Review The Hangar - Henderson

Dion Keating
Great food and atmosphere. Had a burger each. Well cooked and the chips were delicious. Highly recommended if your in the area.

The Hangar was a great venue to host our engagement party! Only required a small deposit and minimum spend for the night. The team let us have early access for decorations and roughly 60 guests attended with great space. Upstairs was perfect to hold a private party and the service was amazing, shout out to our bar tender Channy and duty manager Laura :)

Great drinks, great food but the best thing about this place is Chantelle. The most amazing server, always lovely to talk to so inviting and genuinely the best server. We always come back for her and we miss her when she’s off.

Went for dessert and a drink. Initially had to ask for dessert menus and drinks were a little slow in coming but over all was a good evening with yummy cheesecake and passionfruit margarita.

Great spot for group functions. Ask for Chantelle to look after you, can’t go wrong. Great banter! Singer was brilliant also!

Great place. Quiz nights at Hangar Bar rock. The food was great, fast service. Easy to order from the table, including drinks. Staff very welcoming.

Great Halloween theme on Friday. Chantelle dressed as Chucky was the best! Great to see how much effort the staff put in. She is also always friendly and accommodating. Ask her to make her signature shot...you won't be disappointed!

Drinks and starters were good. Mains needed some improvement. Steak was dry, but food from the platter was nice. Calamari was good

From Carters Henderson crowd that come often, we love coming here the daily deals is epic and we have great service 10/10. Specifically Chantelle and a few other ladies at the bar.

ive been going here for 10 yrs, its pretty good. my go-to is the stonegrill steaks which are good and immersive - sometimes there is some gristle though. the sides and sauces are divine! the last time i went, i had sirloin cooked for me, the inside was cooked perfectly medium but the crust tasted kinda bitter. overall, still delicious and amazing service for the functions over the past yrs

Great venue, we booked a week before last minute and the Bar Manager was able to squeeze us in a 2hr slot upstairs for the kids Prizegiving. Great food and hospitality. Thanks Hanger Mgt for being their for the local team. Regards Pasefika U14 Girls Oceania Champions 2023 Gold 🏅

It was my first time in here,I liked the atmosphere and I ordered a cocktail. I didn't have enough time to check the food, but it looks like I can find a variety of foods .I will definitely go back .

We used to LOVE coming to the hangar but had a bad experience the last time we went. We tried it again last Sunday and decided we won't come back here again.

We noticed straight away that the menu had changed from the last time we were there before the lockdown. The girl who served us was so lovely and told us that she was back from leave and that the menu had just changed that day.

Unfortunately all the food was awful. I wouldn't re-order any of it except the onion rings.

We ordered bread and dips - bread wasn't really like bread because it was so thin. It wasn't a tortilla but almost similar and baked hard.

The pork belly wasn't crispy and fat hadn't been rendered enough. Also a very small portion for the cost.

Chicken wings were ok, we got teriyaki sauce on them. These get a 👍 and would order them again.

Squid was a bit soggy and limp and needed some salt because it was quite bland.

We ordered 2 lamb shanks and the meat was nice and soft but everything tasted bland like they'd been pressure cooked in water and then covered in a brown packet gravy. They also didn't have the option to serve it with mashed potatoes which was strange, instead they serve it on buttered potatoes.

The stonegrills normay are awesome here but we didn't finish ours because the meat was so tough and had so much gristle. They've taken away lots of the sides options from the menu so before you could've had garden veg, brocollini, creamed spinach etc but now there aren't many options.

We ordered the sticky banana pudding which we were curious about. Apparently just like a sticky date pudding but it didn't taste anything like it. I'm convinced it was microwaved and reheated because it was so dry. The cake itself was like a muffin which was a shame because it would've been nice to have a more dense sticky pudding texture. The sauce was awful with it. They made a caramel with coconut cream which can be really nice but it hadn't been reduced wnough so it was super runny and had a milky texture. The best part was plain sliced fresh banana and squirt of cream. 100% do not get this.

Affogato was just a scoop of icecream in a cup with a shot of coffee. It's coffee and ice cream so of course it was yum but there was no effort to make it different or to present it nicely.

