Review Golden Dragon Seafood Restaurant - Epsom

浩哥-奥克兰
A must come Chinese rest in Epsom. Sometimes it’s called Golden Steamboat. The dishes will cost more than $40 but they are bigger than most of other rests, so on average it’s still worth the money you pay. Parking sometimes it’s difficult on site but you can park on Alba road. Toilet is average like a typical Chinese rest. Overall I highly recommend this rest.

The food is so good. Each dish is big in portion that we need to cancel one of our orders. The setting of the restaurant is pretty crowded. Make a booking is highly recommended.

Best Chinese restaurant I've been to in a while, our group of 5 included my sons Chinese girlfriend who luckily was very familiar with the restaurant so ordered the duck in advance as they sell out by about 730, we also ordered deep fried ribs, pepper beef, prawn fried rice, pork belly, all very good, my favorite was the the deep fried ribs, excellent, and the duck with plum dipping source. Service was fast and friendly, only issue was the table next to us, who treated the restaurant as if it was their home and were very noisy but we were having such a good time we didn't notice them after a while. Will definitely return, excellent venue for groups where you can share the large servings. Highly recommended

Probably one of the best Crispy Pork and BBQ pork on rice meals I’ve had. The Crispy pork was not too salty and the crackling was had the perfect crunch without feeling like it could break your teeth. The BBQ Pork was mouth watering, nice thick cuts and quite fatty so a very rich taste. Although it is on the more expensive side for a regular 2 combination on rice meal, the quality of the meat, and the portion size made it worth is. The 4 star rating is because we ordered in advance but upon picking it up we discovered the order had not been put through so we had to wait.

Good food and great presentation for weddings Fast efficient waiter service.

Good value for quality food served, definitely will come back again when around the area. Sorry I only took the photos after I started because the food look so tasty!

Love the food here! Sometimes it’s a bit oily but Yolo! Must try it out if you have not. 😊

Absolutely the best crispy pork on rice, loved the gravy/sauce on the rice! Sweet and sour fish was really good as well.
Martin Diehl
Absolute winner. It all starts when you walk into the Golden Jade that you are greeted Japanese style which is truly amazing. You are welcomed into the cooks kitchen and see all that is being prepared while eating whatever fabulous selection from the menu. A definite must go. Highly Recommend! We have been there many times before and continue to enjoy its friendly Japanese atmosphere and excellent cuisine everytime!
David Yung
Nice as usual big portions which is good. Too many big tables which if busy then you might have to share a table.

The best Cantonese style roast pork belly in Auckland. Salty free range chicken and roast duck combo is great value for money too!
David Nickerson
Food was amazing. Huge portions, definitely didn't need rice! We had the Peking duck which was spectacular - first course was great, and the second we had the "boney bits" in a dry chilli which was super tasty.
Vanessa Hu
Love their duck and free range chicken, others are bit pricey… but tastes good

Came for dinner tonight with family friends. The place is quite spacious for a Chinese restaurant and we were seated in the corner which was good for privacy. We ordered:
1) Braised pork belly with preserved cabbage- pork was tender and melting in the mouth, well balanced by the sourness of the cabbage. I’ve had this dish in many other places and this was pretty top notch for flavour.
2) Sizzling black pepper beef hot plate with onions- beef slices with large yet tender. Would liked more pepper flavour in the dish and the onions to be slightly more cooked.
3) Seafood tofu hotpot- very generous with the seafood, lots of juicy prawns/fish/ scallops which all tasted fresh. Really enjoyed this dish too.
4) Vegetable hotpot- good amount of vegetables with large slices of varied mushrooms. I found some veg over cooked and too fibrous to eat.
We also enjoyed the pork bone soup and a generous platter of fruits including cherries, strawberries and mangosteen that came complimentary with dinner.

Overall while the prices are steeper compared to other Chinese restaurants, but you pay for very generous portions and good quality food. Service was mediocre- our waitress was very impatient to take our order but food came our very quick. Ambience wise I would rate it poor especially as tonight a large group of drunk Chinese men across the room were making a huge racket, it should be better at other times.

