Review The Indian Kitchen - Howick

Lay Cheng Ho
My partner is very pleased with the food. The lamb curry was tender and the spicy level was up to standard. Love the fact that they serve Indo Chinese food- we love Manchurian chicken and friend noodles with our curries.
Sohrab Irani
Good guys, few areas where food and service can be improved šŸ‘Œ They were not so busy when we went. Food was slightly above average, non veg was better taste the vegetarian meals. Naans were good. Surely, we will be visiting again.
Steve Voisey
The chef said that I made a great choice (mushroom saag), and personally delivered it to my mum with a note on the bag. She LOVED IT!
Rizzaej Nelson-SinghVirdi
Kids love their meal butter chicken, we love our food as well we order the fish and ginger chicken it was so delicious, fish was so tender n juicyšŸ‘Œ, mango lassi loved the tangy taste of the lassi couldn't get enough of it. Totally recommended.
Roland Sapsford
The food at this unassuming indian restaurant is exceptional. Located on one side of a parking area at one end of Howick shops, the Biryani and Pakora were magic. Light, delicately seasoned rice with just the right amount of tender meat meant the Biryani one of the best I have ever had. The Pakora batter was close to perfect. If you love hidden gems, where modest premises produce remarkable quality, Indian Kitchen needs to be on your list.

Friendly service, plenty of choices in the menu,Always busy and delicious food, we been going to Indian kitchen for last 5years and they never disappointed us.
Sophie Jackson
I love their service super fast and always ready my food on time. They sell the best and affordable food out East Auckland.
Josh Wilson
Love their service, We been going there since day and we always love their butter chicken and saag curry! Highly recommend best curries out at east Auckland šŸ‘

Great food - really tasty and generous portions, ready on time. Thank you!

They Do the Basics and They Do It Well! Great Flavour Sauces And We Come Here Every Time! Some Reviews Cite Lack Of Meat - I Say One Curry More Than Enough!

Food was delicious, delivery was fast and driver was friendly, highly recommended!

Of all the Indian Restaurants in New Zealand, this one has the most tasteful decorations. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was really good. I have to say that this was positively the best experience in an Indian restaurant in New Zealand for me personally. Thank you to the owners of ā€œThe Indian Kitchen Restaurant ā€œfor making this such an excellent experience.

Good communication, tasty and reliable

Had a lovely dinner here tonight. Vegetarian player for entree and aloo Gobi for the main. Also had an absolutely amaaaazing garlic naan. Massive portions, was full from just the entree to be honest. Awesome flavorful stuff. The also do a $10 butter chicken takeaway special so I might try that one day.
Sarah Olifiers
This place literally never disappoints! Can not recommend this place highly enough! Their curries are to die for šŸ¤¤šŸ’•

Love the food and the people! Best Indian restaurant.

We ordered the chicken roganjosh and chicken jalfrezi. Both the dishes gravies were ok but had alot in similar and alot of large onion pieces and the worst of all were the chicken pieces which were uncooked and pink from inside. Very unhappy with the food ,would never return
Heidi Klein
I walked into your restaurant today, anticipation high for your lovely beef rogan josh and a butter chicken........ I walked up to the desk and a young woman squawked inaudibly at the two young men that were engrossed in a conversation. She got up and walked behind the counter and squawked again as I was rummaging through my wallet to make sure I had actually brought the right one. I said "one moment , please", she then leaned in to me, raising her voice, speaking slowly (which admittedly did make her understandable), but sounded like she was trying to communicate with someone with special needs. She asked if I had already ordered, I said that I hadn't, at which point she gave me a filthy look as though I was inconveniencing her. As much as I enjoy your food, no food is worth going through service like this. I said "Never mind" and left. I went round the corner to The Ginger, 10 out of 10 for their service, I felt welcome and that my custom was wanted. To themĀ  I will return and I will be recommending them to all and sundry. As for the Indian Kitchen if you want to hold onto your walk in customers either retrain or simply get rid of the squawker. I'm giving you a star as there is no minus scale to which I would rate my service today.

Good food and value for money. Proper authentic Indian taste. Masala Kulchas were lovely. Curries tasted so good too. Would love to visit again.

