Review Master House Chinese Restaurant - Hamilton

Easy to notice from road side.. 1st time having dinner at this resto. Been there with group at boxing day.... few tables occupied and take quite long time for them to serve what we ordered. Is it because of boxing day or ...? Steam Fish is good, while others is so so...

Friendly service, affordable prices, highly recommended this place👌 I like shao mai with pork and prawns, it's always good, chicken wings are very delicious, and finally I've tried bean curd sheets rools with pork, oooh, so yammy😋😋😋 Fried squid has enough size of the portion, but some pieces are overcooked, a bit rubber, but still OK, anyway I enjoyed the food and place and think I'm coming back to try other Yam Cha sides👌

Master House is absolutely delicious. I haven't been to a yum cha style restaurant for years and years, but this one was definitely worth it. The food was so yummy, hot and fresh. The Chinese tea was tdf. It was all so tasty and so filling and not as expensive as we thought. Would definitely recommend, will definitely go here again, especially with the bf.

Had a lovely lunch today with my family. It was our first time trying Yum Cha and we thoroughly enjoyed the dishes. Each one was different and tasty. Our favourites were Sweet and Sour Pork, Sticky Rice and Chicken Skewers in Black Pepper Sauce.

Great food, can't complain. Really enjoyed every dish. Two different evenings we visited the place we were given expired beer. They happily replaced. Can't fault the meals, will be back.

Always a pleasure. No problem taking your own birthday cake in, they will even pop it in their fridge for you. Happy to supply forks and spoons for those not proficient with chopsticks. When your 6 year old birthday girl chooses Chinese for dinner instead of McDonald's, you know it's good food.

We went to Master House on Saturday night for the Dim Sum and had a great meal, 4 adults and a 5 year old, 13 dishes and drinks, great food great value and all very full. Booked for 5.30 but probably should have booked for 5.45, either way we were in and out by 6.30.

Came here for the first time last week. Customer service was great I was actually there slightly earlier than their usual opening time but they still served me and made sure I was looked after. Had congee and noodles great food. Happy to return again.

Worst service ever and they even charge for one dollar per person as a service charge. We ate a mixed dumplings and a chicken stick that's just 15 nz dollars<br/>

popped in for lunch on the way back home to Auckland. Wasn’t bad, good selection of dimsum. <br/><br/>We had the restaurant all to ourselves, would like to see when it’s full

Had yum cha for lunch at this restaurant on the way back from Hamilton to Auckland. There was quite a wide ranging spread of dim sums. The tastes were pretty average.<br/><br/>This is one of the very few yum cha restaurants in Hamilton city.<br/><br/>Food & Beverage : 5/10<br/>Service : 6/10<br/>Price : 6/10<br/>Ambience : 6/10<br/>

This was my first experience of Yum Cha. It was a good first time. I enjoyed choosing an assortment of dishes and taste. We love dumplings and combination fried rice and both of these were good. The custard bun was interesting but once again a new experience. The layout was semi spacious, a little dated but fine. It cost around $60 for myself and my three children. The service wasn't so great but it was ok for a first experience.

Went here a couple of weeks ago with friends food was average, nothing special. For the price they have a very small serving. Very disappointing.

My partner and I absolutly love yum cha and all asain foods. We were highly dissapounted and disgusted at this yum cha. I couldnt even eat the food that was served to us. We couldnt finish everything that we ordered because of how disgusting the food tasted it definatly was by far the worst yum cha we have been to. I would not recommend this resturant to anyone.

We went there for late lunch as an alternative cz the other chinese resto that we wanted to go to was closed that day. This was by far the WORST dining experience ever. We had to wait for 15-20min for my meal wich was fine but i was almost done with my meal and my partner was still waiting for his chicken wings after 35min. When i asked for it, the waiter spoke to the cook in chinese and just looked at me, no response. Hello, I may look like chinese but I dont speak the language, or did they expect me to read their minds. I said dont bother if they haven't started cooking it but by the time I paid, it was ready as takeaway. My poor partner didn't have lunch as we were in a hurry, he had to go to work so he brought the takeaway only to be diappointed that they gave chicken joints not wings and it was not cooked still has blood. I wanted to return it but my partner said don't bother. It is tragic that such a nicely located resto has bad service...never coming back.

There were 6 of us and we came in but no greetings and no smile from the waitress and not even friendly. We're all shocked actually. <br/><br/>Then we asked for a bigger table since the place was empty but the waitress said "NO"<br/><br/>Then we told the waitress that we would like to have green tea for a hot drink then she came back with a tea pot with green tea in it - which is good.... but we have to ask for 6 cups hmmm.. Then we have to call the waitress for our orders.. SERVICE WASN'T GOOD..<br/><br/>Foods weren't great.  None of the two waitresses ask us if how was our dinner or did we enjoy our dinner? Nothing - not  a dicky bird...<br/><br/>It's the worst restaurant that I've been to..our experience with them wasn't good...<br/><br/>Well, I won't recommend the place to my friends and family... NO NO...

We love all Asian food and often have lum cha in Auckland botany west south in the city, I couldn't complain about one of the restaurants we frequent, they are all great places to eat, fresh, inviting, service is great. Anzac day. What a disgusting mess 10 lum cha dishes would have to be the worst food I've ever eaten. Prawn tempera witch I thought was different for lum cha but ok was awful greasy and tasteless. The dim sims were yesterdays, the squid you couldn't even get your teeth into, it was horrible and we paid $110 plus a surcharge being Anzac Day I asked them if they knew what Anzac Day was (he did). Do not go there unless you want to be thoroughly disappointed. It wasn't worth $20

Went there yesterday for yumcha at 1pm. Liked that they had a menu with pictures on it so we knew exactly what we were ordering. They should put the prices of drinks and chinese tea on the menu as well if possibile. Service was pretty good, food didn't take too long to arrive and probably one of the better tasting yumchas in Hamilton i've tasted so far.

