Review Stumpers Bar And Cafe - Hokitika

During my visit to Stumpers Bar and Cafe on a Monday afternoon, I found it to be a convenient option despite limited vegetarian choices. While the menu didn't offer an extensive selection for vegetarians, the staff was accommodating and willing to make substitutions to accommodate my dietary preferences. The ambiance was pleasant, and the outdoor seating allowed me to enjoy the lovely surroundings. Stumpers' commitment to serving local ingredients and their friendly service added to the experience. While I would have appreciated more vegetarian options, I was grateful for a dining option on a day when few others were open.

Really nice atmosphere and very friendly prompt service. The squid entree would be the best I have ever had. A huge serving with super tasty coating. Very delicious. All three mains were amazing both in flavor and quantity no compromise on serving size. Beautiful plating and each dish outstanding. Price for value was excellent and an excellent pinot noir at a very reasonable price. This meal put some Hawkes Bay fancy establishments to shame in all categories. Well done, a very enjoyable experience.

Went there to try their white bait dish. Ours came as an omelette. It was nice but the egg taste overpowered the whitebait taste. Sitting outside is a nice idea as it tends to be noisy inside.

Big portion Soup of the day was really nice, it was some sort of potato soup. Garlic loaf & garlic butter were great too Too much fries 🫨 Can't appreciate the beetroot relish in the beef burger but the bun was pretty interesting!

Just WOW how good is the $24 Stumpers big breakfast. We drove around town looking for an open cafe and came across the pub. I’ve never eaten Breakfast at a pub before but this place certainly changed my view. A generous big breakfast cleverly plated with a big half a tomato ( currently $17 a kilo) and a couple of big mushrooms included. Great service, nice big warm area. I wish you every success you deserve to be the best Brekkie place in town. If you are in any doubt check out the display cabinets!!

Hokitika - cool little town; has apparently won awards for being Aotearoa’s most welcoming too. I couldn’t agree more. The Favourite Husband and I were the annoying early birds looking for hot coffee on a freezing morning. We decided to give Stumpers a go. I’m so glad we did. The ladies behind the counter were super cheerful and friendly. The coffee was good. Let me fast forward to the food. The eggs Benedict with bacon was perfect. Crispy bacon, perfect poached eggs and a delicious hollandaise. The Favourite Husband had his usual big breakkie and was not only silenced by it (thank the lord) but also beaten by it. Unless he’s coming down with something it must have been enormous to have defeated him clearing his plate! Great value for money too. Hokitika has been on my wish list for more years than I care to remember. I am finally here, in this beautiful little piece of paradise and this morning’s start to the experience at Stumpers got it off with a cheer and a wave. We’ll be back …

Stumpers had a much nicer feel to it than many places we've been lately. A decent menu range at decent prices. They did make an error with the meal but promptly fixed it which was lovely. The pumpkin soup is quite good, as is the bread and dip platter.

Good pub food that hit the spot on the night we were there. Not fancy but good quality food, great staff, quick service and very well run by the front of house staff, always cleaning and paying attention to everything going on. Would definitely return if we were in the area

Enjoyed our pit stop at Stumpers Bar & Cafe. Portion is on the generous side. Was served by friendly crew and we loved the atmosphere. The fish n chips n pizza were great!

Food portion is huge. 3 dishes for 5 adults and we have to take away the remaining. Definitely best dining experience in Hokitika. Good pork rib and slaw, recommend the Vege platter as well

We had a group of 12 and being a holiday weekend the staff did a fabulous job of seating us and getting all meals out promptly and all together. Food was delicious and well presented. Large servings. Would go back again.

We had a drink outside before heading off to our next adventure. Lovely service with a smile. Locals are welcoming.

Sat down for early dinner just after 5pm and had the chicken cajun salad and my partner had the lamb shank. Food and service was good but on the pricier side for what it was, though there weren't many other options in Hokitika on a Sunday night.

Good central location, staff are pleasant and helpful, open to making table arrangement changes for groups if space/tables are available. The meals are well presented, of generous proportion, and delicious. Although a little more pricey than I would normally go for well worth the few dollars extra.

Great place for supper. The lamb shanks are delicious! Service was prompt and friendly. It was a busy night so very noisy but we still enjoyed our meal!

Dog friendly must be on a leash outside. Table's outside were very busy. Walked around the town and came back around the hr, finding a free table outside . The beers were lovely and cold . We ordered a plate of pork ribs salid and chips . The ribs were cooked to perfection . Staff friendly and helpful .
