Review Blue Ice Restaurant & Bar - Franz Josef

We had the Stuffed Chicken Breast & the Pork Sisig. Both tasted so good! For dessert we had the apple blueberry pie which was served warm with ice cream & fruit. Would definitely come back if it wasn’t so far from New Jersey.

Ate here twice during our Franz Josef stay. Unique and tasty food. We had the Palobok, Pork Adobo, Sisig and Bagnet, and they were all good. Especially loved the Sisig and Adobo. Friendly staff, great service and the food arrived promptly.

The food was delicious and good value, had fish n chips (I know not very adventurous but what I fancied) beautifully cooked and presented. Dessert was also great. It was quiet (only 4 tables being served) food arrived quickly but still a bit difficult to get the wait staffs attention for follow up service

What a gem of a place this is! The salmon dish was cooked to perfection and the seafood palabok exceeded all expectations. Wonderful friendly attentive service with food delivered less than 10 minutes after ordering. Furnishings are modern and comfortable. Highly recommended.

An interesting menu with a mix of Filipino and standard Western food. We tried the sisig and seafood palabok, which were both tasty. Quick service. Fairly expensive, but it's a tiny town after all.

The best lamb shank. The food was amazingly delicious . The menu has a great variety and very reasonably priced. The service was fantastic. Absolutely recommend.

On our first night in Franz Josef, our small group of seven was a bit late to the game as far as dinner plans. A few of the restaurants right in the small "downtown" were packed, so I ran up the road a bit to check to see if Blue Ice was still open. There were no outdoor diners so my expectations of availability were low, but upon entering, the manager (I confess that I never got his name), was quite welcoming and warmly stated that they would still serve us. I ran back down, got the group to follow, and what ensued was a lovely, relaxed dinner for the seven of us which included great food, friendly and fast service, and (most importantly), a sense that we did NOT have to rush out. I cannot recall exactly what I ordered, but as a vegetarian, I was able to secure a healtful meal along with stellar red wine...and that is what matters most! Thank you so much to the (unnamed) manager who turned what could have been a disaster into a memorable evening for all seven of us!!!

Elite dining experience. Well beyond my expectations dining for one. From the moment I walked thru the door I was overly impressed by the stylish decor and lavish setting. Greeted by friendly staff who welcomed me with an extensive menu offering a great selection of gluten free options and exquisite beverage variety. This followed by delicious mouth watering dishes exotic cocktails and exceptional service made this breath taking experience superb.

Had dinner here , came early and there wasn’t a crowd. We ordered a beef ribeye steak and a pork adobo. Was pleased with the choice of some Filipino cruisine which I haven’t had for a long time. The beef steak was nicely done and came with decent sides. The Adobo was quite tasty and authentic. All in a great place to dine here at Franz Josef.

Unsuspecting, and not necessarily what you’d think as you can see a bar and pool table upstairs, but superb nonetheless… a really nice place, great service, quaint layout and very very tasty food. We had the Camembert Parcel, Gnocchi, garlic bread and NZ Fillet (extremely tender and flavourful), the pics are the steak and garlic bread and what was left of the gnocchi 😂 Highly recommend!

Tried a couple of the Filipino dishes and they were simply delicious. Be brave and try something you haven't tried before, and you will be delightfully surprised. Recommendations: crispy pata, caldereta, adobo and palabok (basically everything I have tried from the restaurant) :)

Nice little restaurant, but it took a lot of time until we received our food. And the food needed some more salt and pepper.

Scrumptious dinner at Blue Ice! There are numerous food options from the land, sea, and the Philippines! Palabok and bagnet are seriously delectable 🤤 the next day I had crispy pata and it didn’t disappoint! Lovely atmosphere, very clean facility and great service! Definitely recommended a hidden gem at Franz Josef!

We left our ❤in New Zealand. Amazing country and such wonderful people. We had dinner on New Year's eve @ Blue Ice which is managed by the family, who have put their heart & soul into this place. They were extremely welcoming and warm. Our dinner there was the highlight of our trip. We were graciously offered their limo pickup & drop to our hotel by the gentleman himself who owns the place. Where in the world will you find such courtesy. The beautiful hostess who is also a family member and had come down over her Christmas break to help out at the restaurant, was absolutely charming and made everyone feel like they were at home that day. We were at no point rushed through our dinner, though we had arrived there by 7pm. We ended up staying well past midnight enjoying the music & merry crowd dancing into the New Year at their upper bar level. The meals are also prepared by the family & are heavenly. We had the Camembert Parcel, the Stuffed Chicken Breast & Duck Confit & can't stop raving about it. And, nothing is complete without dessert. We greedily polished off the Apple & Blueberry Pie to the last crumb. No trip to Franz Josef would be complete if you haven't dined there. Visit them to warm your hearts. I wish the Blue Ice Restaurant family the best for 2019 & for years to come❤

Nice to see a successful Filipino owned restaurant in the small town of Franz Josef Glacier! They serve some Filipino dishes along with the traditional western cuisine. A must visit!

Really interesting menu with a mix of Fillipino and Western-style food. I had the pork ribs and wedges, the portion size was awesome and the wedges were really saucy and tasty. The smoked salmon pizza was the standout, it was SO good, a lot more salmon than usual pizzas and I wish I lived so much closer so I could eat here all the time, and I would love to have tried the Fillipino dishes, especially the Sisig! Got takeaway, which was super easy and didn't take too long, but the restaurant was very nice and any other time I would love to eat in instead. Service was fantastic, and food was reasonably priced. Definitely recommend!

What a delightful restaurant. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and the decor pleasing. Seriously the most comfortable chairs I have sat in at any restaurant. But the food was so delicious. Highly recommend.

I am so glad we ended up having dinner at Blue Ice. We were just spending the night at Franz Josef on our NZ road trip. I met the owner and the chefs and they were really nice. I want to rave about the selections on the menu- everything we ordered were awesome. The local red wine suggestion was really good. The Asian dishes on the menu is mostly Filipino food and it was a surprise for me. I highly recommend trying out something you are not familiar with. You’ll surprise your palate. And follow that with some tall black or tea and one of their delicious dessert.