Churros were ok but i wouldn't order them again. The sauce was a bit funny too.

Overall the experience was disappointing but the staff are always so lovely here. I went to the bathroom and heard some arguing and tension in the kitchen so might have just been a bad first night with the revised menu. I hope they refresh their menu again though and try to make it a bit more cohesive. It feels like they're skimping on the quality of ingredients and choosing a lot of premade options. Hopefully they ditch all the premixes and get back to how they used to be.
Not that great fairly soulless no atmosphere kind of a boring place in the middle of a light industry area. Drinks were way to expensive.
Sonny Gough
Venue is great. Fish and chips was tasty but overpriced at $25.00. Would have been acceptable with a side salad
Pat
Food didnt taste fresh, tasted frozen... all food was below average. Venue is very nice, I reccomend going there only for the bar.

This restaurant has special promotion each day. I visit monday lunch when i got discounted all main menu.
Dish is proper as much price and taste is not bad.
Very friendly served ~

Only tried some tapas, their cajun fried chicken was good. Pork belly bite was slightly tough. Food were nicely presented.

Good enough for a pub/restaurant.

Sam Huggins
Very disappointed food chicken under cooked, ice cream sundae was very over priced for what you got. - this is the third time now a group of us has gone out for lunch here and been disappointed- will not be going back

Second time at the Hangar, and the first time a small issue, but after speaking to management, I went back to try again. Service was much better this time, and suspect the other was an off night, rather than usual service. Had the platter of meats, and chicken wings. both were really good, and a nice quiet table to sit and eat and chat before heading out for the night. food was good value with 3 drinks, all up around 80 dollars, for 2 of us and more than we needed. will go back as some of the other entrees looked good,

We have been here a several times and never been disappointed. The food has always been served promptly and we tend to order 2 items from the'small' menu to share -southern fried chicken and pork belly bites are favourites, plus a beer each and this is more than enough for lunch, although watching other tables being served with delicious smelling pizzas or burgers makes me determined to go back and forget about 'small' plates ! The Staff are always friendly and attentive and happy to make suggestions regarding portion sizes and specials. Lovely atmosphere here and a very popular place.

Great place to catch up for weekends drinks! Great customer service and great food! Like the vibe of this place! Been here couple of times with friends and were always were happy! Will recommend this place! Go for a drink when in henderson!

Great place to go for an early dinner. Good outdoor area. If you don't go early enough for dinner than you should probably order some drinks and get lit because the locals roll out. It's always a good time especially when you can't afford to uber out to town and you only live 5 mins down the road. Friday nights are roudy nights. In all seriousness friendly staff, good food and drinks options overall a nice restaurant
AnnDeg
We ordered their pork belly with pumpkin on the side and the steak sandwich which were really good and well presented. The waiter was so courteous and asked how our food was and if we needed anything else. The interior is rustic and spacious with tables and seating for dining or just drinking. If you’re looking for a place to drink without feeling rushed, this place is it because it’s open till 3am and that’s a bit rare in Auckland.

Nice place. It’s casual and love the outdoor seating.
The food is good. The staff are friendly :) great place to sit and have a couple of drinks

I was here recently after having to kill some time before I had to be somewhere and I happened to stumble upon this gem!

The place was packed full with over 150 people they had to seat and serve I I must say that the staff did an incredible job amidst that commotion. They stayed friendly and welcoming, and they told me that it would be a 30 minute wait for my food, but I understood why because the place was packed full, however within 10 minutes I was already eating.

I also really loved the atmosphere that was created here, the aesthetic of the place worked well with the music, and the general vibe they were trying to create

I had the Japanese fried chicken and it was absolutely heavenly, it comes with this sweet BBQ sauce that just takes the dish to another level. Highly recommend this if you ever find yourself in Henderson

A well-run establishment conveniently located near Trust Arena. Nicely laid out and able to cater for large groups. Friendly service, decent food and cold beer.