We were expecting some great food after a local paper recommendation pasted on its windows. We settled for dinner instead of Yum Cha. Food was alright. Nothing to shout about. Lesson learnt - look out for a restaurant with more guest and I can bet the food is better there.

Terrible Yum cha, on two occassions. Food took extremely long to arrive, and the wait between different dishes to arrive at peak lunch hour was atrocious. We at one stage when ordering a dish for takeaway, were undercharged- which we wern't aware of as the menu had the price stated which is what we paid- the waitress then 20 minutes came with the dish, and said we needed to pay 8 dollars more than what we had. It was her mistake completely-she should of just dissolved this, she made herself look completely unprofessional not interested in earning regular patrons, more concerned about a quick buck. If you want great yumcha i recommend Master Kong restaurant on the other side of Victoria st.

Yum Cha on my way through Hams. May 2017.Good selection, service was a bit inattentive, but okay.  Noticed that you get charged for water - unusual. Still very pleasant atmosphere, food was still good not great. Would eat here again, but you drop from 4 stars to 3.5 stars for service.<br/> Weekend Lunch 20/10/2012 $95 for 11 dishes and six beers ! Service was average, they could do a bit better asking if people want drinks and checking if they would like to order more. All in all, will definitely return after my first experience.<br/><br/>Business Lunch July 2012.<br/>Very pleasant, place was full, service was as expected, food was good - nothing over the top great, but not horrible. Menu was as expected however a little disappointed that wait staff did not really take the time to ask if we have had yum cha before.<br/>Tempura squid definitely not as pictured - dense batter rather than tempura.<br/>Were checked up on to see if we needed more beverages.<br/>Would dine here again happily.

Went back for Yum Cha for the first time in years, were a bit disappointed, first time we went (some years ago) thought if was great raved about it wouldn't want to take someone else there now. Food was okay service was poor, couldn't get a drink for asking. Place had a messy unclean feel about it, won't be going back

Over all a disappointing decision to walk in off the street for a meal.<br/>There was no greeting or smile, just pick up of the menu and shown to our table. My partner was asked if he wanted Jasmine tea and he said no, but I never got asked so we had to call the waitress back.<br/>The restaurant was like an open corridor with tables scattered everywhere. The walls had splashes on them. The wood around the wall was uneven and didn't join in some places. The art work on the wall was OK but there was no connection it was like it was placed there to fill the gaps. No atmosphere at all.<br/>My partner ordered a lemonade - came in a bottle with a straw hanging out. More like a dairy offering than a restaurant drink. Give the customer a glass.<br/>We ordered beef and vegetables and lemon chicken. Would have been great if the dishes came out together we had almost finished the beef dish before we had to go and ask where the chicken dish was. The beef was quite good, the vegetables were crisp. The dish was hot. My only negative was having great shards of ginger in the dish - did nothing for my taste buds other than to leave a harsh taste in my mouth. The lemon chicken was so bright it would have glowed in the dark. It was more battered offerings with a hint of chicken inside. Two circles of lemon on the plate were tarnished brown so not a pleasing looking. The sauce was very thick and contained three lemon pips.<br/>The rice was reasonable although a bit gluggy.<br/>All up $50.<br/>Wait staff could be more friendly, smile, greet the customer, ask about the meal at the table and when paying the bill and check if we wanted more drinks or if the meal was ok. Didn't even thank us for coming. For Hamilton's main street of dining a poor showing of hospitality

Master House started out 10 or so years ago and featured the cuisine of chef's head hunted by the owners from Hong Kong. The décor is wonderful and very clean with many of the pictures painted by the boss's wife and family. The food was brilliant, and well priced. <br/><br/>Sadly over time the quality of cooking has gone down hill a bit, and if it's authentic Chinese cuisine you're looking for I wouldn't eat here. The last time we ate there (and it was the first time in two years) we noticed no difference to the highly westernised menu, and can say with some authority there are much better Chinese restaurants in Hamilton.

Reasonably priced authentic chinese meals in a clean and pleasant environment.

Kia ora,<br/><br/>I had read a review in the local newspaper quite some time ago about Master House, saying if a Chinese restaurant is full of Chinese people eating, then it's good - this could be said about my visit, as there were many Chinese lunching. This signalled to me I was gonna taste some true authenticity. <br/><br/>I liked the atmosphere, clean, tidy and smiling staff who were very hospitible. We drank jasmin green tea while we perused the Yum Cha menu (if you're new to yum cha, google it). Other Yum Cha places I've been to, usually bring the dim sum around in a server for you to pick, I think I prefer menu now, tastes fresher. Anyway, we got shrimp balls, fish tofu, combination dumplings, pork rolls, and sticky rice. Everything tasted freash, and very 'more'ish'. This motivated me to order some duck, oh, glorious duck! It was absolutely gorgeous. After more fish tofu, shrimp balls and duck and a serving of this delicious shredded seaweed &amp; sesame dish, we tried the pineapple buns for desert, a very delicately flavoured treat, with a quite unique texture that was like biting into a sweet cloud - we thought they'd be nice with a cuppa later, so we asked to take some home!<br/><br/>All in all, we had a wonderfull time, great setting, great service, and great food (which wasn't expensive, $70 for three) along with great company made for a truly great meal. We look forward to returning to Master House and trying some new dishes along with more shrimp balls and that glorious duck.
