Review Elegance At 148 On Elles Restaurant - Invercargill

My wife and i had a meal here while staying in Invercargill. We didn't have a reservation but were given a table on a busy Friday night. The food was excellent and the service likewise, we would thoroughly recommend this restaurant from our experience.

Great food and our server was amazing. How she managed a table of nine without writing anything down is beyond me. Yes the decor leads a lot to be desired but the food makes up for it.

Here tonite (22/03/21) for a meal for my wife's birthday. Definitely not disappointed. Many thanks to the pleasant lady serving the tables and also to the chef. The beef fillet I had and the lamb rack my wife had were both cooked exactly as they should have been and how we requested - impeccable. Lots of flavors in the food, good wine, good atmosphere and good company. I would rate Elegance highly and recommend it by all means. Well done. Would not hesitate to return.

Had our wedding Anniversary dinner there and it was just beautiful, along with a personal card and happy Anniversary pipped in chocolate on our dessert plate! Lovely thoughtful touches ❤️ thank you 😊

Very good atmosphere. Old style house modernised inside. Really good options for menu. Great size meals . Options of Seafood, lamb, vegetarian (one only) venison. Steak. Will come back her again. staff all vaccinated . Plenty of meal options.

Lovely meal, great atmosphere and the service is amazing. We have never been disappointed. Our number one restaurant.

We had our 21st wedding anniversary here and food was amazing, the atmosphere was fantastic and the staff were so welcoming and professional, we had amazing service from the moment we walked in to the moment we left, thank you so much team we will be back

You can not fault this restaurant in any way. The food is divine. What I like even more is that the chef grows vegetables that he uses in the menu and he pays just as much attention to the vegetables in his dishes as he does to the meat. The staff are just wonderful as well, welcoming without being overbearing. If I could eat here every night I would have a standing reservation.

Outstanding on all accounts. The service was attentive without being obtrusive, the wine list had a good range representing good value and the meals were fantastic. I was particularly impressed with the flavours in the venison entree. I highly recommend 148 on Elles for any occasion.

This restaurant has to be one of the very best in Invercargill. Had a truly magnificent meal there last night. Meals were outstanding, beautifully presented and flavours amazing. The service was outstanding. Felt warm and welcoming as soon as we entered the room. Truly fine dining at its very best. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and we will definitely be returning.

Great service, felt very welcome from the moment we walked in. Food tasty but definitely not 'fine dining', perhaps for Invercargill it may be considered that but having steak and crinkle cut fries on the menu doesn't cut it for me. It was more good, slightly overpriced pub food. Nonetheless, it was a pleasant night out but probably wouldn't return if after fine dining experience. The service gave it four stars.

My husband and I finally found a place in Southland that's worth every cent. The meals were perfection. Staff were exceptional. As ex-Aucklanders now living in the best part of the world, we admit to being picky. There was nothing to pick on here. We will be recommending this restaurant to our guests who stay with us in Mossburn and anyone else who cares to ask about where to eat in Invercargill. <br/>Beautiful building as well.

Excellent service here.<br/>We have been before and had very good service from the present owners and staff.<br/>However this time it was outstanding.<br/>We had a very nice meal, staff were friendly, at the end when we were leaving our car would not start!<br/><br/>Alan came out to get some herbs from the garden.<br/>He went out of his way to be helpful, giving us petrol, though that was not the issue. In the end he dropped us off at an address so we could organise a car to get us home, about 30km away.<br/><br/>All this was done for no charge.<br/>Simply outstanding customer service. I could not fault it, and thoroughly recommend.

This place is amazing. The service is outstanding. The food is the best I have had in Invercargill. I had the scollop's on the potato pom poms for a main. I did not think these two would go together but they did. For a desert I had the cheesecake. The flavours I cannot describe but I wanted more. I will definitely return.

