Quality is fine but quantity small.. 28$ for salmon& teriyaki set not enough… Rice around 80-100g? After finished a set lunch my husband grabbed Mc D for extra

Enjoyed lunch here! Greeted by lovely staff. Arrived right on opening time hehe Was soooo yummy and delicious!🥰 Had the shrimp and octopus balls, edamame beans, fried squid and the lunch box! We also had the teriaki beef box which the beef was amazingly good too.. didnt take a pic sorry. Would definitely recommend this place 😍👌🏽

I regularly come to this place and my goodness this place never ceases to amaze me. The service is always outstanding, food is definitely so delicious as always & atmosphere is just superb. Very welcoming. I cannot even find one fault when I come here at all which is so hard for me to say because you just feel so welcomed. The staff (especially the owner) will go over and above to make you feel at ease particularly when you wanna try different meals on the menu. Meals are decently priced not too expensive nor too cheap & quality is way above standard. It’s a really popular place to go for a meal so you better get in quick otherwise you will miss out on the experience this place offers. Booking is super easy if you have a crowd with you but overall, by far, the most best place to come to in Hamilton if you want to try authentic Japanese cuisine. Thank you very much i Japanese Cafe! The staff are friendly and the food is very good. The teriyaki chicken had a savory smell and was even more delicious.

Had the salmon sashimi with teriyaki and the chicken katsu with beef curry. The former was a bit heavy on the salt (MSG or too much soy sauce maybe?), While the latter was not bad with low amount of breading seen on the katsu (points for using thigh meat!) Service was nice!

Some of the best food out! Always busy which is a great sign! Love their lunch box option.

Looking for Lunch location while visiting Hamilton? Then you should definitely consider this Cafe. We ordered chicken curry and Teriyaki and tempura set. Both comes with salad and miso soup. Curry added with beef and make it taste unique. Tempura were nicely done and teriyaki chicken was nicely grilled.

One of Hamiltons hidden gems. Tucked away on victoria street lies I Japanese cafe. <br/><br/>Chose the gyoza which are massive and pretty tasty.<br/><br/>Main was the karaage yakasoba. My goto for this place perfectly fried chicken on noodles. Try it out.<br/><br/>Food is fast and staff are lovely

Our lunch was incredible. The food was very tasty, beautiful interesting presentation, the restaurant clean, comfortable and welcoming. The service was helpful friendly and attentive. Reasonably priced, my mum and I are very grateful for our lovely dining experience. Thank you

This is a Japanese restaurant that doesn’t have the decor to go with the very solid food or the rather high price tag. <br/>My unagi don came out on a traditional wooden flat tray inside a lacquered box. It is obvious the chef have taken care in preparation of my meal well, but not overly so. I can’t help but feel it should be a few dollars cheaper than what I paid, but it was a very enjoyable lunch nevertheless.<br/>It is rather busy, but the wait time is reasonable. <br/>Food - 7/10<br/>Decor - 5/0<br/>Price - 5/10

Excellent quality of foods for lunch. This restaurant is always busy between 12 pm and 1 pm. So booking a table may be necessary. Highly recommend for informal dining with family and friends.

Good place for lunch. I usually get the chicken or salmon donburi. Its delicious and good portion of food. The atmosphere is nice. Will come back again to try something else from the menu.

I Japanese is always a go to option for lunch when I visit the fam in Hamilton. Their menu is pretty affordable and the quality never wavers.<br/><br/>I ordered salmon sashimi with a side of rice. It was surprising how much salmon I received for $12 having ordered the smallest platter. It was fresh and well presented with a serving of soy sauce and Wasabi as condiments.<br/><br/>We also ordered their classic teriyaki chicken donburi which is so worth it for the price and filling. They don't skimp on meat, that's for sure.<br/><br/>We also got the teriyaki tofu set, a lovely combo set with buttery tofu, rice, salad and a potato croquette. The tofu has a wonderful buttery glaze on it and sizzles away when you receive it so you have time to eat the other parts of the dish as it cools.<br/><br/>We also got the deep fried tofu side and renkon chips to complement our choices. Overall, I highly recommend coming here if you are looking for a good quality, clean and satisfying meal. It gets very busy during lunchtime so it's good to call and reserve seats.

Great food, portion is abit small and staffing could be better 😛 however staff are really polite. Would recommend this place but would need to call to book a table first.

Really enjoyed my terryaki chicken!! Very well marinated chicken, and taste like good cut of chicken! Good sitting, I got extra terryaki as advised to get when a bit more hungrier than usual. Way better than katsubi donburi that kind of tastes artificial to me. Really enjoyed my miso soup as well

very surprised food quality. authentic teriyaki beef and chicken. the homemade dumpling is giant and yummy. The eel is fresh and well cooked. I will go.to.this restaurant when I go to Hamilton.again.

Absolutely love this place! The Chicken Teryaki Donburi and miso soup is absolutely delicious. Been here many many times and the food is always perfect as expected. Although the service is a bit slow most times, even when I would ring and order 10 mins before, the service still takes the amount of time if I were to order it there. But other then that, I think this place is amazing.

Best Japanese restaurant in town!! Great food, great price, great value. The only drawback is opening hours... only do lunches and close on Sunday...

My boyfriend and I were looking for a Japanese restaurant yesterday and I'm so glad we stumbled upon this hidden gem! After reading the reviews, I tried their teriyaki chicken donburi for only $11 and was not disappointed at all. So flavourful and the serving size is massive for the amount you pay! My boyfriend tried the Double Salmon set for $22 and we both loved it- the sashimi serving size is the biggest I've seen compared to other Japanese restaurants, and the grilled teriyaki salmon was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Customer service was great too. Will definitely come back and bring my whole family! Too bad they aren't open for dinner time.

Authentic Japanese food, teriyaki chicken donburi is one of the best. Good value for money as well. Very friendly service. Highly recommended.

This is my family's favourite place to eat for lunch! We were so sad when they closed for a while and so happy they opened a new store! Their donburi is reasonably priced and so much food! The meat is always cooked to perfection and just enough sauce for the meal but not too much. We love coming here as a family!

My Favourite Japanese restaurant in town! It sucks they are only open 11am to 4pm so I only manage to make it here when I've got a day off work, 100% recommend the Teriyaki Chicken! The staff are lovely and helpful. If you love Japanese food then I Japanese Cafe is a must!!

Absolutely LOVE IJAP!!! have since it was on Collingwood st. There Donburi is the best I've tasted in the country and the cheapest. I'm going to miss this place when i move to Perth, please open up a store in Perth so i can continue to get my fix over there :)

Good value for money. Food is nice. Cosy little place which is unfortunately (at the time of writing) still being affected by smell from the burnt-down charred restaurant next door.
