Review Royale Indian Restaurant - Hamilton

Nice family restaurant. Food is also delicious. The takeaway rate is $1 cheaper than dine-in. Love the Garlic Cheese Naan. I love Paneer Kadai curry here. Really amazing. All the time taste is the same.

One of the best Indian restaurants in Hamilton. Nice ambiance, clean and neat, tasty food and beverages including alcohol.

I have dined in here many times and I always come back because the food is amazing. So good that I decided to use Royale Indian to cater an event I was hosting at work. The team at Royale Indian were amazing and super accomodating. They delivered $380 worth of food to my workplace and they were really easy to work with - I have absolutely no complaints. I won’t attempt to spell the name of the gentleman who served me, but special shout out to him! He was amazing. Thanks again team, everyone at work loved the food!

Friendly staff which is one reason I will go back again.. food was good as well a little pricy, Atmosphere in terms of black chairs and the ambience needs a change..

We have been visiting this restaurant for a while now and every time the food and customer service are top-notch. Special shout out to Sandeep for his good customer service.

This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Hamilton. I have had takeaways and dine in many times and enjoy having both. I enjoying dining in as the atmosphere is relaxed and the service is great. The prices are also very reasonable and good value. The curries and the food are very authentic and are very delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Value for money. Great for the students living near the university to come for Indian. Amazingly delicious, fast and friendly service. Will always come here for Indian food when I'm visiting Hamilton. Have not been disappointed with the quality and deliciousness of the food.

We went a few times for lunch and dinner. The place is nice and clean, has a lot of pics that we like, the food is amazing, and the service is great. We tried lamb korma, butter chicken, mango chicken, Kashmir lamb, and Bhona chicken.

Haven't dined in yet, but will eventually, the medium butter chicken is sooo delicious, I always want to order something else but just can't give up on the butter chicken 😆😆
Adrienne Harris
Fantastic meal with great service by Sandeep. Will definitely dine in again.

I can't comment on service and atmosphere but this has become our go to Indian restaurant on uber eats! It never disappoints!

Best place for Indian cuisine in Hamilton - never had a bad experience. Staff are lovely and food is amazing - lots of vegetarian options and almost everything is gluten free. *** massive bonus is that the staff here are more than happy for customers to bring in their own containers to reduce waste too - very thankful that it’s easy to be a little more green with our takeaway options!
Leonie
Hit and miss. Sometimes the food is amazing but at other times it’s tasted rank (I usually get Saag). When they’re busy the naan gets smaller and smaller. But overall great value for money and when it’s good it’s to die for

The best value for money. Great quantity and quality too. My favourite is the daal palak.

The go to place for amazing South Indian dosas, Vada sambhar and the chettinad style chicken and other dishes

Many vegetarian options and food was served with a friendly smile and great prices and staff

Worst place on earth to go in. Service is Sh*T. I ordered one masala dosa. They took 20 minutes to make that. When I started to eat the sambhar was not warm enough, I asked to bring extra sambhar he took 10 minutes to get it and when I got that, it was even colder than the one on my plate.

My friend order same he got the dosa and funny part was there was no sambhar at all with it Lol. Why would you even bring the dosa if you have to bring sambhar later on dumba**.

In that whole process the dosa when cold, we informed the manager he said we will replace it for you, but it will take 25-30 min, Like seriously. After all that has happend he wanted to take 25 min for a dosa which can be cooked in like 5-10 min max. Ok we were hungry, we said alright.

Also we have ordered a lot of food to take away and have it later. that was i guess preparing while all of that is hapening.

Alright my friend wanted to have chiken dosa instead for masala dosa and of course we would pay the difference. So he went to the manager he said if its gonna take 25 min can you put chichken instead of masala. He said NO. This can not be done, he said if its gonna take that long you just have to change the filling. He said the filling is already in the dosa, then he was like if its in the dosa, why would it take 25 min. He said.. no we cant do it and it will take 25 min.

That was it, we went and cancelled the whole order including our previous order and the dosa and left. After being hungry for 2 hours this sh*t service. not gonna recommed this to anyone.

