Review Torpedo Bay Cafe - Devonport

Provides outdoor and indoor tables right beaide the sea. Quiet place to relax ans have a cup of coffee or a weekend breakfast. They have different kinds of dessert. I liked their new york cheesecake as well as their matcha latte. Prices are also reasonable. Beside it is the navy museum, if you wish to visit it.

Quick service, delicious food (we had panini, fish and chips, crepes), friendly staff. We've been there a few times and enjoyed the food and service each time. Lovely views and nice little playground outside. We had decaf and almond milk flat whites, both were yummy.

Quiet place, good food, nice staff, good place to go to with kids as they have place for kids to play, as well as the navy museum in the same building

Lovely place to eat and would come again. Brilliant staff, lively and friendly customer base which lifts the atmosphere. Thank you for your service and food. We loved meeting the local pup who waits patiently in the morning <3

Tucked away along the waterfront 15min walk from Devonport. Great cafe with good options for breakfast and lunch. Good coffee and cakes. Kapiti ice cream. Tasty food options. Lovely friendly staff. Recommend. Next to the Naval museum. Also worth a visit.

Right next to the beach and the museum, good for a stop in to have some good Brekki or lunch, maybe stop at the beach, or check out the very cool naval museum, next door.

A very cute little place to grab breakfast or lunch. They have a fairly good variety, but very few vegetarian options. Outside dining is beautiful!

Very Friendly and helpful staff great food and drinks. Coupled with the museum visit made this a worthwhile walk from the ferry dock. Definitely worth a visit.

This cafe at the Navy Museum has lovely views (even on a particularly stormy day!) across the bay to Auckland city. I ordered the Creamy mushrooms and my husband, the Crepes. The service was very quick and the food was delicious. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back.

Good staff and great location.... enjoyable food and coffee the only reason it's not a 5 star was we had to ask for the table to be clean.... we will be back

After getting a jump from the sleeping person on the top of the bunk and being amused by colorful medals in red drawers at Navy Museum, we had a rest at the cafe right next to it.

It was about 2:45pm. A few customers were there but only 1 staff was working keeping himself busy.

Cabinet food we tried here:

New York Cheese Cake - the size is not generous, the cheese flavor is lacking.

Chocolate Mud Cake - again the size is not generous, its hard to eat neatly because the cake is easy to crumble with a folk but once put in the mouth, melting yummy😋

Each cake cost $5.50.

Double ice-cream in a cup which was$6.50 - we love the strawberry & cream flavour😍, liked it better than plum one. But want the serving size more generous, please!! 🤑

We were able to have a quiet and peaceful tea time with a sea view + the city center far away.

Such a beautiful location this place has so much potential.
The menu is extremely limited and overpriced. The food is of average quality and so is the coffee. Wait times are long even when they're not busy.
Perhaps with some revamp of the decor and menu, and some motivated staff, this place could do really well

Beautiful Seaview spot for breakfast and brunch. The coffee was made perfectly ( I ordered the FW with extra shot in it ) and breakfast was tasty. Highly recommended, will definitely come back.

Went here the other day with my mother for brunch. It was a nice open plan cafe, large play area outside for children and the Navy museum is right next door.

We went up and ordered at the counter. The person behind it was friendly and helpful with requests that we made.

My mum and I both had a coffee each and the mushrooms on toast expect mine was on spinach instead.

The coffee was disgusting, burnt and not pleasant at all. However the food was amazing! Nice thick creamy sauce, plenty of mushrooms and crispy bacon!

I would come back for the food but would get a cold drink instead next time!

Lunch today, arrived at 12:15 to be told kitchen was backed up and food would be 30 minutes. Decided to order a couple of pies from the cabinet instead as we didn't have time. Waiting nearly an hour to get the pies as a result of "oven malfunction". So ultimately pies were heated in microwave and came out soggy.

No attempt to fix things, just the usual solly, solly, solly.

Found out ownership has changed.

Explains a lot.

Won't be back.

