Review French Tart Cafe - Hamilton

Had walked past this place a couple of times during the lockdown and promised myself I would go and try it out when it opened. The cafe itself is quite small. They are also very popular so I was lucky to get a seat. I ordered brunch, and found the staff really friendly and helpful. I ordered granola and a coffee and both were good. I liked the feel of the cafe, it was well decorated and tidy. Would definitely come back.

Sat down for breakfast for 3. Loved the vibe, coffee and food. I highly recommend the avocado on toast. I really enjoy that you can also food in half portions. Food (5/5) Excellent food, great portion for the cost. Our option to swap fried eggs to poached was missed but didn't take from the food. Service (3/5) Coffee served was mixed up. The server seemed confused what coffee was what when it reached the table. We ended up doing a swap-a-roo once sips had been taken. Atmosphere (4/5) We sat in the back outdoor area. Lovely area and you can still hear the bustle from the main cafe area. Soft music playing would really make the space a 5/5.

Great little place. I was impressed by the prices on their menu for small bites like eggs on toast etc, will visit again to try these out. Lovely cabinet slices, scones, etc. And beautiful coffee. Nice options to chill outside or sit indoors.

Good little cafe with a covered outdoor area at the back. Good pricing and atmosphere and it was nice that there is an option for smaller breakfast options such as a 1/2 Eggs Benny.

Good service, food and coffee. Not comfortably set up for wheelchair bound customers but the staff were very accommodating and cheerful which made the experience an enjoyable one.

Thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast at French TartCafé in Hamilton.I had a flate white & eggs on toast, both which were delicious, well presented, and good value for money. I recommend giving this café a visit if you are in Hamilton it was a lovely vibe sitting outside even inside too 😋😋

Nice place to walk to and grab a coffee! They use Fixation coffee last time I was there which is an amazing roast from BOP which will make you're coffee a decent one and standout with other players in Hamilton. Definitely my one of my go to places for coffee on this side of town or when I'm crossing the bridge!

Absolutely delicious. French toast was so good i didnt get to take a photo so yummy!!! We also ordered a brownie very yummy i loved the chunks of chocolate in it and the berry purée was the perfect touch. Maybe need less cream but overall was really yum. The iced chocolate was average. And hot chocolate was ok too

Amazing award winning coffee, really good. Friendly staff. And the dessert was really yum. It highly lures me to try the breakfast set there next time. Strongly recommend the coffee if u are on the way to work, just park outside and grab a coffee and go

Came for breakfast over the weekend and really enjoyed the bagel I had with cream cheese, pesto, tomato and bacon! Would definitely come back for that. The coffee was also great. There isn't a huge amount of seating but the seating at the back of the restaurant was really lovely (a lot cooler than inside). So overall good experience!

Many thanks for the wonderful cups of coffee I have had at your cafe. I have been visiting the French Tart for around eight years and I love it. One of the best things about it is that the coffee is always great. The food is beautiful too with a really unique and nice range of cabinet food or blackboard menu to choose from. It has a quaint and relaxing atmosphere which is really nice for a bit of me time with a magazine or a catch up with a friend. Keep doing what you're doing guys. Thanks Dawn.

Came here for my birthday a few years ago! Decor is beautiful with its mini courtyard! Food was tasty! Can't quite remember prices though(it was a present!). Cute little cafe with lovely food, can't complain :)

Let's start by saying I'm fairly sure this place wins the Hamilton prize for the most expensive coffee at $5.50 and that was certainly not a bowl. It's cabinet food looked good but expensive compared to some very good cafes in the Tron. The actual building is certainly nothing to write home about in regards ambience or set up but it's a great little location by the Fairfield bridge. The flat white was reasonably average. Be warned , don't sit on the table by the front door.....

2.10pm, arrived at the cafe and it's all packed up and the 2 young girls say "sorry we are closed" and then giggled.
Internet says they close at 3pm and so does the bloody sign on their door.
Definitely don't waste your time driving here.

This is currently my favorite Hamilton cafe. The menu is original and the food is fantastic, with some really great cabinet items. The coffee is consistently good and the staff are always willing to help. It's definitely worth checking out if you haven’t been.

We went there for lunch on a weekday. My husband really enjoyed his corn fritters, in fact that was why we chose the place. I ordered eggs benedict with salmon but the salmon was very salty. I would go back but I would ask if they can make the salmon less salty or order something else.

I have been wanting to go to the French Tart Cafe for a few years now since they had a good review in the Waikato Times, so finally I got to go today, unfortunately we had visitors and had to wait until they had gone, I looked on MenuMania and it said closing was at 3pm, we got there at 2.10pm and the girl was outside packing up the table and chairs, and said they were closing at 2.30 and hinted we weren't welcome to go in and order, even though it was still 20mins until her 2.30 closing time.
If you advertise you shut at 3pm, then you should shut at 3pm.
I was not happy as I live in Cambridge, and work all week, so not just a stroll down the street when it suits.

This place is just down the road, so that would be one reason why we went there three times in the long weekend - must have something going for it eh?

The service is friendly and efficient. The premises are a bit small, but they have made the best of a small area. Cosy you may say.

The food is lovely. Microwave used on pastry's which is not usually a good mix. Salads terrific. Coffee very good.

Worth checking out.

Arrived at 1.50 just wanted a coffee and something savory asked if they did toasted sandwiches No was the reply and we close at 2.30. Got something from the cabinet and as I was paying was once again reminded that you would be closing at 2.30. Coffee was GREAT!!! Next thing I know each table is approached and told we are closing.
I have been in the hospitality industry for close on 30 years and found this to be very off putting, as I would have loved another GREAT!!! Coffee.

Lovely food, and great coffee, staff who are friendly and smile, great atmosphere. What more could you want?!

Delicious for brunch, have had the french toast and the eggs benedict and both are amazing.. and pretty cheap too... need to go again to test out some of the cabinet food as it always looks so yummy. Good coffees and friendly staff. Often busy but that seem to effect the speed of service... will certainly be returning.

Had lunch here today with a friend. Everything in the food cabinet looked appetising. I chose a mushroom & bacon pie which was delicious. It was very hard to choose! Excellent coffee. Lots of easy free parking which I always appreciate. Friendly staff. Fair prices. What more can I say. A good spot for lunch or a coffee.
Nona
Very nice cafe, really good coffee, really good fish pie and staff who know how to smile at their customers!

Went to French Tart this morning for coffee with the Grandies, we were greeted as we entered and where told they would be with us in a moment and they where. We ordered a Ginger crunch & flat white for Hubby- ( "it was good- nice balance of ginger and the oats in the base where actually crunchy") a yogurt and onion scone and Chocolate brownie for the grandies to share which where served halved on separate plates for the kids, which was very helpful. I enjoyed a Latte and a Yogurt and Onions scone myself, which was served with a ample supply of butter, warm, moist and flavorsome.
While the cafe is on the small side it didn't feel cramped and its laid out well with different seating areas, we sat out in the court yard which is light, airy and the music was at a pleasant level. The cafe appeared clean and the staff were obviously making a concerted effort to provide friendly service, over all I think they pulled it off well....