Food amazing. But staff are SO rude. Wanted to get takeaway for complimentary soup and i had to ask twice for the takeaway containers. When i finally got them the waitress was mouthing out to one of the other staff members.
Like whats your problem?
Speakers Addict
This place used to be great but now is just horrible. Staff were rude and unprofessional. They don’t have what you want and will talk rudely about you in Cantonese as if you don’t understand. I do not recommend this restaurant, it is a waste of time and money and I would rather spend more money to go to a better restaurant. Not recommended! :-(
Charis Yang
Great portion of food and quality, good taste of Southern Chinese style. The environment is a bit noisy and crowded but that occurs in most Chinese restaurant. Lamb ribs, fried noodle are especially recommended.
Yellow Rabbit
Hands down one of the most authentic canto food you’ll get in Auckland, love coming here as a big group or have our takeaway rituals here. Don’t except 5 star hospitality service here thou cos the food really makes it for it. If you dine in you get a free bowl of hot homey soup WIN! Some of my favourite dishes is the og sweet and sour pork and black pepper beef.

LuNa The TuNa
Always order take away from golden jade. I love their porridge, seafood soup. But tuatua is the best. Stirfrying spicy frrsh tuatua woth rice. I can ate them all
Coffee Macarons
Went for a quick lunch to grab. The proportions of food were pretty big compared to pricing. It also tasted delicious. But, I didn't really feel welcomed as a customer..

4.5/5 Taste
4.5/5 Display
5/5 Quantity
4/5 Customer Service

Spectacular Fantastic Wholesome

Although I only went in for small feed and the price seemed higher than other Chinese Restaurants, they gave me portion enough to feed my whole family.
First off the complimentary soup had so much meat I couldn’t understand their logic behind this.
Their roasts were top class no doubt, roast duck and roast pork were sooo moist juicy and crispy, perfectly seasoned too.
The noodle that came with the roast was so addictive I couldn’t stop eating.
Mapo Tofu, clap clap clap, dont even need to say anything about this just take your money out and drive to this restaurant k thanks bye.
It’s by any definition, a negative experience of both food and it’s service, considering being a native Chinese it feels worst. Food wise,e.g. the congee is overpriced for smaller amount, 1/4 roasted duck is rather bones and fat than meat to enjoy; service wise is an addition to future disappointment, e.g. when my enquirer to the counter, I received a cold shoulder and extra an eye contact to ensure me as customer to feel sorry about myself for rising question.
Lizzie
Came here for dinner last night with a big group. The portion sizes are massive but when you compare with the price, they are really just charging you double what you would usually pay for half the portion size. The food is yum and authentic and you get free soup to start and also free fruit to finish. The decor is a little dated as Chinese restaurants often are but that’s okay. service was reasonably good also. Would recommend to anyone wanting a great Chinese meal.

Is it normal?! I used to order Golden Jade almost every week, I was a big fan of them. But when I called them to report the conditions of the chicken, their attitude was so bad!! One of the employee said: We never have this situation before! And I said it is something black on the chicken! Then she said I can give u this 15 dollars individually! No need the permission from the boss (which means she thinks that I am making a trouble to them in purpose) To be honest, im not mad of the dishes but the attitude of employees!
Diner8Here
Do not expect to be treated like a Queen/King here as this place is a very traditional Cantonese diner and they don't care if you love or hate their way of service, as they do have regular patrons. So if you're gonna dine here i suggest you ask a Chinese mate to accompany, translate and shout (pay) you here.
But one thing i do like about this place is the free complimentary soup which is typical at any Canton diners and before i can finish this the dishes i ordered came out super quick, which was the beef hor fun and crackling roast pork on rice.
Yes is quite expensive but then again the dishes is quite generous and had to take the left overs home.
Real Slug
Always great and fast service.

My favourites are the 牛肉炒面 (beef fried noodles) and pork on rice. Portions are large and taste delicious.

The restaurant itself is quite large and nicely decorated.
Dxlche
A classic Cantonese restaurant that is really popular with the Asian community. We ordered four dishes between five people. The portions were huge and we left with two takeaway boxes.

