Review The Craic - Dunedin

Had eggs bennny, the hollandaise sauce was cold which made the eggs cold. Told waitress and she got chef to remake with sauce on the side. It came out with nice hot eggs so happy customer cheers. We're 6 on our table and everyone else meals looked nice.

Loved this place! A genuine Irish pub feel - no cheesy Irish jokes on the wall. Good atmosphere, fire in the corner, live music from time to time, good range of beverages, great food and gentle friendly staff. Would move in if I could!

Loved the foods. We went there im the morning so ordered some coffees but they weren't that good. But I absolutely loved their food!

I've been in Dublin a few years ago, but I've never tasted any food better than this place in the Irish capital. Better Irish dishes than their homeland! This says it all.

Great pub. Loved the seafood chowder with crusty bread and a guiness. Great atmosphere.

Dropped in for a cuppa while on a day trip from the grand Princess made to feel very welcome πŸ˜Šβ˜• returned for the fish and chips with blue cod was delicious, chips also the best I have had in a long time, so well done. Warm and cosy on a chilly day, staff very friendly and welcoming. Drop in when visiting the area.

Stopped for drinks whilst walking around yhe town on a freezing afternoon. The pub was small but warm and had good typical Irish decor exuding a great atmosphere. Drinks were well priced and included whisky and gin specials

Had a delicious meal and then woke up the next morning to find they'd accidentally added a zero when charging us 😬😬😬 luckily the manager Claire was incredibly helpful and after trying several different options she was able to give us a refund for the overage and gave us a round of drinks for the trouble! Overall a great experience when it could have been incredibly frustrating, 10/10 would eat here again!

Central CBD location in the Octagon. Seated tables, leaners, and couches. Live music on some evenings. Good selection of bar snacks and meals.

On a cold day, while I was on a work trip in Dunedin, I was walking and enjoying the city during the last few hours before my flight; decided to eat a late lunch. When I was walking I saw The Craig Irish Tavern and walked in… I had a very lovely experience: -Food was very yummy and fresh -Waiting time was very short -The atmosphere was fantastic (I picked a nice and cozy seat by the fireplace) -staff were very friendly, helpful and nice Next time I travel to Dunedin, I’ll definitely come back here! HOGHLY RECOMMENDED:)

Seafood chowder was delicious! Big chunks of salmon, extremely tasty.
Huge serving of nachos, came out hot and steamy.
Not the first time here, and would huge selection of craft beers. Staff are extremely knowledge in this aspect
Very busy afternoon that we popped in, so ended up waiting longer than expected. Upon leaving the staff apologised for the long waiting time which was sweet of them. The staff put in a lot of effort with the service. Would always return!
Highly recommend the seafood chowder!

Taste: 5/5

Portion: 5/5

Location: 5/5

Price: 4/5

Service: 5/5

I absolutely love coming here for a delicious seafood chowder, don't think any other place is comparable. The fish and chips were great and weren't dry at all. Will definitely go here again!

This worries me. I have a seafood allergy...I asked the server to check with the kitchen if there is anything they would recommend. She came back with "the kitchen is not comfortable serving you anything, because we have seafood in the kitchen". I GM a restaurant back home and this is not acceptable...not because they're turning away business, not because I'm offended they didn't serve me but because they're blatantly telling me that they do not have cross contamination procedures! It makes me wonder if they have policies in place to wash their hands before making a salad after handling raw meat (of any kind) let alone allergen contamination. If you have allergies BEWARE AND STAY AWAY. The server was very very pleasant about the situation and the location was great in the octogen area....but...if you get sick a day or 2 after eating here.....remember this post. ....just say'in. :)

Great little place in the heart of the city. Found it to be warm and cozy with great staff. The barman was friendly and more than willing to chat.
It was a cold rainy day when I went so the warm atmosphere with fires was well appreciated. The food was good although I am yet to have a full meal here.

Went for dinner on mothers day, food was pretty good and the atmosphere and service were great! Both the male waiters were friendly and polite. Was the first time either of us had eaten there but we'll definitely be going back.

The food is good, the service is good. The price is reasonable for the type of food you are getting when compared to similar places around the city.
Meals are usually serviced in 5 -10 minutes.

They also have options for Gluten free as well which is not as common as one would think and a big plus.

Went here for dinner. I was quite excited by the comments I had seen below about this place, but for the open chicken sandwich and chunky chips got less excited by the visit I had. Chips just the normal. But sadly , I wasn't very impressed with the chicken. For $20, I expected more than a cold chicken sandwich I received. ( served cold apparently). For dinner time I wanted it hot- so they took it back and it still came back warm. So definitely not worth the price if they can't at least listen to their customers.. Staff were nice, helpful .Atmosphere of the place pretty good too. But, I don't think I'l be going back in a hurry..

Went here for lunch with a friend and had a few beers!! The meal and beer was amazing , not a thing wrong with that but as for the service!!! We walked in and had to wait for the bar girl to stop talking, we then got givin food menus and went and sat down (outside) about 10 minutes latter the girl once again once she had finished talking to staff , then came out and took our order, all while clicking her pen!! It made us feel as if she wanted us to hurry or to bugger off!!! She was very helpful with helping us choose beer but as for the pen clicking VERY OFF PUTTING!!

Came here the other night and thoroughly enjoyed myself! Helpful and friendly staff plus a warm, relaxed atmosphere started the night off well. My partner ordered the venison pastry pie and loved it, while I had the Craic burger, gluten-free. Clued up staff knew to swap the default beer battered chips with shoestring, which I was happy about. The burger itself was so good! Great place, I really cannot fault it at all. Have recommended to my family already, and we will be going back at some point without a doubt.

Mussells were very well cooked but very small so would have expected more for the price. Tomato juice tasted like flavoured water so when I paid the bill I asked what sort it was- said that it was watery and was told 'maybe I didn't shake it enough'- for $7 a glass I think that a decent shake before pouring is a no-brainer. won't be hurrying back anytime soon.

This was our first dining experience in Dunedin, and we were very satisfied.

Dunedin restaurants lack culture and personality. I think Craic has it right. I ordered Braised Hare. It was so tender, it melted in my mouth. My husband had Bangers n Mash, and was equally pleased with his order. This was also the place that offered our first (of many) taste of Magners cider.

It's a small bar. But cosy, unique with excellent food. We will definitely be back for more.

My partner took me out here for my birthday dinner on Saturday night, he ordered the steak sandwich and I had the mussel pot as a main. The steak sandwich was huge, but unfortunately the mussel "pot" which was actually a bowl of mussels left me hungry, we asked if they accidentally sent out the entree size, we were told that an entree would only have consisted of 5-6 mussels. I've ordered mussel pots at other restaurants and they have been quite substantial 20-25 mussels, the craic serving size are substantially smaller (lucky if it were a dozen) - very odd considering the huge size of other meals. Went elsewhere for desert.
What?
Had dinner at the Craic tonight. This is probably the fifth time I have eaten here now, and have never been disappointed. The food is very tasty, the servings very generous, the atmosphere is nice (though far removed from "fine dining")and all at very acceptable prices. Great selection of beers and a good wine list as well.
I'll be back...

I came here for lunch and really enjoyed the relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.

I had the pasta which was absolutely perfect! The staff were very friendly which I very much appreciated (it's hard to come by these days)
I will definetly be back and recommend this place to other, thank you!
