Review Haru Sushi - Ellerslie

We had takeaway lunch from Haru Sushi. Quality and amount was excellent. Great customer service and really nice and clean shop. We had the Teriyaki Chicken Lunch Box, and sushimi tuna, and salmon, very large pieces. Would highly recommend this place.

Donburi Teriyaki Chicken is the best. If you want a bigger portion, custom order it with double extra chicken and double extra mayonnaise. Delicious! And excellent customer service with a smile.

I must say this sushi really exceeded all expiations. So fresh and a really good range to choose from. I tried the chicken & avo + the salmon sushi and they were great picks. I’ll be coming back for sure. James Ashwin Kakapo Business Sales

Wonderful little restaurant. Portions are good, service is fast, and the atmosphere is nice. Lots of people in and out, but not too crowded. Lots of sushi and lunch set options. Highly recommend Chicken katsu udon combo for $22.

My absolute favourite sushi place I've found in Auckland. Lovely people running it, and the Teriyaki is the best I've had anywhere. Even the rice has a lovely drop of sauce added to it.

The food has always been pretty good here. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the place is always clean. My personal favourite is the chicken katsu curry with a classic salmon and avo roll coming in a close second.

This is a fantastic Sushi Bar and my personal favourite. Well worth a visit. It is a great place for lunch and is also open late enough to swing by for dinner too

If your looking for fast sushi out of the cabinet or off the menu this place is fresh and has a good variety. Unbeatable in Auckland Central.

We love sushi and decided to treat ourselves at this wee place on Saturday and it was such a delight. We ordered the chicken katsu, takoyaki, and the chicken teriyaki skewers and everything was delicious! Stop in here if you're in Ellerslie!

Got a few pieces of sushi for lunch, the sushi with grilled salmon was quite nice but the rice seemed overcooked that day so it was too soft :(

A slightly above average Japanese “take away” place offering dine in or takeaway and most people take away as dine in is not that nice. You have the option of selecting your own sushi and building your own takeaway box.

I honestly love this place! I come here on most of my breaks to get a dose of the amazing Japanese cuisine! Yes Haru is on the more expensive side but it's totally worth it. The Teriyaki Chicken lunchbox is to die for 😊 #amazing! In terms of the venue and service, the store is always clean and the staff are always friendly with gleeming smiles!! I'd rate this place higher if I could!

I have eaten the sushi here a few times. I welcome a Japanese restaurant in the community. I look out for the quality of the rice in the sushi to make it standout. I found this to be a undercooked. It should be soft. Perhaps change to the sushi rice.

I really enjoyed the sushi at Haru! It tasted super fresh as they made it to order at about 7pm. It's a cute spot in Ellerslie, and nice to have a Japanese option there. The gyoza was really nice too but could have been cooked a little longer as it was a little too pale for me. Will definitely be back.

Nicely plated but nothing spectacular. Has a home cooked feel to it in they way it is presented, especially because it is on a plate rather than the usual Bento box.<br/><br/>Sashimi/nigiri is fresh and well made.

Nice small shop. I've ordered the pork katsu on rice. It was really tasty. It comes with salad, a big piece of pork cutlet, rice and mayo. They have added sweet teriyaki sauce on my rice and pork cutlet to make it sweet I love it !

Decent sushi offered here. No freshly made wasabi though. You'll get the packeted stuff here. This was a reasonable visit and the sushi tasted fresh even at 4pm.

Lunched here just yesterday, great selection on the menu but we both decided to get udon, one chicken teriyaki udon and one vegetable udon. The udon was so deliciously silky! And the soup was nicely sweet. <br/> Really good udon! The chicken was absolutely delicious, slightly crispy and coated with teriyaki, just the right way to have teriyaki chicken! <br/> Vegetable were pretty standard, tempura battered. <br/><br/> Definitely will be back for more! Staff are friendly although the restaurant is fairly small, the food really wins here!!

Amazing chicken teriyaki donburi. Its never enough in the bowl.. U feel like having more of it. Sushi is good and fresh, but less options to choose from..

This place has the best sushi on the Ellerslie Main Highway shops strip and it knows it. <br/><br/>Unfortunately the price of sushi at this joint brings down the score a lot, $1.70 for a single salmon piece? A tad ridiculous I'd say. <br/><br/>Sushi is fantastically delicious though 😄

The sushi is good quality, better than St. Pierres but not as good as Bian. Lacking vegetarian options overall and the guy at the check out is not the friendliest but not unfriendly neither.