I get butter chicken from this restaurant quite often. It was a 100% nice diced chicken meat before, but now Iā€™m not sure which part of chicken added to the nice diced chicken meat. Itā€™s small, hard but not edible, and I need to pick it up when eat. I understand that a business needs to consider its cost, but also needs to consider its reputation.
Jyotika Kaur
Hi, it was the worst butter chicken I ever had. It was full sugar more like a dessert. And lamb seekh was also very very very bad. I wasted my money. You donā€™t do it. I couldnā€™t eat more than 2 bites. And I think its reviews on its website are fake.
Sime Cajot
Forgot to take a picture, as I just had it for takeaway. So I got the Butter Chicken Combo, with rice and naan bread. The Chicken tasted really good and the naan was freshly made perfectly crisp and soft at the same time.
Food_Food2
A lot of reviews said The Indian Kitchen butter chicken is the best and the smell from their kitchen is always good so I tried it. I found their butter chicken sauce to be so watered down and way too sweet, all I could taste was sugary water. They gave a bigger portion of chicken/rice compared to Bolliwood but it didn't matter, it tasted like nothing. I ate the chicken and ended up throwing away the rice drenched sauce it tasted like diabetes. I can see why people like the bigger portions, but it's junk food, it's not rich and creamy like Bolliwood's butter chicken.
Sagar Dani
You guys have really good food and lovely staff to assist, we had butter chicken and Naan, it so tasty that we couldnt stop licking our fingers. Good foos options and good one chef, Kuddos to team The Indian Kitchen šŸ˜
Rebecca Dong
Decided to try this place for takeaways after reading the reviews here. Fair to say was very disappointed. The naan is thin, dried and tastes like a crispy pancake. Not how a naan bread should be. The biryani was the worst. It is not a biryani. Anyone who remotely appreciates biryani knows it involved hours and hours of preparation and cooking time, hence seeing it on the any indian cuisine menus is a treat. It is not simply rice stirred through some meat curry and make it a 'fried rice' dish. I am sorry please don't call it a biryani if that's what customers get served.
Bokkiwi
Great flavours with fresh ingredients. Frankly the best curry Iā€™ve had in Auckland. Had the Chicken Achaari- awesome, intense flavour. Highly recommended
David Reid
The food is still good and the decor has been updated a bit.<br/>However regulars should be aware that the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday discounts have disappeared and based on full price they are likely to be lost to competitors.<br/>Probably still good for lower price on takeaways.
Yasmina Dervishi
Butter chicken and naan bread for $8.99... canā€™t go wrong!! I thought for the price it would be average but itā€™s actually really good. One of the best butter chickens Iā€™ve had.
Hotdog&Buns
Delicious curries, generous portions and incredible deals; this place is my go to curry spot.<br/><br/>Having tried a couple of their curries, I must say that so far, none of them disappoints. My favorite so far is their korma curry; it is almost addicting. Also their naans are amazing.<br/>Service is fairly quick, around 10 minute wait. Staff are pretty chill.<br/><br/>I highly recommend this place if you crave some butter chicken (the sweet kind).
Stephy_NakiGirl
Really friendly service & usually really busy - not a huge restaurant so can pay to plan ahead.<br/>Jalfrazee & Jeera Aloo werenā€™t the best weā€™ve had, but they were really tasty. Naan was a little thinner than some, but fresh & tasty again. Drinks list is small but they have most options covered. <br/>Their specials are good value. A good wee local so well worth checking out
S Kerr
Half butter chicken, half rice and a naan for $9. wtf so cheap and good quality āœ…āœ…āœ… have only gotten takeaway here a few times and has always been really good service and good food
A Wee Bit Critical
The Indian Kitchen never disappoints! Their vegetarian options are well suited to most of the options so I donā€™t feel as though Iā€™m missing out on anything. Very reasonably priced!
Gem McLeod
This is the BEST Indian place I have ever had the pleasure of trying. I live in the city but every time I'm in the Howick area I greatly look forward to picking up a curry from The Indian Kitchen.Ā <br/><br/>The curries are affordable, not too oily and packed with flavour. They have many vegan curry options (including the best aloo matar on the planet) and the papadums here are next level.
Lisa Redhill
New owners since December last year that I didnt know about.Ā  Food was so delish!Ā  Will definitely go back!Ā  Ordered butter chicken it is so yummy!
Neelam Chandra
Got some takeaways from here due to all the hype. The mixed platter for two was pretty good with the main star being the chicken tikka. However the butter chicken curry was lacking in flavour and was below average. I have definitely had alot better.<br/>
Momo
Try: mango chicken and butter chicken.<br/>It's just that addictive taste. Even though they make it in large batches at the back of the store and tell you to wait while they're just heating it up. It still taste nice. An order of one takeaway curry can easily fill up 1 and a half persons, and the rice is enough for two people. Of course it's not the healthiest thing you can eat but if your craving that sweet/creamy food court butter chicken taste, try curry from here it's much nicer!

I have been to the Indian Kitchen on several occasions. I first began trying their food as a takeaway as they do awesome deals on takeaway curries - I later learnt that they also do fantastic deals for dining in too!<br/><br/>They have recently refurbished their restaurant and even though small, the atmosphere when dining in never feels uncomfortable or awkward. We were served by a couple of wait staff when we recently visited the restaurant for me to enjoy their dining in option and they were amazing! Service was fast and so friendly, very attentive and interested to hear about whether we were enjoying our meals or had any problems.<br/><br/>Had a curry that was a little hotter than I'd hoped but this could be due to my mistake in ordering or just a small problem that could be caused by different chefs adding different ratios of spice. <br/><br/>All in all, definitely my favourite local Indian restaurant and takeaway. Generous portions and fantastic prices - oh and I will recommend the tikka masala which has a beautiful taste!
Monique Bell
Amaaazing curry. Lovely staff and can't go wrong with their deals. Lamb sagwala and tikka masala are our go to's but never been disappointed
Shane-o Barry
Just dined in again for curry monday have not for a long time been busy but have done a few takeaways.<br/><br/>Food was amazing fast and friendly service.<br/><br/>place has been done up and looks and feels great.<br/><br/>will be back again for sure <br/><br/>Yumo yumo yumo

The food here is so good. 100% recommend this place. This has been my go-to indian food place for the last 5 years. However, it is not the biggest place, wouldnt really have a big family dinner here. It's quite small and the decor is alright. <br/><br/>Value: They usually always have deals, for takeaway or dine in too. The portions are also very decent and worth the money. <br/><br/>Food: the food is super tasty. And the naan is almost always cooked to perfection! They also are not stingy with their rice (saves having to cook extra at home if you takeaway). <br/><br/>Service: 4/5 <br/><br/>From left to right: butter chicken, do pyazza (thick, onion rich coconut based curry), and tikka masala
Aric
Great authentic tasting food with wonderful portion sizes. Small restaurant but very good vibes and service. Food came out quickly and tasted amazing
Janni
Great price, reasonably priced, great location, good staff, very yummy food Have come several times never let down.... I Love Indian food,..
James Smith
Excellent service and taste. I asked for spicy and got spicy unlike most places that white there curries up. I would definitely recommend trying if you like curry

My mother, sister and I ate at the Indian Kitchen last night and it was wonderful! I am vegan, mum is vegetarian and my sister is an omnivore and we were all catered for. There were many things on the menu that could be made vegan and their Roti is vegan too and delicious. I ended up having a Vegetable Rogan Josh which was divine. As a starter I had vegetable pakora which was so light and un-greasy that I even though it was a HUGE serving, I could have eaten another serving all over again. The service there was attentive without being overbearing and the small atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy on a cold winter night. We will definitely be eating there again soon ā€“ canā€™t wait to take my husband and children to try it. Admittedly I did need to be rolled out of there after such an awesomely filling meal but it was well worth it! Highly recommended.<br/><br/>
Sam
Very good food! Would recommend :) lots of vegan options - always super delicious & even better $10 night Monday-Thursday which is great! Great service, friendly people
Muhammed ƖztĆ¼rk
Good service and food quality. Our waiter happily catered to specific diet needs and the service was quick. Cute little place to visit if you are in the area
Georgia Petry
Delicious food and beautiful presentation. We very happy to cater to specific dietary needs.

