Review Thai Peninsula - Henderson

Melissa General Naturopathic Practitioner
We were recommended Thai Peninsular and what a great place for a meal. We were greeted, seated, and given cold water not long after we walked in. We loved the decor. The seats are clean & comfortable, we really loved both of the accent walls. The music was subtle and easy listening. The lemon, lime & bitters we ordered was perfectly balanced between sour & bitter. The starters were juicy, full of flavour with the best pastry crunch. They came with wonderfully made sauces & a little garnish that made the appititizers just that much more appitizing. The sliced duck Thai green curry was absolutely yum. The curry was creamy & had a nice warmth to it. There was a lovely supply of different vegetables & the duck was cooked wonderfully. Although I would call the sliced duck, duck chunks. The mud cake was not as decadent as I hoped, but it was fluffy, and I was given a very generous slice. The meal was served seamlessly and apart from a slightly slower service for dessert everything arrived in good time.

Loved the atmosphere. Best dinning experience for a Thai restaurant. Free parking very close to the restaurant. Tables and place where well arranged. Clean and tidy place. I got Pad Thai pork which was really sweet. But the Pad Thai beef was yum. Food and costumer service where the best. Money was kind of reasonable. Would come back for sure.

Love them, go there often with my husband and always order the same thing each week. Paneng curry + Pad See Ew dishes are very authentic and nice. Staff are always accomodating as often we forget to call and sometimes order when they’re about to close but they always got us. Cheers. Best authentic thai in West!

Good handy location, close to Lincoln Road motorway off ramp in West Auckland, right next to Texas Chicken, ample parking spaces right at the front but fills up quickly during peak time, say 1145am onwards. Very very yummy dishes, authentic Thai food, they have been around over last 2 years. Lots of spaces inside, usually Thai restaurants are small to Medium size, this one is huge inside which means there are a lot of tables, couch seats etc to cater for all group sizes. We loved the food, serving size is good so good value for money - lunch specials..and will return again.

Recently found 'Thai Peninsula', nice decor, great food and good size meals and reasonably priced. Friendly staff and good service. Recommend the Thai Green Curry and steaming beef.

Excellent customer service, delicious Thai food and lovely social atmosphere. They even organised a special cake for my dads bday. Thank you!!! Btw, best chocolate cake we've had in a long time.

Great food and great service. The only small thing I would like to comment on is that it doesn't have a great ambiance. Lighting too harsh and it has a canteen feel about it. None the less, very clean and the food was amazing.
Jesse
Place is nice, plenty of seating, and comfortable. Good food, no complaints there. There is a vegetarian menu with 2 vegan options that are also shown in the lunch menu, however vegan dishes are not labelled so I had to ask. While the food is good, the dish I ordered was a little lacklustre compared to other non-vegan, and I will be trying the other one next time. Moderate pricing, but not overly expensive. Located in a plaza with a lot of parking and other food options nearby depending on taste.

Our second visit and the meal was perfect. I am not a vegetable fan but the meal I chose was perfect. The mixed seafood was lovely, not too spicy amd only a few vegetables

We eat a lot of Thai food and this is one of the best. It's easily underestimated. My suggestion is to see for yourself..... I'm not a "duck" fan but we shared dishes with a group of 7 and it was amazing..... Also, I don't usually eat lamb because it is often tough. Not at Penisula Thai, it just melted in my mouth. Overall - an excellent experience. Thank you Peninsula Thai.. (23 June 2023)

Dinner with friends on Saturday. The standard of food is excellent with beautiful presentation and taste.the service was attentive even with the place being packed with happy diners. We have visited Thai peninsula over a number of years and I believe that they are growing from strength to strength. You have to book as it is very popular.