Their bbq pork is phenomenal. All the other dishes were good but nothing else stood out as much as the pork.

Overall the price was $190.. really steep.
Rachel Liew
We ordered takeaway, half Cantonese style free range chicken. When we tasted it, we did not get any delicious depth accompanied we usually get from free range chicken. It's just bland as usual table chicken. I highly doubted whether we were served with a free range chicken or not.
Never mind no more.
Rosanne Choy
One of the best Canton cusinies out there.
Problem is I go too often so it might affect my judgement of this restaurant.
Food is okay. Come in for a lunch and you get free soup with the meal. Portion sizes are huge and price is good. Worth trying if you haven't already yet.
Richard Liu
Staff ignore you when you arrive (they do not even greet you). They had me waiting even though I had already reserved a table and they could have taken me to my reserved table instantly. Their food is oily and full of MSG. I would not recommend.
J Li
Strengths: good roast meat and good quality of food. Down sides: can get too crowded and needed a long wait for table, and can be pricy. Favourite is their roast duck, soy free range chicken and fried rice.
Alice G
The dishes are unrealistically overpriced...we ordered a stir fried beef with bitter melon and was charged $59 for this!!! It was recommended by a waitress and we felt the whole instance was quite cheeky. Don't order anything that's not listed on the menu...
We won't return to this place. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant is so rundown and small so there's no way they could charge this high. I've never been to a place in Auckland that charges $60 for a stir fried beef dish.
CrazyCatLady_EmmaC
Nice Canto Chinese food and big portion. We order from this place quite often as the quality of the food is not bad and they are usually really fast in terms of service. Recommend: lemon chicken, fried tofu with special sauce, yang chow fried rice, hot sour soup and sizzling plate beef.
Heidi
Very big portions and very delicious! I came here for lunch with my brother and mum and their roasted ducks and pork are to die for! They are so juicy and tender and it was just sooooo good! We even takeaway the duck for dinner to eat, it was just amazing!
WoodyPenny
Delicious dishes and comfortable to have a meal here. The portion is so big and worth for money.
Recommend to have dinner or gathering here.
Edwin Gu
Food is relatively average in taste. The only highlight is the garlic prawn, other dishes are very Cantonese, may not be suitable for all people. They appears to be understaff, every staff is very busy, walking very fast no smile, and also making a lot of noice when they clean tables.
Sharon Louie
I came here for a family dinner and I really enjoyed the dishes. The seating is a little crowded but it isn't too awful. Food was seasoned nicely and service was good. I recommend this place.

Dined here for dinner last night, after selecting this for Fathers Day dinner 😊

Never disappointed in the food here as we have dined here in the past and with the big portions and quick service of food. . Great stuff!
Staff for the most part are helpful but rushed off their feet so may seem a little stressed.

Ordered the Chinese sauce beef sizzling plate, egg yolk prawns, special tofu, vermicelli steamed oysters, and Gai Lan stir fried with garlic.
Chinese sauce beef was beautiful soft and flavourful, lacked some veges in my opinion that you'd find in that standard sizzling plate but they really packed it generously with meat!
Egg yolk prawns were good, prawns battered well and tasty.
Special tofu, this is my preferred way of having tofu. Loved it! Silky with crispy outer, delicious!
Oysters were over steams so rather tough, the vermicelli was dry. . Not the best I've had. .
The gailan was really good, had the great al dente texture and wonderfully garlicky!

All in all, the bill was $220, great food for the most part and I definitely will be back for more.
Noodle Nuts
The food was xtra average . Saturday night no one else in the restaurant . The smell was disgusting and staff were socialising and preparing food on the tables where everyone could see . Do not come here I don't like this one

If you have a group of friends or family, you can choose to come here for a dinner. Because the portions are big and the prices are a little expensive which are good for sharing. If you come here just yourself or with a friend, you can choose to have a lunch because they offer cheap light lunch. The meal of this restaurant is yummy, especially the free pork seaweed soup which is my favourite.
Hajra Amir Zohaib
They don't have spoons or plates so don't be surprised but the awesome food was enough to make up for it. We had curry chicken on rice (ask them to remove pineapple if you don't want it) and chicken on satay sauce. The satay chicken was expensive but so worth it and even the quantities were amazing
Michael Hung
We went there for a quick lunch last week and got the roasted duck/BBQ pork noodles. The amount of noodles they gave you for the double combo is HUGE ! Plus they got the best roasted duck in Auckland and the portions were very generous! The only downside was the restaurant is very busy and crowded, it's not unusual to be seated with others when they don't have any small tables available.
Benedict Uy
This place gets really busy so if you are really wanting to come then make sure to book a table.