Amazing,The food was perfectly cooked, Presentation was fantastic, And going the extra mile for grandad just made it perfect. its nice to see real people who are genuine still exist out there. Went for dinner with my Husband, Daughter &amp; Son-in law to be. I only have high praises for the delicious, beautifully presented meals. The service and atmosphere was warm and inviting. Will definitely be going back for future dinning. I had the Scollop's, my Daughter had the Pork Belly and the Men had Sirloin Steak and Fillet Steak, all meals were DIVINE. The Desserts yummy made your eyes roll back into your head.LOL!! A fine dinning experience, the best Restaurant in Invercargill in my opinion. Thank you to 148 On Ellis, Well done.

Were stoked with this place. <br/><br/>Waitress was really helpful and friendly, looked after us and gave us a great table. Food was really nice and good range on the menu. <br/><br/>Was expecting to be very expensive due to the 'fine dining' label but were pleasantly surprised, and will definitely be going back!

Our recent visit was on a relatively light mid week occasion. The service was outstanding, helpful &amp; friendly, without being intrusive. The food was high quality. We had steaks, one beef fillet, one sirloin. Cooked exactly to our requirements. All other facets of the meal were of high quality.

Completely faultless. Best service and food in town. Can't believe we waited so long to go here. My favourite place in Invercargill now. The food was devine and the service outstanding. We didn't book and still got a fantastic table in the window. The place was busy but staff were calm and very obliging. Thanks for a great dining experience. In a word: Brilliant. Took my partner here over a year ago for her birthday and everything was fantastic. Traveled down to Invercargill again for my Grandfather's birthday. Had family members from the North Island down for the occasion and the task of choosing a restaurant fell on me. I Chose Elegance, as I was hoping my memory served me well. Indeed it did. The service was polite and not over-attentive, our mains were impeccable and the desserts were literally melt-in-the-mouth spectacular. I've never felt compelled to write a review for any restaurant before dining at Elegance at 148. <br/><br/>All I can hope is that I strike it lucky in the lottery so I can dine here on a daily basis.

We had a lovely evening at Elegance in August. Quiet background music, a warm welcome from attentive but unobtrusive staff and dinner at our own pace made this a memorable occasion. Reserved friendliness from the staff rather than "in your face" cheeriness is a pleasure to find. Despite being in a large group, choosing from a wide menu, our meals were delivered timeously and everyone enjoyed both the presentation and the food. Congratulations, Elegance, and thank you.

Wow, what a wonderful experience. Great hosts, lovely premises and the food just delicious. My partner and I had a dozen oysters meal each, cooked perfectly. We were too full for desert! We will definitely be returning.

Excellent restaurant! They categorized themselves as 'Fine Dining', and it is probably the first 'Fine Dining' restaurant that has actually lived up to the term! My partner and I both work in the hospo industry and we can be very critical. We were pleasantly surprised. I had the venison which was cooked perfectly. The presentation was reasonably good, but could have been a bit better. My partner had just come out of hospital a day before and couldn't have anything too acidic, which they were very accommodating of. Prices were extremely good for the service we received. Definitely will be returning!

This restaurant was the celebratory venue for the wedding mentioned in Uptown Girl's column in the Southland Times (attended 16 Oct).It was baby brother's BIG DAY.<br/> This was my first time at this restaurant(I know it had been trialed by bride and groom, and both sets of parents at different times beforehand).<br/> If you live in In'gill or are visiting, this place is DEFINITELY worth a booking. At this wedding as well as the 'usual' (humph!), there were a table of under 15yos, a vegan, a fussy eater, a contingent of Foodies. All were well looked after, and VERY IMPRESSED.<br/> The Waiting staff were there, but unobtrusive; the Chef read the guest well, when to joke, where to sit for a welcome chin-wag. <br/> The wine/soft drink list was DIVINE (an under 12 year old was stoked with the bottled Nectarine juice). This place is a pleasure to eat in. If it can't be rated 6 out of 5, then my final comment is... (I am awaiting Uptown Girl's Review (Hang-over Tinged, of course...))BLOODY GREAT!!!

My husband took me for dinner in April 2010 for my birthday. <br/>We had a fabulous meal. We both work in the hospitality industry so can be very critical. We however very impressed. The food was exquisite and service impeccable. Like previous diners, I was also surprised with a birthday dessert plate of which I had to take a photo to send to others.<br/>I can't wait to go back!

