Review Urban In East - Howick

Christina Bi
Nice cozy atmosphere. It was very entertaining to hear people cheering for the all blacks in another place next door as well as the staff cheering loudly when they tried. Food is good, we ordered mince on toast, pancakes, the special pork bene, and two drinks. Very happy that they have dairy free options for smoothies. The person serving us was very nice an attentive.

Delicious food and great customer service, coffee was pretty good. We ordered the vege Avo Stack and the Salmon Avo stack. Both delicious. The chef was very attentive to our food allergies which we appreciated. Great atmosphere and also lots to choose from in the cabinet, including Gluten Free and Dairy Free options.

Always love spending the morning here! Consistently serve great coffee with great soy/oat milk options. The staff are always super friendly and cheerful. One thing that could be improved is some more vegan friendly menu/cabinet items.

Good cafe with reasonable fast service and reasonably priced, although it gets busy at times. Good is decent, but the offer of petit size eggs Benedict is a good addition to the menu for those who cannot handle the usual large portions. However for medium coffee, the serving cup seems small.

This is my second home. Not because my wife wishes it, but because of the unique diligence to detail; everything from exquisite food, ambient atmosphere and outstanding service. For those old farts, it is the 'Cheers' we all wanted. Don't just come for one visit; make it a sanctuary during the day; I have and it has enriched my life.

Stopped by for lunch. It wasn't too busy since we were here quite late so we picked a table by the door. The menu was a bit different to other cafes, for instance, the iced chocolate here had coconut cream so it had a bit of a different flavour. The meals were a bit more standard. I had the mince on toast with a poached egg, It was nice, with the mince sweetened with grated carrots. A nice way to hide veggies for those who don't like it. I was expecting a bit more gravy to dip the bread in though. Also tried a bit of the fish sliders and it wasn't bad. Overall a nice cafe with friendly staff.

Staff were very professional and accommodating. Was nice to sit outside with our dogs and enjoy the atmosphere. Food was nice and the menu had a good variety of options. Only disappointment was my poached eggs were hard boiled but when I informed a member of staff it was resolved instantly and they were genuinely apologetic. Will definitely return, probably even as soon as next week!

Dog friendly cafe with super attentive staffs and scrumptious food! ☕️great coffee too! Thank you for letting Luffy sit inside on a rainy day 🙏🐶👍

Very nice food, customer service and environment. Plenty of car park at the back. They also have a lot of choices of breads, cakes or muffins. A lot of different types of drinks too. Good job! We will come back again.

Very nice little cafe. Food, coffee was good and service as well. The chef just need to learn not to vape in front of customers and right in front of the cafe.

Love this cafe and all food served! Tried beef burger and it was melting in my mouth. And wonder how about pork burger! Will try next! All staff are always smile and look after every minutes!

Best big breakfast I've had from any Cafe I've been to. Everything on the plate was perfect. The baked beans are a must try! The owner is a great bloke, definitely will be back in the future.

Fabulous coffee and even more fabulous staff! Vibe in this cafe is so cozy and friendly:) couldn’t recommend a better cafe in the Howick area 🩷

Nice little cafe in Howick Village. Good foods quality 👍🏻 but the coffee just average 🤔

My mum and I had lunch here today. What a breath of fresh air! Great food and drink, and the friendliest staff! Highly recommend this fab spot in our lovely local village!

This is by far my fave cafe in howick - food is amazing, coffee is fab and all the staff or so friendly. Would definitely recommend to come here if your ever in the area ☺️☺️

So what started as good went downhill very quickly greeting was very pleasant and drinks order placed quickly. This is where it turns to custard I ordered the big breakfast with some extra sides . I asked for fried eggs and no mushrooms as I am highly allergic and could end up in hospital. My food came out and the plate was put in front of me and immediately I had to send it back as the eggs came out poached to make things worse my plate had mushrooms on it which was only pointed out by my friend so it also dawned on me the wait staff had zero clue on what was going as especially when he asked me how to spell hollaindaise. I paid $44 for my food and a OJ and not even a sorry from the management absolutely disgraceful service and establishment will not be recommending this place to anyone.

Delicious coffee and Buddha bowl. Big portions and luscious amount of avocado. Would definitely visit there again.

They've had a huge improvement recently! The manager who was also serving today was real genuine and brought an energetic vibe to the place.
We ordered eggs Benedict with salmon (they have a huuuge selection of egg benes though!), egg white omelette, and avo stack. The ciabatta was amazing, often they're quite tough and hard to eat, but urban's is soft and buttery - that would be the highlight of the meal today honestly. Their potato hash in the avo stack was also really different - much creamier than other places, very herby, and not overly crunchy. Another interesting dish was the egg white omelette - it was airy and fluffy, well salted, and had crispy (but not too crunchy) bacon strips, and aromatic capsicums. The pumpkin seeds added an earthy flavour and crunchy texture.
I also thought their hot chocolate is not overly sweet and quite milky which suits my taste 😋
Would be keen to try out their other egg benes (some interesting ones on there such as sausage, and pulled pork options)

Had a coffee early morning and was greeted very nicely, didn’t sound forced and the service was much quicker than expected and the taste was heavenly!

