Review Zucchini Bros - Dunedin

Great location near central city, awesome set up inside with multiple spaces to dine in. Beautiful pizza, though a bit pricier than expected which kept me from giving it 5 stars. I haven't tried their pasta but it looked delicious on the plates that went to other tables. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Definitely worth a visit.

This place was amazing! Great service great pizza! Best pasta I have had in a long time. Ok for kid's they will change menu to suit your needs. However the other type of people who are in here may not like them unless they sit still.

I ordered take-out as I was staying around the corner at the Scenic Hotel Southern Cross. When I went to pick up the pizza I was very impressed with the beautful warm and inviting restaurant design and decor and I wished I was sitting down there to eat my food. The pizza was ready at the time they specified. I had one of the gourmet pizzas - chicken, caramelised onion, blue cheese, mozzarella and rosemary. It was divine! The rest of their food looked amazing. Will gave to go back there when I'm next in Dunedin.

BEAUTIFUL building, great rustic design mixed with modern features- this creates a nice moody atmosphere. The tiered levels is also a unique and memorable touch. Food was delicious and prompt- I ordered a regular sized number 11 pizza and it was a great and filling portion size. $22 normally, which is a bargain, but mine was $26 as I'm gluten free. The pizza was very tasty, cooked in a real pizza oven, and super hot- just perfect. My boyfriend and I loved it! Would definitely recommend!

We had a caramelized onion and rosemary bread starter. We ordered 4 meals, all pasta. They were all very tasty, I think one was prawns in a lemon sauce, there was a pumpkin/chicken with tomato sauce, a ravioli and a carbonara. The staff were very attentive and friendly.

Asked the waiter what he recommended, we did the artichoke gourmet pizza. It was the best I've had! The service was great and the profiteroles were even better!

Came for the amazing cabonara dish and had to take another dish as takeaway! So cosy!

Very well done food and amazing service. Especially one named Art who prepared the pizza for my family. Exquisite.

Really enjoyed the pizzas here. These are probably the best pizzas we have had in a long time. The staff here are very friendly and welcoming and its was very nice and warm and cozy inside. The mojito was delicious, heaps of fresh lime juice and mint and very refreshing. I had the feta salami and olive pizza. The base was a nice thickness and very crispy. And there wasn't too much topping, just enough of everything to make it like a real Italian pizza which I like. Would love to come here again. The pizzas are just the right size

Pros:I am from Taiwan-an Asian country and I've never been a big fan of cheese-related or creamy cuisine but this restaurant has totally impressed me with their hopelessly delicious carbonara! Best carbonara ever !!! An incredible restaurant.

Cons: cook smoke is bit too much inside the restaurant.
We came here without a booking on a busy Saturday night. The staff had a table for us and were very welcoming and friendly. The beer selection is vast with some great selections. We ordered a couple of pizzas to share and they were great my favourite was the pulled pork special pizza very yummy.

Saturday night dinner at Zucchini Brothers for three of us. We decided to concentrate on the specials and what a good decision that turned out to be. We started with the mozzarella from Nelson salad. Not as good as the Clevedon Buffalo mozzarella but still very good. That was followed by the prawns, asparagus and lemon spaghetti which was sublime and we will be back to try that dish again! Another advantage of Zucchini Brothers is that you can take your own wine so we raided the wine cellar and a 2001 Sesti Brunello and a 2004 Barolo. Only down side with the restaurant is that it can get quite noisy and the artworks boring.

The aroma of Italiana greets you as you walk through the door, closely followed by the greeting by the staff. Website suggested you book, and that's a great idea. Even on a Tuesday night, it got busy quite quickly.
Nice and warm, great service and excellent, honest food.
We had one of their 20-odd pizzas on offer and it was great. A large size easily feeds 2 ( unless you are awfully hungry).
Visitor, student or local, great place to.eat.

This place serves fresh pasta. It feels like homemade pasta to me. My favorite dish is their Carbonara with bacon. The taste is not like authentic Italian but it is tasty. The atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely. The staffs are friendly too.

The decor of this place is so lovely, warm and inviting! Lots of wood, fire and candles. It's a very aesthetically pleasing restaurant, albeit it a bit dark- but thats just my own preferences.