The items on the menu is quite expensive, around $30 to $60 per plate. However when they serve you the food you see that the portions are ginormous. The dishes are easily 1.5-2x larger than other places. Easily feed 3 people on one dish with rice. They also served a large pot of soup with lots of meat to start.

The food itself is quite nice. The favourite of the lot was the chicken and mushroom hot pot because the chicken at the bottom of the pot got really crispy.

We came over lunch and what other people were doing was ordering a plate of the BBQ dishes and shared it between three or so people.

Nice place for nice Chinese food.
Chenqin9090
The staffs are extremely rude and unprofessional. Service is awful!!! Would not recommend this place due to the poor service and food, never came back again, Don't go there if you can not speak Cantonese.
Alix
It was actually my dad who discovered this place. We were already expecting that this restaurant does generous servings but wow, it's more generous than what we expected. On top of that, food are delicious and cheap! Great value for money! Before our meal, they also gave us a huge bowl of soup - more than enough for us three. Ambiance is nice too, classy compared to a typical Chinese restaurant. I particularly liked their chinawares -- it's rooster themed :D

We ordered - eggplant with salted fish, jee jee chicken, sweet & sour fish - all three were fantastic :)
Chuchueats
At first glance of the menu the prices seemed a bit high, but once the dishes were served and the quality of the food was being consumed, it was all worth it. Only thing was service was a bit slow as they forgot our main dishes soon after serving the soup and peiking duck. Overall though would highly recommend for dining!
Joanne
Great place to go for Chinese food, has seemingly large portions and food arrives quite fast.
The prices are alright, about $30 for each dish.
It's always busy so it's ideal to book ahead of time.
Patrick Chen
The staffs are so rude. They says opening at 11am , when I walk in to order some takeaways, one of the staff said bluntly we are having lunch you need to wait. What the... how about put a CLOSE on the front door until until all your staffs finish nice little lunch. Just waste of my time waiting for more than 40 mins for their takeaways. Never come back again. There are plenty of choice in the town

First time trying food in this area, just had enough money to buy some BBQ Pork on Rice; one of my all-time favourite Asian dishes. Although the rice was really hot, it was fresh and soft. Instead of eating one half of rice and one half of meat, I would mix the two together before I start eating so the rice would have some flavour from the sauces they put in with their meat.

Just your usual dine-in restaurant the service was decent, offered me some water before I made an order which was great because I had just come from a workout and was still thirsty at the time.

Walking inside the place is clean, the tables are quite big. You could bring almost a whole rugby team to dine in. But I only came in with a few of my classmates from uni. It does tend to build up during the day, so I would suggest getting it takeaway. Overall, it's a pretty decent place.
I_like_pickles
Have been here a few times and have no idea why this place gets so busy.
The food is satisfactory. It's not bad but it's not fantastic either.

They get so busy here that we were shoved in a corner that wasn't really dining space. They just put a table and chairs to make more dining space.
I was constantly having to shift my seat and duck my head from the people walking by. The space is honestly really cramped and because it gets so busy here, the service is really poor as well.

On this particular visit it took ages before our food arrived and the food wasn't piping hot. It was warm, like it had been left on the table for a while before being served to us.

