Kiwi street dining at its best! Hangi Gourmet Kitchen in Franz Josef, NZ was an unexpected gem! Succulent fish n chips in a crisp secret recipe batter, (chips verging on addictive), tender fried squid, and an extensive menu of non-seafood items. Fast, friendly service and a pleasant eating area. Rivals the best USA food truck dining!
We visited this place on my birthday while passing through town, as we realised there weren't any other takeaways in the area (we'd just paid for a heli-hike for the occasion so I didn't want to splash out on a fancy meal too!). Oh my god. Not only was the chap who served us lovely af, the fish burger he made each of us was mind blowing. Delicious and a really generous portion size. To this day, we still talk about how good it was. Do yourself, your tastebuds, and your wallet(!), a favour, and visit this venue if you're in the area!

Been hanging for blue cod in NZ and was NOT DISAPPOINTED. Great food great friendly service wish we were staying here longer but I’ll be back.