Came in as a group last night for a birthday dinner. We had 4 different large pizzas. We had 2 number 20s, 5, 1, and 19.

Number 20 is always a safe option, cranberry and chicken is a good convo, just didnt much care for the sploches of cream cheese which was very concentrated in one area rather than spread around. Number 1 was the hawaiian, fool proof choice, I didnt try it but I'm sure it was more than adequate. The best pizza was the 5 definitely! Not for someone who cant handle spice. It was perfectly good heat for us with chili flakes and jalapeneos, and was something I'd never tried before somewhere else.

In general the pizzas are on the smaller side, especially for the price. We paid $27.50 for a large size and they still looked quite regular, slightly bigger than a dominos or pizza hut pizza. They were served nicely though on wooden boards.

Overall a nice place, with good attentive service. Our water jugs were replaced very quickly. The service isn't overly nice, but they do their job well which is all i really expect. Service time can be a bit slow, but my visit was during a packed saturday night, so was reasonable.

Vintage and warm
Atmosphere and interior, friendly staff and great pizza and pasta. Went a couple of times with large groups, staff handled the group well. Pizzas really filling, seems small in size but always surprisingly full. Abit pricey end however good value for money , atmosphere and flavour make it all understandable. If I had to choose a favourite it would be a toss up between the ravioli and pumpkin penne. Both super good !!!

Love the new building, the same great food and service, thanks!

Pizzas were really nice, the bases were delicious would of liked a bit more topping. Service was really good too. Would definitely go again.

although the atmosphere is fun and inspiring, the food, the prices, and the food portions were not. I was very disappointed with only getting 7 raviolis. I left feeling hungry and ate when I got home. Very disappointed and will not go back.

Great food and service!

Rating is purely for service as the food was excellent and timely.

Everything went really well until the end of the evening, we were the last table in the restaurant and were advised (about 9.50pm on a Saturday night) that they were wanting to close soon, most of us had only around half a glass left of our drinks although 2 friends had almost a full glass left so we continued on finishing our drinks and just after 10 the barman must have decided he was ready to go home as he came and cleared the glasses we were still drinking from. I think this is appalling service, I understand a last orders policy and I do appreciate wanting to get home after a long shift however we were a maximum of 10mins from finishing our drinks and to take away the drink someone had paid for before it's finished is terrible service and ruined an otherwise great dining experience.

Would return with smaller group/couple for dinner but would go elsewhere if with a larger group wanting to have a meal and a few drinks.

First time we have ever tried Zucchini Bros and I'm delighted to say it was fantastic. At first when the pasta came out I was a little worried about the portion size, turns out i couldn't finish it anyway. Friendly staff, amazing food and superb atmosphere. I may have just found my new fave in Dunedin.
They also have a nice selection of drinks from around NZ and its nice not to be stuck with the generic brands you always see in most restaurants. The price was also brilliant at 80 odd dollars all up including desserts.
Would defiantly recommend Zucchini Bros for meal out.

Would give it 6/5

We went to pay a visit to Zucchini Bros in their new premises. We've been customers for a long time in their Roslyn location.
Just as terrific as ever, friendly staff, great service - delicious food. We ordered Pizza, salad and garlic bread - it never disappoints :)

We have been eating here for almost 20 yrs in house and takeaway. The new venue in the city is fantastic, so much more spacious than Roslyn was. Food great portion sizes perfect attentive waiting staff. We did go early though when no one was rushed off their feet, we had a four yr old in our party who was treated very well except! Despite being assured the spaghetti we ordered for him would be child portion, it was not. So, the plan in future will be a plate of spaghetti which we will be prepared to share along with other dishes so that the child gets to taste different things. I do think child portions should be available though as so many children get taken here. Otherwise lovely food good quality and great venue. We will be back a little wiser with a child in tow

Zucchini Bros is an all-time favourite. We go back there over and over again. The first thing I always get is their rosemary bread which is crisp, perfect, flavoursome. After that it's difficult to choose. The pizzas are great but so are the pastas. What we usually do is share a pizza and a pasta and have a Greek salad to share as well. What we like is the consistently good food with a fine balance of flavours and the friendly service.

The food was really tasty and the service was good however the ravioli serving was very small, so not great value for money. I would have expected a slightly bigger portion for a $20 main. It's interesting that others have commented on the small pasta portion sizes.

