Review Jaipur Indian Restaurant - Hamilton

swati pawar
Amazing humble quick service, kind staff, good food. Their home production Kishna curd was of exceptional. They were very accommodating and considerate to serve us while they were about to close. We were on our way from a holiday. They were very patient and never pushed or hurried though we were the last ones. Very humbled and impressed with their service 👏

My Punjabi-born husband and I spend a lot of time in India, so I'm experienced in Indian food and know what's good and, more importantly, what's not. The food at the Jaipur Indian Restaurant is beautifully spiced (to your liking) and cooked. So, if you're hankering for a curry, go to this restaurant - you will not be disappointed.

Tasty dishes of India. Tried 3 items, and all were good. The taste balance was good. The food is a lot less hot (spicy) than actual Indian food, understandably so, being in NZ. The supplementary chilli paste they served was great and made up for the lack of it in the dish.

Always order from here and it never disappoints. Food tastes excellent and the staff are always happy. Also one of the best garlic naan breads I’ve had.

Nice ambience and interior decor. The service lady is so lovely and humble and did a great job. Food was good. Its just that only chicken Tikka was used all over the curries and briyani which gives us the feeling of eating the same in all dishes. Rest all good, loved the paneer kulcha

Super impressed by the quality of service and food here! Impeccable attention to detail, product recommendations etc. Requested mild for my mum and despite not having the spicy heat the curries were still exceptionally tasty with a great balance of flavours. Would def go again.

Was tastey food as per usual 😋 However was shocked to see on bill later, we were charged $4.00 for a few teapoons of extra mint sauce for our Sizzling platter for two 😳 which never came with enough sauce for two people as it should of to start with 🤔 Curry's were delicious as usual 🥘

Awesome food..all time favourite is Kadhai Chicken and garlic naan…. Prices are a little bit high but after having food you will not bother. Drinks are okayish, not great.

Stopped by for dinner on the way back from Auckland as other friends had suggested this place. The restaurant itself wasn't particularly busy so it was easy for our large group to get a table. They have lots of different dishes on offer including a set meal for 2 or more people. I ended up trying the malai kofta. The curry was quite flavoursome and really tasty. It went well with rice and naan. The kofta itself was soft and creamy but held its shape in the curry. It was a nice balance of flavours and the portions were quite good so it was a really filling dinner. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and tastiness of the dish. A really nice place to stop by for some delicious curry.

Yummy, good food, prices have gone up, but still our favorite Indian restaurant 😋 was disappointed they don't bring Water or Popadoms to the table when you arrive and are seated at your table now but 😔

Very very average food. Ordered food for take away based on the reviews and I have never been so disappointed with ordering Indian food before. I ordered Palak paneer, garlic nan, cheese nan and chicken tandoori samosas.
The Palak paneer was not fresh, they have used the canned spinach, how pathetic. It’s not that hard to distinguish between fresh and canned foods. Even low budget restaurants do better than that.

Chicken tandoori Samosa was nothing special than an ordinary potato and peas samosas with tiny chunks of chicken tandoori mashed in with the potatoes. It was very hard to find the chicken pieces and I wish I was exaggerating while saying that.

Cheese nan and garlic nan again were incredibly disappointing. Cheese nan had some cheese sprinkled on top not “stuffed” as they mention on their website and garlic nan had a few sprinkles of garlic salt.

Overall not ordering from these guys again, waste of money.

Good quantity. Quality is also up to the mark. One of the very few places you'd get real Indian food at in Hamilton.

Jaipur use authentic spices and quality ingredients, their sauces are wonderful and the presentation of their food is a cut above the other Indian Restaurants in Hamilton.

Our family favourite when it comes to Indian food. Beautifully presented authentic Indian cuisine, always delicious & never fails to please. Super friendly staff, always welcoming.