First time here over weekend busy but worth wee wait! Perfect omelette - spot on! (Sorry forgot to take photo). Lovely coffee and service too. Look forward to next time Howick
Briar Davis
Lovely corner cafe. The iced chocolate and bacon and egg benne were beautiful, would definitely go back again. Service was good apart from some waitresses wondering aimlessly- however overall good experience.
Eva Pollard
Had buttermilk pancakes - quite filling. Would love to have had the option of small (one) and large (two)
Winnie Chao
Fine little gem, friendly service/owner and food is delicious. We always come for the fries! Also love how they have blankets for outside seating
Melissaf.xx
Cosy and modern place - hidden on the corner of one of Howick’s main streets. Salads we had were delicious and had good flavour combos. Would come back!

Lovely setting and vibe from the cafe! Great portion size, very unfortunate that our food arrived cold as it was rather yummy! Enjoyed our lunch and will try again when it’s not busy :) the young staffs were overwhelmed.. gave our food to another table, we saw them eat it before it was taken away and reserved to us! Ha!
Bethany Brown
Ordered the buttermilk blueberry pancakes which were really tasty and a really good portion size. Also ordered a peppermint hot chocolate which was delicious. The staff were really friendly as well. Really great value for money too! Overall a fantastic little cafe in Howick
Kate Bhadha
Excellent food, great ambience and lovely staff

Great little local cafe! Reliable place for brunch and coffee. I have to say, I do miss the old smashed avo with feta and bacon jam! Was my top go-to! Still love the food and interiors ☺️

Summary:
Would recommend to try if you have gold zomato

Taste - 3/5
Service - 4/5
Quantity - 2/5
Environment - 3/5
Cleanliness - 3/5
Price - typical price for cafe food

Came here with zomato gold so the price was relatively cheap for us. We ordered the open chicken Turkish and eggs Benedict with pulled pork. Recommend to try the open chicken Turkish as it was quite nice compared to the eggs Benedict. It was cooked and flavored perfectly. However, the eggs Benedict with pulled pork weren’t that great, it might’ve been better with something else instead, maybe salmon or mushroom.

Had an excellent Sunday brunch here. Great food with fast, friendly service. Really enjoyed the Urban works and the tomato relish was delicious. They had two types of coffee to choose from which is a nice touch.
Nicola
Service was friendly but food took 45mins to arrive after ordering. When it FINALLY came i happily enjoyed my beautiful spiced porridge. Hot and comforting and large. So filling. Would be rating 5 stars if food didn’t take so long.
My mum had the buttermilk pancakes. She said they were far too thick and but enjoyed the taste.

“Decided to take my mum out to breakfast for her birthday so we went down the road to Urban in East - we got coffee and brunch there. Everyone had got their food except me - only when everyone else’s food had come, they tell me they had forgot mine and it would be another 20 minutes. I didn’t wanna sit there and watch everyone eat so I just got a chicken wrap from the cabinet which I didn’t enjoy.

Overall didn’t really enjoy the experience but I might have if I got what I originally ordered. On the bright side coffee was good.” (Boyfriend’s review).
GS
Great potential to be amazing, but not quite there yet.

The first thing I noticed was the appearance of my coffee. It looked like someone had already taken a sip from it due to the cup not being fully filled up to the rim, and the coffee stains around the wall of the cup, making it look like they did fill it up to the top, then just decided to drink some of it before serving it to me. The picture I've uploaded is exactly what I had received. Fortunately the coffee tasted good.

Next came the Spiced Chai Porridge. After the disappointing appearance of the coffee, I had high hopes for such a beautiful bowl of nuts, fresh fruits, warm porridge, and a generous glass of coconut milk on the side. Unfortunately this was rather bland. The toppings were delicious but the porridge underneath was bland. There wasn't any hint of chai or even sweetness which made the dish really difficult to finish. The menu stated that it comes with coconut sugar, but maybe they had forgotten it? However the tumeric poached pear was delicious and the overall serving size is big.

Food did come out quickly, service was friendly. The place is beautiful too. Just some small improvements and this place could become a go to cafe. But for now, I would not come out of my way to visit.

Nice little cafe tucked away in howick town. Food was good. No problem using our zomato gold and 2 of us had it. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Would definitely be going back

closer to 4
one of the dish i find too overwhelming in the richness of the taste. too much cheese and bacon in the casear salad. otherwise the dish i had was good. presentation on spot. the location means it is very busy with cars and buses streaming pass.

