Review The Still Room - Eastbourne

Best pub I've ever been in. Best food I've ever had especially the dumplings. Awesome place for a drink and a meal. First place I've ever felt compelled to write a review

Epic feed and great range of beers on tap! Didn't have a booking but bar staff were kept to accommodate us on a busy Saturday night with large groups of people having booked tables. Thanks guys! 😊🍻

Cool little hideaway nestled in Eastbourne, with a variety of food and drink options (including shared plates - highly recommended), attentive staff, and a range of seating options. Warm and friendly, would gladly return!

Such a nice spot! Our server was super lovely, knew all the tap beers off the top of her head. The mussels and fries hit the spot perfectly, so tasty! Gin cocktail 5/5. Definitely recommend eating here!

Such yummy food! Ordered 4 dishes from the sharing menu for the table of 5 and it filled us up for lunch. It was great. Good friendly service too. Would go again. The design of the place is really nice and not intrusive on the eye yet still things to look at when looking around the place that will catch your eye.

Good atmosphere, relaxed and social looks like a few regular locals. Plenty of parking on the street out the front. Selection of food for most appetites. Not to congested inside plenty of seating up front or out the back. Staff are pleasant and welling to help answer any questions on menu items. Initially went there as part of Wellington On A Plate that was positive so I'm a repeat customer.

Very well run local pub who look after everyone who visits. Food range is great and staff are friendly and attentive. A good range of craft beers on tap that are changed regularly as well as plenty of bottled choices to suit all tastes. Highly recommended.

Strongly local Eastbourne hotel supporting local suppliers. Good selection of craft and imported beers plus excellent house wine choices. Not an extensive menu but the meat pies were full and tasty and those that had the fish were also very pleased. Ideally go early and score an inside table on cold nights.

Love this place! They have an attention to customers food requirement that's not seen in most restaurants. One of the best meals out in a long time. Small menu - yet still spoilt for choice! 👍

A strong supporter of New Zealand with a selection of 6 local beers on tap. This little bar/restaurant is very popular with the locals and the food certainty is part of the deal. We went for the veggie Tacos and calamari salad and we were both very pleased with the well presented dishes.

This place is now called IP MAN and serves Asian food.

Nice spot. Great range of craft beers for a suburban gastropub. As my companion said when we were there "I think they trade more on the ambience than the food" and I'm inclined to agree given the food we ordered. Ribs were pretty stingy TBH, but the chunky cut chips were excellent. Soft shell tacos were ok. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Cosy little place, and I think Eastbourne is the better for having them there. Overall recommended if you're in the area.

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. We got the welly on a plate vegan burger and parsnip fries as well as the recommended beer and a bowl of fries. Was delish and the best bowl of fries I've had.

Actually the food's got better along with the craft beer. I recommend the TRAX fries! Staff are friendly and as you can see from the photo we can sit outside with our dog! Who also enjoys the food!

Been here a few times and it's never let me down. Very good food. The Salmon dish is very tasty. They also do a good cuppa too.

Very child friendly little pub. Great deal on Mondays, kids eat free. Nice area out the back for families with children. Welcoming friendly service and good food selection. Thanks a lot.

Has now changed hands and become the Still Room. Unfortunately the yummy food has gone downhill. Their burgers were fantastic but the food is now terrible. The service is still good and quick. The menu is small. I ordered a pizza (ground beef) and within 5 minutes it was there! Suspiciously it was luke warm and looked like it had been prepared earlier, popped into the fridge and heated. I sent it back and asked for it to be reheated, which they did. It came back burnt and tasted slightly better. The chicken salads also seemed very pre prepared. The alcohol selection was OK. Overall very disappointing for the only pub in Eastbourne.

We went there a few months back for lunch, had the best burgers, they buns they had used were Awesome, so we went back, traveled a fair distance and what a change, so disappointing, the buns were stale and Yuk, we did mention this when we were paying, to be told there order of buns had not been delivered, so they were buying them across @ the supermarket, real shame, just not the same. Wouldn't bother to go back again
Hi
We went there for tea tonite I ordered the salmon for main but was given pork belly the young lady said this is what I ordered I said no I didn't couldn't be bothered arguing so ate it thought service was poor had to ask for water most places give it to you on arrival
Also we ordered the salmon for entree but was told there was none

Firstly the service is always great, the staff are why I come back. I always feel welcome. But it's the people that make a pub a great pub so compliments must also go out to this awesome little community. The food is always good pub grub as it should be. It would be nice to see a couple more craft beers on offer as it fits the 'local' brief. Plenty of local brews in Wellington so let's support them aye? Parrotdog clippedwing is a great one for the drivers.