During our entire dinner, my friends & I were the only sit-in customers on a Sunday evening. Fortunately take-away customers kept ringing & drifting in to take their food; otherwise I wonder how it can survive. We had butter chicken, tikka masala chicken & rogan josh beef, together with a plain naan & rice. Both chicken & beef were very over-cooked. A rather disappointed dinner! (Food - 2/5; Service - 3/5; Ambience - 3/5)
Josie Marie
Fantastic food, best in the East! But shocking customer service.... young men at the counter were rude and unwelcoming. Did not pass the reciept or food, reciept was thrown on counter and we had to retrieve the food ourselves.
ChahooEater468
For $10 the curry you get tastes really good and is extremely filling. I've had curry from other places and this currently beats them all. I would suggest for that people try butter chicken, korma and madras because they are made sooo good here. Probably one of my fav places to eat atm.
Denz
Indian Kitchen would definately be a top contender for the best Indian cuisine in East Auckland. Although the retaurant lacks in ambience, the food is great and is awesome value for money (with the weekly specials). I've ordered from here on multiple occasions and everytime they are always busy (with takeaways) - which just goes to show how good the place is. With this in mind it would pay to order over the phone cause waiting times can be an excess of 20-30min+<br/><br/>My go to is typically their Butter Chicken, Samosas and Naans. I don't know what it is, but they do it right! Recently, I opted for a mild Beef Korma and it came out spicy which was a let down, but that was only 1 of very few bad experiences with The Indian Kitchen.<br/><br/>If you're ever in the mood for Indian that is both yummy and value for money - I'd highly recommend The Indian Kitchen.
Sagar Kapoor
Pathetic chicken vindaloo. Overdose of salt. I'm a regular there but never ordered vindaloo before. Really really disappointed. Didn't expect this
Kershia
Decided on grabbing some takeaways on a night where cooking something just was not on the cards. <br/><br/>Ordered a hot butter chicken from here. Cost was really good $10 for a curry & rice (and was a really good portion size). Lasted three meals so good value for money. <br/><br/>The staff were reasonably friendly & the food was ready in about ten to fifteen mins.<br/><br/>I did enjoy the food although it wasn't out of this world or anything super special. I would definitely go back for takeaways again but wasn't too keen on dining in as it is quite small.
Nikki S.
This is probably the best Indian place I've tried in east Auckland so far, but it's definitely not comparable to other places like Paradise in Sandringham. The chicken mudras I ordered was nicely flavoured but the chicken was a little over cooked which is a bit of a disappointment. However in terms of customer service, price and waiting time it was excellent - I would be happy to go back to The Indian Kitchen if I was in the area and looking for Indian food.
Al Fresco
Good food that is great value for $, plus the staff are always very friendly. We always get takeaway as the dining area needs a makeover if you wanted to dine in.
Victoria Taua
One of the best curries in Auckland! They don't skimp on the chicken. I always get the butter chicken with medium heat and garlic naan. My partner loves the mango chicken :)
Ryan Orr
Been coming to the Indian kitchen for years. They do great curry almost all of the time- the lamb sag is awesome. Well recommended !!! ......
Dihang Wu
Yep I agree with the other reviews here, definitely a hidden gem as you would probably never guess the food would taste this good by just looking into the restaurant. For $10 Takeaway (except the prime nights) you get a large size curry and also a large size rice (unlike the half and half you might get from other establishments). Plus you also get way more pieces of chicken in the curry! Definitely recommend the takeaway option!
Marcella
Looks can be deceiving. From the outside, this store looked pretty average; dodgy even. But man, they sell the best curries in East Auckland.<br/><br/>I've come here a few times for takeaways now and every time, the flavours of the curries are consistent and tasty. On most nights, the curries are only $10 which includes rice. What a deal! My favourite is the butter chicken, though it is a bit on the sweet side. But like I said, all their curries are pretty good. <br/><br/>Be sure to call ahead rather than just showing up as it can be a lengthy wait on busy nights. Definitely give this place a go if you're in the mood for Indian food. Definitely worth it.
Wayne Potgieter
Ok...so when i walked inside and saw this dingy little indian place i was not very impressed.<br/><br/>8 tables and not much ambiance.<br/><br/>But the food! Oh my gosh...the food was absolutely amazing. Best indian i have ever had the pleasure to eat.
Angelina Joy