We had 14 people for a banquet meal delicious food and great service in a timely manner

I noticed all the people doing reviews are not Thai, my friends and our Thai wife's came on Saturday night we four adults 2 Children. First time there and very disappointed, the reasons were basil stir fry so salty it was unbearable, the whole fish dish was not that fresh and both Thai wives rejected it. Service was slack we arrived at 6.30pm had our entrees at 7.15 and it was 8.30 before we got our mains, with two young children that was not acceptable. The entrees were good but overall a big disappointment as we wanted to find a local Thai restaurant our wife's would like to visit. Yes we understand when the clientele is mainly Farangs but certainly not up to standard for Thais Especially after having such authentic Thai food at Mai Thai in the City

Awesome Thai food, great service and friendly staff. Highly recommended

First time visiting this restaurant. Very friendly staff. Lovely food. Very impressed.

Good appetizers a main...wife won't ordering noodles again though...not to her liking.

Delish best Thai I have had

Enjoyed my visit and meal but had to repeat orders several times as some servers don’t speak English well. Also found the menu made it hard to make a choice as everything looked the same and you had to read the detail to find out what in each item was different

Newly opened Thai restaurant in the heart of West Auckland. As you enter, everything looks clean, fresh and well decorated. Ordered 4 mains courses and and entree. The green curry was the best out of all of them, just the right amount of spice and coconut. I found the duck Ka Ta sauce (sizzling plate dish) a bit too sweet while the duck slices itself were too salty for my liking and portion was also on the smaller side. The tom yum seafood dish wasn’t bad, had a good amount of seafood however the lemon grass was
a little too overpowering for the dish. Perhaps this dish would have been nicer if it was tom yum flavoured dry stir fry. Garlic beef and fried tofu were both good. Overall, good restaurant out west if you are looking for Thai food but I’ve had better.Perhaps just a bit of tweaking to their dishes would make a big difference.
Kicky
I ordered pad thai and asked for genuine/authentic thai taste. However it taste too sweet. Absolutely not comparable with others and not for me.
Steph Alford
Amazing food! Served nice and hot (via UberEats delivery!). Red curry with beef had just the right kick of spice. Curry puffs were lovely. Superb food. Must be a popular one in the block!

Ordered a pad thai for lunch.
Disappointing!! Not the usual quality of food I have come to expect from this place. The noodles were gluggy, the sauce tasted like sweet and sour out of a packet, no flavour whatsoever and wheres the prawn? I could have made a better dish. I rang the restaurant to tell them and their response was pretty blase.
If you want a good pad thai go to Thai Flavour - thee best. Unfortunately they were closed hence why I came here.

I have been getting takeaways for years from here, but last night was disappointing....why so many carrots and baby sweetcorn in your dishes....that was it in the veges area...taste was nice but please add a bit more green veges into your stir fry dishes..don't go cheap Thai Peninsula

I wanted be as constructive as possible with this review but in short everything needs to be looked at here from wait service to food preparation. I have had two meals here that I have paid for and been here a few with times with friends, Everytime I have dined here it has always ended in disappointment. Do not recommend.

Best Thai food in West Auckland 👍👍👍👍 serviceman the dood is always 100% and they try and squeeze you in for dinner at short notice.Would highly recommend this place to first time people as you will not be let down.
Beautyitchnz
Food was nice but we did not finish everything and asked for a doggy bag. They left out the rice even though we had plenty of it left over. Will not be going back, absolute kill buzz when we got home.
Adi Wardoyo
Excelent meal. Everything we ordered are great. Ask for medium i stead of mild in term of spiciness. The waitress are attentive. They pass our table many times offering more rice. The place is modern.
Mikayla Grace Clegg
Honestly so good. The food was amazing. The staff's customer service was on point. The price was decent for the amount of food you got. Even did my lunch the next day