Parking is also a nightmare around here. It's on a really busy main road right by a busy intersection.
Alan Ng
The roast on rice dishes are the best in town! I usually go for Roast Duck and Pork on rice. The portion size is generous. One of the things Golden Jade gets it right and which separates from many other restaurants is their perfect cooked rice and that is very important when rice is being served with any roasts. Other stir fries are very good quality and quantity, fast service!. Will always try to come back for more.
Andrean
Our family friend invited us for a dinner in this place. We order several dishes and they are nice. The service is quick and the staff is friendly 😊
Jo Cheung
If I were only rating the food, it would be a solid 4.5 stars. Large portions of delicious food. Everything we've had was great. The roast pork is always crispy. Always have left overs to take home as well.

The service however is appalling. Staff are extremely rude and unprofessional, especially if you can speak Chinese. They give away tables that you've already booked. And twice, they've overcharged us and argued about it when we brought it up.

The only reason we keep going back is for the food and portion size.
Mia
It' the first time we came here. It gave us an excellent impression first when the staff patiently told me the direction to find the place. It's not that remote but if you drive it would be a bit difficult to locate it.

For the food, although it doesn't serve dim sum, the other dishes such as the unique Cantonese style SIu Mei rice (BBQ pork rice, etc.) and the fried rice taste just like what I used to have in HK.

Plus the big portion and the price just make the price undefeated.

Definitely will go next time.
Queena
Have been here twice now. This place serves up fast and their dishes actually taste good. I don't remember what most of these dishes are called but they are tasty and you could say it's pretty authentic there. Big portions.

Service isn't bad here. Does get pretty busy here during the dinner hours. And it is quite disturbing when the workers slam down all the cups and bowls onto the glass turner thing on the table when they set up the table for the next lot of customers. So loud and sounds like they're gonna break them 🙄
HJ
Went here for dinner last night and it was packed! Filled with families and large groups - it's the perfect place for them as all their tables are big! We were the only couple there that night. The service is pretty good compared to other Chinese restaurants I have been too. They have a lot of staff that always seems to be keeping busy.

The restaurant is is pretty plain but I loved the cutlery - hand painted and matching plates, bowls, cups and also the teapot. Green tea is also served as soon as you are seated.

We ordered the salty fried tofu and the vegetarian fried noodle. Priced at $30 we thought the fried tofu was quite pricey! But judging the portion size on tables near by we trusted it would be well portioned. It sure was! We had half the plate left over to take home. The tofu was very good - lightly fried and the right amount of saltiness. The noodle dish was also a generous portion. We would have liked a bit more flavour in this dish and more than just two pieces of tofu, luckily we had plenty in our other dish.

Worth trying out with a group of friends as the portions are huge and there is plenty to choose from on the menu.
Claudia
The Golden Jade is one of my families favourite restaurants and we are regular customers. Their lunch menu is extensive, relatively inexpensive, tasty, and best of all, comes in good sized portions. For dinner the mains are always massive and ideal for feeding larger crowds. I love when they sell duck wings or joongs as you can never go wrong with the them and they're always under $5 or $10!! Definitely coming back.
Caleb Wong
Average service !!! Food was delayed.
However food quality wasn't too bad for Chinese restaurant vs price of the dishes. Was a let down hence the low rating due to customer service.
Christian
OK, I know this place has received some criticism but I still think it's a good place with some classic Cantonese dishes. The price range is around $30 for a meat dish but do expect HUGE dishes! I only come here with more than 4 people and even then 3 dishes are more than enough. The quality of food is good with "clean" Chinese tastes. This is not a place to expect great service and sophisticated dinning experience, but if you are open-minded and want to experience how (some) Chinese socialise on big tables, then try this place.
Jamie Chiang
Sure, you can come here for a typical Chinese dinner - large plates of typical Chinese dishes on a round table. But you should end all expectations there. I came here to grab dinner to go one evening. Upon walking in, I was greeted with a table of staff, peeling vegetables and wrapping wontons and whatnot. Seems ever so slightly unhygenic when you consider how close they are to the door and how out in the open they are. This isn't necessarily something that is unique to this restaurant, however, as many Chinese restaurants will practice the same.
What was different, however, was the service that I received. I walked in, and asked for a menu. The shop keeper merely stared at me for around 5 seconds, before I asked again in Chinese. He seemed fairly impatient and fed up - either with me or just being there, and I felt rushed to place an order. When I did, he just turned and walked away. No indication as to how long it would take, or where I should wait.
The food was meh at best - nothing too extraordinary; but then again, like I had stated before, this was just your typical Chinese restaurant, perhaps not as good as the others. The food and service suggests I take my business elsewhere next time.
Phillip Liu
The food was great although it was $200 for dinner for 5 guests. I would defiantly come here again.
Great Chinese food.
Kirsten
Golden Jade is a great place to come to if you want to enjoy Chinese food. The prices of their dishes are quite affordable, a bit more expensive than other Chinese restaurants. However, the portion of the dishrs are quite big so I guess it's worth it! Tonight we ordered the Sweet and Sour Pork, Fish with Corn Dressing and a Tofu Pot (not exactly sure what it'a called in English). There was a piece of pork in the Fish with Corn Dressing dish, which they have mistakenly put in there. But overall, the family and I were pleased with the taste and presentation and the staff were fine. I'll come back here when if I'm ever in dying need of Chinese food.