Came by for a Saturday morning brunch. I ordered the smashed avocado on toast. I was pleased to see there was a generous serving of avocado despite being out of season. The meal was very aesthetic, the eggs were beautifully cooked and the overall combination of sundried tomato with beans tasted absolutely divine.
Lisa Marie
I always enjoy getting brunch at Urban in East and today I tried the Loaded Fries from the new menu. Was not disappointed! Generous serving of guacamole and sour cream.
I also had a small eggs bene- so awesome that there is a small serve option! Coffee great! Staff lovely as alway. Defo a fave brunch spot.

Unsure about the type of service Urban in East was trying to project. Was not initially greeted or acknowledged, despite the cafe only two tables full so we found our own seats and own menus and was only approached after foh finished their conversation 15 mins later. Great food though. Highly recommend the pulled pork, poached egg on rosti. (pic: lemon chicken open sandwich)

Have one of the most pleasant experience with this cafe. It is a small'ish cafe located in the corner of a busy Howick central. When me and my family got there (along with 2 toddlers), there were no seats inside so we got a table outside. It was very thoughtful, they have individual blankets on each chair, so we don't have to suffer the cold wind during the course of the meal. The food is good and tasty. Very satisfying meal and top service received. We even have a joke about a knife stuck on the topping board of our burger and we did not have enough strength to remove it. Photos next time :)
Food Taste: 4/5
Food Presentation: 4/5
Service: 5/5
Ambiance: 4/5
Value (food and portion size): 4/5

The new menu is absolutely delicious, the pancakes have that perfect balance between salty and sweet and the presentation is the best I’ve seen. Coffee is perfect, definitely supporting my coffee addiction. Staff are so friendly and accommodating. Atmosphere and aesthetics straight from a magazine. 10/10 would recommend

Best cafe in Howick!! The food was so delish and coffee was beautiful as always, I highly recommend going if you haven’t before the staff were lovely too :)

Had an avocado smash that's a bit small but it's okay. However the chicken noodles soup my gf had was terrible. It's noodles that somehow worse than instant noodles and 1 piece of very dry chicken. I had to apologize to her after the meal.

Coffee was okay would have been a 3 star if not for that terrible soup

One of my favorite cafes. It is super worth come with the Zomato membership. Child friendly with providing toys and coloring activities. Staff service also super nice. The food and coffee are perfect looking and tasty. Love it!

We went on Sunday afternoon and it wasn’t that busy. We ordered a French toast and a mushroom bene’s which both taste good. The service was good too. Maybe the time to serve can be slightly quicker. Will go again.

A typical Cafe with excellent service, good coffee and good food. Their bacon frying skills are top notch might I add. The cafe also has a really nice vibe to it and is the kind of place I'd love to chill at all day long.

I had a really delicious meal at urban in east today, the mince on toast was by far one of the best I've ever had and they were really accommodating to my allergy request. Overall great cafe!

Amazing service at Urban in East today, the wait staff were really friendly and attentive! Super delicious coffee and cakes! Will definitely be back again soon!

Great local cafe :) This was our first time here, we’ve ordered big breakfast and beef burger. The portion of both dishes was generous. Coffee was good too.

Warm welcome. Quick service. Yummy yummy yummy. Smashed avo on ciabatta with the most amazing goats cheese.
Good coffee. Warm sunshine inviting place.

Came here today with friends for breakfast after a stroll around the lovely Saturday Market. We took a seat and one of our friends got up for the menus and was told its table service. It was very busy, but always looks it when we pass most Saturdays. So we waited and then more people kept coming thru, we noticed the waitress take order from table behind us after we had been seated 10 mins and they walk in and get waited on straight away. So my friend and I got up and went to counter to order, the coffee guy said take a seat and some one will take your order, I replied no thanks orders are being taken from tables who have just arrived. So the girl taking orders walked to till and I said I want to order. She told me to take a seat told her no she is taking orders from tables who have just arrived. I gave her our order and paid. Our friends caramel latte wasnt the best, the rest of our order was very nice. I ordered Smashed Avo on toast, my husband ordered the pancake both were very nice, even our friends scone they ordered was enjoyable. Would return again one day, but hope next time our invisible woman/man outfits wont be on....

Came here with a friend for brunch. Staff were busy, but still had great service and were friendly. We got the banana bread french toast and eggs bene with rosti, a coffee and smoothie. The portions were generous and presented nicely. The french toast was slightly too burnt for my liking unfortunately. Really loved how the smoothie came with a sorbos straw(an edible straw). We also had zomato gold, so the bill at the end was very affordable. Will definitely come back again.

Awesome customer service and yummy food... Highly recommended.. the owner on cafe area he is very nice to talk to.😁.. A best place to go for breakfast brunch at howick
Hanna Weyer
When I have been here in the past the service, coffee and food has been amazing. Today was completely the opposite. Waited 5 mins for menus once we had been seated and then had to ask for the table to be wiped which was covered in egg and sugar wrappers. We finished all of our meals before the coffee even came out. I paid $20 for a meal that was missing items that were specified on the menu. People that had placed their orders after us got their coffee before us. When the coffees finally arrived they were both burnt and the hot chocolate was cold. Very disappointed with this service.