Awesome BYO place if you are out west and don't want to head into the city for a nice wine and good food. The staff are extremely tolerable, I say this because I was mostly just downright impressed with how they handled me and my roudy crowd. I mean that they're friendly and professional enough to put us in our place without being rude about it, please don't go there just to get lit.
The food is wonderful and good value for money. It's a bigger restaurant so plenty of room and nice decor. Definitely recommend coming here, would be nice for a birthday or celebration!
Jmo
I’ve been here several times. The food is tasty and the prices are reasonable for what you get. Portions are good. One suggestion is that they give more rice to eat with your meal. The service has always been attentive and friendly. I would recommend.
A Foodie
The food tasted good overall. However, we found hair in our fish dish!!! This is a bit disgusting... when we notified this to the waitress, she did not even say sorry to us!!! We have also ordered a beer and a glass of white wine with the meal. The beer is good, nice and cold. The white wine is so little. We went there with the entertainment book voucher, but will not go there again.
Hungry*Panda
Both food and service are pretty average. The drinks turned up really quickly but when it came to the food, it took us quite long to get someone's attention. We have heard good things about this place before but sadly we got the opposite experience.
Re Che
Haven’t ate on site had takeaway, food was really tasty and good portions. I had a Entertainment voucher but the lady didn’t seem to like it ! Overall food was good will definitely go back.

Some of the best thai I've ever had. Fantastic spring rolls and satay. Curry to die for. Highly recommend trying their whole fish, full of flavour

Stepped in and was welcomed by friendly staff who showed us to our table without a fuss. The menu was clear to read and I knew what I wanted straight away. I only really order Pad Thai if I was to go to a Thai restaurant. So I got chicken Pad Thai and Spring rolls.

The food came relatively quickly and the presentation was nice. I would say the portions are a bit small for the price but were definitely well worth it! It tasted really good and everything was fresh and hot.

Service was excellent as they came round several times to fill our glasses with water without ask having to ask!

The interior is modern and clean and overall it was a great experience!

Food 7.5/10
Service 8.5/10
Ambience 7/10
Price 6.5/10

will never recommend anyone to this place. as soon as we entered we were rushed and asked to place order. after we got drinks and entree on the table,we were asked to order mains several times though we just ordered the entree. were disgusted and uneasy and left for another nearby restaurant. even the body language was potraying the message to just enter eat and leave.
Indypindy05
I came here for my birthday and I absolutely loved it. My family enjoyed every bit of it. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly, and the place was very clean
TheGoodKiwi Nz
Pedestrian -not startling- Thai food. Nicely served by waitresses in traditional dress. Bit of a wait between started and main course about an hour. BYO a advantage. We had prawns stir-fry, sizzling beef, chicken stir-fry. At least wasn't full of cabbage as some Thai restaurants are.
Sammy
Snapper was amazing and the chicken red curry is delish! The portion of rice is quite small and you have to pay more for another scoop. Overall, lovely restaurant, beautiful food and great staff. It is on the expensive side however worth every dollar.
Couple Of Cheap Westies
I love this place! I've been here once and would definitely be back in no time! The Thai is very authentic and the service is great! A lovely little restaurant in little old Te Atatu 💛
Yu
We go there sometimes and always love it!
We got take away for the first time tonight. Ordered a yellow curry and pad Thai. It was tasty but potato was missing in the curry so there were only beef and onion... that was a bit disappointing but otherwise it was good as usual!
Chai Paani
The food here is delish! Took the in-laws here for dinner on a Friday night, it was packed but we had made a reservation before hand so our table was waiting. There were a few large groups celebrating birthdays so noise levels were high and service was slow but the 4 wait staff kept their cool and were pleasant to deal with. Tried the deep fried snapper, yellow chicken curry, garlic & pepper stir fry with prawns and the garlic and pepper chicken sizzler, everything was awesome. The starters of veg spring rolls and rice paper wrapped prawns were stock standard but nice.
Jesse
Great place for quality Thai dining. The mains are generously portioned and full of flavour. I went for a duck stir fry with extra meat. The dish was a very filling and the duck was cooked perfectly. Both friends I went with had different currys and were very happy with their meals also. Reasonable prices will definitely be back.