Atmosphere bang on, ambience is lovely! The staff are very friendly, attentive and clearly communicated. There is booth seating available indoors as well as bar seating and tables available indoors and outdoors so it is family friendly. The food is always well presented and appetising. On Sundays their platters and "small plates" menu is half price. We tried the foreshore and seabed platter and it was amazing. It is perfect to share between 2 adults, and I could not fault anything. Some of the best calamari I've ever had, crispy chicken bites, pork belly bites, rump steak and garlic bread. On a Monday night they have a special of $17.50 mains. I would highly recommend the rib eye which is served with a gorgeous red wine jus. Incredible value for money with the specials, not sure I would pay full price however.

Very good service and yummy food. Also kids friendly. The environment is cozy and warm for a winter night. I like this place and will come back again.

Came here for dinner recently. There is booth seating available indoors as well as bar seating and tables available indoors and outdoors. We choose to sit outside. There was music playing, but it was in my opinion far to loud. You really had to strain to hear a conversation. It was a bit loud for a Sunday night.

The "Smalls"menu section was on special for half price, so we got the Pork Belly Bites as our starters. They tasted really good, but we needed forks to eat them and were not given any so we had to use our fingers.

For the mains, we had the Custom Grill 2 (2 meat options) and the Sticky Chilli Belly Pork. It didn't occur to me to ask but the Custom Grill was really those hot stone plates that they serve the raw meat on and you have to wait for it to be cooked. I really don't like these so was a bit gutted. The slaw was ok but the beer battered fries was amazing and definitely the highlight of the meal for me. My cousin had the Belly Pork and seemed to like that enough, but we both thought at the end of our meals that we should have just got the fries.

We also had a free complimentary main menu coupon and saved $24. I think this is a great place to go if you want a catch up drink and some snacks while your at it, but if you are looking for a relatively quiet place to go for a meal this would not be it. I would return for the fries and a gin and lemonade.
Bambi
Went there today! Really delicious food and generous serving. Shame that my order took a while but no worries. Would defs go there again especially for the 50c wings!!
Christina
All I can say, is that The Hangar has revamped their restaurant and menu for the better!

I've been here a few times now for their stone grill meals, which are good value for money and come with decent sides. I always get the 200g rump steak with the 2 sides as that's plenty.

Their newly updated platters are also great- I tried the foreshore and seabed one and it was amazing. It was a good amount to share between 2 adults, and everything on it was delicious. The platter had the best calamari I've ever eaten (super tender and great mix of herbs), pork belly bites, crispy chicken bites, rump steak and garlic bread. The platter was $45 which was pretty good given the amount of food we got.

Their chocolate fudge cake was also decadent- it was rich, gooey, and a good portion size given how rich it was. It came with a scoop of ice cream, candied walnuts and berry coulis.

Keep forgetting to review this place because it's a local casual drop in but have been many times and have never been disappointed by either the food or the service.
Not fine dining by any means but that isn't what it purports to be. The food though is well presented and very acceptable. Small sharing plates are available and always arrive hot and promptly, while the mains are generous and the onion rings are to die for!
Never managed a dessert apart from an affogato, which is yum

Was excited to eat at The Hanger however after travelling all the way to Henderson for lunch we were denied service as my partner did not have ID on her. We were not purchasing any alcohol what so ever and was just wanting to purchase food. First place I've ever been asked for ID to buy some chicken wings. Not happy.
Drannele Castro
Loved the concept of how they serve some of their food on top of a stone grill. I had their chicken breasts paired with mint sauce and some chips which I enjoyed. Their hot wings is also a must try. Food and drinks are reasonably priced without the quality of food being sacrificed. They even have promos throughout the week and have different ways to keep you entertained. Staff are also accommodating. Love the ambience, perfect place to chill and catch up with friends. We definitely enjoyed our first time here and will surely come back.