I love this place. LOVE it. By far, the best Indian food I have ever bought from a restaurant. And it's always consistent - it doesn't matter what day of the week, or what time of day, the food always tastes constitently the same. I've never once had a disappointing meal from the Indian Kitchen, and I've been getting food from them for years - and they're not even my local! Definitely my go-to for takeout night. Yum!
Terentius
The Indian kitchen makes oneĀ of the best Butter chicken dishes I have ever had. Friendly hosts and great prices with their specials throughout the week.Ā  Mmmmm...Butter chicken with a Naan bread.
Emily White
I had been told so many great things about this restaurant, and being a fan of Indian curries - especially when they're $10 - plus it being extremely handy to where I live, I decided to give it a go.<br/><br/>I've ordered takeaways from the Indian Kitchen about 3-4 times and each time I have been more and more disappointed.<br/>The restaurant is mainly used by locals for takeaways and is quite small and awkward to wait in. There is always an abundance of staff members hanging around and it's quite intimidating and off putting.<br/><br/>I am lactose-intolerant so I need a dairy free curry and I usually choose the Vindaloo as I don't mind it being spicy. I have always had a great experience with ordering Vindaloo at various Indian restaurants, however at the Indian Kitchen I found it to be lacking in flavour and care. The Vindaloo curry is meant to be packed with spice and flavor but at the Indian Kitchen it tasted bland and unappealing. For $10 and the convenience I guess it's not awful, but after 3 or 4 tries I don't think I'll be going back.<br/><br/>I am quite surprised to be honest, considering the stand out reviews the Howick locals give the place, but perhaps they make really good classic curries like Butter Chicken and Tikka Masala and don't spend enough time on the lesser known dishes. Either that or these reviewers haven't tried a decent curry.<br/><br/>Overall, I won't be ordering from them again, I'd probably rather go to Subway.
Kirstie
The food at this place is so so affordable and so delicious. Chicken korma and butter chicken is consistently amazing! Great staff and service every time,
Danielle Campbell
Only place we get butter chicken from - fab service, fab food...highly recommend and love their $10 curries...we drive from pakuranga to howick cause we know we are in good hands
Sheree Buttery
The best Indian cuisine in east Auckland. What more can I say other than book a table or order takeaway. You will not be disappointed. So much flavour and reasonable pricing. Very busy but worth the wait
Jacqui Crawley
This is one of the family favourites for Friday night takeaway. Kids love the butter chicken with naan. Just 10 mins away so close and convenient. Food is always ready on ti
Miss Kiki
Have never dined-in here. I have only had takeaway. Last night we had Lamb Korma, Lamb Saagwala, Butter Chicken and Keema naan. <br/>I really love the curry here, I love how the saagwala has texture and not like most Indian places that blends the sauce to death.<br/>The curry is very full of flavour, I love it. I will always have curry here if I'm in the area.
Gill Ewen
The Indian Kitchen is a great little place to get takeaways. The interior of the restaurant has very little atmosphere so would rather bring the food home. When ordering, their time predictions are accurate and staff are always polite and helpful. The food is absolutely delicious. We have tried several dishes from the menu and they are all great.
Ana Ika
WOW this place was amazing and the price was very good! <br/><br/>Had dinner here with a few friends and everything was absolutely lovely. The food was great in quality and quantity. It's really homey! Loved it!
Andy
This is the best Indian food I've ever had. We frequently return for the best butter chicken, vindaloo &amp; tikka masala in Auckland. It doesn't look much from the outside, because all the magic happens in the kitchen!
David Jones
I have been a frequent visitor to the Indian Kitchen in Howick and I can honestly say that I have never had a bad experience<br/>with their food. There are numerous Indian Restaurants opening in the greater Howick area and I have tried most of them back I keep returning to the tried and tested and great succulent food served by the Indian Kitchen in Howick and to add to the pleasure of going there the staff are always very polite and accommodating. If you want second grade Indian food then go elsewhere but if you are choosy and a lover of the real thing then do not miss out this excellent gourmet experience of the flavours of the Jewel in the Crown INDIA.
Siddhi Mistry
Absolutely Delicious Food, Polite &amp; Friendly Service &amp; Great value for money - Thats why i am giving them *5star. <br/><br/>I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO YOU ALL - Definitely you wont be disappointed - If you haven't tried them then i say you should !!!!<br/><br/>Thanks TIK Team - Keep up the good job Cheers