Great breakfast on weekend if you’re in the area, food & drinks were well worth it, presentation on plate & wait times could be improved but the taste was scrumptious
Little Borneo Girl
Great local location, nice coffee but food was just basic. We had been here twice and was quite a busy cafe. Not quite sure why it seems popular but the orders we had at $20 each (especially 2 eggs on smashed avocado with beans) had no wow factor. The other order came with chips on the side which looked as though they won’t fried in fresh oil and were rather salty. We may still visit again being locals in Howick but probably would just go for drinks and cabinet food. It’s a neat cafe after all. Service was not all that attentive. We asked for aioli as a dip to go with the salty chips and the response was ‘sure’ but never delivered.

Amazing service always owners are super lovely and friendly. Menu has been updated since my last visit and it just keeps getting better. I’m not a sweet breakfast person however the banana bread fresh toast was amazing! Eggs benne was good as always and the bast coffee if Howick! Urban in east is a must visit.

After reading other reviews, my wife and I came here for brunch and we were not disappointed. My wife had the Turkish Chicken Sandwich (which I had to help her with😁) and I had the Smashed Avo on Toast (which had two of the best looking poached eggs I’d seen in person👌). We also had smoothies (Sunrise & Green Ninja) which we both really enjoyed. As far as service goes, we were well looked after by our charismatic gentlemen server, and the team were all very welcoming. They played new-age music for ambience, which was only let down by passing traffic. Overall, great food and service, with reasonable pricing. Also, being Zomato Gold partners as well, is just another worthwile reason to stop in for a bite to eat. We’ll be back again.

We ordered the Howick Butchers Breakfast, Open Chicken Turkish and large hot chocolate. It was a very busy little cafe and we got a table outside (go early to get a seat!). The shoestring fries was a hit with the toddler! Although the bacon was a bit overcooked, other food was well done. Service was amazing, we were well looked after by the waitresses (even with a noisy toddler and baby).
Foodie
We went for brunch, where we were immediately greeted by very friendly staff and seated in a good spot. The beverages and food arrived quickly. We both chose The Butcher’s Breakfast, which was an excellent selection of goodies, that were well cooked and presented! Definitely would recommend 😀
B
This place used to be so good but today was disappointing. I got a coffee & walnut muffin which was sooo dry I had to sip my hot chocolate so I could swallow it. The outside of it was hard as a crust! I told the girl who served us about it and she apologised but did not even offer a replacement. The manager and another girl were there when I complained too but no one said a thing. Don't think we'll be going back.
Roro
The environment was nice with comfortable seating but the food was very average. The rosti in our butchers breakfast was still frozen and the bread was stale. They microwaved the rosti and didn't even bother apologising.
Sally Meale
Even though very busy on Saturday morning the service was top notch and friendly and the coffee and food were great .... will be back again soon
Kathy Faulkner
Urban in East has the best coffee in Howick, loving their new menu especially Avo on toast brekkie. Great service too and nice ambience. Water bowls for the dogs make it a perfect stop in the weekends

IF I CAN GIVE 0 STAR, I WOULD!!
My family came here on a Sunday, at 9AM. The restaurant was really busy so we had to find ourselves a table.
A lady finally came and took our order.
After 30 mins of waiting, she came back and asked what ordered, then took down our order again! We were really disappointed at that point, but since we were already there, we thought we just waited for a little bit more.
BUT NO... we were ignored for further 30 mins, and ONLY when we called the waitress, she told us that the system crashed and our order didnt come through. Then she apologised and took down our order again. 5 mins after, she came back again and said their kitchen was closed and if we would like our drinks only. LIKE SERIOUSLY??? You close your kitchen at 10AM?
So we left the restaurant, after an hour, and still hungry.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE!

I decided to visit this local cafe with a friend for breakfast/brunch service on a weekend morning.
This cafe is located on a corner spot in Old Howick.

Food: 3/5
Service: 0/5 & 4/5 (waitress and gentleman, respectively).
Environment: 2.5/5

This was my first time here and after reading the reviews here on Zomato, I decided to give it a go
and expected good things...

Let’s start with the positives:
We ordered an English breakfast and two ‘Howick Butchers Breakfasts’. The gentleman taking our order (perhaps the owner/manager?) was friendly and energetic. Tea was served promptly - It came with a cute little sand timer for timing your brew. Food arrived shortly after and once again served by the gentleman, who checked if we needed extra condiments etc. great service. Throughout the visit I noticed he was always checking on tables and asking for feedback, checking if people needed another coffee. Rather attentive, yet friendly.

Food:
The meal was presented on a wooden chopping board. Food itself was fine and obviously amazing value with the Zomato gold offer. The ‘Chorizo’ was alright, but I can’t say that it was authentic or tasted equivalent to others I’ve had. Scrambled eggs were slightly bland for my palate and unfortunately watery.. soaked through the toasted ciabatta.

Environment:
We sat inside, by the front window which was cosy. Extra points for using real pot plants for decor.
However, I would say it was rather noisy, with the traffic going past.

