Review Three Leg Frog - Hamilton

Great service, best Chinese food in Hamilton & very nice Atmosphere. Former New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, Hamilton city mayor and some very famous Chinese movie & singer stars who has been there and enjoyed their food and experience.

I rang to make a booking and the woman on the phone answered with "Hello" and nothing more. Kind of unprofessional. But once we got there the service was great and the place looks great from the inside. The chicken hot pot was possibly the most delicious Chinese meal I've ever tasted. Phenominal. I will definitely be back to have it again

Beautiful food at a very reasonable price. The staff are also lovely. It want too spicy; actually we requested abs received further chilli. We loved the pork bun and dumplings in hour and spicy soup.

Our party of 7 had dinner last Saturday. The food was amazingly good. Service was good. We did have to wait a while, maybe because the food we ordered required longer cooking time. But the food was great so it was worth the waiting.

Pleasantly surprised by the incredibly delicious menu!!! Staff were super friendly and helpful. The food came out at a nice pace. Everyone left feeling satisfied. Thrilled to dine out somewhere different.

The sweet and sour pork is awesome. I wouldn't try the tap beer again though. The waitress had the coolest red heels.

Been there a couple of times and the food is very lovely. -1 star just for the poor attitude of the manager.

Food is great but Service could have been better

Always awesome! Service needs a little work but I think that's just because they're always busy
Sam Tsai
Good food, good staff and great space for dinning with friends!

Real authentic Chinese food. Similar to what I had in China

This place has nice food and good price. But it's not as good as it use to be few years ago. The portions use to be bigger and there use to be more fish dish options.

It’s gorgeous & friendly here, the food is delicious, the menu extensive (& interesting). It’s different how all the meals don’t cone out together, hence the 4*. My husband was well into his dinner before any other food arrived, didn’t really bother us on this occasion though. 😊😊😊

The food was amazing! Everything on the menu was great and many options to choose from. The staff however, were not that great. They didn't really seem to care about the customers nor did they make us feel welcomed. They didn't seem too interested in serving any of the customers there. That's the only and the biggest downside to this restaurant. The staff will make you feel unwelcomed!

Very good restaurant. Food was very nice and fresh, Great ambiance. Staff was doing OK not very friendly or no information given to us about specials or specialty.

Staff not very helpful when ordering food the food was rather generic and way too much dried chilly, like big chunks of dried chilly a few people at the table had chunks of dried chilly stuck in their throat whilst eating. Food come out fast though but didn't taste all that nice had alot better. Toilets were also rather dirty. Probably would not return.

Arguably one of the best Chinese restaurant in hamilton. The effandi lamb ribs and county hand shredded salad and dough drop soup are my favourites but there are lots of other dishes I haven't tried

Westernized Chinese food. We came with a large group of friends for a weekday dinner - the first thing we noticed was that there was only one large round table with a lazy susan in the entire restaurant, and that table was taken. Chinese food is typically shared with the entire table, which makes a lazy susan or at least a round table essential for sharing the dishes if you have a large group; we had to pass the dishes around, which wasn't very easy with a rectangular table.

The second thing we noticed was that, despite the fact that there were only two other tables waiting to be served, our entrees took more than 30 minutes to arrive, and our mains took another 30 minutes after that (we were starving by the time the entrees arrived and polished them off in about 10 minutes, so they were not waiting for us). To be fair, they did warn us ahead of time that the fish we ordered takes 30 min to cook, but that still does not add up to 1 hr, and we had specifically said that everything else could be served first and the fish brought out when it was cooked.

The rice took an additional 10 min after the mains to be served to everyone, and one of us did not receive her portion even though we had asked for rice for everyone. The portions were tiny, and we had to order several extra mains and rice plates due to the unexpectedly small sizes.

That all being said.... the mains were pretty decent, flavorful and of reasonable quality. But that isn't nearly enough to make up for everything else IMO, and you could get a better meal at Sichuan or Canton Hong Kong Restaurant for half the price, and served in a fraction of the time.