What a hidden gem this place is. The bland exterior belies the delights within. We dined there on Saturday night using a voucher which offered a curry, rice, naan bread and a wine or beer per person and I have to say we weren't expecting much, but how wrong we were. The staff were friendly, and the food exceptional, in fact all 4 of us agreed that it was, without a doubt, the best Indian food we have ever eaten and we have eaten a lot. The place was packed and the phone rang constantly with people ordering take out food, but this did not seem to affect the time it took to take our orders and for our meals to be delivered. We will definitely go there again and highly recommend the Indian Kitchen as a fantastic eating experience
Morgan Maheno
I ordered takeaway lamb vindaloo from TIK in howick . The service was very good. friendly and polite staff. I eat a lot of Indian at a variety of different places and unfortunately this didn't quite do it for me. Flavors lacked depth the overpowering taste of tomato paste was the stand out taste making the dish somewhat bland. All and all the dish was palatable but in no way impressive despite the great service
Jasmine Lee
Used a deal voucher for 2 curries, rice, naan breads and drinks. Staff were polite and attentive. We ordered the butter fish and chicken madras. Delicious, piping hot, perfectly seasoned curries. This place is super busy with lots of people buying takeaways. Will definitely come again. Thanks TIK!!
Sid Mistry
"The Indian Kitchen" I am a big fan of yours. Absolutely fantastic food &amp; each curry has its own distinct flavour unlike some other places where all the curries taste the same. <br/><br/>We have tried pretty much the whole menu of yours &amp; My family particularly loves your Butter Chicken &amp; Beef Roganjosh. We come all the way from Mt. Wellington. Thanks to one of my friends who is a Howick local &amp; he introduced us to this place. Now it's been 2 years we are regulars at your restaurant &amp; won't think of any other place for a yummy Curry.<br/><br/>As you can easily see other patrons have also got great reviews about this place. This little gem in Howick does amazing curries &amp; I would highly recommend this place to everyone.
Rebecca
Hi lovely TIK!! <br/><br/>Thanks for my yummy curry dinner on Sunday!<br/><br/> My favourite curry is always MANGO CHICKEN!! My husband always loves your spicy LAMB ROGAN JOSH!! <br/><br/>Your curry is always so delicious, and I always have left overs for my lunch! My staff are always so jealous when they see my fresh and tasty TIK curry!!!<br/><br/>Big big fan! Service is awesome, staff are friendly and helpful (sometimes a little bit funny too!) <br/><br/>A+
Jo Cook
Ordered a takeaway tonight with very high expectations. I'm sure eating in provides a different experience, so this is based on the quality of the food only.<br/>We were very disappointed, a lot of sauce and hardly any meat. We ordered 2 curries, the lamb was flavorsome. but due to lack of meat, definitely left you unsatisfied. The chicken korma was bland and again had very little meat. Will not be ordering again, there are better options for Indian in Howick.<br/><br/>Thank you very much for your response, I think it's wonderful that you take the time to do this and shows you really care about your customers. You have such a wide menu and majority of your reviews comment on your authenticity. Because of your care, we will be back and next time it will be to dine in and experience your hospitality!
Shane Beckham
Our family are regulars of the Indian Kitchen, we love the food and the atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly. Food is consistently good in respect to Taste, Quality &amp; Portion size and its an added bonus to be able to BYO bubbles :)<br/>Tarun recently catered for my companies team building dinner, the whole staff loved the meal, and we had plenty left over for everyone's lunch the following day. Highly recommend - see you again soon.
Nick M
Highly recommended to anyone who is looking for good curry - This is the place to be !!!<br/><br/>We been eating at this place for last 5 years both Dine in &amp; Takeaways. Food is consistently good in respect to Taste, Quality &amp; Portion size.<br/><br/>Some of our friends have Gluten Allergy so it was great to know they do GLUTEN FREE CURRIES &amp; they also do Curries with Less Cream or No Cream just in case if someone is allergic to Cream.<br/><br/>Guys you definitely need to try this place &amp; my experience says you will be amazed by the taste &amp; quality of the Curries they Cook.<br/><br/>Thank you team &amp; Keep up the Good work Cheers !!!
Food And People
There is a reason we are regulars! We always get a fabulous welcome; and we love the food. I enjoy it when I take guests form out of the area - we are often told we have found a real geb. The decor is..well..interesting. But look past this to a place that locals love, warm and genuine service and outstanding indian food. If you are ordering takeaway - you may have to wait - so phone ahead. This is because it is such a favourite among the locals.
Becky Owen
I enjoyed yet another great takeaway from Indian Kitchen at the weekend for my birthday.<br/>I haven't had a bad meal there yet, this has to be some of the best Indian food in Auckland.<br/>The chicken Saagwala was delicious and my children really liked the butter chicken.<br/>We will definitely be back again soon!
Catherine Turner
A local gem! Indian cuisine Kiwi style and oh so delicious. Staff are friendly, fast and have a good knowledge of the menu. We have been there numerous times and can't wait to go back. Whether you do dine in or takeaway, everything is done superbly. If you have not tried this little hideaway, I highly recommend that you do.
Sam
Definitely the best Indian food ever!! Staff are so friendly, service is great, prices are fantastic and the food is amazing!! I've tried almost everything on the menu &amp; highly recommend it all! Definitely the best butter chicken and vegetable korma that I've ever tasted!<br/>A+++++++ :)
Summer Probyn
Best Indian food I have tasted in a long time! I went here last week and ordered the butter chicken with poppadoms. <br/><br/>The people are lovely and friendly and the service was great. <br/>I ordered take away and went back to sit in my car, the man behind the counter brought it right to my car as it was ready 5 minutes before he told me to come back. <br/><br/>The food itself was really good Indian food. <br/>Price is reasonable as in the area there are a lot of competing Indian places, this place gets my vote! I will be back here. <br/><br/>Thanks a lot guys!
Catherine Renolds
Last night we ordered Butter Chicken. First of all the service was quick and the staff very organized and friendly. I have to say it was the best butter chicken I have had in long time, I love the authentic Indian theme and the restaurant is very warm and cozy. Will definately be visiting there again. Also pricing is very reasonable
Mark McGuire
I was really looking forward to trying this place as I had heard good things about it but unfortunately when we went it did not deliver at all. The starter of onion bhaji was basically just scraps of batter with no onion to be seen, the garlic chicken was bland and looked very unappealing. Of the 4 mains our party had, the vegetarian one was good but the 3 meat were not enjoyed by any of us. My masala was sickly sweet and when I asked the waitress about its level of sweetness I was told this is how it should be as it uses butter chicken base and I should order something different if I do not want sweet. Having eaten masalas for a good 40 years this was a little surprising to hear, I guess everyone else does it wrong!! My wife had lamb dopiaza which she described as the strangest curry she has ever had, not altogether unpleasant but very odd and tomato soup like with lots of onion piled on top. We all love Indian food and have tried most eating places in the area but none of us wish to go back here.
Sheryl Hay
We really love the Indian Kitchen! I gave it a go recently after seeing them advertising their excellent prices and even though I have to travel a bit, it was well worth it. I have tried so many Indian restaurants and this is my favourite. My family will now be regulars. <br/><br/>Everything we have tried has been fantastic. Thanks The Indian Kitchen for the best curry in town!
Laura H
Don't judge a book by its cover !!!<br/><br/>This is the best Indian food I have had so far... Absolutely delicious food and great service.<br/><br/>This place deserves its No.1 place against some of the newly opened restaurants in the area. <br/><br/>If you really want good Indian food and value for money, then I highly recommend this place.
Jahmeel Mumtaz
Excellent food, excellent price, excellent service...can't ask for much more. Taruun and all the staff there are great to get on with and provide and amazing dining experience. Been eating there for a few years now and will continue to do so. Try them :)