Would have rated this a 4 or maybe higher as I used to come nearly every week for The Grill pizza or the Uncle Sam burger, as they were fantastic. Unfortunately the menu changed a while ago and while not bad, nothing I tried quite lived up to the previous menu. Very friendly staff, and occasionally we got our drinks comped (as we were such regulars), so high marks for the general service.
Chloe Rose
Recently the place has been renovated and also the menu has just changed. A lot more "flash" things on the menu haha. I had some starters the other night they were quite nice and they were plated beautifully

I cannot get enough of those Hot Wings! I love spicy food and that's hard to come by in NZ, so I'm going to say, best Hot Wings in NZ. My partner steals more of my wings order every time we go back. After 3 visits, service is really good and accommodating. Great ambiance, lots of food options, and specials. I wasn't too impressed by some of the other food items I've had, but that's also following the intense flavor of the hot wings, so I could be biased. I was expecting better flavor on the Carnivore Pizza (lots of exciting looking toppings, but the flavor was lacking). Again, that's personal preference, so I chose not to mark down too harshly. The Chook Pizza is okay and has more flavor in my opinion. I will be back for more hot wings, and to dabble around the rest of the menu!
Nathalie
First time coming here they have really good specials like $17.5 for steak etc. the service is really good staff are prompt and accommodating, ambiance is lovely they have a bar that is separated from eating area which is nice because you can have a nice family dinner away from bar. My steak was cooked perfectly and other dishes were also yummy. I will not however pay full price for those dishes but will be back on days they have specials!

Came here for lunch, awesome food and great service!
I had a salad and fries while other I was with had a range of different option, all of them delicious. Spicy chicken wings were a favourite!
Great range of beer on tap and wine.

My initial reaction to being invited to The Hangar was, "a place out WEST? In the suburb whose very name strikes fear in the hearts of any self-respecting non-bogan who hated 'Outrageous Fortune'?" As you can see I did not have high expectation for The Hangar, nor a high opinion about anything west of Avondale (Titirangi excepted, just).
But boy was I surprised! The Hangar was bright, clean, family-friendly and as opposite to my expectation as you can get! It had a comfortable atmosphere where diners of all walks of life can mingle without feeling out of place. The staff were dedicated and obviously took pride in their work. The provision of toys for young children added to my delight that The Hangar is a family-friendly place that also takes other diners' sanity into consideration.
Then came the food, and I felt that the care and consideration in their service did not really go into the food. The Calamari was underseasoned, then unevenly seasoned, then overseasoned as the plate progressed. The coating of the Calamari was undercooked and already soggy when it came onto the table. The pizzas were average, though this rocket-and-ham concoction was a bit finicky to eat, and rocket/arugula seemed to be the only salad leaf around.
Drink-wise, I only ordered a Toblerone cocktail, it took a good long time to arrive and was rather lacklustre if you call it a "cocktail", but it was a pretty acceptable as an "alcoholic iced chocolate".
So overall, The Hangar was a pleasant surprise, both in its environment and food (I had VERY low expectation for their food!). Consider me schooled about West Auckland!

A friend and I popped in here at about 1.30pm on a Sunday for a late lunch. They had a great special on half price bar food so we ordered nachos, chicken wings and fries. The food was great however it took about 40 minutes to arrive as apparently the kitchen had been overwhelmed with orders. The staff were apologetic and really nice but the long wait was a shame.

This place is great! Whether it's for a fancy dinner on the weekday or a bit of a boogie on the weekend! Love this Westie style bar for a bit of fun all week long ☺️
Sonia
Yummy food..... new look in the inside not that great though. Message to the chef: Bring back the farmers market pizza and banoffee waffles on the menu :(
Foodie Chronicles
We were not sure what to expect when we first arrived with it being more of a bar than a restaurant and being quite rowdy, but we were pleasantly surprised! It was a lot quieter where us diners were sitting and had a good atmosphere. We ordered the stone-grills which are always a great novelty. The meal had good portions and the sides were so fresh and cooked perfectly. Would recommend!

I've only ever been to The Hanagar for drinks and a dance at night on the weekends - however this time I went with my partner and daughter for lunch. Only 2 other tables with people, however the music was great, the food was AMAZING and when the waitress brought toys over for my daughter, my heart melted watching my daughter put on a massive smile!!