Excellent experience and a authentic Chinese menu. The staff are welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommend any of the meals here, but be cautious of asking for extra spicy as it really IS spicy. Salted Karamel

After hearing good things about three leg frog I decided to tàke my wife out for dinner here, there have been a few posts regarding how busy it's been so was a little hesitant being a Friday night, however there was only a table of four inside , we were greeted straight away, and seated quickly, the decor inside is very traditional and looked amazing, we ordered some starters "won tons & honey chicken" this was amazing!! Sizzling hot and very tasty, my wife ordered the salt and pepper chicken and myself the sweet and sour pork, hands down the best Chinese meal we have ever had, everything just went so well together and best of all didn't have that yucky after fell of eating takeaway Chinese ,this is all cooked with no MSG here, we will defiantly be returning!

Recently went for a meal with 3 friends. The restaurant was well set out, the staff were friendly, helpful and well presented. 3 entrees between 4 people were ample. The main meal was large enough to have shared, in fact 3 meals would have sufficed for the 4 of us. All the meals were very tasty, well presented and more than sufficient. Dessert was not an option (couldn't fit it in). Thank you for your wonderful restaurant, I have recommended to many already.

We went to Three Leg Frog for a birthday party. We had the whole restaurant for party of 40. The meal was amazing. Tasty fresh and lots of variety. The cost was very reasonable great value for money. The staff were lovely, very polite and obliging. As a visitor to Hamilton I would certainly recommend it

Went here on Sunday night after having it recommend to us by a friend and was extremely let down.
When we were shown to our seat it was up right against the wall leaving myself steering into the wall with my partner to my right. What an awkward start.
When we ordered there was only two other tables in the restaurant. We ordered entrees of spring rolls and rock prawns. After waiting 20mins for them to come out we both started getting a little anxious. The table of four beside us had ordered just before us and were just finishing their entrees whilst we were still waiting for ours. By this stage another four tables had come in and another 10 mins past by. We noticed one of the new tables had got their entrees whilst we were still waiting for ours. And the table of four were now onto mains. Not being very happy at all my partner decided to go up and ask where our food was after now waiting 40mins for our entrees, sure enough our docket was missed. When the food eventually arrived it was tasty. Mains followed 15-20mins after. We never got offered any new drinks or a water top up. Food tasted ok, nothing to rave about and wanting to go back. And to top of off there was a hair in my salad. When mentioned to staff he just stood their stunned about knowing what to do. It would have been nice getting a free drink or desert after all the bad stuff that had happened. overall extremely let down would not recommend to anyone and will not be returning.

We also took a chance.....and failed.
The wine glass was tiny...with a long black stem...a little tacky, but i thought ...how bad could this get...
Service was lovely, atmosphere was good, but sorry guys, your mains let you down. I have NEVER been to an Asian restaurant and been served pork in sweet/sour sauce with mashed potatoes AND a side of rice.
The starters of wontons and spring rolls were lovely, and we should have stopped there.

This place was fantastic.
We walked in off the street just before the dinner rush, they seated us. The menu is so diverse and the food was amazing.
The flavors were strong and just beautiful.
A great price range as well. We had the duck, lucky last, it was beyond anything we expected.
All the food was brilliant, not a single complaint, service was flawless.
I would recommend to anyone without hesitation.
And considering my partner was in a Burger and Fries mood, he was blown away as well.
Top of our list for going out.

A nice warm restaurant to go to in the winter with an open fire. Food and atmosphere is satisfactory, although the food differed slightly to what we expected it to be, ie: ingredients were missing etc.

We were over charged, which I had to question twice, but they rectified in the end.

A good place to go for moderately priced quick Chinese meal.

My family and I have enjoyed a number of meals at the Three Leg Frog Restaurant. The meals arrive at the table hot and very tasty.
They cater for the people's individual 'spice' tolerance which is great. The atmosphere has always been warm and friendly and the staff wanting to make our dining experience memorable. We have recommended to all our friends.

I went to this restaurant with 3 other girls as you do on a girls night out . The staff were all lovely and the atmosphere was amazing. The meals all came out really quickly and were delicious. And even if you think you cannot fit in desert you have to - the rich chocolate cake with mascarpone was divine and the white chocolate cheesecake with raspberry was heavenly. We have all decided that we will go back and that we would recommend Three Leg Frog to other people.
Donny
Great tasting food with delicious flavours. Totally different from other Chinese restaurants. The food was extremely spicy and hot just like we asked for. Not the usual boring kiwi hot which isn't hot at all. Will be going there again.