Most consistent curry restaurant in Hamilton- Butter chicken and Lamb Korma yum yum!! worth it- the portions are enough for 2meals and the garlic naan is lovely and fresh too. This is hands down my fav Indian place in Hamilton- 2nd only to Spices in 5 crossroads which is cheaper but not as consistent

We ordered Samosa with Chana for our snack and palak paneer for our main and of course naan. Samosas were disappointing burnt, over cooked. We didn't really enjoy it but their chana was amazingly spicy and tasty! Their curry, rice and naan honestly pretty average. I would still recommend this restaurant to people but just not the best to my liking.

Having read good reviews about their staff being so attentive, but the experience was opposite for us. we had to wave for a few times to actually get their attention when there were 3 staff just standing around and talking. When we walked in no one greeted us either until we actually approached them for a table.
The curries here, like most other Indian restaurants in NZ, are uninspiring. An authentic version will always be the result of several dry and wet spices, and cooked until the onions and other vegetables become tender/blend in. The lazy imitations served in restaurants like these are made by creating a homogeneous curry base and eventually varied by the meat and 1-2 additional ingredients. Even the meat used is usually for another recipe, which in this case was tandoori chicken. The plain rice and breads were OK.

Hilarious side note: Even though this is named Jaipur (city in Rajasthan state) but was playing Punjabi music while I was there. That's like going to a German restaurant and hearing French music being played.

My only suggestion for the staff would be to ask the waiters to not constantly check up on the diners, at least not with the dishonest and unnecessary servitude shown by them.

Food here is a bit more expensive than other Indian restaurants, but so far I really loved all the food that I tried so far except for the raita which seemed a bit sweet for me. I’ve tried garlic naan, beef madras, chicken sawadee and butter chicken. I am keen to try other food from their menu so will definitely order again from them.

Nice ambient and staff...good price..lamb curry is a must to try.
The curry served in a bowl, and good for two persons...
Try also manggo lassi for drink

We were craving for Indian, and were absolutely satisfied. For curries we had the butter chicken, beef korma, and paneer masala. We also ordered plain naan and paneer naan. Both tasted different, nicely charred and were great. Naan is always divine paired with curry; it was no different this time. The curries were all a good size, rice was nicely cooked. My favourite was the butter chicken, partly because I will always be a bit partial to tandoori chicken. The beef korma had some tasty gravy, but the beef was tough to chew. Paneer masala had some really fresh-tasting big chunks paneer. Decor is a bit special with memorabilia of India plastered all over, and staff were friendly and attentive.

Been here a couple of times. The service is good and friendly. I've tried both the lunch and dinner. To be honest, there is a big difference between the two. At dinner time, the rice is fresh, curries are at the perfect consistency and filled with tender meat chunks. It's got a nice kick to it. However lunch is a big step down but I guess worth the 10-11 dollar price range.
Will be visiting again for dinner. One of the best Indian restaurants in Hamilton.

Been here a few times. Quick, friendly staff. And really. Really good curry. 20 for enough food to make 2 meals easy.
Have tried rogan josh, lambadras, chicken tikka masala and butter chicken. All were amazingly good garlic naan was top.
Cannot recomend this place enough. :)

Kind people who are attentive & respectful. A pleasure to dine with.
Very tasty food! They deliver as well & that has been fantastic.
My only complaint is that the Mango Lassi drinks leave a bit to be desired. They are my favourite drink so perhaps I expect to much?
Yes, definitely will return!

Matt
Good solid curry, I enjoyed what I ordered. They were more than happy to deliver to my motel room too. Would definitely order from these guys again

As soon as we walked in we had two waiters greet us and show us to our table. They service was very attentive over the course of the even with the waiters checking in on us frequently to make sure we had everything we needed.
We started with pompadoms which were the only things that slightly let me down. Our main courses were delicious. Extremely creamy and nutty just what I wanted in mine. The peneer was soft but tasty. And the garlic Naan was a huge highlight.
At the end of the meal it was no problem for them to put what i didnt eat into a takeout container. Great meal all up.