We go to dinner here quite often since its just down the road. I used to really love it here. The menu was well priced and absolutely delicious. However, recently they have changed their menu and it really leaves much to be desired. My partner and I dined here tonight. He ordered the pork belly and I got the salmon with polenta (not pictured) although the pork belly dish was actually quite tasty (albeit very small for $22 at a pub) the salmon dish was not great. The polenta they used was either shallow or deep fried, which made it extremely greasy to taste, and it lacked any flavour. This greasiess with salmon which is an oily fish, just made the entire dish just taste so greasy and a little sickening. It really was quite disappointing when thinking about the menus former glory. We especially miss the chicken burger and open steak sandwich- they were absolute embodiment of perfection when it comes to pub/restaurant food. Hopefully it makes a reappearance soon.

My wife and I are locals. We used to go at least once a week and usually with friends and family. I have promised that I will never return. Why? My wife and I went to take advantage of the 2 for one pizza on Tuesday; we took our 7 months old baby (who was not feeling well) and decided to take the pizzas home until the stuff told us that we were not allow as the promotion was to dine-in. We looked at them very surprised asking why??! their answered was that they would make more money if we dine-in as we would be ordering drinks. We confirmed that even if we stay we would not order drinks as we just wanted to have the pizzas, so It would not make any difference to them but it would to us, as our son was not feeling well. The manager, who know us very well (as we used to go very often) said:- sorry guys, but I ca not let you go with the pizzas. End of story: I said: - We are locals and we spend our money here every week. Tell the owner that he not only lost a customer but also more than a few as I will not come back here with my wife neither with friends and family. To resume: This is what hospitality and customer service mean for this business: "nothing" We are locals and we are already telling people in Eastbourne our bad experience.

Really enjoyed the nice menu and Thursday steak night. Great steak and pizza and on the right night (wed, thurs) really affordable too. Become a bit of a regular haunt for our band of mates.

Brew'd has a nice location central Eastbourne. They have a lovely outdoor area which we sat in however it was full of flies which wasn't very nice whilst we were eating. We had a platter to share. Overall the platter was lovely especially the beef brisket however the platter stated that it also included crumbed prawns but we did not receive any. I don't mind if people substitute things if they have run out but the fact we weren't advised of anything and just given the platter with no apologies or explanation was not great service. I would return for snacks but I probably wouldn't go out of my way for a second visit. Probably just better for a drink.

We were in Eastbourne and tried Brew'd for dinner - it was our first visit.

There are some nice options on the menu. They have a few craft beers on tap or in the bottle. Panhead APA, Brewdog Punk IPA, Boundary Road, Tuatara. My partner liked the selection of wines on offer and thoroughly enjoyed the Beach House Riesling she ordered.

We ordered the Riesling, a pint of Brewdog, the Fish and Chips and the Chook burger. Each main came with fries.

The barman/waiter, was really friendly and helpful. Our orders came out in good time.

Fish and chips:
Chips, two pieces of battered fish, salad and homemade tartar sauce. Chips were nice, the fish was a fishy tasting fish, but it was ok. The salad was a little salty and flat. The tartar was nice but could have been chucky not just a sauce. Overall though a nice dish.

Chook burger:
This was really nice, soft bun, and not too much bun - the bread didn't take over. Moist piece of chicken, good amount of bacon, tasty cheese - chicken wasn't crumbed as stated, but I preferred it without. The aioli was salty but it was really tasty. We both really enjoyed this burger.

Tip: We used the entertainment book which gave us a free main. You can use the voucher for anything except the platters. Also, take the actual voucher from the book, they are not on the card.

All up, with our discount, we paid: $39.90

There's a nice ambiance to the pub. There is seating out the front by the road getting plenty of sun. The bar area is decorated in an eclectic hipster-esque style - stressed wood, hanging lights, stain glass windows, chalk style place names. It's a bit darker on the inside. The outside area at the back has mix-and-match furniture, benches a mural on the wall. Its covered but gets plenty of light. - Smokers can smoke in the back area.

So there is an option for everyone depending what you like.

We enjoyed the overall experience of dining at Brew’d.