Golden Jade is my family's go-to Chinese restaurant for birthdays and other special occasions. The service is okay; they're always super busy but communication is a lot easier between my parents and the staff because they can speak Cantonese! I was dining here with my friends once, and if you call up in advance to let them know you want Peking Duck, they can specially prepare it for you so the skin is crispy and the duck is freshly roasted. Bonus points for this!

The food portions are big and they also taste good! We usually get the same dishes though. Two meat plates, one vegetable dish and the fried prawn balls! These are amazing! I would definitely recommend ordering this once to try.

The food at Golden Jade tastes like authentic cantonese food, so definitely worth coming here if you want a taste of cantonese cuisine! I would also book in advance! Golden Jade is usually always full!

Sarah Reynolds #challenge

Came here for lunch with my family today. We arrived at around 1:30 and the restaurant was still pretty busy so we had to share a table with another family. Which is not ideal but hey the restaurant is small so I guess it's common here.

Ordered the bbq duck and bbq pork rice. Loved it! Definitely recommend ordering their BBQ selection. Cheap and big portion too.

Good place to go when you want somewhere affordable and you're guarantee to walk out really full!

My visit to Golden Jade was on Saturday evening. I made a booking for 4, well in advance for this 6:30 dinner. I was led to a table for 10, with a customer sitting there waiting for the take-away (because there were no small tables yet); I was gutted. After a few minutes, I was led to another table, which was originally occupied by a couple who were then asked to move to a smaller table. Absolutely outrageous! While waiting for my friends to arrive, I was asked to make the order, hinting that we had to finish our meal in an hour - what an absurdity! When my friends came, we ordered: fried eel with vegetable, fried pork with Sichuan spices & chicken casserole. The eel was served in small pieces - tasted alright but with bones; the pork dish was not hot with Sichuan spices; chicken was average. In general, all 3 dishes were terribly oily. While we were still having the food, fruit plate was served - a sign for us to end our meal?! It's a total disappointment to have dined at Golden Jade.
As an Aucklander, will I be there again? No. I was there once because of my ignorance. I am not going to pay for such an insulting service the second time.
(Food - 3/5; Service - 0.5/5; Ambience - 1/5)

Friends recommended Golden Jade for take-away Chinese food. We planned to dine-in and didn't expect it is a very decent restaurant. When looking at the menu, I believe the menu for dine in and take away are different.
Two of us ordered the Chef's fried rice and Deep Fried Spare Ribs with Garlic. The portion is way too large... yet, both dishes are good!! It's the best Chinese restaurant I have tried in Auckland so far! Will try their BBQ and take away next time!
Tim Sanders
Huge portions, my family always dine in and order way too much for ourselves, which always ends up with us having leftovers for dinner/lunch which is always good. Awesome BBQ dishes tastes freshly cooked all the time.

One of the little-known gems of Auckland when it comes to decent Chinese food. I love and have eaten Chinese food all over Auckland but Golden Jade's consistency in classic Cantonese goodness plus the huge, generous servings makes this place a family favourite. When you visit I recommend not ordering the "mains"; these are great for sharing between 6 or more, but for 4 or less people I suggest ordering the "smaller" dishes that come with rice or noodles. They're meant to be for lunch or for one person, and are priced at around $15, but the dishes are actually big enough to be shared.