Just had our work dinner last night, the interior is quite exquisite (not high end) just has that oriental feel to it :) the food was great; I tried the biryani, korma, butter chicken, tikka and were all great on the pallet. Waiting time is impressive, service is great; very well trained staff would go back again with joy.

BEST indian restaurant in Hamilton, end of story!

Great value for money with the lunch pack deal. Their butter chicken is amazing, just thinking about it makes me want to buy it. Fantastic customer service! Dine in or take away

I have eaten at Jaipur a couple of times, and have recently had takeaway from them too.

They are really friendly, and make you feel welcome in the restaurant. The food is excellent, and when you ask for it hot, it really does come out hot.

I would recommend it!!
Emma
We have been going to Jaipur for years and have never been disappointed with food staff or service. Perfect flavor and not all sauce too - tastiness right across the menu (though never had the seafood stuff - not my thing). Highly recommend!

I am going there from long time since it was opened. The food taste is same, consistent and very delicious. Wonderful food, friendly staff and the lovely music.
I love the Indian food and spicy stuff. The food is absolutely divine and will keep on visiting there and keep up guys!
Sarah
Best Indian food I have had, hands down.

The restaurant is consistently busy which is a good sign... clean and tidy, atmosphere is upbeat, music is authentic but not intrusively loud. Staff are welcoming and professional and service is prompt.

Food is amazing...only place that I've ever been to where the 'levels' of heat that you can order (mild, medium, hot, very hot) are actually adhered to. Butter chicken is a favourite but their chicken korma and tikka masala are divine too. Delicious.

Best Indian food ever. We enjoyed the food and drinks last week at Jaipur Indian Restaurant with our friends. It was amazing night and all of us came very happy.
Really the food was very delicious, especially butter chicken and naan bread was marvellous. The staff was very friendly and we got nice treatment. The food was fresh and the restaurant was very clean and tidy.
We love and will visit again.

As with many other reviews on this site, we found the food superb. Also, when we all got a bit carried away ordering too much food the waiter stopped us and said - "hey, you've got enough, wait till later to order anything else, but I think you'll be satisfied." He was right. What brilliant service.
Service was good, food excellent, good selection of bevvies. We will be back.

Best Indian. Ever.
Nothing more needs to be said.

Having said that, the site says my review is too short.
Jaipur is, after years of searching, my absolute favourite Indian Restaurant. The staff are wonderful, the atmosphere good, without being over the top, and the food is simply magnificent.

We went here because of a coupon in the Entertainment Book. We will definitely be back. Best Indian food we have ever had. Plus the best service in Hamilton! There were heaps of staff on hand to help. We ordered the banquet which was so generous and delicious we couldn't eat it all. The restaurant was clean. Parking was easy. Recommend Recommend Recommend.

Jaipur Walla is an exceptional restaurant, definitely the best Indian food I have ever had! I have been coming here for close to 10 years and the food is always fantastic.

The kashmiri naan (which I have never found any where else) is absolutely incredible, and you can't go past their butter chicken for delicious takeaways which we get on a regular basis. When my partner and I dined in, we had the banquet, which was more than enough for two people. A huge range of tastes and flavours and I liked that they let us customise the heat of the individual curries. When we couldn't eat it all (although we wanted to!) the staff were more than happy to pack up the leftovers for us.

The prices are very reasonable and you get great value for money. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. I love this place!

We dined here this week with our 7 year old. Great friendly service with a large selection of dishes. The meal was great and at a reasonable price. We will be back soon...

Work related evening for a colleague leaving.
A party of 22.
The decor was ok one of the lights were not working. It was a bit warm.
Individual orders taken and also individual billing - which is always a bonus when groups are dining.
Has an extensive menu and also heat levels are negotiable.
My partner and I ordered the Banquet.
The entree consisted of 2 of everything: samosa, onion bhaji, seekh kebab and chicken tikka, presented to the table on a sizzling platter. Accompanied with mint and tamarind sauce.
The main consisted of four dishes which we had as medium.
Butter chicken, Rogan Josh, Beef madras and vegetable korma. These came with naan bread and rice. We also had a side of poppadoms. The selection of dishes worked well together. The heat was mild. They were all very flavour some.
Value for money. We used an entertainment voucher 25% off.