OMG, my partner had tired legs from when we walked around checking which restaurant to eat at. Furnace was very busy and full & Keystone was fairly full and far too noisy. I decided to just go to Three Leg Frog and we walked into it not realising it's actually a Western form of Chinese Restaurant.
So we ordered and the Steiny Pure tasted nice and then the Chicken Satay sticks were hot but nice except for too much MSG in the peanut sauce. The staff were helpful and polite all during the service.
Finally we got our mains but immediately I said to my partner 'where are the Green & Red Capsicum that are meant to be in that dish?' so we asked that of the waitress. They could remake the dish with Green Capsicum or else give us it for half price of the $21 original value so we accepted the discount as preferred.
My $26 main Spicy Lamb in a Garlic Jus with Breadcrumbs and Onions was a basket of battered meat where it was more batter than meat and most pieces of meat you could clearly taste the animal fat in it. I went up to pay for the meal and to complain about my poor main. They must think we are too ignorant to know tastes of meat as the waitress tried to tell me the meat is always carefully trimmed so no fat would be on it and that the taste was probably the starch that mixed with oils etc. I'm not that dumb as I grew up on a farm where we ate lots of REAL meat and I know it's no use complaining more to someone that can't be honest by trying to deny facts by use of lies. I felt totally let down and what was a poor meal was made worse by such bad final service of a senior staff member at the till.
We got a card where once we buy 5 meals within 6 months we could get a free beer or glass of wine. Wow how good when the meals here are a lot more expensive yet of a much poorer quality than most of the other Chinese restaurants around town. This is why you will never see Asian families dining at that restaurant.
Kaylene
I'm sure their food is delightful - if you can get in. We made a reservation for four on what turned out to be a busy Friday night, and when we turned up, no one seemed to know who we were, despite the fact one of us had ordered the special duck, of which they only prepare 2 per night. They were jam packed and there was no spare tables for four, although they had larger tables with only two people sitting at them and spare two-seaters. We left, thinking it just wasn't meant to be, and we won't hurry back.

By far the best "Asian" style restaurant in Hamilton. How far? By streets.

The menu is chock full of wonderful, tasty, mouth watering dishes.

The atmosphere is electric, the wait staff are friendly and accommodating and the food is simply FANTASTIC.

One little point that they could tidy up on a little is when a wine waitress delivers a bottle of wine to your table they shouldn't just show it to you and then place it, unopened, on the table and walk off. Just need to brush up on that a little I think. Not worth downgrading their stars though as it was a 5-star experience otherwise. We will definitely go back again and again.

Wow.....

My Wife and I went to the 3 Leg Frog for Lunch last Sunday 29th April, can't say enough about it. Service was great, helpful, pleasant. Food was to die for, best Asian food we have had since we were in Vietnam a couple of years ago. We will be going back and are going to find it hard to look beyond the excellent dishes we both had on our first visit.

Beautiful food without a doubt, shame however that staff seemingly attempt to get you intoxicated, only makes you wonder why.

Coming into the restaurant I was assisted but was I ask if I may sit it went well.
I was carefully attended to and the meals was awesome, chicken succulent & tender, a meal to rave about which I did not expect.
One thing that bothered me was the fly/s constant around while having the meal.
I will recommend this place any time and rate it quite high, very calm and relaxing venue!

Took a gamble and it did not pay off!
The service was below poor and the food was very mediocre. It took 35 mins for our entree to come out and there was only 4 other people in the restaurant. It took another 45 mins for our mains to come! Food was bland lacking authentic flavour. The waitress was too busy talking to other staff instead of asking if we would like another drink!!
Would not recommend at all

This was a shot in the dark that really paid off. We chose it with little thought but truly enjoyed the experience. The service was excellent, the food was amazing and the ambiance allows for fine but relaxed dinning. I intend on coming back for sure.

Great food, excellent service! Great to learn about the culture they are all extremely welcoming & polite. The platters are beautiful, huge in size and bursting with flavour! You must stop in and try on your way past! And to all those who assume MSG is used.. You are so wrong!!! Will definitely be back. It's Chinese with a European twist so I definitely understand the mashed Potato :)
