Review The Good Home - Henderson

So we've been staying at the Lincoln Green hotel for a course for work. It is so convenient to dine at the good home but also, the service is probably one of the best I have received at a restaurant in the last couple of years. I see the bad reviews and I think possibly, they treat you how you treat them. Lee at the bar is one of the nicest guys I've ever met, very organised, very knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. From the moment you arrive you will get a good seat, be looked after, and the food is exceptional. I have had almost everything on the menu and will continue to go and try it all but time after time after time I find myself returning for the lamb rump. Cooked to perfection, good serving size, and well priced (this is a restaurant, not a greasy pub, remember that). Not only is Lee great, but the waitresses are lovely and friendly, they don't do the horrible thing that happens at every restaurant and arrive just as you have an entire mouthful to ask how your meal is, they deliver it and leave you alone as you would expect. If you ask for something, it arrives immediately. If you can't see the value in this place, it's likely that you are the problem, not them. 😊. I will rave about this place to anyone I met for many many years to come.

A really nice neighborhood pub to visit. Bokked on line-easy peasy! Sun night. Steak specials for $29. 3 stars as my med rare steak was cooked as ordered, but was a tough piece of meat (I did let them know) otherwise,his steak was perfect. The meal was great value, plenty of sauce/chips/salad and my mash was lovely. I ordered a passionfruit cheesecake to takeaway as I was too full to eat it there, very large portion...and very tasty! Great staff, super quick and helpful I will be back, to try another steak! 😊

My girls took me here for birthday dinner. Staff were great. Food was awesome. Haha the girls ended up with plenty in doggy bag. All round, would go back again. Cant say what costs were as i didnt pay

Thursday night pizza special $19 after 5pm delicious would pay full price I'm eating the crust as I leave Chowder is good sorry 😞 ate the garlic bread and polenta chips before I remembered to take a photo spend included drinks, no feijoa, so mango substitute for my spritzer

The rump steak was so good, the mushroom sauce and beer battered chips were devine. Ribs were really good too. Me and my partner really enjoyed our night here. Great atmosphere and great service

Absolutely amazing. Been here twice, never been changed. From service to food, all up top to the roof. Delicious food, friendly staff, with beautiful environments. Will definitely back for more.

We had an awesome lunch in this dog friendly bistro pub. The Guinness beef pie was delicious. I haven't seen my hubby enjoy a meal like that in a while. And, the seafood chowder to die for. Service was great. The price was reasonable even without the Gold card discount. We will be making this a regular on our list.

Great place prices are reasonable.nice outdoor area. Just had wedges today as a snack vodka red bulls and jack and cokes.

Came for lunch on Monday!! It was AMAZING. I thoroughly enjoyed every single thing on my plate. My steak was cooked perfectly 😍 the fries were well seasoned, hot, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, my slaw was fresh, crunchy and just enough dressing. Lovely place for a pub dinner. We had the pot pie, sirloin steak and chicken Parma. Delicious! Great atmosphere too. Will be back!

Was a great place to eat very fast and efficient and reasonably priced. Would go again. Steak and cheese balls were good Burger was good I did not like the mustard but that's just me and the chocolate bread pudding was excellent very filling. Not too many options for vegetarians but still ok would recommend looking online at the menu

Staff very nice but food is woeful. Pizza $23 with few bits of chopped tomato, one of them no one was sure what the topping was. Not good at all would never eat there again.

I have had nothing but a great experience here! They even let me bring my leashed dog to the outside area which I never knew! It's a good ambiance, can be busy sometimes but out of all the local pubs and restaurants this is probably one of my favourites.<br/>They have a wide variety of food and bar snacks, which is a good value and taste amazing!<br/>The staff are always friendly and attentive. Large portions and came out in a reasonable time, around 15 minutes after we have ordered. One negative comment I have to say is regarding the service. One of the staff started taking plates from the table that we were still eating from which we found quite rude. At least ask first before taking out anything! Seemed like he wanted the customers out of the place faster!

