Review Greta Valley Tavern - Greta Valley

Stopped in at the Greta Valley Tavern for lunch on the way to Christchurch and have no problem saying that this was the best meal we've had in a long time. The meals were huge and everything was cooked to perfection. The sirloin steak was exceptional and reasonably priced. Despite the cold weather, the tavern was warm with the log burner going and the whole place had a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be factoring in a stop at Greta Valley Tavern on all future trips!!

Went there with my wife after a business trip. My friend recommended this restaurant to us. He said the view is good. We enjoyed the food and the view there.

Such an amazing tavern meal! We had the steak burger and pork ribs. The steak in my husband’s burger was a seriously good bit of beef. My ribs were sticky, soft and flavourful. The chips were the star of the show though, so crunchy and fluffy on the inside. The perfect crisp chip for sweet sticky rib sauce and dipping in gravy.

Just a short stroll from the Greta Valley Campground, we really enjoyed having such a lovely 'pub' so handy! Perfect for an afternoon drink or dinner. We enjoyed a great dinner and appreciated they were dog friendly as we have a large dog that couldn't be left alone in the campground. Our entree's came out at the same time as the main meals - you can see how generous the portions are! Friendly staff, lovely place.

We were on our way to Hanmer Spring and had saved this tavern down on google maps, and it was an excellent choice to stop by to fill up our tummies. I`ve ordered my ribeye steak in medium well, and my wife ordered a bowl of creamy seafood chowder, to her amusement her chowder came with 2 mussels which seemed determined to close shut, even after cooking, as such we decided that the mussels is not cooked proper, better to leave it alone, when we inquired from the service crew, they simply shrugged their shoulder and do not seem interested to address the issue, much to our surprise. But that was not all, the sundae was mediocre, but we were happy that it is enough to cool down the afternoon heat. Overall we will come here for the ribeye steak. keep up the good food. Did we say the view is very beautiful from where they are situated with a cool breeze coming into the tavern.

A crowning glory in the South Island, it is located immediately off State Highway 1. Indulge in a delicious meal while listening to classic rock (think The Doors, The Ramones, and Dire Straits) at this restaurant. Incredible warmth and hospitality from the staff, and delicious, hearty meals that taste like they were created with love. This is the perfect spot to take it easy and revitalise your body and mind.

Called in after doing a nature walk trail. The pleasant outlook from the new(?) deck with drink in hand was exactly what we needed. We had a bowl of chips (fries) which were quite tasty. The menu offered us more choices which we will go back and sample another time. Our visit rounded off a great day out.
