Review Hazel Hayes - Hamilton

Rhiannon Blewett
Wonderful service, delivery and food was exceptional. Bun, slices and homemade pies for a work function. At least 3 days notice is recommended as they are highly sought after, can cater for small and large functions depending on notice given. Delivered on-site, on time and beautifully plated. All dietary requirements can be catered for including gluten free, vegan and nut free. (Separate meals are prepared for these) Prices are fair and reasonable considering the quality of food prepared. Highly recommend for all catering needs.

We had Hazel Hayes cater one of work events, and what a superb job they did! The service was excellent, the food was beautifully presented and most importantly... it tasted amazing! All of our attendees (and staff) were raving about the catering throughout the event after. Would definitely recommend! 😍

Over and beyond service, the lady offered to take a group photo for our birthday lunch group without being asked and offered take away options for those that did not finish their meals. The bacon hashbrowns are delicious!

Nice little place, serves food for all types and the menu changes quite often.

Great coffee and the creamy mushroom brioche is highly recommended. Great staff too

Great eggs bene with bacon and potato rosti. The potato I felt was just slightly undercooked, otherwise a top notch place!

Great welcome. They remember my name and make great coffee delivered fast. Hardly have time to write a review!

A big thank you to Dylan and the team at Hazel Hayes for the great job they did with the catering for our staff Christmas party recently. We had rave reviews from our team about the lunch! The portion sizes were spot on and everything was delicious. We have several staff members with dietary requirements who really appreciated the care that was put into the special meals as well. Thanks again team!

Once inside this awesome cafe, it felt as though we were in a cafe in Barcelona, and far away from Victoria street. It is rare to find staff that truly care about the clients. Added to this the food was tasty, filling, good quality and good value. The toilet had face cloths available, making it easy to wash up after a great meal. My family and I walked out smiling, and will definitely be back as soon as possible.

One of our favourite Hamilton cafes, food and service always consistently high standard. And in case you're wondering, the 2 for 1 chicken burger promo is genuine and 100% . We thought because we were getting "2 for 1" something might have been skimped on or left out, but we are happy to say it was everything it should be and more. Will spend the rest of the day remembering the deliciousness.....until next time Hazel Hayes, hopefully very soon.

A little family run cafe in Hamilton Central, their menu changes from time to time, and there are also a good selection of cabinet food available. Really good value with GrabOne voucher, good place to have lunch in town.
Kate
We found a grab one voucher for this, so was the reason we came, however food was really great, I ordered the eggs Benedict on a hash brown & was really flavoursome. Would go again even without grab one voucher.

Have been here a couple of times and been well impressed but today we were very disappointed.
The additional bacon we added to the eggs on toast was burnt black and and inedible, we were offered a refund but didn’t receive it. The salmon salad I was looking forward to after previous renditions that were amazing, was a bowl full of chopped cos lettuce with a mismatched pickle and packet smoked salmon.
I can only imagine that it has changed hands and the passion and care is no longer there
What a pity used to be a fav!!

I've worked right around the corner from this place for many years and have had numerous delicious coffees from the place, but never gone for food.

This all changed yesterday when I finally decided to go out for breakfast, and wow was I impressed! Staff were super friendly and the big breakfast in had was one of the best I've experienced in Hamilton.

I will definitely be returning.

Background information for our Reviews: My husband and I (early 40s with 3 kids) are fortunate enough to have grandparents in town. We both love eating out, so therefore we try to ditch the kids and get out whenever possible. The reviews we write are our (subjective) opinion based on that day’s experience, so obviously can vary greatly depending on staffing/food etc on the particular day.
On this particular day, we went out for lunch at Hazel Hayes. The staff were helpful and friendly and despite it being fairly full, managed to get a table. We both ordered the Hazel breakfasts which were good value as we had a grabone deal. I wouldn't have paid $23 each for them however, but they were tasty, unfortunately only just luke warm though. The coffee however, was burnt and tasted awful. We have previously had good coffee here so asked for a replacement. Unfortunately, it was just as bad the second time around. Both sets of our cutlery had baked on egg which was a disappointment also. Will we go back? Probably, yes, as I'm hoping this was a one- off.

I used to love hazel hayes but now I feel that the menu is quite limited. Still quite a large cabinet selection though and I quite like their hash balls.

this wasn't our first time at this cafe and it certainly will not be our last. I am always kind of surprised and slightly amazed by the friendliness of the staff. normally cafe staff on a Saturday are always grumpy and unhelpful but not at this place. it is a funky retro cafe, good coffee. I however found the coffee a bit cold for my liking, however was probably standard heat and I should have asked for hotter coffee also I got cinnamon on my cappachino wich I didn't ask for, but once again probably should have asked for chocolate sprinkle. This all is quite irrelevant if you take the food in consideration because today I had the tastiest salad I have ever had.. nothing compares to it. was the broccoli brussel sprouts and Tom Yum salmon.. OMG seriously. my partner had the Hazel Hayes breakfast and was equally happy, included perfectly poached eggs.. Thank you guys for a great establishment in a city with pretty average Cafes.

Loved the vegan dish here. It was super tasty and something different! Thank you for thinking outside of the box! Unfortunately no longer traveling to Hamilton so only got to try it once. But highly recommend!

Every since having Hazel Hayes cater the Ball, I have been waiting for the time to trial their cafe!
Went for desert on a quiet day and first impression was their style of displaying the sweets was unique!
We got a cheesecake ($4) and a P&B white choc slice ($4). Both were immensely delicious! I can't even decide which was better!
They were small, hence the cheap price, HOWEVER, I would much prefer spending a small amount of money for a small portion of desert. This way I don't get sick from the sweetness and I can trial more!

