Review Thai Village Cafe - Hamilton

I was a bit dubious about this place based on previous reviews but we decided to give it a go anyway. We found it to be very good, service was prompt and efficient and food was very nice. We will be back.

I really enjoyed the restaurant and the food, however we were over charged for the meal and had to return to settle the bill.

Price is good. The seafood red curry was good, but the beef thick rice noodles was super duper spicy for a medium heat. Also the noodles was over cooked and not much. And the plate used for the noodles was so tiny to the proportion of the soup.

Visited last week for dinner mid week. The service was good. The food was tasty! I had the Gaeng Mussaman curry and really enjoyed that, I can't speak for it's authenticity though as I have not yet traveled Asia. I thought the prices were a little high but over all a good experience!

Possibly the worst restaurant I've ever visited. Expensive, terrible service and tiny portions (I though my dish was a side). Avoid at all costs.

Authentic deco, well-dressed Thai staff.

That's it.

Overpriced menu, less-than-authentic vietnamese dishes. This place is definitely more Thai than Vietnamese.

For starters a plate of pad thai is $19.50 ($4-5 more expensive than other places. Heck, I can get a plate of pad thai at $10 back in Auckland in far greater quantity). I ordered the beef pho - and let me tell you - for someone who knows her phos very well - it was far from authentic. Even a franchise like Han San does it better (and way cheaper too). Bean sprouts were dumped into the soup (when it's usually served separately with a wedge of lemon). The beef slices were thick as - it was a chewing marathon (it should be thinly sliced pieces). And they didn't serve me with usual Vietnamese condiments - just a bowl and that's it. Awful awful awful. And it was $20.50!

I expected more from a THai/Viet establishment.

We ordered Tom Yum soup, and satey chicken for entrée, Red beef curry and fried rice for Main.Entrée were both OK, except the tiny kid's size of the soup, but it was the mains that were very disappointing.First of all, the menu clearly said the curry comes with Jasmin rice. But actually it doesn't and we were charged$4 for a tiny bowl of steamed rice, which after we complained about and was taken off from the bill.Fried rice was very very soggy. This was a huge disappointment for my wife. Taste of the fried rice was too sweet and not deep 'Thai' taste we experienced from eating in Thailand, and various other restaurants both in NZ and overseas.Wait stuff was friendly enough but food was disappointing. We're not going back there in a hurry.

My husband and I came here for lunch in May 2014 using a deal voucher. The staff were dressed authentically and the service was good overall. They asked for the voucher straight away and took my phone away to scan. (A little unprofessional, I prefer to do this at the end but not really a biggie). The place was clean and we had a good seat in the window. The food took a wee while to come out (on a tight lunch break) but was tasty and well presented. Would recommend, although not sure I'd return to pay full price.

Went here for lunch today. The food was flavourless, extremely bland. There was no heat in the meals despite them rating it as medium hot. Also the portion size was tiny. We went straight to another restaurant for a proper meal straight after. Would not recommend.

We go out with friends once a month, have done now for over 12 months this was the worst meal we have had. Entrees passable if you like rubber like fishcakes, all our meals were lacking in flavor and just warm as though they had been sitting and the had forgotten to bring out to us saw another table getting there meals and they were steaming hot ... could have cooked a better meal at home.

Enjoyable night out.
Comfortable atmosphere, fantastic food, very efficient service and accommodating to any requests. Would definitely return and recommend it to the family.

Outstanding meal, great service. The duck was amazing. Party of five, well served and organised. Thanks for a great night.

We had three courses and the turn around on each course was excellent. The restaurant was full so great that we got our meals so quickly.

I would recommend.

I ordered takeaway and had my mixed platter completely missing from the bag. Luckily my wife checked this in the car and went back to ask them. They apologized and gave her another box which had only 4 entrees instead of 7 that they mentioned on the menu. We didn't go back to ask them again due to parking issues.
The cashew and chicken main that I have had numerous times before was a big let down as there was no flavor to the dish at all...such a rip-off!! Very disappointed...I used to love this place..won't return to this restaurant again!!

I wouldn't normally post a 'bad review' but last night I had the worst dinning experience I have ever had! On a table of 13 - x4 forgotten appetisers which were only finally served after we told & then retold the waitress. Mains - once again x4 meals totally missed out whilst we watched other tables being served - I left without eating. No apologises or compensation offered. Such a pity as this use to be a great place - avoid at all costs!

Disappointing is how I would describe tonight's meal. The staff were friendly but too few for the number of patrons. We had to order our drinks twice. Two of our party ordered the seafood boat and both were barely entree size, costing $30 each. This place used to be a family favourite. Now it's poor value for money and an average dining experience. We won't be going back.

Went to dinner here tonight. We we're served cold prawn cakes when we informed the waitress about it she asked if we would like it heated up in the microwave. What the?! No we do not want it 'heated up'. We didn't eat them and refused to pay for them. Then out came the main but when it was delivered we were told "Unfortunately since you held us up with the prawn cakes you're rice will be five minutes wait" By the time the rice got to the table it was safe to say our mains we're cold too. This is very disappointing for us as we have been coming to this restaurant for years. The service and food were both really poor. Shame really.

Had dinner at the Thai Village last night and we were really impressed. It's BYO, which is always nice to have that option.

We had three starters, of which two were really good, and the third - the stuffed chicken wings - were actually not great. But having tasted all three, the others were much better.

We all shared our mains, as we often do in a Thai or Indian restaurant. I got the Jungle Curry (Not for the faint hearted - really is Thai hot!) and my friends got the sizzling beef and another beef curry. We enjoyed all of them.

Their service was great, coming back to check on us whenever we needed anything. All round, a great meal. :)

Went for dinner to Thai Village for New Years eve. It was horrible. Firstly they got our tables and reservations mixed up so our group was divided all up and had to sit away from each other on separate tables so we weren't able to enjoy the night as much. Secondly I didn't get the chance to order my drink when the waiter came so I went to the bar to place an order and was very rudely told to get back to my table and to wait for a waiter, I understood that I had to wait for a waiter but the person at the counter was just really rude. And thirdly the food wasn't amazing, it was okay but not the best. Personally I do not recommend eating at Thai Village.

Good, not excellent but good tasty well proportioned Thai food..
Nice presentation of food but restaurant is looking a little tired and run down.Service was good and prompt even when busy which is good to see, also very friendly.

On the down site the drinks at Thai Village are considerably more expensive than equivalent restaurants.

Not my cup of tea to be honest. I would suggest having some sort of inoffensive European dish like steak and chips on the menu for when a group decides on Thai and drags someone along who doesn't like Thai food.

I must almost have shares in this place, I have spent sooo much money here!
The reason...the food is scrumptious, each and every time!
The food is very flavoursome!
The service is friendly and attentive!

My fave! I love Thai food and I would easily say this is the best I've had. Lovely setting too. I wouldn't go anywhere else! The chicken cashew stirfry is tasty and the seafood one is great too, loaded with interesting yummy things =)

This is the first time we visited this restaurant, inside proper, spotless. The inside decor think you are in Thailand. The food was suburb. I just came from Thailand, but some Thai chefs an go by this Thai Chef for learning. Waaauw man, this is a must to dine if you like Thai food

Probably the best thai restaurant in Hamilton. Good atmosphere and food.