It the owner is reading this- You gotta fire you manager coz he is stupid and racist. If you want you restaurant to work you need to take him out

Good food, nice staff, abit long for the wait times, but otherwise always nice too eat from here. Thanks a million staff @ Royale. Would recommend their vege dishes. Lovely flavour. And naan is always warm and yummy.

So visited this place some days back. This place has got very bright ambience with the whole red colour interiors which gives this place a shaddy look for me. Coming to service, the food came quickly and we were really happy with the service as we were feeling hungry. On to the food then, we ordered mango chicken, garlic naan, kadhai paneer, mango kulfi and gulab jamun. I loved the taste of mango chicken, it had that sweet taste of mango which made the curry taste quite good with garlic naan. The kadhai paneer was usual, nothing too great. Mango kulfi and gulab jamun were also just about ok. So, overall the food was just about average. Mango chicken was the one dish that stood out and is definitely a must order. I though wish they change the interiors a bit because it was too flashy.

We drove around Hamilton on new years day looking for an Indian restaurant and came across Royale Indian. I'm so glad we did because it was so tasty. The food came out fairly quick. Restaurant was clean and had air conditioning. Parking was easy. Would visit again.

Absolutely disgusting food. I had to throw most of it away. Ordered food for home delivery few days ago.Their cauliflower 65 was just normal gobhi pakora with no taste to it, their vegetable uttapam was also tasteless and dry. Their red chutney was full of food color and I can make better sambhar then their chef (and my sambhar sucks). Never ordering from here again.

Our first impression was that it was just a takeaway, however we were soon taken around the corner to the hidden table area.
We ordered the butter chicken and chicken korma with a garlic and garlic and cheese naan, we also tried the lamb samosa.
It took a while for the waiter to serve us however the food came out fast.
The samosa was bland and both the curries were average, the naans were pretty decent however.
The Service seemed abit unorganized and rushed and there were alot of tables that had leftover dishes on them.
Overall it seems like a good fast takeaway dinner but didnt wow us like the other comments suggest.
Decent restaurant but pathetic customer service skills. They decided to literally dump my order in the garbage because I was 10 minutes late for pickup. Absolute joke.
Manager on duty (a female at the time) was unwilling to order a refund or prepare another order for me. Did they expect their customer to just show up and leave empty handed?

Ordered butter chicken, lamb briyani, cheese naan and mango lass. Overall it was good. Fast service and tasty food. The cheese naan was a bit oily to our liking but the others are spot on ! Will definitely come again.
Melissa Visey-Mesina
For a few weeks, I’ve been looking forward to visiting this place because it was recommended by some colleagues. I ordered butter chicken, cheese and garlic naan, beef madras, chicken jalfrezi and raita. The naan was good, but the raita seemed watery/ too thin consistency. The butter chicken was ok. The beef madras was a bit on the salty side and the jalfrezi was average for me. I had better madras and jalfrezi from other places before.
Jay
I had the Chicken Chettinad and it was amazing! Great portions and service. Boss is awesome =) Really recommend this place for Indian any day and any night. Will definitely come back with my friends! Thank you

Really friendly stuff and awesome food. Quite enjoy every time, except the smell sticks to my clothes when leaving:( but still highly recommend for everyone who is price conscious because the lunch special is excellent
Nika Edgar-Brewer
I was really happy with Royale Indian, the service was fast, friendly and way above kind. The food was delicious, hot, fresh, fragrant and ready in good time. The price for our whole evening was very affordable and we were given a small discount and a free dessert to try for educational purposes. I would absolutely recommend this establishment.

Quality of service has gone downhill from taking order properly to service with no smile. Food however still remains of good quality with value for money

Dined in tonight with my boyfriend we ordered the Royale non vegetarian platter the food was yummy and fresh I love that we got to sample different curries so I didn't have to commit to my standard butter chicken the flavours were lovely but the best part about this place and the reason I've given a 5 is because of the service every staff member was so attentive and polite it's really appreciated
Deependra Rathore
Great place for family get together. Good on taste & service and prices are very affordable. The $10 lunch is a must have. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Poor Poor Poor, is all I can say, I bought a GRABONE take away voucher for two curries rice and naan, what I got was one rice to share,2 naans and two tubs of different curry sauces. I counted in both curries the meat were 5 pieces each and fulled a table spoon. Come on guys don't sell vouchers as a way to rip people off. Sell them so people would enjoy your food and come back. Instead i will stay clear of this place that is for sure. The worst thing of all was the food actually tasted OK, but i felt cheated and I definitely did not get what I paid for even if you only use the face value of the voucher. Very very dissapointing

Two thumbs up and a hi five!