The decoration was beautiful too! Loved all the bright colours! Even the bathroom was beautiful, they had hand TOWELS rather than paper towels! Beautifully stored and good for the environment too! Staff were lovely also! Oh and their cutlery/plates were beautiful!

Looking forward to coming back and trying their lunch menu!!

Only stopped here for a coffee but it was a good one ! Some good looking baking and cakes available . The dude on the coffee machine with the pony tail fitted right into the funk of this place and made one of the best flat whites I've had in the Tron. It's in a rubbish site but somehow with its recycled furniture and it's hipster ambience combined with great coffee all works ! I'm actually looking forward to popping in again

I've been to HH once or twice before, and this was the best visit. Presented with very good food, and the staff were on top of their customer game. Good work.
Cafe has a funky side to it, with nice colourful decor.
Worth a visit.

If Hazel Hayes food and cafe is anything like the staff who work there it will be fabulous! Sophie and her team mates dealt beautifully with me as we conversed between Dunedin and Hamilton with a booking. They were attentive and caring. I felt that I was important and listened to. Sophie went out of her way to help me. I found this to be refreshing and I definately recommend Hazel Hayes and am looking forward to one day being in the same town to experience the service and food. Well done Hazel Hayes!!!!

This place has a really good reputation and I met a friend for lunch, she had a wrap and a gluten free caramel slice. She said the wrap was AMAZING but didn't finish the slice. I eat vegan and they didn't have anything vegan in the cabinet on the day I visited so offered to make me a 'roast vege salad' with a minimum of fuss. I paid $13.60 for a coffee and the salad, which was cooked pumpkin, rocket and balsamic vinegar. The coffee and staff were nice and I would try it again, but $9(?) for a salad which was essentially lettuce and pumpkin was possibly a tiny bit steep?

coffee is really good, so is the food. Only a couple of whingy points: Their was a fly in the cold food cabinet the first time I went in which put me off the food (although have eaten there before and food tasted great!) and secondly had a socially awkward man serve me at the counter..which is not really a biggie...

Amazing cafe, staff are always friendly and the food is beautiful. I am in love with their fantastic range of cabinet salads that are always packed full of flavor and very innovative. I cannot fault this cafe and always look forward to sharing brekie/lunch with friends there. Mmmm must go for lunch today!

I have just been in Hamilton for the Rugby World Cup. It was so crowded that we wandered down Vic St to Hazel Hayes for Breakfast, WOW what a magnificant brekkie. My friend and I have raved about it since returning to Christchurch. If we had a Cafe like this in Christchurch I would be a regular. Lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff and awesome food, outstanding. "LUCKY HAMILTON"

I went for breakfast for the first time and was instantly impressed. The setting is crisp and clean but homely and comfy. They have done a really thoughtful job on the decor. I love the style. I'm not sure why one person has commented negatively about the coffee and the food as it was flawless and SO tasty and full of 'love' we could not stop talking about it ALL DAY! The meals were not only delicious but they were substantial - and I have a big appetite. Great value for money. The coffee was so good I could have easily had another - if I wasn't so full!! Will definitely be going back - LOVED IT!!

The scones are to die for! My fave is the black bean version. Sampled the tomato chili jam with cumin seed gouda the other day and it was also delicious. Love the mini iced lemon loaves. Miss the Cinnamon Oysters, but understand they weren't a top seller. Also love the Coffee Fudge slice.
Melanie Brown
Great coffee and my husband loved the bacon and eggs. Will definitely be back.

I went there yesterday and was sadly disappointed with the food and the coffee. My half strength mocha was so strong i couldnt drink it. The food was tasteless and the people i brought with me left their meals without eating them. It was a complete waste of money.

Great little cafe. Love the fit out!

Hazel Hayes is amazing! Every thing i have ever tried on the menu has been delicious. All the little touches make it not just nice but WOW! A little twist on all your favourites - caramel slice with cashews! Shut up! Amazing! The muesli with honeycomb - and were those pomegranate seeds? (bursts of delight in my mouth) is highly recommended. The coffee rocks my socks off. And the awesome setting with cool tables and chairs, plus the quaint teaspoons and sugar cubes. Great for kids too - with chalk boards to draw on and toy cars for table numbers! Everything they make is so fresh and full of flavour. You can tell someone is putting their heart and soul into their family owned cafe and it is really paying off. A very talented chef. Plus their catering looks amazing - def will get them to cater my next event! Get in there now!!

Updated review 21.5.16. Sorry breakfast today is just half size of old menu, not well presented, smothered in what looks like chunky cream of mushroom soup.. really dissappointing.. only redeeming feature was that the sausage was tasty I expected better from past experiance here & $22. However I will still come here for coffee...which was good, well made and served quickly.
Due to this I have changed my rating.

Previous review: We enjoyed breakfast here on Saturday, when you first walk in the place feels a lil small but there is ample seating at the recycled timber tables, with their mismatched chairs, the decor has some nice industrial touch's but is not cold or uninviting in fact the opposite is true it has a warm inviting atmosphere. I love the souvenir teaspoons nice touch.
On Saturday I wasn't feeling too good so didn't want to eat much so asked them if they could bring an extra plate so I could have a lil of hubby's hash Breakfast. Well they split the food over two plates and it was presented really nice. Well done guys awesome service! Even though it was half size it was more than enough, the beans where really tasty and Hash ball was wow 'another one please' as we order a breakfast regularly at different cafes its so nice to have something a lil different from the usual bacon and eggs+ The coffee had a lovely rich flavor and very smooth.
The counter contained a good selection of sweet options, a few small savory snack options and a good variety on the menu. A nice place for coffee and cake, brunch or lunch or either a coupe or a group.
