles, that Smell is just so heavenly. A plate full of fresh greens and mint with vermicelli is so refreshing. Yes compared to Hanoi, it is a lot more expensive, a lot smaller serving and a lot less saldas and herbs but we a thousands miles away and this Bun Cha has definitely satistied my crave for authentic Hanoi food.<br/><br/>My husband ordered the Pho Bo. The fragrance broth was unbelievable. Once again, the serving size was on the small side, but it's more than enough for one.<br/><br/>The girls worked there are super friendly. Their Vietnamese hospitality stle also brought back good memories to us. <br/><br/>I will highly recommend Hung Viet to anyone who are seeking for solid authentic Hanoi food.

@RyanNguyen @TuanTrinh great place to have lunch, great service and friendly staff. Food is authentic with traditional garnishes. Highly recommend for Vietnamese but the portion is quite small for Kiwi.

The best food in Devonport!Fresh meals, perfect portion-size and flavours hard to beat!Friendly and attentive service.Email them for their level 3 menu.Steamed buns are pillow-like and scrumptious, we enjoyed every mouthful of the lemongrass chicken with noodles.

Five of us dined at Cafe Hung Viet tonight and it was the best Vietnamese food I have tasted in Auckland. The dishes were full of flavour but with a freshness and lightness of touch. The Shaking Beef was a stand out dish as were the delicate lacey pan fried spring rolls. Even the side salads were delicious. They are licensed and serve good espresso coffee.  The decor is simple, refined and clean and the wait staff are professional, friendly and efficient.  We were too full to try their deserts but are already planning our next visit.

This place is Legit! I only ordered takeaway but the beef pho exceeded expectations. Nicely divided up into three containers with a lovely clear and elegantly fragrant broth, more rice noodles than I needed with freshly sliced lemongrass, spring onion, mint coriander and the other essentials plus most notably the beef was freshly sliced and raw as it should be. Also had some lovely panfried rice paper (spring) rolls which I have been struggling to find at this quality in Auckland for some time. I'll be back to dine in and try the rest of the menu for sure.

Vietnamese is my favourite 'cheap eats' meal when I'm out and about, I'll have it about once per week and have tried a goodly number of the Vietnamese restaurants and cafes in Auckland. On driving into Devonport for the first time in a long while, I spotted Hung Viet and thought 'oh goody, a new one!'<br/><br/>Verdict : top notch. Their Pho Bo is without a doubt the best in Auckland. Yes, it's a little smaller than Hansan / Try It Out / John Woo's portions, but the broth is more intensely flavoured and jam packed full of fresh herbs, so I didn't miss the bulk. The noodles were a thick translucent glass noodle and very tasty. <br/><br/>My wife had the Banh Mi and indicated it was very good with lots of pork and a nice freshly baked crispy bun. <br/><br/>Definitely recommended - service was swift and friendly with excellent English, and the locale is small but clean and welcoming. Only reason I didn't give a straight 5 is that the pricing is notably more than some other locations, but having been said that, I think the pricing is fair and the food excellent. <br/><br/>Two thumbs up!

So my in laws decided we would check out this place because they wanted to try some AUTHENTIC Vietnamese dinning. However being Vietnamese my self I was able to tell you that it was more fusion than anything. The portions were small and pricy. Among 5 people we had to order almost double the mains because of the portion size. This joint is usually quiet most days but moderately busy on the weekends. The style of cooking is influence by northern Vietnam, so the flavours are more intense. Would not recommend if you are into the more Chinese style version of vietnamese cuisine eg HANSAN. Overall the food was of slightly above average but expensive. But considering the location the price tag is expected.

The strip up Victoria Road opposite the cinema is busy with cafés and restaurants so Cafe Hung Viet has a tough market. However it is functional rather than a stand  out. The deserts are a let down and the service a bit variable.nothing bad just not a stand out.

Had a great meal here! Staff were very good, explained the menu to us and gave us some honest recommendations. Snapper Sashimi was awesome, as was the spicy beef salad. Pretty cheap too! Give it a try!

We really like this place, love Vietnamese food and were very happy to see this place open in Devonport. Try the Chicken lemon grass skewers, yum. Crispy spring rolls are a litmus test for Vietnamese restaurants, they are great here. The Pho is a bit too small however tasty. Have been there a number of times and recommend it to anyone.