What a great place! Service was exceptional! Warm, welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. The meal; we all went 3 courses and what a treat! Everything was fabulous with everyone raving about their dishes. The setting was lovely and warm with a roaring open fire going and soft back ground music that set the mood of a relaxing evening with Friends perfectly. Well done to all concerned we will most certainly be returning!

What has happened here? I have reviewed this place before and always given top stars but last week not so. The service was excellent as always but the food let them down badly. This was not fine dining and we could have ordered a few of the things at a steak bar for less...and it wasn't that nicely cooked! Sorry guys got to be honest we didn't like it and we were a large party. The seafood was great but the rest was just okay.<br/><br/>Now August 2012: A large party of us went here last night. Great atomosphere, excellent service but STILL it's very average food! come on guys get this food sorted or don't advertise as 'elegant fine dining'

This place never fails to delivery us with a fabulous evening. Service and food are both top notch without being contentious. Love the new Summer Taster on the Entrees, the Chef makes his own Cheese and it is divine I recommend you try it also the Crumble is the best I have ever had. Have dine here several times and will be going back knowing we will not be disappointed. The food was fabulous and the service impeccable (try the Prawns!). Mentioned to the waitress we were celebrating a birthday in passing and were surprised when Birthday 'Girl's" dessert come out on a specially decorated Happy Birthday Plate then to follow a handmade birthday card (signed by the staff) was presented to the Birthday 'girl' at the end of the meal. Both were lovely touches on top of a fantastic evening. This was the second time we have dined here and we can't fault it. We will be returning and recommend to whole heartily.

Agree with all the people who said they would be back. Service was fantastic, again attentive but not annoying, wine list was really good. The handbag and I took some encouragement to revisit this after experiences with past owners but were pleased we did. Will be back and have recommended it to others. To the owners, great job resurrecting this business. I did like seeing the menu posted outside to read before venturing upstairs.

Once again we had an evening out here a few weeks ago, this time it was a mid winter work dinner. We enjoyed our meals very much...oysters were a real treat, not over powered by other flavours. Nothing was a problem to the friendly helpful staff and we noted that they were still happy to cook for very late arivals at another table (10.30pm)without batting an eyelid. The place was over half full all evening with a steady stream of diners. Prices are reasonable, service and quality of food amazing! Had a lovely quiet meal here. Not many other patrons so chef came out and talked with us for a while which was cool. Meal was fantastic and we enjoyed the view from our table (watching a boy racer trying to push start his car in the street below...very funny).<br/>Would recommend to anyone wanting a meal and experience of a higher quality than many of Invercargill's ILT establishments

Wow had not been here for years and now wonder what had I been missing out on? The night started with a warm welcome and an offer to sit in the bar and have pre-dinner drinks in front of the roaring fire (think the chef was tiring to cook us) but just so lovely we stayed and shared a bread platter. Finally had to pull ourselves away from the fire and went to the table, I had a Pork Belly that melted in my mouth; Husband had the Beef Fillet topped with calamari a huge meal but very delicious, cooked just the way he wanted. Our friends both had the Pernod &amp; Garlic Prawns with rice and salad, a smaller meal but the sauce was to die for. Desserts, yummy sums it up. Wine list is large and very impressive mostly NZ wines (not many by the glass though.)<br/>The service was friendly and polished.<br/>Over all the best night out we have had in Invercargill in many years. We will be back.

Once again this restaurant has given its all. The chef takes pride in serving up the well presented food in the lightest of sauces so that one can actually taste what they are eating. The waitresses are tops and always most helpful and friendly.<br/>This is one place I go back to again and again. The prices are reasonable and good value for money.

One of the nicest pieces of blue cod I have ever eaten, cooked in a beautiful crisp beer batter to absolute perfection. The oysters were huge and to die for. The service by the very friendly 'Sonya' was again 5*, the restaurant itself was most inviting, clean and comfortable, an absolute must whenever dining in Invercargill.