Went to The good home on Lincoln road for date night, I got the 300g rump steak w salad and fries. The salad and mushroom sauce was yummy but the fries were undercooked and the steak was really dry. For the price we paid I don’t feel like it was worth it. We also got seafood chowder which was above average, and the nachos were a solid 3/10. We were definitely full but not off of the greatest foods. Couple drinks as well which were good, but I don’t think we’d return here, not for the food anyway. Service was good. Bit too pricey for the quality but all good.

Only 3 staff we could see working Sunday evening at 6.30pm, menu said meals came with Fies etc, but they did not ?Waiter didnt  know what came with meals. Averagely slow for an empty restaurant. Food was ok but not worth the $32 for pork belly ( side puray was luke warm not hot)  then you had to pay $ 8 for a small bowl of std chips and also etc for a "MUM" made ordinary coleslaw, On the Loan Star Slaw 1 to 10 rating it was about 4, my kids ( 15 yrs) said they wouldnt mind not going again, Back to Lone Star New Lynn .

I often stop here for a working lunch either by myself or with a colleague -staff are always super friendly which is nice & meals are always quick and tasty!

A great place for family and drinks with mates the food is amazing. highly recommend it. the steaks are the best i have had will be going back soon.

The service was really good but the new menu that got rid of the platters, left a lot to be desired. The $30+ mains left a foul aftertaste, the pork belly was especially difficult to eat with overpowering sour and bitter flavours. The steak was dry but the ribs were at an acceptable standard. At least the mains were filling but I will not be returning :( .

Great place to take kids, but food was awful! <br/>$32 for a tiny bit of pork belly and some pumpkin purée (more like soup), my husband is still really annoyed! <br/>Chicken burgers were ok, but were like what you’d make at home. <br/>Would go back for a drink and maybe bar snacks.. wouldn’t go for a family meal again.

Great food at The Good Home. Atmosphere is fabulous here! The staff are really helpful and if you stay at the hotel this is the place that caters to you for room service. Prices are a little too high if your planning to go here everyday for lunch and dinner so I would highly recommend for a good night out or a special occasion.

Love the good home, the environment is so nice and the outside seating is very comfy. We got jalapeno poppers, they had a really nice spice to it and the sauce was really nice as well 8/10. The curly fries were absolutely delicious 10/10. Got a couple of cocktails 9/10. The cheesy bread was nice a little bit harder than I expected 6.5/10. Would definitely come back, love the environment and the customer service was fantastic and our food came out in a timely manner.

My family and I have been here quite a few times during the weeknight and found the overall experience pretty ok. Food is good most of the time and the portions to dollar value is great. Customer service isn't the greatest but not visiting to have a deep and meaningful with the staff so it's not a bother. If ordering the steak I do suggest keeping an eye out for it - all the meals take a decent amount of time to come out but have found on several occasions that it was served last and 20 minutes or so after everyone else's dishes had arrived. Always scoff into the food before catching a snap but here's a quick snapshot of the grazing platter.

Went for lunch on a Saturday and it wasn’t too busy. Food took a really long time to come (considering there was barely anyone else there), and it was pretty disappointing. Chicken wings were over cooked and leathery, chicken pie didn’t have any flavour and the filling sat in a runny soup at the bottom. <br/>Even ordering drinks took a while, it took 10-15 minutes for one cocktail even though there were no other customers at the bar and the staff were behind the bar not doing anything at the time. <br/><br/>Really disappointed, don’t think I will be going there again :(

Was having a few drinks on an outing and decided to get some tea at the same time. This location used to be Bar 159 and has been renovated and changed. Interior decor is dark but has "pop culture" themes with pictures of famous kiwi's. The bathroom is also renovated and clean. Seems to be a welcoming establishment not just for drinks but for meals and children too as I did see a couple while dining here. <br/><br/>I had the Homemade Angus Beef Burger. It was certainly a tasty and filling burger. I would love to come back and try some other items on the meal. Great place if you are wanting a place to catch up with friends and family for drinks or a feed.