Horrible, got seated at a table that wobbled left and right that compared to something at rainbows end. We moved to a bigger table outside, orders were taken promptly, ordered a chook burger..$19.90 waited.. waited and then waited some more... finally came out, think they forgot about it... chicken was dry and chewy, buns were burnt.... burger consisted of cheese, chicken (thin) coleslaw... no sauce... overall good service, wouldnt recommend eating there, better burgers at Mcd's

I reserved a table for 10 for my birthday on the 19th March. We got there and was shown to our table, where it was all set up, including plenty of water and glasses.
We had a selection of starters, I shared some garlic bread, we assumed it was for 1 person but there was enough to share, and it was lovely, not bad for $8.50
We all ordered a selection of mains, I had the salmon salad, but I asked for the salmon to be cooked as it comes uncooked. It was very tasty and filling and only $21.
My husband and son had the sirloin steak and they both enjoyed it, in fact my whole family enjoyed their meals, my sister-in-laws fish and chips looked good (might try that next time).
We ordered a few desserts, I tried my husbands passion fruit cheesecake and it was yummy, but I was too full lol.
The staff were very attentive and friendly and the meals didn't seem to take long. What a great night out for my birthday, we will definitely be back again. Thankyou Brew'd.

I went to this place twice in 2012 with an Eastbourne local when it was still the "Lifeboat Tavern" and thoroughly enjoyed it. The first time we did pizza and it was brilliant - two for one so a cheap night but the food superb. The pizzas were large & tasty with generous toppings. The second time I had the ostreich burger - tasty & filling but a little dry.
I recommended the place to my fiancee in 2013. Online, it was still showing as "Lifeboat Tavern" with its usual menu. But it's now called BREW'D.
We turned up and there wasn't even a sign outside to identify it was an eatery. We went in anyway because it looked open & we'd driven across the Hutt Valley.
The decor & floor plan was half-changed. The menu sparse (still stated as Lifeboat) & the waiting staff looking puzzled most of the time.
We ordered entrees of garlic bread & calamari. After a bit of a wait my fiancee asked the waitress when we would get our meals and was treated with a look of horror - when we finally got them, more than 30 minutes later, the calamari was 6 chunks of squid (not rings) with a weird little salad on a lettuce leaf, and an unidentifiable dressing. The garlic bread was 2 or 3 supermarket dinner rolls with a thin layer of garlic-flavoured butter on the outside. We wolfed it all down because we were that hungry, but it was disappointing.
Another 30 minutes later we got our mains - I had a pizza which was satisfying & close to what they had been previously so I was happy. But I guess you can't really get pizza terribly wrong. My fiancee had a steak with beans & mashed potato. Edible but not outstanding, ie: we could have done the same at home for half the price.
We only know it's now called BREW'D because that's what appeared on our bank statement.
It's not likely we will go back.

2016: Haven't been for years - we were actually intending to try The Hive but it was full. So we gave Brew'd another go. It was better than our last visit. Today it was french toast and a burger. After a rather long wait in a not very packed house ... it was okay but not great.

The beer is fairly interesting but considering the amazing NZ/local variety out there ie garage project, three boys, pink elephant etc etc- the selection is limited and unimaginative.
On one occasion we went there was no steak at all- on asking for the venison burger- even this was not available. This was at 6pm on a very quiet evening.
Service was dismal with no knowledge of the fish of the day and we had to ask for cutlery.
We wont be going back and several other local families we know who have had similar experiences wont be either.

We felt let down by brew'd. No water to the table or offer of water. Entrees came out after the main. No cutlery or serviettes with the meal. No offer of any more drinks ,so didn't order any more. Table wasn't cleared until we were leaving. No offer of desserts. The chicken burger was tasteless My beef cheek pizza was great and meal of the table. The fish of the day "maybe warehou" but no offer of finding out. FOH requires more training, and we really are looking forward to the new menu. Will return to try this out. Good luck Brew'd.

Popped in for lunch on Saturday with my sister for a light lunch - the service was great and felt very taken care of by the lovely lady behind the bar :)

Happy to serve the bacon which came with the pancake stack on another plate (she's vegetarian, but I love bacon so had that for myself ;)). Also had the chicken wings and calamari - both very delish - which went perfectly with a couple of Brew Dog Punk IPA's on tap.

Enjoyed the courtyard with the sun beaming down and had an enjoyable time. We don't come out to Eastbourne all that often, but will make every effort to come back!

We dinned here as had the Lifeboat in our entertainment book. Unfortunately they have changed owners and would not let us use it but we decided to stay as had already purchased drinks.
The service here is very good and we found the staff lovely.
I ordered the Ceasar salad which I had trouble eating and left most on my plate. I checked to see if they had anchovies listed on the menu in this but there where not any which is why I ordered it. It came out with more anchovies than bacon and was under seasoned with terrible croutons.
My husband had the venison burger which he felt was average and could of been cooked slightly more.
The courtyard were we dined was extremely hot and there where no fans or fresh air as it was covered.
They used to have platters here but they have been taken off the menu so I don't think we will go back.