We had our first impression of Thai Peninsula tonight and man, what a good first impression!. I could not fault it, hence the rating. The inside of the restaurant is nice. The staff were reasonably attentive. The food was excellent and generous in portion size. My GF ordered a meal with cashew nuts in it. In some restaurants you will be lucky to count 10 nuts in your meal. But here, I think they put half a packet in! We were amazed and happy with this generous attitude. My Panang was excellent, full of flavour and when I asked for rice it was served hot, both times (yes I got a second plate of rice, and yes I am full!). The can of softdrink was refrigerated and they gave the can rather than pouring a small drink and keeping the rest. Again, generous and whilst there is the usual markup on drinks, it feels good to feel you are getting good value for money. All in all, really happy with our meals tonight and we will go back for sure.

Thai Peninsula is one of my favourite places! It has all the right things - great Thai food, it's BYO, it's close to home & the staff are lovely! The first time I visited Thai Peninsula was a few years back & I was blown away by the ambience, the quality of the food, the service, and how busy it was! Which says a lot about how great it is. I still go there regularly, to dine in or grab the occasional takeaways. Thai Peninsula has just gone from strength to strength - I've never had a bad experience there.
Jan
Lovely restaurant with delicious flavoursome food!! And the exceptional service was the icing on the cake for our night out at this place. The waitstaff are attentive even though it was a very busy night. We ordered several dishes and unfortunately forgot to advise the waitress that our aunty was allergic to mushrooms. When the dishes came out we requested if we could get the curry without mushroom and that wasn't too much trouble and they made it happen without a fuss! Would highly recommend this place to family and friends!

Just moved to the peninsula and relieved to find the local thai place is a really good one. Only had take-aways a couple of times from here but the quality is really good. The duck dishes are better than the usual mostly duck-fat dishes you get out west in other places with nice bits of meat and very tender/great flavours. I have noticed the restaurant is well decorated and the staff are nicely dressed and friendly. Looking forward to dining in the actual restaurant next time
Chris Mcneill
A good evening in this busy local Thai house. Warm comfortable surroundings and fast efficient service. We had a chilli novice with us so couldn't go for the nose running heat we would normally prefer , but the food was plentiful and tasty none the less.
Sungsam7
The beef for the Massaman curry was a bit on the chewy side and I didn't particular my think it was the best Massaman curry is sampled. The sizzling chicken dish was better but a bit in the greasy side was the sauce. The fried rice dish was lively yes lively to my tastebuds.
The place fills with locals no doubt which is great. The service was attentive for a very busy meal service.
Great local thai. Can byo. Does pay to book as it definitely gets busy esp on a fri nite. Service is quick and friendly. Water filled frequently. Dishes served in good timing. Great size portions for the money, I can only just finish a main and I'm a big eater. Everything always seems very fresh. Thai is not my first choice but I always really enjoy my meals here. My only problem is that they have a large takeaway business aswell and I feel that should be kept a bit more separate. It feels like there is constantly people squeezing past your table to get their take out and also when you go to pay there is a huge cue of people paying for their phone orders and you feel like you're standing halfway in the restaurant while you wait. Great food though just being picky as usual!
Katie Stone
Definitely the best Thai food I've had in NZ! I usually shy away from Asian restaurants because of the amount of MSG they use, which makes me gag. But Thai Peninsula promised they did not use MSG - and sure enough, my Pad Met Ma Muang was fantastic and definitely MSG-free! Lovely restaurant and great service. Will be back!
Paul Burnham
We have only used the takeaway service but we cant fault the food. We love the fact we have such good quality Thai food on the peninsula. We have been going here for 18 months now and have never had a bad experience. Staff are always friendly too even when they are obviously very busy.
Sheena
I have dined at Thai Peninsula so many times and can safely say that they do the best Thai food in the west. It's a bold claim, but everything I have ordered here has been faultless. Service is also pretty good as well!