Excellent staff (although a little slow to meet and greet, but it was a busy night). Food is fantastic, and the rice keeps coming, which is helpful when you've decided to be brave and order hotter than usual!

We've been going to Jaipur Walla for years and the food is ALWAYS superb but the last two times (once during winter and once this week) we have been very disapppointed with the lengthy wait for service upon arrival. Also is there there a problem with the aircon unit above the door? The visit in winter was freezing and the aircon was definitely not going (and the door was open). This week's visit (with Hamilton sweltering in 29 degree heat) was uncomfortably hot with the aircon not on once again. The wait this week for a waiter to take orders was 60 minutes, then when our naan arrived they had been placed all together on one big plate. No good for the vegetarian at our table who had ordered plain naan which had been placed somewhere in the pile of non veg naan. The food was very good but the service needs attention!

Really good Dahl, I got it takeaway and it was one of the nicest I've had in a long time. Looked really nice inside as well

Great service, great butter chicken. The best in the world.
Kelly
Fantastic food, really nice flavours - good menu range too. My friends and I had the banquet which was awesome... the entrees were delicious and then we got to share a number of different curries. Good service too.
Katrina
I was really looking forward to eating here but unfortunately I found the food and service apalling. We ordered mild butter chicken to takeaway. When we got home to eat it we found it was WAY too hot. We rang to organise a replacement to which they refused and only offered a discount on our next purchase. There will not be another purchase!! Wish I had stuck to Little India or Masala, neither of which have ever mucked up our order.

The food and service was very good, better than most other indian restaurants to which I have been. Food was quickly served, good portions, and very tasty!

The atmosphere and decor was a little lacking, which is why did not give them full marks.

This resturant is by far the best Indian resturant I have ever been to(and I have been to India). The food is fantastic - I really recommend others venture outside the butter chicken as well - every dish I have tried I would rave about.
Thivasha Naidoo-Melis
By far the best Indian food in Hamilton. Would not bother with trying any other butter chicken but his. Been going there since they opened and have loved every meal. Would be great to have the menu up.

The second best Indian restaurant in NZ (Mantra in Arrowtown gets NO1 award but is expensive). I have eaten here at least 30 times over the past 7 years and never had a bad word to say about the place. I now live in Northland but have to visit for my hot hot chiken Vindaloo every time I am back in Hamilton.

Brilliant service. Excellent food. This is now the only place I go for my Indian food. Definitely worth trying for Eating in or taking out!!

Impressive service by attentive staff and a real personal touch from the owner is reason enough to try this restaurant for a fresh dining experience. Having sampled 5 other Indian cuisine establishments in this town, I have now settled on this one as a new favourite for authentic, tasty dishes and their ability not to over-complicate the flavours. Although it may not match others for decor in Hamilton, I would recommend them for any occasion. Their lunch menu is always a popular choice for my staff. That's 4 stars for me.

Great Indian restaurant in Hamilton, Would Recommend.

Best Indian Restaurant I can find in NZ. Food is perfect, service excellent, staff friendly. Well worth the experience, and repeat dining :) (It would help if menumania.co.nz could get the menu working though!!)

Currently our favourite Indian restaurant in town. I have had better Indian in Wellington and Auckland, but the best in the Tron in my opinion. Chicken korma and tikka masala are our favourites. I wish they had a children's menu, can get a bit pricey when you have to buy mains for children...consistently good service.
Radhika
Being a vegetarian, one is not spoilt for choices, but this restaurant should definitely be in people's first choice with regards to veg food. There is no dearth of veg food, I especially love the Chana Masala, with the peas really nicely cooked and delectable. The ambiance is pleasing to the eyes and the service is also commendable. Overall, it is a must visit for people looking to eat authentic Indian food.