I used to be a regular here when I lived in Hamilton a few years ago - the food was consistently delicious, staff were nice and you got great value for money. I returned here for lunch on a visit to Hamilton and was elated to find that nothing had changed.

The food was exquisitely spiced with great flavour. The portion sizes were large, rice was included with the curry and their naan wasn't too oily. Keep up the good work!

This place was really nice when it started several years ago. The food was great, however it has deteriorated alarmingly over the last few years, and now is a mere shadow of what it used to be. The good reviews recently written by people have no clue what Indian food is supposed to taste like. It is located in a rough area which is why it probably gets all the cheap crowd that has made it survive for so long.

Royale is hard to beat for the price. They have a broad range of dishes, all of which are well executed and have distinct flavour profiles. The service is good, and the food is usually served within 10-20 minutes of ordering. We go there at least once every few months, and it's never been a disappointment.

The best Indian in town. I love the lunch deals for $10 which get you everything. The Naan is so tasty and the service is really friendly. This is a regular eating place for me and my flatmates. So happy it's like 300m away from us
James
The best and most authentic chicken tikka masala in Hamilton by a long shot. Good value for money and great service. If you enjoy the heat be sure to request "Indian hot".
Chin Jun
We have been regular customer for a few years. We have been disappointed with their poor staff attitude. Used to be better. Otherwise, Great lunch deal of 10 dollars.
Leah Gartner
Delish food, awesome service and pretty cheap. Best indian restaurant out
Michelle
The best Indian place in Hamilton! Super cheap and the service is always top notch! $10 lunch deal including naan, poppadom, a drink and your choice of curry.. Can't go wrong! I don't go anywhere else for Indian in Hamiltn
Laura
Been here about 5 or 6 times and every time has been jusy as good as the last!! Love eating here. The butter chicken is by far the best I've had in NZ and the palak panneer is also a goodie. It's quite a cute place nice decorations etc. Although sometimes the music is a bit loud. Would highly recommend. ..always a happy customer.

We celebrated my uncles 60th birthday party there. It was a very special occasion for us and the reception we received from
The owner and the staff was simply the best. The food superb and the service Supa Dupa. I would recommend everyone to go there. They are the BEST ........

Visit Royal Indian Restaurant when I can't be bothered cooking and am never let down. Flavours are amazing and you get great value for money.

I was visiting Hamilton and wanted to celebrate a birthday at an Indian restaurant in Hamilton. I chose Royal Indian on the reviews I read and was not disappointed. The restaurant is a little off the beaten track but good parking right outside. The staff were great and our meal was beautiful at a very reasonable price. My main Chicken Kadhai was only $15 and the wine is very reasonably priced. I fully recommend this place

I had a lovely night here. We shared an entree, and each chose a separate main. A great variety of choice in the menu at good prices, the service was quick and unobtrusive. I enjoyed the food. I chose a medium curry, a step up from mild for me, and enjoyed the change. Good flavours. The restaurant was spacious and clean.

I went here with a group of friends. We went to Hamilton from Auckland to celebrate the end of our soccer season and we were recommended that we go to Royal Indian for dinner.
The food was great, price reasonable, the decor and ambience is pretty basic.
The only small criticism I have is that when I went to pay I was asked if I consumed any BYO alcohol that my group brought and I said that I only had a small glass of beer but I still had to pay the $4 BYO corkage fee. That was a bit unexpected but understandable.