I have tried quite a few dishes. The pad khing, deep fried whole snapper, Tom yum goong, pad thai are all delicious. One of our new favourite appetizers as well is the deep fried prawn cutlets. They were so good!

The decor is also quite modern, and is good for a gathering with friends or possibly even a date night. Can't wait for my next trip here!
Angie
Best Thai restaurant is West Auckland! Great atmosphere, food and friendly staff. Went here on Saturday night and it was packed,we were thinking we would have to get take away. However, we managed to get a table and were so happy we did because the atmosphere was really nice. A guy at the table across the room had a birthday and all the lights were turned off and the whole restaurant sang him happy birthday! The food has to be some of the best Thai food I have ever had! The Tom Ka Gai soup has the most amazing flavour and loads of fresh vegetables. I also had the red duck curry which was absolutely delicious. It had amazing flavour, fresh seasonal vegetables, a generous amount of perfectly cooked duck and the perfect amount of heat. I will definitely be making drive out to Te atatu to get all my Thai takeaway from now on.
Miranda Salvidge
Yummiest Thai food!!! Such lovely staff!! Nice warm and friendly environment!!! Didn't have to wait long at all we love getting food from here!
Andrew Lewis
I found this place randomly with one of my friends and really enjoyed the meal very fast and efficient service delicious food and food for value would recommend this place just ensure to make a booking on weekends as it is a popular dinning restaurant
Loretta Sua Chang
A friend had recommend we go there as they said the food was fabulous. I took my family there and unfortunately I was quite disappointed. It must of been a busy night as most of the tables were full. There was not much room between tables, so not a good place to take someone if you wanted an intimate dinner? The staff were friendly and helpful, but we did have to wait awhile for our food. Unfortunately the food was not very nice. My chicken dish was dry and under seasoned. My husbands meat dish was a bit tough and not seasoned well. Sorry but would not look to go there again.
Ken
We've been to Thai Peninsula quite a few times over the last couple of years, keeping our visits usually for special occasions. Unfortunately our visit last night revealed lower standards than our previous visits. The wait staff were not the same high standard staff we've had before, sloppily dressed and inattentive (with an almost empty restaurant) this time. The doors were wide open to the restaurant making it too cold to sit comfortably on a summers evening, we had to ask twice for a door to be closed. 'More FM' radio was blasting through their speakers, killing any Thai ambience. The white material table cloths under the white paper were dirty, grubby and soiled where they were exposed to patrons sitting at the table and the walls actually had remnants of food splatter. The food was good, faultless, which is why I've given them 2 stars and not 1, but I won't be taking our family back there again as it's not the same better than average Thai place it use to be.
Dan Miles
This is our favorite Thai place. Great value for money, great service - eat in for take out. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Great family atmosphere - we have three young children and it doesn't seem to phase them.
Helen Williams
Great menu. Everything that we ordered was delicious. The service was also excellent with very helpful and friendly staff. It was a cold night and the restaurant was nice and cosy. Nice atmosphere.
It was our first visit and we will defintely go again.
Rosie Kaye
Faith restored. I had written a review at the start of the year saying that this restaurant had gone downhill in terms of quality but having given it another go a couple of times lately, it is back on top with great tasting, high quality food. I am really happy that the Thai Peninsula is back to its best and is definitely one of the best Thai restaurants in the whole of Auckland if not NZ.
Julia Cossey
I have never dined in this restaurant but have ordered and taken it away. I think it is the best place in the peninsula and very affordable, we always get the same dishes take away it costs us 23 dollars for two trays of food and feeds both me and my partner. I would like to say we have never had a bad meal yet and I will keep going there until I don't like it. I think it deserves 5 stars, well done Thai Peninsula you are the best.
Candy Boy Food Journey
I've been going to Thai Restaurant for a year now; it is simply my favorite Thai restaurant in this area. And I think I've tried them all!