This is a regular haunt of mine, for lots of reasons.
1. Outdoors playground, perfect for the kids
2.Navy Museam next door is free
3. The coffee is not bad, its not amazing, but the other points make up for it
4. Its right next to the beach.
It really is one of the best coffee shops to ho to if you have kids and its sunny.

Edit. 01/01/2017

We have not been for a good six months, and I can only assume the owners have changed

The main staff on the counter were slow, very slow, did not understand english (not good when your main job is taking orders)

We ordered two mochas these came out about 5 minutes apart, which is not good.
Mochas were way to chocolatey and had no coffee taste.

We grabbed two icecreams, they had totally melted by the time we got to pay, there were 3 people in the queue in front....was painful
The cafe was not even that busy, we were not impressed. Real shame too this was our go to place.

The coffee here is very good.
The barista there knows what he is doing and I can see that he has experience.
The latte art he is doing is just the another amazing thing.
Great staff and fun.
Bit slow for food when busy, but they are good.

Recently found this cafe, and thoroughly enjoyed the location and the food. The setting is magnificent, the food delicious, and the staff where friendly and professional. We look forward to taking our international visitors there.

We went again last Sunday for lunch, and again we were all very impressed with the meals: Cajun chicken open sandwich, a big breakfast and mushrooms on toast. The service was friendly & excellent, the meals came on time and together. And what a great view!

Our family went for brunch at Torpedo Bay cafe on Sunday, we had such great experience. We met the new owner , he is very pleasant guy and very friendly. The staff were also great !They were very busy, however, they got us a table with nice harbour view. The coffee we ordered were amazingly good. The food we ordered were delicious. On their menu, they got so many yummy choices. They also serve Kapiti ice creams, we were very impressed the big portion they served. Highly recommended cafe in Devonport. We will be back soon to try other yummy food.

This cafe is in a great location with uninterrupted harbour views. The coffee is good and I have eaten there twice and found the food to be above average. There is room for improvement, however the view is stunning. I like to pop in here after a walk around North Head and it means I don't have to fight the crowds in at Devonport village.

We were there for lunch today. My 93 yr old mother was "shouting" me for my birthday and her grand daughter (25) was with us. I ordered a Caesar salad and granddaughter ordered a chicken caesar salad. 93 yr old's piece of quiche arrived promptly as well as coffee and cake also ordered by us all but the salads took a good half an hour to arrive even after asking what had happened to them. When they arrived they were practically inedible. The lettuce was a "spring mix" out of a package not a cos lettuce - there was 1 anchovy in mine and about 3 little croutons. The grandaughter's chicken caesar was the same and she ate about 3 mouthfuls. She said the chicken was overcooked and the sauce over it all was very fishy. We were all looking forward to a lovely lunch at a beautiful spot but we did all expect to eat at the same time. Maybe we chose the wrong food but surely a caesar salad at $15.00 is the same any where in the world? Waiting staff should also know that it is bad manners to clear the table when someone is still eating. Just a lack of training obviously. Very disappointing and we won't be rushing back.

The location of the cafe is fabulous but it's a long way from Devonport village. If you like everything brand new this cafe will suit you but for me it has no character at all . There is insufficient shade from the sun at its outside tables - a few more umbrellas (they have one) would be useful. The coffee is ok but when I went they do not make lattes in bowls. The iced coffee at $6.50 is outrageously expensive. The food is average. the worse thing about this cafe, however, is the service - they seem only to employ young inexperienced girls, who seem in no hurry whatsover; we waited 30 minutes for our coffee. I would not go there again.

I visited Torpedo Bay cafe on Tuesday morning. The setting is amazing with views of the city and a nice sea breeze. It really feels like you can get away for an hour or two. The food was up to standard. Ant very tasty. No corners were cut, One thing I always find in most cafes. The services was great no fuss, happy fun girls. This made for a great atmosphere. Thanks.

If your a local or visiting Devonport this cafe is one of the best places you can go. It's got an untnterupted view of our stunning harbour, you don't have to put up with sitting on the side of an uneven foot path and the girl's who work there are amazing!