This is such a cool place, it definetly gravitates to the pub feel so the food will go down great with a beer or two.<br/>The service is pretty good also.<br/><br/>

Took the family there foe a Saturday afternoon lunch and it was great. The area for the kids was excellent and the service was great. Good food offer with something for everyone.

Good place for a meal with a few friends especially if you have kids because they have a good kids area. Service is good except for the long wait for food to arrive. Portions sizes are quite big, but nothing special about the quality and taste of food so I think their charges are too high with everything taken into account.

Really good service, really good pulled pork burger. Brook's full of ****. Went here with an old friend today and had a really good pub feed and beer. Decent.

Amazing cocktails! The kiwi and peachy are my favourites for sure. 🍑🥝 <br/>Cocktails are very affordable, $12 for all choices. <br/>I love how cheap they are, makes it easier to buy multiple 👍🏻💰

Came here with my partner for a dinner out as I have been to the branch in birkenhead which was really good so thought to try out the henderson one since we were out those ways.<br/>No one welcomed us, we just walked in went to the bar as we couldnt see anyone to approach and waited at the bar as everyone had there hands full.<br/>The lady just told us to pick a table. The atmosphere is pretty cool with some random quirky deco.<br/>Ordered a few cocktails and dinner.<br/>I ordered the ribs, and my partner ordered the chicken which I absolutely envied because his looked devine.<br/>My ribs were really mediocre, quite dry and tough and the sauce was quite thick and the waste was really weird. I am a ribs fanatic, and those really let me down to the point i didnt finish it.<br/>My partner who ordered the chicken was soo good, i ended up demolishing his. The chicken was hot and tender and on a bed of mashed potatoes and veg. So so good!<br/>I dont think ill be back anytime soon, but if I were to come back I would try something else on the menu maybe. For what we paid it was a bit pricey and didnt have any wow factor.

First visit:<br/><br/>Nachoes: Delicious but small <br/><br/>Carrot Soup: more cream than carrots and the side bread was stale and poor quality. <br/><br/>Mussels 1kg pot: delicious but pricey. <br/><br/><br/>The ANGUS BURGERS WITH FRIES! : a huge disappointment. Fries soaked in oil, the meat was odd , no seasoning , tasted like Kofta. Oh and we waited 40 minutes for it.

So the mrs wanted to go out for dinner tonight and she chose "The Good home" on Lincoln Rd. As we walked in were kindly greeted and quickly seated. Got our drinks quick smart and gave us enough time to choose our meals. The meals took about 40min but we were happy with that cause the place was packed. The staff were very attentive and we had awesome food. The Mrs pizza was really good and my Steak cooked to perfection. At the end of the day all people want to know is was it good enough to go back and i say.... "Hell yeah" We thanked the staff for their service and gave them a tip and we will defs be back. If you dear to try a 500g steak with chips and salad, then go to "The good home" on Lincoln road.

Our family of four really didn't feel this place justified the current rating, hence this review.  The meals weren't delivered particularly fast, but it was a sunday night and there were a couple of groups ahead of us so that's to be expected.  That's the only negative-ish thing I have to say...  The service was prompt and friendly.  The kids were given some colouring pencils and paper.  We ordered the pizza and lamb salad (both were very good, and decent portions), and our eldest child ordered the chicken strips - which came with a very simple but tasty salad that got finished - after initially saying he didn't want salad with his order.  Cost us about $120 for two adults, two kids, a drink per person, and three deserts.  Really nice interior, and spots inside to suit whatever your need (we could see armchairs, bar stools, family tables etc)

Slow, slow and ummm slow... meals aren't that great so I don't know what all the hype is about.. Ribs are the worst and I LOVE ribs. I'd probably come here for a beer if it wasn't so expensive. Their tryna have that Ponsonby feel.. I'd rather the old bar 159 vibe