So thank you Hangar!! We will definitely be back on a regular basis!
Karl Mclean
I use to drink down the Hanger every Friday night, but recently I can't get through the door! For four years I have been drinking there, and now my id doesn't' work. It's not because it's invalid, it's because of the fascist new laws.

Once loyal customer, now a pure hatred filled ex-customer!
I clicked on 1.0 because there was nothing that would allow you to click on that which they are truly worth!
Max
We eat here quite often, service is always good.
Basic stone grill is good to be able to cook to your own liking. Sides you get are also very good.

Great place for meetings
FoodLoco
I always go here for dinner but the other day we went around for work drinks ordered couple of drinks, pizzas and some finger food.
OMG that crispy chicken is the MOST DELICIOUS thing ever!!! soo crispy and spicy LOVED IT. The pizza's were yummy tooo!
I will def go here again just for that crispy chicken.
Whiskyncigars
The restaurant is reasonably priced and food is really good. Huge selection 9f drinks from cheap to top shelf. Not a bad vibe and friendly staff. I would highly recommend the pork belly.
Went with my husband and cousin we all by coincidence ended up getting every burger on the menu. Each had a different one of course. I had the hangar burger was so good! Classic kiwi combo. My husband had the chicken burger which was also very good and I may order that one next time. And my cousin got the other one which also looked good. The burgers were really good and we went on a Monday which was cheap mains day. Decent size and the staff were very good food came out fast and everything was very good.
Wanderlust
This is a good place for after work or a quick lunch. I have never been disappointed with the food. Its a great place to go get a beer, and chips (chips are great).

The menu rarely changes, but it has most of the pub staples plus more! The pizzas are good, the salads and the stone grill.

Staff are friendly and it's all a reasonable price.
Linny
I wasn't sure what to expect from this place never having been to a bar out west before but I really enjoyed it! We came here during the big fight and I was able to reserve a seat for it which was such a bonus as it was super packed! We were so lucky that they were willing to take bookings on such and event.

I ordered the steak frites and it was cooked so well and although it took a while (not complaining at all considering the situation) I was happy and content in the bar as it is such a great neighbourhood bar and so clean with service being top notch. There are so many different varieties of dishes on offer, from the stone grill, the mains, pizzas and bar food it really has something for everyone. I had a sample of other peoples dishes and wasn't disappointed in the quality and quantity of it all.

If you are out west and don't want to travel to the city for any game I say to check them out. It's definitely a winner as a sports bar!
Georgia Vossen
Really nice food, was really quite salty though. Nice service, really nice atmosphere, they were having some sort of quiz when I went, got quite loud wasn't really much of an issue though. Would definetly go again, was better than I expected.
Shawn Stone
Have been to The Hangar several times and every time has been a wonderful experience. I especially enjoy their Stonegrill meals. I always go earlier with my family because it can get crowded later in the evenings as the bar fills up.
Kelly
I enjoyed my lunch at The Hangar I ordered the stone grill and it was very tasty, and it was novel to be cooking my lunch on the hot stone. The restaurant is lovely but the bar noise carries and it can be very busy and loud.
Tami T
I throughly enjoy every visit to the Hangar. The food is filled with flavour - i can't help but think that there is a slight Asian-influence in regards to taste. The meals are very large, so you definitely get your money's worth! Such a large variety of options and the presentation is always so lovely! In regards to staff, they are all very warm and friendly! I definitely enjoy dining here... The homely-vibe is what makes it a wonderful place to dine in :-)
Miss Kiki
I was pleasantly surprised with The Hangar. I always thought it looked a bit rough on the outside but thought one night when I really didn't feel like cooking that we would give it a go. I also had a buy one get one free voucher.
We were given complimentary bread as a special they had on that day.
I had the steak sandwich and my husband had the pork belly.
It was really good! My sandwich was very tasty and a generous portion, I couldn't finish it because of the bread before hand, but if you have a big appetite then it is perfect.
My husband loved the pork belly, the only suggestion he had was for them to include the crackling because they served it without.
Other than that it was a really good pub meal and they have really good meals during the week. I will definitely return to pay full price next time.
Susan Ball
We went here on the 20/01/2014, for the first time. It was great, our waiter was very polite and attentive. The kids had chips & nuggets from kids menu.I had a chicken salad and my partner had a chicken burger with chips, they were a bit overcooked (the chips)...... All the dishes were yum! We couldn't fit in dessert so maybe next time. We were a bit worried about the cost, but it wasnt too bad. Atmosphere was very nice and relaxing. We are definitely going back there again. Thankyou for a pleasant experience.
Daniel Swain
Hip westie bar with modern music to chill after work and party into the ngiht

