Great place with delicious honest food. We stayed 3 nights in Dunedin and 2 of them we ate at Minami.

Just went here tonight to try something new , had teryaki chicken main to takeaway . For $13 was so perfect for my dinner , all food was fresh presented so nicely and taste amazing . Service was faultless and the restaurant itself was very tidy and organised . Will be returning for sure ! Loved it !

Went there twice for their lunch specials. They've got five meals at 10$. Tested their curry-rice and it was delicious and filling

Little japanese izakaya style place with a good variety of things on the menu, without beeing too extensive. Went there with a group of friends who were very familiar with the place so I was guided in through the menu. The food wasn't the most amazing japanese I had but it did the trick and was fresh. Service was pretty standard. The decor is very nice though and you get a true feeling of japan when you enter.

The place itself was small and cute and we were greeted with a hello and was asked to pick any seat. It took us a while to figure out what we wanted to eat because the menu was kind of limited. The waitress and waiter kept coming to our table, but my friend and I are very indecisive. After 15 minutes we were finally ready and I think the owner came to take our order. At first we thought he would need a pen and paper but he just looked at us so we stated what we wanted. He realized that we said a lot of dishes and so he went to get a notepad and pen. He should have done that in the first place. We told him what we wanted and he said that it was too much and told us to order less. This is seriously the first time someone told us to "change" our order and "consider" to order less. We had 2 appetizers, some sushi and 2 katsu. After he said that, he left. I was so confused. Why does he have a say in how much my friend and I want to eat. So in the end I called him over and told him to put our orders through. His costumer service was not great at all. We are from America and love to eat. I don't see why he had to tell us to reconsider our meal. Please keep your thoughts to yourself and have a better attitude. The food itself wasn't that great either. The salmon was cut too thin and the rice was too much. The sushi rolls were not wrapped tightly and they all had carrots in them. The carrots made the sushi taste weird. Overall, I've had better sushi and this place would be my first and last time.

Yummy! when craving sushi we always go here, never disappointed. Take home and relax after a day of crap at work, always good to chill and eat lots of different sushi.

By the far the best true Japanese restaurant in Dunedin. Lovely setting, friendly service. Great agedashi tofu, tempura and plum wine. Great with a family. Amazing, real-deal wasabi & sauces. Definitely put it on your list for Dunedin!

Very poor service. Ordered the $27 set menu. Food came out as and when ready. Miso soup cam out first then the rice and had to wait ages for the remaining dishes. Miso and rice got cold as we waited. waitress basically threw the dishes onto the table. Waitress did not inform us that they did not have some of the ingredients and proceeded to replace expected dished with non expected dishes. Set menu is not value for money. Definitely do not recommend this place. Food is pretty average - very oily and too much sugar, food is an understatement to the pictures. Does not seem very authentic.

Have been going here for years and have literally tried all the other Japanese restaurants in town but keep coming back here! Everything is so fresh and AMAZING value for money. Service is always friendly

Minami has the best Japanese food in Dunedin no doubt. They have a huge selection of sushi and also many hot dishes. My favourite is chicken kara age which is lightly battered chicken deep fried and is then served with a mayo/tomato sauce dip. The chicken just melts in your mouth. The salmon sushi is made fresh on the spot and the salmon tastes just as it should.

Prob the best sushi in Dunedin. Rest of food is solid if not spectacular.

Very poor service - we had to wait at least an hour for the food to arrive, we had to ask for soy sauce and we had to remind the staff we still had some dishes to be served (we ordered a combination meal at the beginning of the menu). We booked in advance via telephone and a staff member took down my name and number (I even had to spell my name) and confirmed the time but they had no record of our booking when we arrived so they seated us at a table right next to the kitchen and toilet and told us we would be moved to a better table later on, however this did not happen. We felt as if we were constantly forgotten about (and there were hardly any other customers in the restaurant) and the food was of poor quality (it most certainly did NOT resemble the pictures in the menu) and was presented in grubby-looking dishes. I would certainly NOT recommend anyone dine here - it ruined our anniversary night!

Minami is great for good tasting healthy food, quickly and at a great price. I'm a regular.