We decided to get take away for the family, so we ordered two large pizzas a carbonara and creamy Parmesan ravioli, we felt that this order should have been enough to share with four adults, we walked home with our pasta in a paper bag and pizzas in arm.
We now know why the pasta was in a paper bag, it was so we wouldn't realise how we had been ripped off until we got home.
$17.90 for an entree sized portion of ravioli that even a child would have been disgruntled over is not what we consider value for money.
So back down to Zucchini Bros we marched to ask for $17.90 worth of tortellini or our money back, convinced that there must have been some kind of mistake!
But to our surprise this was no mistake, not only was it not a mistake but she has had this complaint many times before apparently many people have complained about the portion size of the so called "Main" meal.
Not only did the woman disagree that it is unacceptable but tried to convince us that this is the best and the finest quality.
My response to her was "so this carbonara is not to the equal quality of the ravioli?" as we have about 5x the amount of carbonara to ravioli.
The woman's response was "but this is ravioli" as to say it was some mystical exotic food, It was clear to us that nothing we said was going to make her see sense so we took our money back and she insisted we keep the ravioli in a hope that we would see "sense".

As for the pizzas they weren't awful but pretty average for $28 and I personally have made better carbonara.
And for the ravioli made with the "finest ingredients" two of us wouldn't even eat it as they did not like it and I found it to be of a pretty average standard for what you would expect for ravioli.

Never going back again and I am utterly shocked that people keep paying outrages prices for this average Italian food.

We got our pizza, pasta and desserts delivered to our hotel room. The food was lovely.

My complaint with this place is that I specifically asked pizza prices on the phone and was told $22, and when I checked my docket later, they had charged me $26.50 for the pizza, plus the garlic bread we paid for was not in the package. I tried phoning straight away and left a message about this, but never received any contact back.

Disappointing customer service.

Paid $20 for 7 little pieces of ravioli you could probably fit all on a cocktail stick, didn't feel like complaining as we were with lots of friends. Other pasta mains ordered at our table also quite small but not as bad as this. To overlook this is just terrible.

Service: 4/10, they couldn't be bothered with anyone, didn't ask how meals were.

Will never return, nor recommend to anyone.

We have dined at this restaurant a few times, and the food is consistently good. The service is not bad either. My only other comment is that the spacing of the seating in the restaurant is tight and moving between the tables can sometimes be a trial.

Amazing, food, amazing service, amazing staff. I would highly recommend this place. Other reviews are rubbish, pizzas looked good sized with ample toppings and my kids love that they could get a ham, pineapple and spaghetti one plus although there's no kids menu they were happy to make special kids sundaes. Pasta was ample size, not too big, not too small and tasted amazing.

if this was the US or Italy i´d give it 3, but considering that there´s very little italian food in Dunedin, i give it a 4. pasta and pasta sauces were excellent. pizza was too bland tasting for me, and bread was a bit too white-bread tasting for me. i´m still craving that real italian peasano bread!

pasta serving is a wee small, if you´re hungry, order a pizza to go along.

atmosphere was fine. place is clean and cozy.

peace and pizza.
Regular Diner
This cafe is the best place in Dunedin to dine for Pasta and Pizza, the food is always superb and the staff are always friendly and helpful. We eat here often as we know it is always going to be great. Please don't ever close down.!!!

The other reviews are rubbish. Zucchini Bros is excellent. If you want a thicker base then go buy a supermarket pizza. Zucchini Bros pizza's are unbelievable! Tasty, tasty, tasty. Can't recommend their cheese pizza enough. And the cranberry chicken. DELICIOUS!

Generally fine. One dish was swimming in oil and when this was politely pointed out there was a very abrupt response.
Gareth
I wasn't impressed with the pizzas, they were so flat, like a leaning tower pizza from new world, for a $19.50 pizza I would expect a thicker less greasy base and topping that didn't look like it was just spread on like icing. My friends pasta didn't seem great either. There's other "Italian" in Dunedin.

Brilliant ambience, great food, gorgeous waitrons - recommend the beef gnocchi and the leek and potato soup ..... Rockburn pinot noir, what else could you ask for?? Not a place if you want a long drawn out evening..... Roslyn's best kept secret ;-)
