Unbelievable and absolutely amazing service. Accidentally dropped my coffee in my van and the nice lady made me a free one. Pies are delicious too šŸ‘

Have tried many dishes here, and can never fault the slices. They're beautiful as always. The omelet is exactly what you expect.

If you were either on your way to the washpen waterfalls or on your way to my Hutt for skiing, this place is a must stop over or even a destination!! The pies are seriously to die for and I'm picky with my pies! Coffees great too. Hard to complain about this place. Everything's great here. It is a must stop. Totally recommend!

Great replacement for the Hororata Pub that closed in 2010. Staff are lovely and the pies are absolutely too die for. Real pieces of melt in the mouth steak. These are better than the legendary Jackson's pies. Nice feel and great outdoor area in good weather. Outside pool table and darts board!!

Gave 4 stars simply because it was open Easter Monday. For a Cafe in the middle of nowhere the prices were the same as city, plus surcharge. Food was fine. They were understaffed but did a decent enough job considering. Could do with tidy up and upgrades to decor etc outside.

Will definitely be back, service was sensational! As the sign says "we treat you like a local" food was exceptional. 10/10

We were in town for the Glow festival and could not get an uber back to Christchurch, with network signal being a problem we went in at Hororata Village Bar and cafe and got tea to warm up. We were greeted with the warmest and hugest welcome. We were offered their WiFi and were able to call a taxi to come get us. Hororata Village Bar and cafe is a nice and cozy and although I did not have food to eat I would definitely go back because of the love and kindness shown.

Donā€™t believe the pretenders, the worlds best pies are sold here. Outstanding.

Their slogan is spot on, because they definitely make you feel like a local. The value for money is next to none and every meal we have had there has been a hit. Besides for the PIES, the Salmon Eggs Benedict is a must.

Typically had pies which were delicious decided to try the breakfast muffin. Really really tasty and great value for money when compared to a maccas one! Coffee could be better but no big deal! Perfect stop before hitting the mountain

I canā€™t speak highly enough of this fabulous wee cafe. We were hankering for a pie on our travels from Christchurch to Terrace Downs and stopped in for a quick bite. The three of us all agreed these were the best pies we had ever tasted! In fact, they were so good we got 3 to take away as well! The staff were very friendly, and Jason even took the time to come and chat with us after we raved so much over his pies. He is a butcher who is passionate about what he does - from the meat he selects, to how he cuts it, cooks it, and the flavours he combines. We are already planning our next trip back to Hororata Village Bar & Cafe. ā€œJason for Pie Minister!ā€

Mum and I are travelling the South Island, and we couldnā€™t speak highly enough of the lovely food we had there today. We had the beef pie with mashed potato, peas and gravy, and it was absolutely amazing! We happened upon the cafe by chance, would definitely be going back if weā€™re ever down this way again! The cafe itself has a lovely ambiance as well.

Just come back from a Valentine's Day picnic at the Rakaia Gorge. The bag (that you can't see as the photo has gone walkabouts), was provided by the Hororata Cafe and was honestly the nicest picnic I've ever had. The bag itself was decorated with hearts and ribbons and contained napkins, cutlery and the most delicious food. There was a hand written menu on the back of a handmade Valentine's card. Read it and weep! Menu: Platter for 2; salami, Camembert, bierstick, sundried tomato and olive chutney. Chicken and Camembert Sammie. Bacon and egg quiche with capsicum and apricot chutney. Hummingbird cake with yogurt. Heart shaped chocolates. We provided the fizzy wine and the location. Magic, Hororata Village Bar & Cafe !!!!

Thank you for your amazing kindness and generousity today. After spending the night in the car to avoid a possible tsunami your fantastic hospitality restored my families' confidence in the world around us.

This cafe makes all their own food - homebaking. The even bake their own pies. A real country pie called the Butchers Pie! The owner is a butcher. Loved it. Full of meat and lovely pastry. I had the Pie and Salad meal , my husband had the Pea Pie Pud with gravy. So lovely to have a wonderful country cafe serving good country food. Noticed the comments below and Im sorry but we found this cafe to be very friendly, clean and just lovely. Highly recommend for a great lunch visit.

Today was the second time I have been to this place, the first being 2 years ago on my last visit to New Zealand, today being my birthday my parents wanted to take us for lunch, 5 of us made a booking. The selection of fresh food was very poor, we were looking forward to there fresh pies they advertise, Only having venison ones left we chose that, 4 hours later I'm still suffering from indigestion and stomach cramps, the extra you pay for a salad is ridiculous for the morsel they put on your plate. The place was filthy, the toilet made my stomach turn, the place had been closed over Christmas apparently, so why wouldn't the owners clean the place, dead flies/bugs covered the windowsills, dust choked the place, it all needed a good spring clean, I didn't dare poke my head into the kitchen, if the dinning rooms was any indication of their cleanliness. I won't make the trip there ever again. very disappointed.

What wonder out in the middle of nowhere! Called in and stayed for lunch. The chef made me her seafood chowder and it was thee most amazing chowder ever! My mate a steak pie - pea pie pud and he loved it! Yep these guys have got it! Great, homemade food.

Have been here in previous times and love it. But we went there in the weekend and both our means were very average to poor. I had the honey chicken salad. The Chicken was nice but swimming in sauce and the salad was made from old lettuce. So old it had that bitter taste and dark green slimy bits which i pushed to the side and showed the waitress. "She just said that the lettuce was brought in bags from the supermarket and you can never really trust it". My husband had the fish and chips with salad. The fish was pretty old and he couldn't eat the salad. The chips were awesome but they had run out of there yummy aoli.