Nice small shop. Great place for a quick work lunch or to get some take aways. Their food is very good, quick and reasonably priced. Tables are limited, polite staff yet very transactional. So might not be the place to go for a special occasion.

Have always been a big fan of Haru since I first went there, food is delicious and they seem to always use the freshest ingredients. My favorite things to order are the chicken/pork Katsu and the prawn tempura udon.<br/>I definitely recommend trying this place out.

Love this place! It is super cute and situated right by the ellerslie train station. It's the only Japanese I could find down the main road and it is one of my favorites in Auckland. The staff are friendly, but also fast and efficient. The restaurant is pretty standard, lots of tables and chairs with lots of pictures of food on the walls and so on. The sushi is very very fresh (they actually get new fish every single day and never sell food from the previous day - the owner is very knowledgeable). They do a great range of in house meals too like sashimi and udon noodles. I would recommend trying the rainbow roll sushi or the dumplings.

Good food but too expensive for what it's for. They are the only Japanese restaurant in the area and they know it. I work locally and if their prices were more affordable we would drop in more often. Maybe some lunch specials or a loyalty card? I highly recommended the agedashi tofu and chicken katsu curry.

I was a little surprised that for both japanese diners in Ellerslie that I eat at often that I had not posted how good they were.<br/>Haru is the smaller of the two situated as the last store at the motorway overbridge end of the ellerslie shops. The last time and in fact usually it is to get quick sushi selections. Dragon roll is my favourite and they really do premium end sushi and sashimi.<br/>This week being winter ordered cooked foods. A udon with tempura prawn, chicken donburi and a katsu curry tempura prawn. To start, just in case the servings was too small, added a set of gyzoya.<br/>Udon was simple. Came in good cockles-warming broth but not miso soup. Udon itself was soft not plasticly and not chalky. Prawns were packed in a separate pack so not to get soggy - you get three good size tempura batter. Batter was fresh light and faultless. 5/5 for the udon.<br/>Chicken donburi: really well prepared and hard to beat elsewhere. Chicken was cooked perfectly biting into a piece was so tender. Also not overdone in sauce that you can't tell if it was chicken or lamb. A little soda might have been the better of me. 4.5/5<br/>Tempura prawn with Katsu curry. I think this was suppose to be spicy. On this occasion the prawn was left on the rice with gravy and the grave was soaked up. That took the edge off the tempura after soaking the soup. Food did smell really good. 3/5<br/>The gyzoya set was well cooked and even too cooked. Chewy and a Superfical taste. 2/5<br/>Just an update for the above listed food I was charged $71 so that was a little extreme suggest you check your atm receipt! !<br/>

Loving the sushi from here! The sushi always tastes fresh (perhaps this is because it is made on the spot when you order). <br/>We always dine in store and the food is usually presented neatly. <br/><br/>This place is probably my favourite sushi joint in Auckland. It's definitely worth a try if you are ever in the neighbourhood (and if you're feeling peckish for sushi) ☺️

My favourite sushi place in Auckland little pricey but what you get completely worth it . The chicken donbouri is amazing would recommend that.

Really over priced and not much range but good food none the less. The guy who runs it and works there can be very rude so not great customer service.

Great place for lunchtime sushi! The queue usually leads out the door on a weekday. <br/><br/>The dinner menu isn't bad either if you're looking for something quick and tasty. It's one of our favourite sushi places to frequent.

Haru Sushi is the best local option for sushi in Ellerslie. There is a large selection of made-to-order rolled sushi - the French Kiss Roll (prawn tempura, lettuce and cucumber filling topped with shrimp and avocado, $13) and Rainbow Roll (avocado, crabmeat and cucumber filling topped with shrimp, raw tuna, salmon, eel and avocado, $14) are personal favourites for lunch. <br/><br/>The $15 lunch boxes (also available at dinner) are great value for money. With a choice of sukiyaki beef, teriyaki chicken, donkatsu or spicy pork served on rice and sides including two pieces of sushi, tempura (veges and prawn), seaweed salad, and lettuce salad. <br/><br/>There is limited seating for dine in, but I usually phone in for a take-away and pick up in 10 minutes. Unfortunately, Haru Sushi closes at 8pm (and is closed on Sundays) which is rather early so if you have a hankering later in the evening then bad luck!

Have been here about five times. Quite good Japanese food here. Reasonably priced, fresh ingredients and tasty. <br/>Very small dine in space (only four or five tables inside) so is mostly recommended for a fleeting takeaway sushi lunch if you only have 12 to 1 available. <br/>Will be coming back!
