Review Nectar Espresso Bar & Cafe - Dunedin

Pretty good food and coffee. Most people stop by for a coffee so it is only sometimes busy for a few minutes. Ordered the big breakfast and poached eggs, and bullet coffees which no where else in Dunedin seems to do. Coffee was nice and rich like a warm creamy smoothie. Great use of space spread over two floors with lots of natural light in the upstairs and courtyard area. Would come back!

We had lunch here. Potatoes and tea. Potatoes were quite nice and big meal with reasonable price. Tea also good and there were many kind of tea. We enjoyed this cafe. 😊😊

Stopped by here while waiting on an appointment. Only had a chai latte but there was nothing wrong with it. The service was good and staff were friendly. It wasn’t very busy at the time and I only had to wait a few minutes for my coffee. I can’t comment on the food but definitely worth visiting if passing by.

Awesome coffee. Like seriously good. Coupled with a delightful breakfast menu. Staff are warm and friendly. Totally recommend this joint if you are in need of a quick caffeine fix.

Had some great hot chocolate here as well as some baked goods. Great modern vibe, would definitely return. I've driven past Nectar on several occasions always thinking it's closed, the dark tinted windows doesn't allow for the public to see any activity or lights on the inside, maybe a bright open sign/ lights will hellp with this. If I knew how great this spot was earlier this wouldn't have been my first visit.

Always a great selection of food from both the menu and display. Coffee is the best in Dunedin and the beer selection is great. The staff are always friendly and courteous and the atmosphere and decor brings a nice level of sophistication which I think is perfect for a business lunch or just a casual lunch with friends. Well worth going the extra few steps down Princes Street.

I'm not a coffee drinker, so can't comment there. I had breakfast and had the hotcakes, food was out lightning quick and was really tasty. I also had a banana and mango smoothie, it was good but ever slightly too plain, a bit more flavour and it would earn a 5 * review.

Nectar does great coffee but the other half of this business which Google maps doesn't seem to find is Zuchini Brothers next door which is even better. Great pizza and pasta and excellent gluten free versions of both, especially the gourmet versions

Lovely place and atmosphere I found my eggs Benedict to be very small. E.g. I small peice of ciabatta for two eggs and bacon. I'm not a fan of dried spinach/ lettuce on the plate. I would ask to have two pieces of ciabatta otherwise to small.the pancakes looked decent. I would recommend and will visit again.

Delicious coffee and savoury scones. Great atmosphere and friendly staff

Plenty of gluten free options, lots of different coffee and tea possibilities. The prices were a little bit high for what you get though.

Quality service food and coffee. Not quite the same level of treat under new management, but still pretty damned good

Been here four times over the last four years. Good thing is the coffee is great and the food is consistent. Had great pancakes with banana and bacon. Delish!

Being from Wellington I judge every place I have breakfast critically but I was pleasantly surprised at how great this place is.

The food is great and I was happy to see that gluten free bread is not charged for! Good call Nectar!

The coffee is Nectar. Bold, deep flavour that was a great start to the day.

The vibe reminded me of some of my fav places back home which was nice. Well laid out, great art on the walls and really relaxing.

Service was good and the food came out quick. I would have preferred my spinach wilted but that is a preference thing and nit-picking.

Used a Grab One voucher here for a weekend brunch, this place has The most amazing pancakes and bacon! Oh My God delicious! And the service is friendly. Definitely would chose this place again

I've dined at nectar twice; once with a friend who worked in a company in the same building, and a second time for a business meeting. The building it is located in is absolutely gorgeous (it's hard to believe its a 15 minute walk from the crumbly buildings of north d), and with it's relaxed casual vibe and contemporary decor, nectar certainly doesn't look out of place to the architectural and design firms it shares the building with. In terms of food, it is what you would expect from an upscale cafe: smallish portions, on the pricey side, but very well executed without being pretentious. Great spot for a business lunch.

Went there for a small business meeting, had the the lamb stew with toasted focaccia, it took a while to come out but it was very busy (lunch time), I had a coffee, Black and explained I'm a bit specific about the quality and mentioned where I buy and don't buy from and was assured a good coffee if not the best coffee would be made for me (in a friendly manner) and it was most enjoyable as was my Lamb stew, I'll be back

I've been here before and had a great lunch so was looking forward to having breakfast there. What a let down! The big breakfast might be considered "big" where hobbits come from, and despite watching waiters bring water to other tables when we asked for some we were told there was a tap downstairs (translation: get your own). Our waiter also only bought one knife and fork for two people. Although the lunch is really nice, the service is poor and unfriendly.

I know having the Rugby in town makes things busier than normal, but waiting 35 mins for a coffee and 3 hot chocolates isn't good enough. We were warned of the delay, but was told 15 mins. Then, when I asked after 30 mins where our drinks were, I was brushed off with "we said we were busy".

Once it finally arrived, the coffee was average and the hot chocolates were weak in comparison to previous visits. Overall, a big disappointment and I won't be back sorry. Everyday Gourmet will get my vote from now on.

My new favourite Dunedin cafe! Love the small blackboard menu, I am slowly working my way through trying everything on it! The lamb stew with toasted focaccia is amazing, the mushroom breakfast is to die for, & I am addicted to Nectar lemon crepes!!!!!!

Popped in here for lunch on Saturday with family and was extremely disappointed. My husband had the bagel and it was burnt, so much so that his sharp knife would hardly cut it. My mother had the eggs benedict on ciabatta, again the bread was too well toasted. I had the mushrooms on ciabatta and the bread was so dry and toasted that it scratched the roof of my mouth.

The young woman at the counter was friendly, but the food let the place down. I certainly wont be going back.

My first visit to this cafe, I ordered a late breakfast and a coffee. With prompt and friendly service, I really could relax in the warm and comfortable surroundings. My coffee was excellent, and my Bacon and Eggs the best I've had in town. I will definitly be back!