Delicious food every time, worth a try if you want authentic Indian food, cooked hot and to your preference of spicey-ness. Lovely service, and the staff make an effort to chat when they have the time. <br/><br/>The Indian Kitchen is always busy but give it a try - we drive 45min across town just to get their food - no other Indian compares since we have had this! The Lamb Sagwalla and the Chicken madras are worth giving a go...and the prices are excellent for the amount of food that you receive.

We have been buying from The Indian Kitchen for the last 7 years and we highly recommend it. Wonderful staff and lovely food every time. AAA+++
Yolanda
I love Indian food, but I am very particular about the restaurants I visit . I've tried The Indian Kitchen and I was really impressed with their service and the quality of their food.<br/>I recommended a few friends and they are equally impressed and will also become faithful patrons.<br/>Good Job guys! Keep it up!

Love this place for takeaways. The best in the area and always excellent. Good value for money. Love the Chicken Korma, plenty of succulent pieces of chicken. Phone your order and it's always ready to pick up when they say.

We are never disappointed, the food is amazing and the service great. I'm totally addicted to their aloo gobi - best ever- but my husband tries different meals and rates them all as awesome. Good job we're not too local else we'd be there every night!
Shell
Indian Kitchen is amazing! Whether you are eating in or taking away, the food is consistently great! we drive from the North Shore for Friday night takeaways, and have eaten in with groups for birthdays etc.<br/><br/>The service is great, even when they are hectic, and have a takeaway line out the door!
Lonaye King
A wonderful local eatery. Very attentive and friendly staff, food was amazing with generous portions. I am looking forward to trying other food on the extensive menu. This is THE BEST Indian restaurant in Auckland. A must for all including the children.

Got a bland meal from them, my partner rung them up to complain about the quality of the meal, and she asked for the manager, she got the owner and explained that the benchmark of their food was not acceptable, and she said the chicken madras was not a chicken madras, the ingredient and spices tasted very bland. Why pay for restaurant quality food and get home style meal. The owner cut her off and asked if she knew what she was talking about, and was very arrogant about it. We have used their services in the past, and the quality was always good. I got pissed off overhearing the customer service skills from the owner; and I told my partner lets get in the car and go see him, which we did..quite interesting when you actually see someone in person, their tone and attitude changed. He offered a full refund, I told him I don't care about the refund but his benchmark of food quality and customer service. He ended up offering a complementary meal on tab. I told my partner stuff the complementary meal. I don't tolerate arrogant bad customer service. There are a lot of Indian restaurants in the area. Almost forgot... The raita was runny mess, raita has a nice texture and cucumbers. <br/><br/>Update : After posting this message, the owner rung me and asked if he could personally come around to our house and fully refund the money and apologized. He shortly came over and apologized personally and refunded the money. I told him that it's not about the refund of the money that I cared about just the experience. But I must certainly say that I found it impressive the extent of effort he put into driving away from the business to rectify a matter of customer dissatisfaction. Thank you. We will certainly reconsider a visit. Hope the food quality retains the name you hold Indian kitchen.

Love the food without fail, they never disappoint. Taruun and his staff are hardworking and pleasant to deal with.never ever had a bad meal or service. Nothing beats the Indian KItchen, Howick, I have tried other "Indian " REstaurants , and NOTHING can compare to THE INDIAN KITCHEN , HOWICK !!!!

What a fantastic Restaurant. I never used to eat curry, until someone told me to go to The Indian Kitchen in Howick. After tasting the Butter Chicken, I loved it so much, I kept going back and try other dishes. If you ask anyone in my family, even visitors from overseas what they would like for dinner tonight, they'll say "The Indian Kitchen". The staff is friendly, the food is very tasty, the Restaurant is clean and you get value for money. This is the best curry in the World!
Kylee Joanne
I have been here many times and every time I have really enjoyed their curries! I can't complain about the food or service. Their prices are really reasonable and the staff are super friendly! I reckon they are the best Indian restaurant in Auckland! Much better than Masala!
Danielle Pearce
I can hands down say that the Indian Kitchen is by far the best Indian food I have come across...EVER. The little restaurant is a hidden treasure that everyone should know about! The staff are welcoming and their passion for their business shines through in the quality of their food.<br/>We live a good 30 minute drive away from the restaurant but will not go anywhere else for our curries, especially when its $10 takeaway curries 5 days a week! <br/>Give them a go you will not be disappointed! <br/>5 stars easy!!!
Andrew Knobloch
Don't be fooled by the Indian Kitchen's modest appearance. This is the best Indian restaurant we have been to in Auckland. The food is cooked to perfection, with the meat tender and moist, spiciness to your liking and generous portions. The food quality is consistent every visit. In fact every other Indian restaurant that we have been to since trying their food has just disappointed, so this is always our first port of call for Indian food, whether dine in or takeaway. But what also makes a great dining experience is the host and here too, the Indian Kitchen scores top marks. The staff are always friendly, courteous, efficient and truly understand the meaning of hospitality. An absolute must-try!

We've gotten our Indian take-aways from here ever since we moved to Howick 7 years ago. At first, tried it just for the convenience (it's close) but have also tried other places. The taste &amp; price just keeps us coming back. The food is always good - and the prices are very reasonable - esp. w/ the coupons. Highly recommend from very loyal customers!!
Vikki North
This has to be THE best Indian in Auckland!! We have a curry from here most weeks and its just faultless!! We have been coming here for about 4 years now and wouldn't go anywhere else in fact we have actually taken there takeaways away with us :-) fab guys, keep,it up :-)

Only the best Indian in Auckland, actually I haven't had better in NZ.<br/>The service, price, food simply amazing.<br/><br/>I have been going to the same Indian in Ellerslie for 14 years until a friend took me out to Howick for dinner 6 months ago at The Indian Kitchen, I haven't been back to Ellerslie.
Stan Davies
I have been using this restaurant for about the last 6 months and i am hooked. The food is top class and service is excellent. Today I was forced to walk some distance to collect my meal.I was a bit distressed on arrival and Taruun and his staff where very concerned.I asked that a taxi be called and was advised that a 10 minute pick-up time was arranged. When my meals where ready and no taxi had arrived Taruun again called to find out where the taxi was,he got no satisfaction and cancelled the call and then delivered me home in his car. THANK YOU ARUUN.