Their main dishes are nicely spiced, and adjustable for Western palates.

The service is sometimes a bit let down but good food makes it for us. The restaurant is always quiet and the atmosphere is pleasing and relaxing.
Selina Chan
A great Thai place in Peninsula, have taken family and workmates there. Food is amazing I've always had good meals there.
Bridgette Gladwin
Great food, everything lovely and fresh, excellent service, with lovely staff, but the food stands out just as much as the staff - would eat here every night if I could!! food was very Thai, authentic, and so delicious, and their takeaway menu, just as good, have had 3 takeaways to date and each dish georgeous, so impressed with restaurant as they are very quick, didn't have to wait long, and takeaway was even quicker service, thank you to the owner and staff for a very quality restaurant.
Chelsea
Went with my father, and loved it. I ordered a chicken dish with rice while he ordered a beef curry. The food was plentiful and reasonably price, staff were lovely despite the fact they didn't speak great English. Rice was plentiful, ambience was great. Loved it, will be back.
Jodi Walker
Best Thai food I have ever had. Have eaten in several times and found the staff friendly and quick. Take aways are great and always ready when they say they will be. YUM!
Anon
This is the best Thai food I have ever had. I used to go there a lot when living in the area and now that I am living close by again I am savouring the next meal already! Really good service smiles and nice modern setting and colours. Great that they do takeaway too.
Libby
Have dined in a few times, and have regular take out. Food always amazing (especially the pepered garlic beef). Service great. No complaints from this happy customer!
Rad
Great food, great service!
Christine
I have been to here several times and have always had good service and delicious food. I last here dined last Friday night. Even though the restaurant was very busy - just about full, the service was excellent and the meal was delicious. I will definitely be going back.
Kathy
My friends , family and I have eaten there several times over the past 3 years and have only ever had great attentive service and excellent food. Admittedly I don't think we have ever been on a Friday or a Saturday night, but we have had both weeknight and week day experiences and I have often recommended this restaurant to my business acquaintances too. My most recent meal was at the beginning of this month.
Denis Smith
I came to the restaurant looking for somewhere relaxing and with good food.I got everything that I wanted that night and that was service, and excellent food.I recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for this type of food and service
Rebecca
The food has always been very good and the takeaway time also really good. But with regard to the customer service I have noticed several times people are not served in the order of their arrivals(orders made) and long waiting time. I think it is due to a discriminatory attitude towards people of different ethnicity which cannot be tolerated and we have given up in house dining but still would recommend for the quality of the food.
Raj_NZ
We went there for Mother's Day. We had the worst ever dinign experience. The service was pathetic/unacceptable.

We waited 1hr and 15 for our mains. Upon asking the waiter said they had mixed up the order with another table (i.e. people arriving after us had eaten and leaving).

There was no apology for their bad service.

We ended up leaving without a meal.

Crap service. Would not recommend to anyone.
Radhika Reddy
Well we had the worst Mother's day dinner there last night. We had a booking for 5.30pm ...as we have little children and wanted to be out of there by 7.30 to 8.00pm at the latest. Our entree did arrive quickly .... then we waited for an hour for the mains, which didn't arrive so we paid for the entree and drinks and left at 7pm (without having our meal). In the mean time the takeout containers were leaving the restaurant like crazy. Even on asking and being told that the mains would arrive in 5 minutes, which didn't happen we left hungry. My 2 year old daughter was so hungry she was standing at the door saying "back home". Terrible service. Surely the people in the restaurant take priority over the people having take outs.
Steph
Have eaten in a number of times and the food and service has always been very good.

However, if you order takeaways they always say ready in 15 mins, when in actual fact it usually takes 30 to 35.
Clare
Highly recommend, have eaten here many times over the past 3 years and have never had a bad experience. Service is excellent, food is fantastic!
Brent
Have Eaten here many many times-never had a bad meal.would recommend.
Jan
