Review Helena Bay Cafe - Helena Bay

Great location. Beautiful view from the outdoor down the gully to the sea. Well presented and arty since it's attached to a cool art gallery. Beautiful garden. Food is average though. It was only cabinet food available. We ordered a pie and ham&cheese croissant and it's wasn't great. Staff could be more friendly and engaging. However if you are traveling around it's worth stopping by.

We had breakfast at Helena Bay Cafe this morning. The service and meal were exceptional. It was more than just breakfast, it was an experience. I will definitely return. Ps we had "The Helena Owl" breakfast. A bread basket, a fruit platter and a breakfast. Well done. All those dishes were part of 1x breakfast and coffees

What a special place. The views from this cafe/restaurant have to be the best on the North Island and certainly in the northland. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff so friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend to everyone. They also had a great kids menu so our children were very well cared for and welcome too. Thank you for a lovely afternoon 🙏🏻

We live locally, and visited the Cafe on Day 1 of its new management, and again on Day 6. The difference was like night and day. Day 1 was disappointing, though we were pleased that more than cabinet food was on offer. Day 6 was a pleasant surprise - friendly and efficient staff who went out of their way to ensure our brunch was just as we had hoped, and our guests were impressed. Well done to the Cafe team for rising the the challenge, and ensuring the Cafe is worthy of a stop if you are passing through, or a pleasant diversion if you live locally.

4 locals went for lunch today and had great Indian meals. Extensive menu including vegetarian options plus European and cabinet food. They are open until 7pm and also do takeaways. The service wasn’t super quick but that suited us today. We will definitely be back

We went for dinner last night - superb Indian meal, excellent service and of course the views are amazing. We also had a look at the breakfast menu (I think they now open at 8.30 a.m.) and it was extensive - Eggs Benedict, pancakes, cereal and healthy eating if that is what you prefer. Highly recommend the dinner though. They do takeaways as well.

Great western & Indian food prepared by Chef Hemrej, with a million-dollar view over a lush green valley towards the sea. Pure bliss. Go there if you can, it's a wonderful experience.

Beautiful place to be. The Ocean views are spectacular, the Gallery is full of incredible Original Art and Craft work from Contemporary to Cultural to refreshingly Modern. The Cafe Menu allows for choices across a lovely mix of food and beverages which are Yummyliscious and the service is friendly and casual yet efficient....The beautiful garden walks are an added bonus as is the Outdoor Chessboard and the lovely little places on the walk to sit and chat while relaxing in the bushlike surroundings. We love being in this place...it's a 'have to visit' place for us when we're in Whangarei - AND it's just a 32 km drive away.

An incredibly nice little gem on the side of the road hidden away. So glad i found this place, the atmosphere and the view is absolutely stunning. And the food and staff are just so lovely too. Highly recommend the burger. It's just so fresh and got so much flavour. And top it off with one of their sweets from the cabinet!

We went to the cafe to just drink a coffee and soak in the beautiful view, but ate some of the indian food and i must say it was more than delicious. From the vegeterian curry which was as tomatoey as it gets over the super tasty mango lassi, kashmiri naan and to the lamb korma which was perfect. The prices were more than adequat as well. Thanks for the experience

Great food with an outstanding view of the ocean. The gallery is amazing and varied. Not bad prices too. This is a must see if you're in the area.

Is this the nicest place in the world for lunch? Yummy food, nice staff, beautiful garden, fabulous view, excellent gallery / shop and random Newfie. If you are in the vicinity, go. If not, get in the vicinity and then go.

Came here today with my mum and sister. Great food and friendly service. The mint slice is to die for and the vegetable quiche was great too. Would definitely recommend this place to others and will revisit again. :)

Well worth the 40 minute drive from Whangarei. The views across the valley to the sea are beautiful. Lovely attentive service and great range of cabinet food as well as blackboard menu. The coffee is also very good. We will definitely come back again!

I've been bringing visitors to the region here to the gallery and cafe for many years and it never fails to impress. It features a fabulous view, great coffee and food and a gallery with something for everyone plus a lovely garden to explore topped off with attentive courteous service.

Such friendly staff, delicious food and coffee, the most spectacular view! Really accomodating for toddlers!

The tasty meals are reasonably priced, while the attentive customer service and exceptional views are completely free! Highly recommend as a destination in itself!

Under new ownership, doing well, we’re missing the interaction with Julia and Uwe, and missing the German Baked Cheesecake (but the new food looks good) and the great coffee. New coffee - we had flat whites - is well made but maybe over-roasted and needs more depth of flavour. We will continue to revisit.

Breath taking views with amazing art, sculptures, jewellery and cafe to book. Worth the stop if you have time.

I posted to the Gallery Helena Bay as well, cafe and gallery are connected and both are very special. Happy and engaging staff, great variety of food from breakfast favourites to lunch time treats. Try the mint slice made with REAL mint - don’t get that everywhere you go ( given I am a mint slice nut!) very relaxed seating area with panoramic views for the bay below, great backdrop to a great cafe. Didn’t know the management had changed but these guys are doing great! Good job and DEF be back.... oh and I managed to (do some damage) spend $600 in the gallery on a swamp kauri bowl and two original designed silver rings.... something for everyone