Bitter taste:
What left a bad taste in my mouth from this visit was the waitress/?barista at the front counter, with the pink and purple hair. Her tone and overall attitude was rather sh*tty, to be frank. I came in expecting a lovely time to catch up with a friend and unfortunately this visit out a dampener on an otherwise lovely morning. You are in hospitality, a customer-facing role.. It wouldn’t hurt to put a smile on and do your job properly, or even with a little enthusiasm.

Unfortunately, I would not recommend this place to anyone and will not be making another visit. Disappointed.
Hana
If I am ever stuck for a brunch location I will always suggest here. Not only are the staff friendly and attentive, but the food is consistent, reasonably priced and great every time.
The staff are always on their game, and even welcome in our pooches which is a huge bonus.
Decor is always clean and smart and presented well.
Found this wonderful cafe through Zomato Gold. We ordered three coffees and three plates of food. I highly enjoyed my long black, made with Ethiopian single origin beans. The food was also very enjoyable, well presented with generous portions.

Three stars without Zomato Gold, five stars with Zomato Gold.
Jaspreet Dhindsa
Initially we had this as a five star however we went back this weekend and were a bit underwhelmed with the food especially the caramel slice which was definitely a few days old.

Absolutely beautiful place and delicious food, we hadn’t heard of this place of despite living east, but tired it after seeing it as part of Zomato Gold. Will definitely be back next weekend :)

Sierra McCormick
Breakfast was average. The bread was super thick and tasted a little dry/stale. Smashed avo could do with more avo and the full breakfast wasn’t great. Wouldn’t recommend for breakfast. Haven’t tried the lunch menu.

Great little boutique cafe - friendly staff and great food. A favourite brunch spot in Howick. Dog friendly with outdoor seating #dogfriendly

Found this little corner spot because of Zomato gold today with not much of an expectation but wow it surely did not disappoint. Great service and especially from the lad who was always checking up on us. Got the urban works which is their big breakfast equivalent and the mrs a salmon Benedict on bagel. As you can see from the photo I pretty much licked my plate clean. The lad brought us smoked Tabasco which made everything 👌. One of the only places which adds onions to eggs bene and use ugly bagels as their bread which is simply genius. Pretty much almost stole my mrs’ share when she wasn’t looking. She got the peanut butter milkshake which was heaven - the taste of peanut butter was prevalent. Iced americano could’ve been colder. Only complaint were the flies inside that made us have to move outside. Otherwise, good food and service which is not easy to find.
Marcella
A great find! Came here for some decent breakfast and that’s what we got and more. Used our Zomato gold here which was a bonus. We both got the big breakkie and everything on the plate was cooked well. I’m not usually a big fan of baked beans but I really enjoyed theirs! Service was really good too. Hats off to the guy who served us as he was super friendly and had great energy. Will be back.
Alysha Nowacki
Such an amazing place. Definitely one of my favourite cafes out east. Service is pretty good and staff are really fun and friendly. Have an excellent range of cabinet and menu food available.

Came here for brunch. Ordered the pork burger along with the chocolate peanut butter milkshake. The milkshake was divine the peanut butter really came through 😍😍 the pork burger had shredded pork with a slaw in it. Yum yum pigs bum

Best Café in Howick! Always exceptional service, food & coffee. Perfect place to stop after visiting the Saturday Markets. Always have a bowl out for your pups too!

Amazing food, great atmosphere and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Awesome location and easily accessible. Food was out in a timely manner and was very happy with the customer service. Would definitely recommend to friends and family

Cute place at the end of Howick’s busy main street. Decorated nicely without cluttering the space, giving it a clean and fresh vibe - great for a relaxing meal or coffee catch up! Quite a few food options, however few to none catered for a plant based diet. The food was tasty and the portions were good! Prices were reasonable too, which is a bonus. A place I will definitely come back to again.

Food: 8/10
Service: 7/10
Ambience: 7/10

Can’t believe how slow the service was, waited about 30-40 minutes for the first meal and my partner got his meal 20 minutes before mine came out and when mine finally came to the table it was completely wrong and I could not eat it. Will not be returning
Brendan Joe
First time coming here, the coffee, food and service was at high standard. Staff were very nice and friendly, clean environment too. Strongly recommend this place if you are looking for what's said in my review.
Rohan Vasudevan
The big urban breakfast was simply delicious. Loved the quality of the food here and very generous too. And the coffee is mind blowing. I am one who loves me coffees and this place, by far serves one of the best coffees around howick. Definitely coming back. If you guys are in the area check it out. Highly recommend it.

This is one of the regular spot we go for brunch and coffee. Liking this cozy little cafe - good vibe, good food and good coffee. It has a black chalkboard with the caffeine formula, comfy couches with lots of cushions, cozy blankets, mobile number for coffee takeout, friendly staffs with lovely smile...just the right amount of everything.

