Review The Glasshouse Restaurant - Franz Josef

Had the mushroom pasta. My friend loved the pasta, but for me the cheese was stronger than I expected but still liked it. Portion good. Garlic bread nice. Good value for Menu. Had mud cake for dessert which was really good. We had jumping goat shots at 8 NZD each as an aperitif which I thought was great value. We sat outside and it was relatively busy with an interesting crowd.

We stayed 2 nights at Franz Josef, tried several restaurants and the best one must go is Monsoon ! The food is delicious, not too salty as others places, and prices are very reasonable. The “boss” at the counter taking the order was very friendly ! He kept our wine in freezer to keep it cold after we paid it 😂 hahaha ! Thanks bro/mate/boss 😂

We didn't eat here as didn't have time, but menu looked good and food looked amazing from what we saw coming out. We came here for drinks and loved the atmosphere and general vibe. This is the place to be for a night out in franz josef, great music, pool table, nice choice of drinks. Roaring fire.. ski lodge vibe. Really cosy!

Superrrrrrr Great experience! Super nice night enjoyed. Have to say Monsoon is the best restaurant of my first trip in NZ. Wine and food matches so great. All the people there are very nice! Trust their suggestions! It won’t let you down.

My wife and I arrived in France Joseph late. After passing through about four towns that were completely dead, we feared that we were not going to be able to find food and would go to bed hungry. Hoping to find a petrol station that was open to score some 2 minute noodles we found monsoon, not only did we get an epic dinner but the atmosphere was fantastic. Service was friendly and timely and meat lovers pizza does not disappoint.

Really delicious food. It can be crowded, but it's worth the wait😋

We were so delighted to choose this restaurant for dinner! Since we’ve had the best chowder and steak, compare to my 20yrs dinning in Australia! Even the roasted veggies and potatoes tastes so much better than the ones we had in Aus.

Came for a feed and a drink, and was very pleasantly surprised. Food was unexpectedly good (and that's saying a lot as vego fare can be a kitchens test). Staff were lovely, accommodating, and the drinks were plentiful. Thanks guys, it was a nice way to round out our anniversary.

We came here for dinner as we were staying at the Rainforest Retreat next door and we were pleasantly surprised! Delicious drinks with more than 50 gins to choose from and the food was super tasty. We had the pork crackling to start and my husband had the ribs for a main while I had the cauliflower steaks. Both meals were full of flavour and very filling! The staff were incredibly friendly and the music was great too! Highly recommend! *As per most hospitality venues at the moment they do require proof of 💉

The food was excellent, we shared the buffalo as a starter cauliflower which was delicious. The ribs I had as a main course were very tasty as well. The service was good for how busy the place was when we arrived. The meal was reasonably priced.

Monsoon Bar & Restaurant is part of the Rainbow Retreat just on Cron Street in the Franz Josef village. Opening hours are 4.30pm until late each day. We stopped by for an afternoon round of drinks during our recent stay at Rainbow Retreat. Drink list and prices seemed fair, menu looked pretty good as well although we didn't dine on the occasion. Beers were served cold and tasted fine. We liked the casual and cozy feel to the place. There are two indoor fireplaces with comfortable, wooden wall seating areas. There is also a covered outdoor area with long tables and a large rock fireplace, a great spot for a drink or two. In the end, we liked the environs of Monsoon for an afternoon round of drinks and would happily return for another. Worth a quick note as well that Monsoon appeared rather busy in the late evenings, making a potentially good stop for a bit of socialising with fellow travellers if that is what you are looking for while in Franz Josef.

This place is always pack with tourist. The food is OK, the bar serves various cocktails, spirits, wines and beers. There are various food options. The food took rather long to be served even though we have pre order the dish. Cozy place to hang out and friendly service. I tried the hippie burger (vegetarian) which taste good.