I like the outdoor area, gives a separate area from the music if needed and confortable furniture.
Helena Rosencrantz
I came here for dinner with my partner a few weeks ago and it was amazing! Being vegetarian, my options were somewhat limited (probably the only downside of the night... there are only about three vegetarian meals), but the vegetarian pizza I ordered was delicious and probably one of the best I have ever had at a restaurant!

My partner ordered a Stonegrill (where the meat comes out on a hot stone and you cook it yourself). He's tried Stonegrills at other places and been rather unimpressed, but he said that this one was lovely! He'd ordered a couple of sides with it - creamed spinach and the linguine - and they were like joy in food form. I cannot recommend these enough.

The service was friendly and prompt, and I don't understand the previous reviews at all - this was casual dining at its best!
Adalaide Karanga
My family and I had a lovely meal for dinner. Service was prompt and if not I was my own host and knew to wait. I know what it's like to work in hospitality and hope to share ones knowledge to ask to "put your self in one's shoes". If our meal wasn't up to our "dining experience" then we would all moan to have stayed home. (so my husband would announced out loud. $$$)
Before our dining experience I researched this bar/restaurant and found it out to be nothing like its ratings.
My husband enjoyed the pork meal (I mean, how else is a SLOW cooked pork belly suppose to look like?? SHINNY? CRISPY?.) Go figure lady!!
I ordered the eye fillet for what seemed like a bank loan but it was delicious.
My children loved their meals with the extras we brought, so hey?? It was money well spent.
Vania Kensington
My husband and I went to the Hangar last Thursday for dinner. He ordered a hot rock meat thing that all in all was OK - how hard is it to cook your own meal really!
I however ordered the Pork Belly - huge mistake! When it arrived at our table it had this gluggy fatty mass on top of a small slice of pork.
I sent it back to the kitchen only for it to be returned and to be told that that's how the chef cooks it and if I don't like it 'too bad'!!!!
I will never eat at this place again - we use to love coming here but it just seems that the staff they employ are getting worse and worse.
The manager I complained to and our waitress were of much higher quality and were very apologetic. I just hope they get rid of that person they call a Chef!!!

Nice Garden Bar to enjoy a wine and late afternoon lunch. Recommend beer battered fries and Kiwi Roast Pizza, delicious and quick, staff are friendly and people too. Nice if you have nothing to do in the weekend and catching up with friends.

Staff are not at all trained to do their job and extremely misinformed. It is customer service that brings business and adds to the reputation of a place and I am sorry to state that this place lacks it totally. We were so misguided by the attendant and the Manager who is supposed to be in charge and help ugly situations was the worst of all. So this place is a nightmare if you want good customer service and a relaxing dining experience. This has happened not only to me but also to my colleague who has nothing good but everything negative about the customer service and lack of training of their staff. Perhaps some attention should be paid to training staff so it will do better business in the future.
JustOneMore
Went here for Mothers day to have a couple of drinks and a bite to eat. Was surprised that it was relatively quiet (as were the bar staff). Perhaps it is not the norm but that's OK we got a great table outside and enjoyed the space.

This place is pretty much what you would expect from the Gastro Pub style. It does offer the novelty of Stone Grill dining which is fun once or twice and then you want someone to cook it for you especially at the price. I can go anywhere and pay $30 for a steak and I have to say I would probably get more at those places too.

Don't get me wrong the food is pretty good but you are paying the upper end for what you are getting. We had pizzas, wedges, steaks, and chicken at our table and everyone was very happy.

We will go back as it is the best option in that area for a sit outside and enjoy a beer and a bite experience.