I have only had take out coffee from here before but thought I would shout my mum to lunch. We were greated warmly at the door and shown to a table. Was pretty busy but the food came out quick and was delicious! Great size portions too. The staff were very friendly and happily let my mum take the rest of her omelette home. Nice place to sit and lovely service. We shall be back (saw a burger come out to the table next to us - must try that next time!)
Vic
Me and my friend came here on Friday for brunch. Loved the French toast and blueberry green tea! The atmosphere was nice and sunny and cosy. Service was prompt but there were a few flies buzzing around and two landed on my menu!

Last time we went here for lunch it took nearly an hour to be served, a bit too long for my liking even with 2 very patient kids!!...we were only the second of two sets of customers. Not going back.

Been here once before and found again lovely food (highly reccomend the fishcakes) and fantastic friendly service, will surely come back soon.

Just awesome. Amazing friendly quick service. The food blew us away. Paleo breakfast plus bacon (I’m not paleo!) and the bacon eggs Benedict on Hash Browns. Sooo good. My wife also had an apple juice - came out fresh pressed with a slice of apple. Yum

Im not normally a reveiwer however i felt enticed to sign up to make a reveiw after an experience i had this morning.
My husband and i visited Urban in east in main street howick village for the first time while on this side of auckland and what an amazing time we had.
We were greeted with smiles as soon as we entered and sat down by a lovely staff member. Menus, water and even asked imediately if we wanted a coffee! Service!
The coffees were outstanding and hot so we had another two.
The food took 15 minutes to arrive even though they were completely full; i had the eggs bene salmon and my husand had the big breakfast.
The food was outstanding and every element on the dish was perfect. Staff checked on us regularly and we felt very welcomed and even enjoyed the bustling loud atmosphere of a pumping cafe.
Howick, you have an incredible cafe with fantastic staff.
Please open and urban in east in takapuna!! We will be back
🤓❤

I arrived at about 2.45pm, there were no other customers at the time. The decor was great and there was quite a lot of choice regarding food. I chose a vege sandwich and a juice. The sandwich which I asked to be heated took quite a while to arrive. I also noticed that even though they were open until 4pm the girl who served me was tidying away for the day making me feel uncomfortable. There was a lot of banging and crashing coming from the kitchen area which did not make me feel any less uncomfortable. When I left I was chased across the road by the previous mentioned worker and was told i had not paid my bill. As this a cafe and not a restaurant you always pay at the counter before sitting down. However I agreed to return and prove i had paid which i did. I am surprised she was unable to remember if i had paid being the only customer in the place at the time. They were apologetic, however i found the experience humiliating and unnecessary. A free cup of coffee next time i come in (i won't be) doesn't cut it. Perhaps if she was more focused on the task at hand rather than getting ready to close up this could have been avoided.

Finally made it here to eat last weekend. I got the mushrooms on toast and I expected a little more for the price, however it was nice. one of our drinks didnt arrive, but when we told the staff it came out pretty quickly after and was worth the wait. Was almost charged another meal because waitress accidently put the table next to us meal on our bill. overall it was an alright experience. might come back when its a little less busy to see if its any better :)

This was our second time coming here for breakfast and it was extremely packed!! (Due to it being a weekend and the Saturday markets being on). The food was nice, my partner really enjoyed his eggs benny, however the crepes I found to be a little dry. They tasted great but needed extra sauce on the side or a bit of ice cream 😜. I also ordered a smoothie, which I asked to come out with the food. By the time I had finished my crepes, I had to ask for my smoothie to be put in a take away cup as it still hadn’t come out! The smoothie was a little bland as it just tasted like ice and mango - could be due to using frozen fruits. Overall the food was nice & customer service was great (the staff are so friendly!), just a little disappointed with the wait. Would like to come back on a more quiet day. ☺️

A cosy cafe, situated on the corner of the Howick Village centre.

Food: Had abit of a sweeth tooth so the "French toast" (3.5/5) was ordered. Food was well presented and served with a generous bottle of the legit maple syrup. Everything tasted well together, bacon were crispy, toast was nice and moist, and bananas were well grilled.

Drink: Had a "Gingerbread latte" (1/5) and boy, was it sweet. It was too sweet for my liking, (maybe too much syrup) so was not a big fan of it. Although, bear in mind that i am a no sugar coffee drinker.

Service: 4.5/5

The service was great, fast and efficient with a smile!! Jay made us the best breakfast with beautiful poached eggs !! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a lovely brunch spot 🤗

Great service, loved the breakfast, good coffee. Definitely will go back.
Not every Cafe gives you a proper round up kind of an experience. They seem to be very passionate about what they do and how to receive people in their lovely little Cafe.

By far the best service we've had in a long time! Good food. Fresh smoothies. Guilt free healthier brunch option. Prompt service. Would recommend. No doubt will be going back here.

Highlight would have to be the peppermint hot chocolate! Dark chocolatey goodness with a smooth peppermint taste.

