Review Fat Pipi Pizzas - Hokitika

Its Jess!
Had the Mexican pizza without jalapeño- it was great! So busy inside that I sat on the couch/waiting area so larger groups van have the bigger tables. Lots of pick up and dine in and service is transparent about the wait time based on demand

Great whitebait pizza! Other meaty flavours were also good. Vegetarian ones were a bit bland.

Excellent first experience We visited Fat Pipi pizza for dinner on a weekend in late October. We had a vegetarian pizza and a vegetarian soup. Both dishes were nice and the service was prompt and courteous. We were served by Nanditha. We will be happy to dine here again and also happy to recommend this place to anyone.

Pizza here is really awesome! Big portion and serving just nice for 2. All ingredients are fresh and juicy! Really love the thin crust there. Tip: Order early, as early as when the stall is open, do make a call to order your pizzas because the waiting time can be quite long. It is also just 5mins away from the Hokitika beach and it's all the right time to catch the beautiful sunset while waiting the pizzas to be ready. Highly recommended!

Truly amazed by the pizza flavor and chowder soup as well. Highly recommend!

Pretty solid pizza. The large four cheese pizza was really good though it had pesto which I personally found odd but it was tasty nonetheless. The garlic bread was super good, very soft and full of flavour. Service was excellent and the pie was ready in about 15 minutes. They have super comfy couches you can wait on as well which was a great plus

We ordered the seafood chowder and Whitebait pizza for 2 to share. The pizza was interesting, and the lemon added a good tangy touch to the flavour. They had sofa seats which was nice and it is very big group friendly.

That was a HUGE pizza. Very, very filling, the pair of us could only eat half of it. And super tasty, with plenty of toppings. The garlic bread side was just how we like it, soft, dripping with butter. Yum. 12 out of 10.

The pizza is nice. One of the best I ever tried even compared to other countries. The specialty is the whitebait pizza it taste good even to a person who is Not really a fan of white bait. Ordered Bbq chicken, tomato soup and whitebait. All did not disappoint. The coffee is great.

Had the whitebait pizza which was really delicious. The seafood chowder tasted better with a bit more salt but had lots of seafood which was fantastic.

It is a popular place both for take out and eat in. For eat in order at the counter, get a number and they bring it to you when it’s ready. You help yourself to cutlery, napkins and water. They take credit cards but with a surcharge. They have a large selection of pizza varieties. Many are creative in their ingredient combinations. The pizzas come in two sizes medium ($22) and large ($28). The large is a good size for two people. Large pizzas can be ordered with halves of two different types for $32. We got the mariner which has a variety of seafood- shrimp, mussels, smoked salmon and fish along with capers and red onions and the Greenpiece vegetarian pizza which has a good amount of various vegetables (mushrooms, spinach, olives, zucchini and red onion) and roasted red pepper pesto along with feta cheese over the mozzarella. It was tasty. Their salad is very good and recommended. Beside the indoor tables, there is covered outdoor seating at picnic type tables. They have dried hot peppers and black pepper to add to your pizza but unfortunately no powdered garlic or oregano (which are standard in pizzerias back in New York City where I come from).

We ordered takeaway pizzas here, but on picking them up and seeing the venue I wish we'd dined in. Fat Pipi have actually invested in their decor to create a nice space, whereas many other food venues in Hokitika and Greymouth seem to go for the cheap canteen look. The lady we spoke to was very helpful, particularly when my wife asked for a gluten free pizza. We were then asked specifically if my wife was coeliac and the lady confirmed back to us "one coeliac gluten free pizza" and reconfirmed it on pick up. The food was ready in 25 minutes exactly as promised, and it was delicious. We had a T-Rex pizza and a salmon pizza and I'd recommend both, particularly the thin and crispy base. My wife also enjoyed the gluten free base. Couple of things to note - the gluten free pizza at $30 is one size only. It's the same size as a medium regular pizza at $25. Their large regular pizza is $30. The garlic bread is small, as stated on the menu, with four slices.

Came for dinner on Monday. Sadly whitebait pizza was unavailable. Portofino & T-Rex pizza were OK. Chicken lickn had interesting ingredients. Pizzas had nice crispy bases.

Had their whitebait pizza signature dish. Absolutely delicious, with a crisp base, mozzarella, whitebait, capers, parsley & lemon wedges. Busy, even though it was a Wednesday night in September. Great decor. Had to wait quite a while for 1 pizza, but they were going as fast as they could. Nice fresh garden salad too. Worth a visit.

This place was recommended to us in Moana, pizza was well worth it, cool place apart from waitress who made an extreme racial comment after I mentioned how busy they were, that is not cool!!! Remember your customers are paying your wages.

Lots of locals, which is normally a good sign. We had to wait almost an hour for our pizza. They told us before, great communication. We had a couple of beers and did some planning for the next week. What made this place really interesting for us, a couple came and sat down at the same table. It turned out they where the co-authors of the Lonely Planet. They provided us with heaps and heaps of tips. And they even signed our LP for us. BTW the pizza was well worth to wait for ;)

What a ripoff! When we went in there, there was no warm welcome at all. In fact, the staff barely registered our presence. I had to say "Excuse me" twice before the lady came to the counter and to be honest, she treated us more like we were an inconvenience rather than paying customers. Nevertheless, we decided to order the 'famous' Whitebait pizza (which only came in a medium size) and a T-rex meaty pizza in a large. Those two pizzas plus a bottle of wine came to over $90! I've never paid so much for pizza in my life!! When they arrived, the Whitebait pizza was almost totally flavourless. We had to add loads of seasoning ourselves just to get anything out of it. It was dry and really disappointing. The T-Rex was ok, but totally slathered in a very sweet BBQ sauce, perhaps to cover up for the very measly serving of meat on it. A very overpriced and underwhelming experience indeed!

Love Fat Pipi’s Pizza it is always amazing and a great place to eat and take family!

Yummy pizza with a lovely garden area at the back so that we could bring our little furry friend with us. Only criticism would be that you have to queue to put your order in, which is fine, but then if you want another drink, you have to queue again to order it. Luckily, our waitress broke the rules and brought us more drinks. Good experience and would certainly return on our next visit to Hokitika.

Ordered the most amazing whitebait pizza! !! Queues of people right out to street! Very popular place. Great taste!!!

Extremely rude customer service- the worst in NZ. Very average pizzas at a high price. Close at 9pm even on Saturday night officially but don't be surprised to be told off when you walk in at 8.30. There is also a long period of closure in the afternoon. If you have been exposed to NZ hospitality- don't even think of visiting this place.

Got a table, the server asked to place my order and then when I’d finished my order she told me the restaurant was closed (all of a sudden). Very poor service and disappointing as I’ve heard lots of good things about the food at this place

I used to hate pizzas. But not anymore as long as it's Fat Pipi's pizzas! We've had Magherita & Portifino halves, and I can't believe how pizzas can taste this awesome! Take note though that your clothes will smell pizza if you're eating there.

Was fantastic pizza's. We had a group of 12 and was no trouble. Make sure to save room for the yummy dessert pizza's as well.

Worst customer service I have ever had. Insted of being helped to be seated we were told to get out of the way. Pizza here might be good but one of the tray runners is a disgustingly rude lady. Lost 6 customers tonight and will loose plenty more