Really surprising place. It was a miserable night when I picked Royal Indian at random as a place to go eat. Located in a shabby block of shops in deepest Hamilton I wasn't sure what we'd find when we stepped inside. It was warm inviting well lit and seriously clean. Food Safety Excellence awards were displayed. Food was top notch, service is personal and friendly. The price was great! Two adults and two small kids for under $50 is pretty rare. Enjoyed watching the kids getting their Naan and Rice on. Can't wait to go back.

If you want authentic South Indian food, this is the best one ever in Hamilton. The dosas are fabulous. The staff are friendly, the food is delicious and value for money. The decor is simple and not too extreme as you would see in other restaurants. Keep up the good work.
Kaylene
We went here with a large group for a farewell dinner - don't be deceived by the exterior! Such a great atmosphere, amazing meals and good portion sizes. Oh, and affordable and BYO! Love it and would definitely go back with a big group.

The best Indian restaurant in New Zealand, by far! I live in Tauranga and whenever we visit Hamilton we go to the Royale Indian restaurant. The food is delicious!! The options are plentiful. I am vegetarian and there is so much to choose from. I look forward to my next visit.
Claire
You cant beat it! Best indian. Very good price. Not exactly the best environment but the food and service make up for lack of decor
Jess Barton
Good food, good portions, good prices, good service.. Their tandoori chicken is a must have.. Fullll of flavors...

Enjoyed a most delicious kari koodi chicken dish and the best naan ever. Definitely go again
Helen Morris
Great food. Best Indian I've ever eaten. We go there often and the service is excellent. We're always greeted as we walk in ..... the waiters are a friendly bunch of very polite guys. The little girl who is sometimes at the counter is really cute and friendly too!
I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's relatively casual and the prices are cheap. The best deliciously scrumptous curries and more.....
Terry
Great food, but the sevice going downhill. This place used to give great service. But now the staff not good. Specially the Indian girl working there. Really bad attitude. All the time we dealt with her, it's been a disappointment. Hate to say, but we want to look for another place, just because of her bad service. So irritating, not customer focussed at all.
The owner is great. Overall great food, please teach that girl some good customer service.
Thanks

This is really a 4.5. Royale Indian is probably the best Indian food I have had in New Zealand, and definitely the best in Hamilton. When I ask for spicy, they make it spicy. If in a non-spicy mood, they make a mean Korma. Really, all the curries I have tried are delicious. The paper roast and the the Tandoori chicken are also awesome and the tomato rice is quite yummy. I will say that I've had better garlic naan, but I still order it and eat it all every time :)

No question the best Indian food in Hamilton and not overpriced. Service is excellent and friendly. Great for eat in or takeaway.

Favorite restaurant of any kind in Hamilton. I have been to this place countless times, and not once disappointed. However, it would be nice if I always get SPICY when I ask for spicy. Perhaps it's time for me to learn how to say spicy in Hindu. Otherwise, this places is flawless.
Melanie Brown
Love the food here. One of the best Indian restaurants in Hamilton we think. Great price too.
Rosie
Our favourite restaurant in town. Great service, great food and wonderful ambience. We have taken all of our visiting family there - everyone loves it. Love Sanjeev, Bunti and now Kartak! (excuse the spelling :-) )
Katy A
By far our favourite Indian restaurant. The guys are great and so friendly - Stretch is a great waiter and always patient with us trying to decide what to have! Chicken Tikka entree is amazing and we are all Dosa converts! My husband loves the butter chicken - not too sweet as some other places have a tendancy to make it. But Tikka Masala, Saag, Rogan Josh, Vindaloo, Jalfarezi, Kari Koodi are all highly recommended. Now you can see why we take so long to decide!! Samosas are wonderful too as is the onion bhaji. Most reasonably priced and BYO is always a bonus. Definitely have to go there - not even a question about it!
Nina
My favourite resturant in Hamilton,

It's so cute with the its red walls and matching table cloths.

The food is always delicious and the staff are always friendly.

Eating in or taking out- It's affordable and delicious.

On visting, make sure you are very clear about how much chilli you want in your curry- on occasion there is confusion and they get it wrong.
Kelly
Great food! great spices and full of flavour. Have had a number of appetizers and curries and all have been delicious. Also, the service is great, good prices, easy parking, and you can eat in or get takeaways. Very nice place.