The Panko crumbed fish was nicely battered and fried. The chips were perfectly crisp as well. Open steak sandwich was ok. I like how the fish and chips came with a side of salad.

I also liked how the salad wasn't just mesclun greens.

Found this cafe today while looking for a place to eat in Howick! There's many popular cafe's in Howick but this was one I had never heard of. The decor in here was lovely! They had blankets for those seated outside which was a nice touch. My friend especially liked the licorice lolly artwork. We ordered a peanut butter mocha, fish and chips and the chicken bacon burger. The food took a very long time to come out which was bit of a disappointment. It wasn't busy so quicker service would have been nice. However! The food was definitely worth it. My friend immensely enjoyed her fish and chips! I enjoyed my burger but it a little underseasoned for my taste. A good burger nonetheless. The mocha was disappointing as we couldn't taste the peanut butter and it was far too sweet. The customer service was great, all the staff were lovely and smiley!

Overall, a nice cosy spot in Howick with lovely customer service and tasty food!

Had heard lots of good reviews about this cafe so was keen to try it. The cafe occupies a corner on the Main Street in Howick - lots of available parking. Seating is inside & out, and the cafe is really light with lots of windows to let in natural light.
Service was excellent, right from the lady welcoming & getting you seated as you arrive through to the other wait staff & cashier.
Menu has lots of different options - I tried the avocado on toast with poached egg & bacon jam. The bacon jam was a nice addition.
Coffee was very well made.
Keen to visit again & try more of the menu including the waffles which I've heard good things about also.

I liked a lot of things here: the table service, the amazing looking cabinet of treats, and the staff were all very friendly, food was just nice. The interior is nice, quite small but with some roadside tables.

The only thing I didn't like, is how all the staff, including kitchen staff seemed to come out on a break, or something(?) and sit at the tables by the kitchen and chat with each other. It was friendly chat, and it was nice to see a cafe with all happy employees, but I really don't think this was appropriate, even if we were the only customers in the cafe (which we weren't). The kitchen door is also open onto the street, and we heard their loud kitchen banter from the road where we parked, which was also a little off putting. They were nice though, and the barista seemed generally interested in whether I enjoyed my coffee which was nice!

Lovely service! Great coffee and vibes! Right on the corner, so easy to get to, plus they have blankets if you're sitting outside! Loved it!!

First let me start by saying I have been a regular customer here for the last 6months
I am overly impressed by the wonderful food especially eggs Benedict with salmon and carbornara crepe!!
I always see the beautiful chef with a smile on her face greeting customers and running food if the floor staff are busy. My family and I visited on anzac day and were so impressed seeing your chef on the coffee machine and working with the floor staff to ensure customers were taken care of.

Unfortunately the reason I have given such a low rating is because of the manager. The guy is rude and highly disrespectful to his staff and on numerous occasions I have seen him swear throw things and even once punch a rubbish bin outside (a couple of weeks ago).

I am sorry but I will not return to your establishment to watch such beautiful young staff be vilified and disrespected in such a way.

Please urban in east sort him out its not a good look when all we want as customers is a hot meal and coffee

Good luck

Urban In East is a local family owned & operated cafe. Unfortunately, dinners are not served. Open steak sandwich was OK; fries were lovely. Cheese sandwich with sweet chilli chicken was good. Meat, as usual for sandwiches, was tough, but the taste was good. Rhubarb & custard brioche was excellent - soft with sweet delicious filling. (Food - 3.5/5; Service - 4/5; Ambience - 3/5)
P.S. I like what were written on the blackboard behind the counter (see photo)

It appears that I have been a little MIA – it’s been nearly two months since my last blog post! Although I haven’t been writing blog posts, but I still regularly update my Instagram with my dining adventures – follow me at @mydiningjourney. . Whenever I’m in Howick for brunch, the go-to cafe for my friends and I have always been Howick Village Cafe. So when my friend mentioned about Urban in East just around the corner, I thought it was new! Turns out, it’s been there for a good year, so we decided to check this place out.

Went there for a quick takeaway coffee on Good Friday. We ordered a flatwhite and a cappuccino. They came out really quickly and they were the one of the best coffees I had in ages in east Auckland. Staff are always friendly and the barista's great to talk to. Their shelves are fully stocked with goodness such as Harney & Sons tea, West Coast cocoa and Vivace espresso's Union Blend and single origin of the week. Will definitely come back for more coffee and am keen to try their Chemex.Highly recommended if you are in the area.

We got a corn turmeric waffle for breakfast. I love the composition of the dish with chorizo, egg and greens.

It's not the usual sweet waffles, but done beautifully.

Service is great, waitresses are really nice and attentive.

Portion is just right, I saw a gent that sat next to us ordered a 'big' breakfast. Foods toppled over! Very generous if you are hungry!

I'm hoping to try other dishes on the menu.

