Review Java House Cafe - Devonport

Lovely little cafe tucked away in an arcade. It's very easy to miss this place, but you should really try it. Had the bacon pizza and an order of onion rings today. The food was just delightful and the place is nice and comfortable, away from the busy streets . Definitely a must-try in Devonport.

An absolutely amazing cafe, very lovely staff and owner must I mention too, after only going in there a few times, they already knew what I wanted to order the next time I came in, they are very welcoming and friendly. Also there is a great and relaxing environment up stairs with great natural lighting glazing through the windows, feels very home like, and the out door area is amazing, really early 19 century looking with a modern touch!

Tucked away down an arcade, Java House Cafe is easy to miss. That would be a shame because it's one of those places that you keep returning to for its great coffee, comfortable seating and a decent selection of food.

Tucked out of the way down an arcade, stunning little atrium beautiful natural lighting. Owners turned on gas heaters immediately at our request. No surcharge on a public holiday!

Decently priced but standard food.  Not a bad choice for food, but not the best.  On the plus side, the wait staff were brilliant and very accommodating.

Cute hideaway with amazing wedges.<br/><br/>We ordered wedges and fries with aioli, both $6 each at Java House Cafe. When our food came I was disappointed by the tiny portions for $6 and we got given ketchup instead of aioli. (They obviously ran out of aioli, just like how the onion rings we originally wanted ran out too.)<br/><br/>The fries were average; stick thin, plain but not super oily. Definitely not worth $6 for the small portion and mediocre taste.<br/><br/>The wedges were a standout though; golden brown, crispy, hot, and you could taste potato! Perhaps $6 is reasonable here, although I still wish portion sizes were bigger.<br/><br/>Not sure how much the cups of coffee cost, but they were the smallest cups I've ever seen and most likely much too expensive for the cups served to customers around us.<br/><br/>Can't say much for service because I didn't order, but the lady didn't say anything to us when she gave us our food.<br/><br/>Recommendations: wedges.

It was a small quiet place. My friends and I enjoyed the pizza and the old feel to it. We have not tried the other food and beverage but we will come back to taste them.

Hidden in a small shopping mall. Not sure why it's so quiet. Service was friendly, so-and-so, average, okay. 1 thing I was impressed with was he (the server) took the initiation to show me the size of the coffee cup for my Mocha.<br/><br/>Our experience just now at lunchtime is the food was a total let down. No seasoning at all for both dishes. Luke warm. The only thing that we were impressed about is the price. Much cheaper than some other café. My impression is they are sacrificing quality with the price.<br/><br/>Will we come back again? Yes, but for a quiet drink only.

Bad bad bad. From the service, to the 30min wait, to the food, to the broken high chair. The eggs benedict came with one egg over-cooked, one under-cooked with wilting spinach and drowned in sauce. The iced chocolate was mixed in water with 4 ice cubes floating in it, no ice at any stage went into the making of it. The burger was ok but the lettuce under the meat was cooked and slimy. The wadges were cold. The high chair was broken with no way to lock the top in so 21 month old spent our long wait trying to escape the chair because he could. Very frustrating. The coffee was good but really I could have bought that at a gas station and saved myself $42.50 and the service would have been great

Friendly service, interesting range of cakes and the like. I asked the owner/chef if anything was dairy-free, and he was able to go through all the baked  items in the cabinet, listing the ingredients of each. The almond/ orange cake was not only gluten free but dairy free- hooray!- and it tasted great. When I complimented him on this fresh tasting, zesty cake, the nicest of its kind I have had, he said that this was because the citrus in it came from his back yard, a truly home grown, organic component of this slice of sweetness to have with the nice coffee.  When in Devonport again, we will visit again for sure.

Have been coming here every so often since I moved to Devonport, really lovely stuff and owner, they make the best ice coffee I've ever had to date, and the place is very homely. It's really cute and cozy up the stairs, really nice if you are looking for somewhere to get some peace and wind down a bit, has a neat out door area too of course with the early 1900's cottage look, defiantly don't find myself going for a coffee in devo anywhere else anytime soon!

A quite homey place indeed. My burger tasted good, but some parts were uncooked. It didn't bother me though. Very polite waiters. Nice ambience. Fair prices. Homemade food. Will definitely go there again.

Stopped by to grab a coffee and try the dumplings. Impressed by both. The latte bowl was perfect and exactly what I was looking for. The dumplings were great (and I've lived in China for 3 years).

This super cute cafe is nestled amongst the hustle and bustle of Devonport. I came here with a friend today for lunch and found this place. The service is really friendly and attentive. The food however really needs work, I had the pork and cabbage dumplings which were very oily. My friend had the passionfruit cheesecake which he questioned whether or not it actually contained passionfruit. The coffee however is great so if you want a quite place to have a coffee go here!

Good portions but all elements Of our breakfasts, except the eggs, were clearly shop bought and just microwaved/toasted to heat through. Coffee was good. Staff are very friendly and helpful and no surcharge on a public holiday which is always good. Unsure if we would visit again.

I go here sometimes to get coffee usually because everywhere else is closed and it's close to work. Sometimes I get a medium size, sometimes a small size, more expensive than anywhere else in Devonport at $4.30 for a SMALL flat white. After getting 10 stamps recently I asked for a medium and was met with complete rudeness, accused of only buying smalls and then trying to get a medium on my stamp card, which A. wasn't true, and B. shouldn't be a problem to them if I have a full stamp card. Whilst the man was giving me a hard time over this, his wife muttered 'Not fair'. I asked her to repeat herself, she gestured for me to get out of the way. Also the food here is often stale and little care is put into it. Avoid.