Discovered this restaurant after moving local a few years ago. The food is better than any other Indian restaurants I have tried. Seriously amazing taste and value for money and such good service. The vegetarian options are the best I have had also.
Matt Lakin
Have been to this restaurant so many times yet I still enjoy every moment when I go! The food is beyond fantastic and the lamb rogan josh is to die for!! Most other Indian restaurants will be lacking in meat with plenty of sauce but here they really give excellent value for money and I'm always left with a full tummy and a smile!! The service well lets just say I've never experienced service like I have here!! Even without a booking they go out of their way to seat us and even with a full house the service between tables is identical and second to none!!<br/>I would highly recommend that you take time to visit their restaurant and enjoy the amazing food they have to offer!!
Madison L
Absolutely amazing restaurant. They make the best Palak Paneer I have ever had. Outstanding customer service, very personable. Always fast, efficient and friendly. Couldn't recommend highly enough, my absolutely favourite place to dine out!!
Brendan Sefton
Seriously the finest curries around and such good value. It doesn't matter what you get on the menu, it will be some the finest Indian cuisine you've tried.
Jill Tait
Awesome place. Food and service is always fantastic - they are a well oiled machine. Have lived in Howick for 20 years - can't believe we only tried it out for the first time a couple of years back. ALWAYS quality food and service. Highly recommend.
Tim Kennedy
Awesome food paired with awesome service, we will always keep going back! Best Indian in Auckland by a long way! Myself and my partner usually have butter chicken which is delicious and awesome value for money too!

I am not used to writing reviews about restaurants unless there is an remarkable comment to be made. Been a passionate fan of Indian cuisine since the beginning, my craving for curries has taken me to many Indian restaurants in Auckland. I was restricted to the Indian restaurants in the vicinity of my home and they served fairly good curries with average dining experience and I was quite sceptical in trying out new places. <br/><br/>Until one day, my friend (Thanks to him!) introduced me to this Gem of a restaurant ā€œThe Indian Kitchenā€ in Rosscourt, Howick. I realised that my search for authentic indian cuisine stops here. I was hooked to the Butter Chicken to start with ā€“ succulent chicken, creamier sauce, perfect sweet and the right blend of spices. It further sparked my taste buds to try Chicken Korma, Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Saag and Chicken Madras (perfect blend of rich coconut and spices). The Naan was soft, fluffy, Garlic Naan (my favourite) was moist with melted garlic, were my best companion for the curry.<br/><br/>To be honest, I have never tasted a better blend of spices anywhere else. They donā€™t make you feel excessive or stomach upset even after opting for Hot curries (trying to be a bit adventurous at times!!). To top it all, the special price of $10 takeaway is a stealā€¦with a portion size enough to douse your hunger pangs. You wont mind sharing it with your friend as well (for a change!!). The steaming white rice accompanying the curry adds to the experience. <br/><br/>I usually try something different on the menu every time I order, and I have never been disappointed. Excellent service and timely delivery of takeaway orders have been the forte of this establishment.<br/><br/>Donā€™t go by my words, get on with your own experience, I am sure you will have no regrets. <br/><br/>I have raised the standard of my taste buds, lets see if anyone else can come up to the challenge of better offering.
Olivia
I have tried curries from about 6 Indian restaurants and this place tops all of them. At $10 Sunday-Thursday, it has become one of our favourite takeaways. The service is also excellent - prompt and hospitable.
Neil Croft
What can you say about Howick's little gem that hasn't already been said?<br/><br/>The Indian Kitchen is definitely the place to be if you enjoy a good old ruby...I was going to say that Taruun and the staff go out of their way to ensure that your visit is enjoyable...but I don't think that they do "go out of their way" as their service is second to none and just comes naturally to them!<br/><br/>The food is superb and can be as mild or equally as ridiculously hot as your palate requires, but you can guarentee that it will be good...after all, 20 odd people queuing out of the door for their pick-ups surely can't all be wrong!<br/><br/>Keep up the great work guys...
Courtney Cornes
Favourite curries for at least 7 years. The flavours cannot be beatten elsewhere.<br/><br/>Plus the care, attention and service is excellent! <br/><br/>We love being remembered and valued as loyal customers.<br/><br/>Thank you to Indian Kitchen-you are our weekly take out!
Helen French
This place has been my favourite Indian for a couple of years now. It is amazing value ($10 takeaway curries during the week) but the food is also always excellent. The service is always attentive and they actually care....even when over-run with customers and constant takeaway orders. If you've been once or twice, they'll know your name the next time - AND how you like your curry. (I love it HOT!!) All dishes have generous portions of meat and it is always tender and juicy and perfect!! Also - if you ever have any suggestions they will listen to you!!!!! My favourites are the chicken madras and the lamb rogan josh! Their garlic naan bread is the best around. Fantastic little local place. I'm a regular and will continue to be!