Quite easily, the BEST cafe in Howick! My second visit here in a while and both times, everything is incredible. The staff welcoming and friendly as though your walking into their homes, the coffee fantastic and the food to match.
Atmosphere is buzzing and the place feels clean and cozy.
Table service just adds to the atmosphere as they do the service well, My water glass was topped out throughout.
That guy with the tattoos makes a damn good coffee and the ladies on the floor, nothing was too much to ask for.
Best Cafe for sure. Please keep it up.
Owen

Although the food is amazing the way the staff are treated is unacceptable I have seen batista throw items behind cafe desk whilst I'm trying to drink my coffee, I definitely will not be returning. Very disappointing.

Such a nice vibe in this cafe! Staff were on the ball with really fast friendly service! This is actually so hard to find!
Food was also great, crepes and waffles were yummmy!! And very reasonably priced!!

We will be back!

Been into this cafe once before, but more impressed when I visited last Saturday. Staff very friendly and though busy still spent time with us telling us about the menu. Had the crepes this time which were delicious!! Huge portion too!! Big thumbs up on the mushrooms too! Recommend this place for sure for everyone in the area

A friend told me to check this place out and I was not disappointed! In fact, the best experience I've had in a while.
I arrived with my partner and we were greeted immediately by a young woman with a big smile.
She sat us down with menus and water and told us special dishes of the day. So far, impressed and we felt welcomed.
We ordered a latte and a peppermint hot chocky with a smashed avocado and my man had the mince on toast.
Drinks came out fast and hot and we're delicious. Food arrived shortly after and looked stunning.
The avo was beautiful and had alot of flavours running through it and my man said his mince was 'epic'.
Service was amazing as its all table service and our water glasses topped up throughout.
Definitely best cafe in the area as we have tried a few.
Wouldn't mind something this style and bang out our way in Ellerslie.
We left with a couple of fresh juices which were scummy and very satisfying. Thankyou Urban! We will be back! 😚

Popped in here for a late lunch after the gym, glad that we did! Right on the Main Street in Howick you'll find this little cafe - but it isn't any old place! If you're anything like me you love a range of dairy free products and allergen friendly options, and this is the place for it in Howick 😍. From trim milk to coconut milk, from eggs Benedict to vegan bowls - it's all here for you! The food was pretty decent and only needed some flavor adjustments and slightly fresher ingredients but otherwise I had no issue. I'll finish off by saying that the service here is literally out of this world. I've never felt so special while at any eatery in Auckland! Nothing was too much of an issue for the staff here, especially David 😁. Check this place out if you're an East Aucklander

Very good service! Love the eggs Benedict! Will recommend all friends and colleagues to go see this wonderful establishment. If you wish to come here, it's mandatory to try the eggs bene!!!

I was very disappointed with the experience I had in this cafe this morning. I ordered a small flat white and the crepes. When I finished almost all of it, I found either a armpit hair or pubis in my plate. It was so disgusting!! My friend who sat opposite to me stopped eating immediately. I called the staff coming to have a look, so the lady came to take the plate to the kitchen. After a minute, she came out and apologised, and she told me that the kitchen staff did followed their procedures, and so did all their other staff. Therefore she would offer me 10% off from my bill. What could I say? Was that my pubis??? To avoid any arguments in the new year, I paid off my bills and walked away. Very very disappointing. By the way, I live and work in this area. Our staff always bought coffee from them. From now on, I think we should stop buying anything from them.

Hate to say but it just didn't do it for us. My daughter and I ate here today. Lunch menu wasn't available at 11 30am so I had the smashed avocado and she had the roast fruit crepes. The flavours in mine drowned the avocado and they weren't that nice. One of my daughter crepes was under cooked the other over cooked and the whole thing lacked flavour. The urban sunrise juice was delicious. The staff were friendly and The decor is lovely. Maybe a little too hipster rather than tasty.

Nice little cafe, food was yum, had the House Bene with Portobello mushrooms on the side and it was delish. Coffee wasn't good though ordered a Moccachino and it came out warm, The water they served had a funny taste also. A very busy spot, good food, below average coffee..

I went to this new cafe and ask for small double shot flat white. Coffee was not good at all. Still after putting two shot in small cup I can't taste coffee. Sorry was ok not too good. Staff was looking excited that's why i give 1.5 rating otherwise this is the worst cup of coffee I ever had. I am surprise how cafe can run business with this type of coffee. I won't come back of I get same type of coffee. Cafe looks clean . Will try one more time in next few months. Worst coffee ever. 👎

First up the service was really friendly, the specials were explained and water provided as soon as we sat down. We took the breakfast corn waffles with bacon jam and also a lunch dish, chicken skewers flavoured with lime and coriander, served with hummus and ciabatta. Daughter had chamomile & lavender tea and I had a latte, both were good.

The food was ok, no wow factor. What did look impressive was the steak pie that was carried out to one of the tables, I was told that the pastry is home made and the steak marinated in guinness, maybe we'll try that next time.

Once again I'll stress that we were made to feel very welcome. The cafe was very busy despite it being a quiet Monday morning in the village.