The duck here is fantastic and at $28 for a whole duck (price as at 2014) it's real value for money. The sweet and sour pork is usually good, though during this particular visit most bits of pork were disappointingly fat. If you love fish, I highly recommend the tofu, fried fish bowl.

The restaurant service and cleanliness is better than most average Chinese eateries, but don't go in expecting too much (then again Chinese food isn't about the fancy service or decor).

Takeaways on this occasion as place is full on Sat. Night. Worth the drive to pickup as food above average. Got one surprise dish that was too salty over marinated beef brisket. Rice noodle dish never disappoints. Since had the rice noodle prawn dish eat in.

Golden Jade is your classic Chinese Restaurant found on Manukau road in Epsom. I tend to only visit these sort of places when its a family dinner. We came early on a sunday night. Its a very popular eatery because by 6pm when we left its was almost full.

The dishes look expensive however the size of them are huge. We ordered 5 dishes between 5 of us and to be honest it probably could have fed 10 people as we left with mounts of takeaways. Everything we ordered came out steaming hot. The only dish that was disappointing was the prawns and noodles hot pot. The prawns were in their shell making it difficult to eat and were overcooked. The green beans with pork mince is always my favourite vege dish and would recommend ordering it. You can't go too wrong by the menu descriptions on a Chinese menu, its the same at most places you visit.

Overall the service is no different to most Chinese restaurants where the expectation is to sit, eat and leave. The staff are as friendly as it will ever be.

Rating
Food: 8/10
Service: 7.5/10
Value for Money: Good

417 Manukau Road, Epsom
Opening Hours: Mon-Sun 11am-230pm

Literally "Bang for the buck", huge dish for the price of none, sometime gets you wondering how on earth can they make a profit. Not to mention they offer free soup of the day! But be sure to pop in early for that, most days they run out for the late comers.

I love Golden Jade, this place serves the best roast duck! When you dine in, they give you free soup (really big bowl) and also fruits at the end. Portions are huge! Must try the spicy-salted tofu, special pork ribs and prawn balls. Yummmmm

I went with some friends to this restaurant. We ordered some dishes, but they brought out all but one of the dishes. Even after around 1.5 hours, and we finished eating the food they did not bring that particular dish out. So one of my friends went to pay, and me and the others sat and waited, and when he went to pay they included that dish of food that we never got, and insisted on making him pay for it, and they quickly got the dish out (probably old too, as they cooked/brought it out really fast) and gave it to our table and said we were not allowed to refund. But it was not fair as we were already full and were about to leave, and if they had brought the food out earlier we would not be unhappy. I'm not sure but I think we should have the right to decide whether we still want that dish or not. They never told us if the dish was coming late or not coming. So they made us "takeaway" the food. There was no apology. And the dish was about $50 and probably not taste nice overnight. Also the fish wasn't really fresh and stunk.

Excellent banquet-style Chinese restaurant, and good value for money. Come with a large group, so that you can sample multiple of the generous dishes. Complimentary soup to begin and fresh fruit at the end. Service was also friendly, with the waiter making suggestions and being patient with our indecision. Teapot was filled whenever we left the top open and staff also gave us fresh plates to replace the shell-filled ones without being asked. This restaurant is busy and does multiple sittings per night. We booked for 6pm and were clearly told in advance that we would need to be done by 7:30pm. Despite this, we did not feel rushed. Will definitely be back.

Came here with my family last night because it was close to home. For a Tuesday night it was incredibly busy.

The good:
Food is authentic and quite scrumptious with decent proportions

The bad:
Service is average. Kept rushing us to order even though we were waiting on one more person to arrive.

The ugly:
Hidden costs. We had the lobster which we were told was 2.5kg at $80/kg but was charged $277. The manager said it was because the lobster was actually 2.8kg and the price advertised was wrong. Same for stir-fried green beans, in the menu it was marked as $25 but we were charged $30. The dishonesty brought down the rating.