Prompted to try this place following the reviews on here. As it looks like a take away place from the outside we never looked into it. One of the busiest evenings for them on a public holiday after Christmas , we were impressed with their friendliness calmness and great service when they were obviously over stretched. The food was great. Tasty and beautifully presented and good value. I love their eclectic serving dishes. We will definitely be back!
Beth James
The prices for takeaway ($10 mains) are the best in Howick and the portions are generous. We had butter chicken and chicken korma and my only complaint is that the butter chicken was too sweet. <br/>After reading all the reviews we think that maybe we caught them on an off night so we will try again.
Glennis Catty
Have been coming here for a couple of years now and the service and friendliness of the staff never disappoints. The quality of the food is excellent and the entrees in particular are very generously sized. I look no further than this restaurant when I feel the urge for an Indian meal.
Shane Astwood
Had another great meal with my wife at The Indian Kitchen last night, nice and warm inside, quick service naan bread served within 5 minutes of ordering, my wife had her fav which is butter chicken, I tried the chicken saagwala it was great, as I left I said to the staff... see you next time and that's usually about a month away, great fast service and great value
Dan Hesson
Love this Restaurant as the vibe is great and the staff are really friendly and from the moment you step in there you feel welcome. The BYO is great but also the beer and wine they serve is not expensive. The takeaways are awesome value too.<br/><br/>Most of all the Curries are awesome!
Jones
This is more than about the superb menu and quality of cuisine on offer. This place comes complete with a relaxed atmosphere that is delivered every time we visit. A place to dine with a group of friends or just two you will never be disappointed. The service from Tarun, Padmini and the team must be good I am sure I saw George Clooney dining there once. News is getting around.....
Sam
Excellent food, excellent service and great value for money. I would definitely recommend trying out the Indian Kitchen, the chicken saagwala is particularly good.<br/><br/>I have been eating here as a regular for several years and they make the best curries in town.
Craig Pearson
My boys and I have been eating at "The Indian Kitchen" for over a year. we eat there on average once every week.<br/><br/>It is consistently excellent in all these important areas.<br/><br/>Food quality<br/>Authentic taste<br/>Service<br/>Friendliness<br/>Value for money<br/><br/>Well worth a visit or just pick up a takeaway to try it out.
Junaid Rupani
Delicious food, complimented by great hosts and pleasant ambiance. A must visit for Indian food.<br/>You must try the Chicken Sagwalla and the in-do Chinese fusion the chili chicken.<br/>They have a great curry of the day, an ideal deal for a week day takeaway meal.
Dave Allen
Absolutely fantastic, have been a customer there for 5 years. Great food, great people. Just love it :)))). Great prices, and brilliant deals. Always have a curry at least once a week. Best curry's by far I have tasted in NZ. Especially relevant if you are an expat from England as the Indian food from the Indian Kitchen is just like you would get back in England. We have introduced many friends to the Indian Kitchen who would agree with me.
Lynne Burns
Amazing food and great staff. Lovely atmosphere and the service is awesome. These guys make the only curry my 7 yr old will eat ! <br/>We've taken relatives for dinner here and the food is so good, they order takeaways to travel home with! all the way to Waikato no less.
David Jones
Having travelled to India on business for several years I can highly recommend this restaurant as the food is wonderful and cooked to perfection. The staff are very polite and always remember your name even if you do not visit on a regular basis.<br/>I can say that if you visit you will not be disappointed but highly delighted and filled to satisfaction.<br/>Try the Indian beer {Kingfisher} it is very good.<br/><br/>David Jones.
Ruby Tuesday
This is our local and we get a takeaway probably once a week. I love the food and rate it as one of the best and most consistent I have ever been to. The interior is not flash but it is what it is.<br/><br/>One improvement (and the only thing that prevents a 5 star rating) would be to invest in a warmer to keep the food warm rather than leaving it in bags on the floor behind the counter to get cold if you're a bit late. Otherwise top marks.
Stanley Goliath
We have moved to another suburb, but still going back to this restaurant....great food and great service....however,as the others have said, the place needs a bit of a makeover...
Steve
one of my favorites, everything is about the food here, the place needs decorating but you can forgive them for that as the food is first class, I think they should change nothing, service food and ambiance 5 star and superb a real taste of India
Katie A
The best Indian I've had. Curries have a lovely smoky authentic taste, naans soft and fresh, and great prices. Eat here nearly every week, highly recommended.
Pankaj Khanna
I am an Indian and my wife cooks a mean Butter Chicken and several other Indian dishes but this restaurant has outdone her!!! We just love the food at this place and their staff are really friendly. we usually have takeaways nearly every week. <br/><br/>Best Indian food I have tasted in New Zealand. <br/><br/>Cheers!<br/>
Kim Beere
Our absolute favorite Indian Restaurant - one not to miss, you can't beat their butter chicken or dry chilli chicken :) We generally always order takeaway, and dine in occasionally, every time the food is the same - excellent. Service fantastic, and great friendly staff - a credit to the owners.
Justin Maloney
Only place I've found in Auckland that makes a curry hot and tasty enough for my liking. Staff always helpful and its great value. Well worth the trip out there. If you like it spicy make sure you tell them. The butter chicken is especially good, but dont be afraid to try some of the stuff you've never heard of either. Yet to find a dish we dont love.
Robert Rogers
Great Value and great food - our fav indian restaurant at the moment<br/><br/>We have always had takeaway because we get vouchers at home with special deals<br/><br/>YUM
JayJay
Great Value, Lovely tasty food!<br/>They have wonderful specials during the week like "CURRY OF THE DAY for only $9.90"<br/>I especially like the Lamb Saagwala, its really divine!<br/><br/>The interior isn't the best and needs a bit of a freshen up and some updating. Overall the food and the prices are great value!..
Pania
Always excellent quality food. We grab takeout from here all the time and are always happy with the food (however one time a year or so ago someone was really over-zealous with the hot spice --but all is forgiven!)
Steven Jones
as good as it gets..
Sophie Welcome

Mr & Mrs
great food always constant quality, which I find is the thing that changes with the days of the week! , i'm from Birmingham in England the birth place of Chicken Tikka Massala I must have eaten in 1000's of places and this would be in my top 3 for New Zealand , and the prices are very good for this quality <br/><br/>me and my wife are regulars
Heidi
We have eaten there for a friend's birthday and the meal / staff were fabulous - will definately be going back
Paula
Had friends up from Nelson and was trying to find a good curry. Found ratings and decided to try, fantastic food, great service and people were being turned away it was so popular! Will be a new regular. <br/>Lots of take away customers as well so obviously well known locally.

We had takeaway from here and found it to be some of the best Indian I've had yet! (and it's my fav so I've been around!)I have not yet eaten-in here but definitely intend too, the staff seemed really nice and friendly on my pick up.
Shan Hooper
Found this very strange tasting Indian, even the normal butter chicken had a funny flavor to it. Staff were lovely but food overall not to great.
